    It was excellent.

    Everything was outstanding—from the Room, view, Facility, amenities, to the service. The in-room dining was also truly relaxing. Everything was excellent and exceeded our expectations. We were happy to have a hammock in the Room. A nice bonus was that the hair dryers in the large public bath were Repronizer models. The entire property smelled wonderful, so we bought some as a souvenir. Done—we’ll be back again. We’ll visit again. Please keep things just as they are.

    We were able to stay with peace of mind even with our baby.

    We stayed here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We traveled with our 2-month-old baby, and the staff welcomed us warmly, which made us feel at ease throughout our stay. Before our visit, we emailed to ask about baby amenities, and they responded flexibly to our requests, which we truly appreciated. During our stay, they provided a baby crib, baby bath, and baby soap, and we felt their thoughtful attention for guests traveling with infants. The meals were delicious, and we enjoyed each dish. The Room was kept very clean, and we were able to relax comfortably. All of the staff were consistently kind and attentive, making this special occasion—my wife’s birthday—into a wonderful time. Traveling with a baby can be a bit nerve-wracking, but we had a safe and comfortable stay here. This is a lovely Ryokan that I would highly recommend for family trips as well. We would love to visit again.

    Panorama Deck with an Open-Air Bath and Spectacular Views

    Due to unfortunate weather, we canceled our sightseeing plans before arriving and checked in earlier than scheduled, but we were warmly welcomed. Everything about the stay was comfortable, but what truly stands out is the breathtaking “borrowed scenery” view from the open-air bath in the Room (the Sachi Room). Although it never cleared on the first day, we never tired of watching clouds drift through the mountain range and mist rise from the hills. After nightfall, even the distant flashes of lightning felt magical. The next morning dawned beautifully clear, and I enjoyed yoga on the panorama deck while taking in an expansive view all the way to Sagami Bay. The cuisine and staff were impeccable, and touches like self-service hand-milled coffee in the lobby made it a perfect two days where we could completely forget everyday concerns.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    We stayed as a couple to celebrate a birthday. The entrance, lobby, guest room, and view shown in the photos were exactly as expected—truly wonderful. The amenities were well stocked, including a Repronizer hair dryer and hair iron. The staff were also very pleasant, and thanks to their hospitality and service we had a comfortable stay and celebration. Options such as a birthday cake or bouquet could be ordered via the website of an affiliated partner (a separate shop), so it may be helpful to confirm by phone.

    In-Room dining was excellent in both taste and service.

    Unfortunately, it rained, so there was absolutely no view from the Room… That said, staying in the Room and enjoying the open-air bath, the large public bath, and the wonderful meals served in the Room left us very satisfied overall. Before dinner, we had draft beer and sparkling wine from the lobby’s complimentary drinks. When we returned to our Room in a great mood, it was exactly 6:00 p.m. Dinner began with seasonal dishes featuring eggplant, figs, and splendid alfonsino. The sashimi included bluefin tuna and blackthroat seaperch; we also enjoyed Hokkaido octopus simply with salt—it was excellent. We paired fresh wasabi not only with the sashimi but also generously with the meat. It also went perfectly with a 180 ml serving of Junmai Daiginjo sake. Everything was delicious, but what impressed us most was the impeccable timing of each course being served—it elevated the entire dining experience even further. After dinner we took a short break, then went down to the lobby again; since it was close to 10:00 p.m., there was only one other guest there. This time we enjoyed sake and freshly ground coffee from a mill grinder while relaxing in—and fully appreciating—the spacious atmosphere. … The weather was our only disappointment; next time we visit, we would love to see Daimonji across from us.     The Shuttle Service is great.

    In-room dining alone felt a bit awkward at first, but the staff were attentive, the meal timing was perfect, and I had a delicious and enjoyable stay. Having a Shuttle Service is one of my key criteria when choosing an Accommodation, and it was great.

    From the moment you open the door

    The view from the window was so relaxing! The Room was lovely and spacious, and we were able to unwind. The in-room bath was great, and the large public bath was also spacious and very nice. These days it’s rare to be able to dine in your Room, and there was more than we could finish, but everything was delicious to the very last bite. The staff member in charge of our Room service was extremely attentive, and we enjoyed chatting a little each time the meals were served, which made our stay very pleasant. Thank you very much. We made a Reservation for two for an esthetic treatment; since it would have been too small in the Room, they kindly guided us to another location and provided the treatment in a private room. I can truly see why so many guests rate this place highly. We would love to stay again.

