    A wonderful time

I had been hoping to visit for some time, and I was able to spend a truly wonderful stay. The location offers a magnificent view overlooking Lake Suwa. My daughter was also delighted with the welcome sweets we enjoyed in the Room. Learning about the history of the Katakura family also helped me understand the background behind Tomioka Silk Mill becoming a World Heritage Site. The Room furnishings, amenities, meals, and the staff’s attentive hospitality were all excellent. I especially loved the carefully selected original items and amenities, and I purchased some to take home. I would definitely like to visit again in a different season.

    Silk Curry is exquisite!

The silk curry served as the finale to the creative French dinner was exquisite! The balance of mildness and spiciness was perfect. I even bought a retort pouch as a souvenir. The accommodation room had a comfortable bed with just the right size and firmness, making it very relaxing. The onsen attached to the room offered great water, and I enjoyed soaking in it multiple times. For the large public bath, guests can use the adjacent Katakura-kan, but since it was cold, I plan to try it next time. I would love to stay again during the summer fireworks festival season!

This was my first time staying here, and everything exceeded my expectations—the room, service, view, and the delicious welcome sweets and meals. I would love to stay again.

    I visited as part of...

I visited as part of my annual autumn break to enjoy the fall foliage. Although I couldn't visit last year due to scheduling conflicts, I was delighted to see that information from my previous stays had been properly passed on, as evidenced by the conversation with the staff who delivered the welcome sweets to my room and the amenities prepared in the guest room. The usual room, my favorite semi-open-air bath, and the hospitality of the staff were all incredibly comfortable. Once again, I was truly glad to have chosen this accommodation this year. In particular, I loved how fragrant and soothing the apples prepared for "apple bath" (←!) were; they came in a lovely drawstring bag and made for a very relaxing experience during bathing. The only disappointment was with the meals. Both my husband and I have always enjoyed dishes featuring an abundance of local vegetables here—so much so that being able to savor various kinds of delicious vegetables has been one of our main reasons for visiting this hotel. However... It seems that there has been a change in chefs this time around; both the quantity and variety of vegetables used were incomparable to before. The steak, which should have been a highlight dish, was served cold; garlic rice was soggy with nothing but an overpowering greasy taste; from appetizers through dessert, there wasn’t a single dish we found enjoyable—which left me feeling utterly disheartened as someone who loves food deeply. (The silk curry tasted just like its ready-made version but at least it was enjoyable.) Breakfast also lacked any excitement or anticipation like before. With meals at such a level now, honestly speaking—it significantly diminishes what makes staying at Silk Hotel worthwhile. My husband prioritizes views from rooms and open-air baths over meals so he didn’t seem too bothered by it—but since I'm someone who places great importance on both room functionality *and* dining quality—I couldn’t help but feel disappointed overall given how much emphasis is placed on food here previously. While we had planned another visit next year already—if no improvements are seen regarding meal quality—it would honestly be difficult for me personally moving forward. For now though—I’ll keep closely monitoring reviews across travel sites & blogs etc., keeping an eye out regarding future developments!

I would definitely like to stay again.

We rarely find an accommodation in hotel style that we want to revisit, but since our stay at Hotel Lapin in Gunma, this was the first time in a while. Our room was on the third floor with a stunning view of Lake Suwa. Although stepping out onto the balcony made us visible from the road and park around Lake Suwa below, it didn’t bother us much, and we enjoyed relaxing on the terrace. The welcome sweets served in an elegant afternoon tea style lifted our spirits. Containers were even provided for any leftovers. The free drinks in the refrigerator offered a wide variety of choices. The room's bath featured flowing hot spring water with perfect temperature and volume, which left us very satisfied. The amenities were more than sufficient for me. As for dining, I was slightly nervous about having Western-style cuisine but found it neither overly formal nor intimidating. Each table was separated by partitions and lace curtains; while voices could be heard from neighboring tables, we could enjoy our meal without worrying about others around us. The beautifully presented dishes were delicious and left both our stomachs and hearts completely satisfied. The staff members were incredibly kind and attentive. Their genuine efforts to provide excellent hospitality came through clearly, leaving a very positive impression on us. A special thanks to the staff who cleaned our car—it had gotten dirty from rain the previous day but was returned sparkling clean! We were also deeply moved by their valet service—a rarity these days at ryokans or hotels. As colder weather approaches, we hope all staff members take care of themselves while continuing their wonderful work! Next time, we’d love to stay here again while enjoying fireworks over Lake Suwa!

A charming Western-style villa with a lake view

The exterior is a beautiful Western-style building, and the service upon arrival was excellent. The parking lot is spacious, and they even provided a car washing service, leaving my car sparkling clean. The room was a corner room on the second floor with no neighboring rooms, allowing for a peaceful stay. From the living room, there was a stunning view of the lake. After being shown to the room, detailed explanations were provided about it, ensuring there were no inconveniences during our stay. Most impressively, we were surprised by the drinks and dessert tower offered in the room. The bath was close to an indoor bath style but had windows that could be opened for a semi-open-air experience with refreshing air. There were proper screens on the windows to keep insects out of the bathroom area. The Onsen water was colorless and odorless; however, it was quite hot with hotter water accumulating at the top of the tub. It needed stirring before entering as it would otherwise be too hot to enjoy comfortably. We took advantage of 30 minutes before dinner to take a walk by the lake after bathing; nearby stood historic buildings that made for an enjoyable stroll. Dinner consisted of Western cuisine paired perfectly with wine and tasted delightful. It was such a relaxing stay overall! I would love to return to this Hotel if given another opportunity!

    Relaxed and Quality Time

This is my second stay at this accommodation. I visited for a special occasion and truly appreciate the thoughtful gestures. The room was both luxurious and elegantly simple, with a refined sense of luxury in the furnishings like the bed and sofa. I also found the music in the room very soothing. I enjoyed multiple visits to the onsen, which provided deep relaxation for both body and mind. The heated flooring in front of the sink was also much appreciated. Dinner was served with care, featuring heartfelt dishes that I thoroughly enjoyed in a silky-smooth dining space. We had planned to visit Tateishi Park to see the night view, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience with a beautiful car ride, Suwa Lake's shimmering lights, and wonderful travel memories created along the way. Every staff member provided exceptional hospitality throughout our stay. This is truly a lovely hotel that I would love to visit again someday. Thank you for everything!

A Hotel You'll Want to Visit Again and Again

I was so impressed during my previous stay that I decided to visit again. Upon arrival, I was immediately shown to my Room, and the welcome sweets served as an afternoon tea were luxurious and delightful. The Room had been renovated, making it even more pleasant, which truly uplifted my mood. The view from the Room directly overlooks Lake Suwa; the lake's surface turned a stunning red during sunset, and with a full moon that night, I could see a beautiful moonlit path on the water. In the morning, clear skies revealed Mount Hotaka across the lake for an incredible view. You can also enjoy views of the lake from the private bath in your Room while relaxing in warm water. The restaurant is elegantly divided by lace-like curtains with chandelier-style lighting that enhances the atmosphere. The French course meal seemed different from last time but was crafted with excellent ingredients and preparation. Two meat dishes were served: tongue and steak with matsutake mushrooms—both delicious. The final rice dish offered a unique choice between ochazuke or silk curry, both equally tasty. Even dessert and coffee were prepared meticulously to ensure everything remained delightful until the end. The staff provided their usual attentive and friendly service; they even washed my car, which was such a nice touch! I would love to come back again!

    A cozy and homely Hotel

I stayed here to celebrate a personal anniversary. Although there were other guests, it was not bothersome at all, and the semi-private dining area allowed us to enjoy a relaxed and private time. The staff's attentiveness and warm personalities were excellent, accommodating various requests flexibly and pleasantly, which made me feel at ease entrusting everything to them. I heard that some people who own villas in this summer resort area use this accommodation every time they return home, and I can understand why they choose this place. I would love to stay here again during the fireworks season.

    Impressive touches throughout

Although located by Lake Suwa, this Hotel is in the city with a busy road in front, so the environment isn't ideal. However, the atmosphere inside was excellent and very comfortable. The welcome sweets were a delightful surprise that impressed my wife right from the start. The dinner was exceptional, with every dish being delicious and abundant. Additionally, services like car washing added to the thoughtful touches throughout our stay, leaving us as devoted fans of this Hotel. That said, there was one issue: the EV charging Facility in the parking lot is Toyota-based and quite difficult to use for first-timers. Despite preparing by downloading the TOYOTA Wallet app and registering a credit card beforehand, it took about 20 minutes of frustration to figure out how to use it. I wish they had installed more user-friendly options like Terra Charge instead. While this isn't directly managed by the Hotel itself, I felt compelled to share this feedback as it might not be commonly conveyed. Regardless of this minor inconvenience, we would love to visit again! Thank you for everything!