    It was a wonderful accommodation!

    A very calm and relaxing Ryokan, and the meals were simply outstanding! There was a wide variety of dishes and generous portions—very satisfying. The amenities were from THANN! The bath in the Room was at a perfect temperature, so comfortable you could stay in it forever!

    The Ultimate Hospitality Experience

    I decided to travel to Hakone this summer and was unsure which Accommodation to choose. Among the options, Gen stood out as the most stylish and relaxing, so I chose it. After staying there, I was truly impressed: unlimited drinks and snacks, excellent hot spring water in the open-air bath in the Room, a spacious Room, delicious dinner and breakfast, and a calming fragrance throughout the property. I was completely satisfied. When I visit Hakone again, I’d love to make this my regular Accommodation.

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. As it was summer, we were concerned about insects, but we had no issues during our stay. The Room was spacious and comfortable, and the meals, lounge, service, and large public bath were all excellent. This stay was to celebrate a birthday, and we truly appreciated your thoughtful consideration. We would love to visit again.

    The staff providing in-Room dining were attentive down to the smallest details, quick and considerate, and cheerful, which made our stay comfortable and pleasant to see. The Room had been nicely renovated, but it was disappointing that traces of its age remained in places.

    Review We stayed with our 1-year-and-7-month-old child. We’ve traveled several times since our child was born, and this Accommodation was the most relaxing we’ve had so far. Perhaps because many guests travel with children, everyone at the Accommodation was kind to kids, and they seemed very comfortable handling them. The hot spring water quality was also excellent. The Ryokan building itself has been renovated and is well maintained, so it’s clean, but there were a few spots where it still felt a bit old. Even so, including the staff’s service and overall comfort, we were very satisfied. I’d recommend this Accommodation to anyone who wants to relax while traveling with children.

    We had a wonderful time as a family.

    We stayed with our baby, and it was such a wonderful Accommodation that we’d love to visit again even as adults only. The chic, calming interior was beautiful, and you could feel the attention to detail in every piece of furniture, appliance, and decor. The Room had adorable children’s chairs and slippers, a yoga mat, DVD rentals, a star chart, and more. The space itself was so comfortable that simply spending time at the Accommodation felt truly restorative. At the front desk there was a complimentary drink service including alcohol such as beer and sake, as well as delicious decaf coffee that pregnant guests and breastfeeding moms can enjoy. On top of that, all drinks and snacks in the in-Room refrigerator were also free—such a thoughtful touch that made us feel genuinely cared for. The private open-air bath attached to the Room was a solid rock-built bath with an impressive presence; soaking slowly while surrounded by nature was incredibly relaxing. Most memorable of all was the view from the Room: refreshing mountains stretching out before us, with Sagami Bay visible beyond. Just staying in the Room while gazing out the window felt luxurious—we lost track of time and truly unwound. Each dish showed great care and craftsmanship; everything was delicious and we were completely satisfied. Although we stayed with a child, thanks to the warm hospitality of all the staff we were able to spend our time very comfortably.

    Conclusion: Outstanding! I made a Reservation about three days in advance with the “Leave-it-to-us” Plan. I was assigned the largest Room at 115 m². Booking that Room specifically would have cost around ¥180,000, but I was able to stay for ¥80,000 with the “Leave-it-to-us” Plan. Great view. Great food. The Room was so spacious it felt almost too big—in a good way. Very clean. Excellent hospitality. I can’t think of any negatives. I’d definitely like to stay again, but honestly, even ¥80,000 is expensive, so I’d appreciate it if the price were lower. Thank you very much!

    Outstanding hospitality.

    Many Accommodations offer to pick you up at the nearest Gora Station on the day of arrival, but here they also stored our luggage the next day, drove us to nearby Sounzan, and then came back to Sounzan with our luggage to pick us up after sightseeing before taking us to Gora Station. They were very flexible—saying destinations like Owakudani or anywhere else were fine—and I don’t think this level of service is common at other Accommodations. The hair dryer provided was high-end, and the large public bath amenities went beyond the usual toothbrushes and razors, including floss and mouthwash as well. The private open-air bath in the Room was also fed directly from the hot spring source, with a great view. Overall, we were extremely satisfied.

    Completely satisfied with the magnificent views and relaxing time.