The meals were visually appealing and delicious. However, the bacon at breakfast was hard and cold. Since the timing is provided, we hope this can be considered during preparation.

Enjoy a pleasant time while taking in the autumn scenery of Lake Suwa.

The Room was clean, offering a wonderful view of Lake Suwa while enjoying welcome sweets. The massage chair was convenient and relaxing. The bath with quince was very soothing, though it would have been even better to have bathrobes considering the price range. We also enjoyed the bath at Katakura-kan. For dining, dinner featured a well-balanced portion of seasonal dishes. The matsutake mushrooms we were looking forward to were thick and aromatic, meeting our expectations. However, breakfast was disappointing as it felt like just cut or grilled items without much impression. The staff members were pleasant and welcoming. Thanks to their high-quality service, we had a comfortable and wonderful time for which we are deeply grateful. We definitely look forward to visiting again!

    The meals were excellent.

The high Review ratings had me excited to visit, and it was everything I hoped for—no, even better. I had informed them about ingredients I dislike, and their attention to detail was beyond expectations—it was truly touching. Dinner portions were quite generous, but everything was so delicious that I finished it all. For breakfast, I chose the Japanese-style meal, and it might have been the best I've ever had. The Room lighting (such as switches) was a bit tricky to figure out, and the drink selection in the lounge wasn't exactly to my taste—though these are minor observations rather than complaints. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great this time around; I'd love to visit again on a sunny day. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality!

    It was a wonderful stay.

I had always been curious about this accommodation every time I visited Lake Suwa, and this time I stayed for the first time. The interior of the building was as beautiful as its exterior, the room was spacious, and there was an onsen in the room. The original amenities were also very lovely. After checking in at the room, I was impressed by the afternoon tea service. The meals were colorful and heartfelt dishes. Since I ate too much, I took a walk around Lake Suwa at night. My mother, who stayed with me, was also very pleased. I would love to come back again!

    Thank you for your patronage.

This was my first visit. The accommodation is in a great location with a view of the lakeside scenery. The staff at arrival and check-in were friendly and welcoming, which made for a pleasant experience. The dinner was extremely delicious, and both the atmosphere of the restaurant and the chef's attentiveness were excellent. Thank you for providing such a luxurious meal and time. Additionally, the hotel and room offered an exceptionally luxurious space. On our stay date, there was a fireworks display at Lake Suwa. The staff who handled our check-in as well as those serving dinner informed us that we could enjoy watching it, so we were looking forward to it. However, when we tried to step out onto the room’s balcony, there were spider webs everywhere on the balcony along with visible spiders moving around. The balcony floor did not appear to have been cleaned either. The ceiling of the balcony also had many small cotton-like clumps hanging down, making it unappealing to go outside onto it. From inside our 3rd-floor room, only parts of high-reaching fireworks could be seen; unfortunately, we couldn’t enjoy them fully. Furthermore, I noticed spider webs on both the ceiling of our room and in the toilet area. Overall, I felt that the service received did not match up with what I paid for this stay.

This was my first visit after the rebranding, and everything had improved significantly. The cuisine, in particular, featured creative menus that I thoroughly enjoyed. The hospitality was exceptional, with every staff member offering service with a smile. K-san, who served our meal, left a very positive impression as well. I hope you continue to maintain this high standard. I look forward to visiting again in the future!