    We stayed here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. At check-in, we were served chilled mizumanju and sencha, both delicious, which immediately raised our expectations. As soon as we were shown to our Room, we were overwhelmed by the view through the large windows. The terrace with an open-air bath felt wonderfully spacious, and the Onsen available anytime was not too hot—just the perfect temperature—so we could soak for a long time even in summer. We also visited the public bath, but honestly felt that the Onsen in our Room alone was more than enough. Because it was her birthday, they offered a complimentary one-drink service—and I was pleasantly surprised that it applied to me as well, not just my wife. The wine pairing set we ordered separately matched each course perfectly. The tableware was beautiful too, and you could really feel their attention to detail. Dessert came with a lovely message plate, which made us very happy! The next morning, we watched the sunrise from the terrace and enjoyed a relaxing time. At checkout, when we mentioned that we were heading to The Hakone Open-Air Museum (Chokoku-no-Mori Museum), they kindly drove us there. All of the staff provided attentive service, making this a wonderful, soothing trip and a memorable celebration. Thank you very much!

    A spontaneous solo trip

    This was an Accommodation I’d long wanted to stay at, and when I happened to see a last-minute Plan on IKYU, I made a Reservation right away and headed straight to Hakone after wrapping up work on Friday morning. I decided to walk from Gora Station since it seemed like a reasonable distance, but the hill was steeper than expected and I ended up drenched in sweat. In hot weather, it’s definitely better to simply request pick-up. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay. For me, there was nothing to complain about—the Room, the Onsen, and the meals were all excellent. Soaking in the Onsen again and again while listening to Japanese bush warblers helped me truly unwind from everyday fatigue. Everything we ate was delicious, but I especially appreciated the breakfast rice with crispy scorched bits. Since meals are served in your Room, it also feels very comfortable even for solo travelers. It seemed there were other guests staying alone as well. The lounge’s complimentary drinks include a wide variety of coffee and tea. I ended up choosing alcohol most of the time, but later wished I had enjoyed more of the coffee and tea too. I still feel like I didn’t get enough of it all, so I’d love to visit again—next time in a season other than midsummer. Just one note: my Room was on the third floor, and the sound of water running from the Room above (perhaps from the toilet) was a bit louder than expected.

    The view was simply amazing.

    I stayed here to unwind after work. I made my Reservation hoping for the view from the room, and it exceeded my expectations in every way—not only the scenery, but also the kind and attentive staff, thoughtful service, and delicious breakfast and dinner. The weather was beautiful on the day I stayed, and as I soaked in the open-air bath in my room while taking in the view, I naturally felt both body and mind relax. What surprised me at dinner was the marinated sea bream and sea urchin served with rice. Usually a meal comes with rice, soup, and pickles, but both the sea bream and sea urchin were outstandingly delicious, and I enjoyed every bite to the very end. It is not an easy price point to splurge on often, but it was a wonderful Accommodation that I would love to stay at again someday. Thank you very much to all of the staff.

    A relaxing accommodation

    I was finally able to stay at an Accommodation I had wanted to visit for a long time. The Room was wonderful. Although the view outside was completely white due to rain and fog, it was still very comfortable, and I could relax and enjoy the in-room Onsen at my leisure. The in-room dining was delicately prepared and delicious. The lounge also offered wine and coffee you can grind yourself with a mill, making it a great place to unwind. I also appreciated being able to take drinks back to the Room. That said, there were a few points that concerned me. First, when we arrived by car, a Shuttle Service vehicle was stopped there, leaving just enough space for large cars to barely pass each other. Although valet parking is provided, we waited several minutes for someone to greet us, and it felt like two cars behind us were getting stuck on the slope near the entrance. During check-in hours, I think it would be better to assign younger staff rather than elderly staff. It would be good to consider smoother operations. At check-in as well, I could sense that the attendants were flustered, which made it hard to feel settled. It gave me the impression that the system may not be well organized. Sorry for bringing up another brand as a comparison, but Hoshino Resorts offers consistent service quality at both Hoshinoya (expensive) and RISONARE (more affordable), likely because their systems and manuals are solid—so I think their approach could be helpful as a reference. One more point: my husband mentioned that he noticed an unpleasant smell in the men’s large public bath area. He also felt that having exposed piping there is not appropriate for a high-end Accommodation. There is a sauna, but it was disappointing that there were no chairs for cooling down afterward. It would also be nice if the sauna were hotter. Because this is such a good Accommodation, I shared some stricter feedback in hopes it will become even better—but it has definitely become one of the places I would love to return to.

    This was our second ...