    High-quality Hotel, Sincere Hospitality

We stayed as a couple and chose a room on the 3rd floor to enjoy the Summer Night Fireworks. The room's design and facilities were high-level, as expected for this class, allowing us to have a comfortable stay. During our stay, we discovered that the 3rd floor offered additional perks such as freshly ground drip coffee, complimentary drinks in the in-room refrigerator, a lounge with free drinks on the same floor, and unique furnishings—making it an even more premium experience. As usual, we contacted the accommodation via email and phone before our stay for inquiries and sightseeing advice. They responded attentively to our requests regarding food preferences, amenity explanations, arrival time notifications, sightseeing consultations, and nearby lunch recommendations. For dinner, we selected the Premium Shinshu Beef Course. The portion size was just right with creative touches that made it enjoyable. During dinner service, there was an incident where staff members seemed to be discussing business matters over the phone quite loudly. After reporting this post-dinner, not only did they apologize immediately but also followed up during breakfast by explaining their investigation into the cause and their plans for improvement. Their sincere response earned our trust. Looking ahead, here are some areas where improvements could be made: 1) Guidance on "Katakura-kan" While understandable from a hotel perspective, Katakura-kan is essentially "a local public bath." While its historical architecture and use as a film location were enjoyable aspects of visiting it—clarifying upfront that it is indeed "a public bath" might set better expectations. When I visited for bathing purposes myself—it appeared many young men had recently used facilities beforehand; resulting floating hair/dirt particles detracted slightly from overall experience quality therein. 2) Attention To Detail Regarding “Special Features” Efforts toward incorporating locally-produced items resonate positively (e.g., towels/roomwear left lasting impressions). However bedding arrangements felt somewhat overly elaborate instead perhaps simpler alternatives suffice? Additionally superior audio systems provided would benefit greatly if smartphone connectivity options existed enhancing user convenience further still! 3) Potential For Further Enhancement Although limited personal experiences exist elsewhere certain accommodations employ concierge services capable gathering detailed insights surrounding regional shops/tourist attractions offering tailored guidance/reservations accordingly! Instances include concierges proactively greeting guests upon check-in or responding pre-arrival queries arranging taxis/specialty dessert orders etcetera showcasing untapped growth opportunities herein potentially worth exploring moving forward!

    It was a memorable stay.

After two years of planning to stay, I finally had the opportunity to book this accommodation. The experience was absolutely satisfying. From the delightful welcome sweets comparable to afternoon tea, to the room, onsen, and meals—everything exceeded expectations. Additionally, enjoying the 10-minute Suwa Lake fireworks right in front of me made it an unforgettable stay. I look forward to returning in the future. Thank you very much!

    It was relaxing.

The tiredness from the concert at Lake Kawaguchi the previous day was gently soothed here. This accommodation offers exceptional hospitality with an abundance of welcome sweets, complimentary fridge drinks, and even a car wash service. The linens were incredibly comfortable, and the amenities, including bamboo items and carefully selected room furnishings, reflected great attention to detail. The staff were all very polite, kind, and quick to respond to any requests. Thank you so much! Everything was so perfect that I found myself noticing minor details—humans can be quite indulgent! For instance, a small section of wallpaper in the beautifully arranged room was peeling off and caught my eye repeatedly. Also, one of the speakers seemed not to be working despite being thoughtfully chosen. As for breakfast, some items like salad appeared pre-set in advance... I'm sorry for mentioning this—it was just slightly disappointing. I truly admire your passionate commitment to quality service and facilities. Operating such a hotel with limited rooms at this price must be challenging. Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay. Lastly, I would like to express my respect for your wonderful philosophy displayed in the library: "Do not sell it; do not lend it; do not break it."

    I was very satisfied...

I was very satisfied with the Hotel as it met my expectations. However, I found the temperature adjustment of the Room bath to be difficult due to high water temperature. Additionally, I felt that the air conditioning effect on the bed during sleep was slightly insufficient, possibly because of the Room layout making it harder for cool air to reach. Even considering these points, I believe it was a highly satisfying stay overall. The car wash service upon arrival and welcome dessert were excellent touches.

    Slippers are provided...

I believe this is quite a luxurious accommodation, but I was disappointed with the slippers provided in the room. They seemed reused, like those found in countryside homes. For an accommodation costing over 50,000 yen per night, I would expect at least disposable and fluffy slippers. You might think it's just about slippers, but considering how often they are used—when changing clothes, taking a bath, or getting out of bed—I believe more attention should be given to this detail. Honestly, I hesitated to even put my feet into them... When we arrived late for check-in at night, we received a call saying "The staff will no longer be available soon; please ring the bell when you arrive." It felt like it was more for the convenience of the management than for us as guests. The facility itself is clean and located right in front of a lake; however, overall it was a disappointing hotel experience. But seriously—the slippers need to be changed! It's such a waste otherwise.