    This was our second stay, following last year. It was a mother-and-daughter trip (my daughter is 4), and having a bath in the Room and in-Room dining made things so easy for us, which is why we came back. The view was wonderful, the meals were delicious, and we were completely satisfied. Whether in the Room, on the deck, or in the bath, it was all such a relaxing time. This time I woke up at 3:00 a.m. and took a bath in the Room, and the starry sky was incredibly beautiful. We had such a lovely time—thank you very much. We would love to visit again next year.

    We chose to stay her...

    We chose to stay here for the Room’s open-air Onsen with a spectacular view. Needless to say, both the scenery and the Onsen were wonderful, but the meals exceeded our expectations! Compared with other Ryokan, there was a greater variety and more generous portions, and everything was absolutely delicious.

    I had the most relaxing stay!

    We stayed here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The moment we entered the Room, the breathtaking view from the window was amazing! The Room was also spacious and spotless, and my wife was truly delighted. We could enjoy both the Onsen and the meals in our Room, so everything was taken care of without needing to go anywhere. Every dish was delicious. The sashimi was served in an ice bowl, which looked refreshingly cool as well. The meat was tender and very tasty too. Since it was her birthday, we received a complimentary one drink. Also, as a surprise, a staff member brought a dessert plate with a message while singing, which put a big smile on my wife’s face!! In summer, insects come into the garden at night, so I recommend enjoying the open-air bath in your Room and the provided yoga mat while it’s still light out. They are not blackout curtains, so if you’re sensitive to light, I recommend using the provided eye mask. The complimentary drinks and the hospitality from the staff were wonderful as well. Thank you for such an exceptional time.

    A special Accommodation you’ll want to return to again and again

    I have stayed at luxury Hotels around the world, and this time I stayed at Gen Hakone Gora with my mother. Among all the Hotels I have stayed at, this one was exceptional in every way, and my mother absolutely loved it. From the staff’s attentive and warm hospitality, to the beautifully presented and delicious cuisine, and even the lush natural surroundings—everything was truly impressive. We felt completely refreshed in both body and mind, and had a wonderful time. When I visit Hakone Gora again, I would definitely like to stay here. The stay was so outstanding that I immediately made a Reservation at another Hotel in the same group.

    My Son’s First Trip

    I was deeply moved by the warm hospitality of all the staff. This was our first trip with our 0-year-old son, so we were a bit anxious, but every employee remembered his name and spoke to him kindly. They also thoughtfully helped by warming up baby food and even making rice porridge, which was truly a great support for us. The all-you-can-drink alcohol and snacks in the lobby, the complimentary drinks in the Room, and the delicious meals were all excellent and very satisfying. It was a wonderful Accommodation that we would love to visit again—not only for families with children, but also just as adults!

    We were very satisfied.

    I’ve stayed at Hakone Ryokan in the same price range many times, and this was one of the most satisfying experiences I’ve ever had. With stunning views, I could enjoy the Onsen and meals, turn off the TV, and truly relax while letting myself sink into the surroundings. The view depends on the weather, but it was a wonderful Ryokan that made me want to come back.

    Thank you for a wonderful one-night stay.

    We made a Reservation for our honeymoon with a Plan including one night and two meals. This time, we were upgraded to a larger Room, and we truly enjoyed a wonderful stay. The Room was spacious and relaxing, and the excellent taste was evident in every detail—from the furniture down to the smallest glass. The amenities were also well stocked, and we especially appreciated being able to choose bath products from multiple brands at the large public bath. This Accommodation has only 18 rooms, so it feels pleasantly intimate. Since it was a weekday and there were few guests, both dinner and breakfast were served in our Room, allowing us to fully enjoy privacy along with attentive service at a relaxed pace. The meals were creative Japanese kaiseki cuisine, and we were completely satisfied with both the quality and quantity. As it was our honeymoon, they kindly offered us a complimentary drink service and even decorated our dessert plate—we were truly touched by their warm hospitality. The self-service coffee bar in the lobby was also very unique: choosing the beans, grinding them ourselves, and brewing fresh coffee was a great experience—and it tasted authentic and delicious. We have stayed at many luxury Accommodations before, but this time became an exceptional stay that satisfied all five senses—sight, body comfort, taste, everything. Thank you very much for such a wonderful night.

    We stayed as a famil...

    We stayed as a family. They were very kind and accommodating to guests with children, so we were able to relax and enjoy our stay with peace of mind. What we loved about this Accommodation was that the spa and meals could all be enjoyed in the Room. With children, getting around can be difficult, so we truly appreciated that everything could be taken care of in the Room.