    A Luxurious Stay

When visiting the Barakura English Garden in Tateshina, I decided to stay at this accommodation by Lake Suwa to also enjoy the onsen. It turned out to be a very satisfying choice. First, the location is excellent, right in front of Lake Suwa. The shuttle service from Kami-Suwa Station was comfortable as well. The beautiful building and interior design, attentive service, and especially the natural hot spring water directly flowing into the room's private bath were outstanding features. Just soaking for a short time improved my blood circulation significantly. This hotel beautifully embodies both Suwa's ancient traditions and its history of industrial development since the Meiji era, as represented by places like Katakura-kan. The Barakura English Garden is just over 30 minutes away by car, and with the famous unagi restaurant "Furuhata" nearby, it truly made for an exceptional stay. Thank you very much!

    A Highly Satisfying Stay

I finally had the chance to stay at the Western-style accommodation by Lake Suwa that I had been curious about for a long time. The accommodation offers natural Onsen, delicious meals, excellent service, and a truly relaxing atmosphere, making it a rare gem where I could spend my time comfortably. Staying at this small yet clean and classical Western-style accommodation was an incredibly pleasant experience. The hotel itself exudes tranquility, and the staff provided exceptional hospitality. After being shown to my room upon arrival, I enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea that was prepared for guests. For dinner, the creative French cuisine was outstanding; each sauce for the hors d'oeuvres, poisson, and viande was particularly exquisite. From amuse-bouche to grand dessert, you could feel the chef's dedication in every dish—it was truly delicious French dining. Additionally, the hotel is located within the same premises as historical landmarks like Katakura-kan and Sennin-buro (Thousand-person Bath). Inside the hotel is also a gallery where you can learn about Katakura's history. The room was kept impeccably clean with breathtaking views of Lake Suwa right in front of me—stretching out towards distant Alps—with nearby features like Ishibori Park along its shores blending seamlessly into one picturesque scene that brought peace to my mind throughout my stay. I would love to visit again someday!

    Hidden Resort Destination

I had a pleasant Multiple Night Stay. The location was convenient, with beautiful views of Lake Suwa and its surroundings, allowing for a relaxing time. Around the lakeside, there are walking paths, parks, various sculptures, and benches in many places where you can spend your time freely. Children were climbing on the sculptures or exploring an open train car that you could enter freely. Despite no signs like "Do not litter" or "No graffiti," the area was impressively clean. The Hotel by the lakeside offered stunning views from the Room as well as from the semi-open-air bath in our Room. The massage chair was a nice touch, and I appreciated the quality of bath towels and loungewear provided. However, it was disappointing that there were no bathrobes available; I later learned they could be rented but didn’t notice any indication about this during my stay. As I would love to return again someday, here are some points for improvement: - Slippers for use in the Room: Since guests may take multiple baths during their stay, having towel-material slippers would be appreciated. - Toothbrushes: The one provided irritated my lips to the point of swelling; I ended up buying one at a convenience store on my second night. - Meals: The food was delicious overall—especially loved the Silk Curry and bread! For breakfast though while everything tasted great—having identical appetizers for both Japanese and Western options felt slightly off-balance. For Japanese-style meals specifically, it would be better if appetizers were replaced with side dishes more suitable as accompaniments to rice. Also adding tea alongside Japanese breakfasts would enhance enjoyment. - Terrace cleanliness: While every corner inside our Room was spotless—the terrace seemed neglected with even insects found on slippers left outside. Despite these minor issues—I thoroughly enjoyed two nights filled with delicious meals & relaxing baths! Thank you very much! I also highly recommend trying out their large communal Thousand-Person Bath!

    A wonderful accommodation.

Stayed at (206 | RINZU). The room was excellent. We appreciated that the bed was not by the window but placed further inside. Of course, the view from the window was perfect. The room had a deodorizing clean device, which showed great hospitality. The meals, including seating arrangements, were also impeccable. As an elderly couple, we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food (we finished everything). The dessert was personally brought by the head chef. The staff's service was commendable as well. They even provided hand car washing service—an amazing touch! We now have one more accommodation we'd love to stay at again someday.

We enjoyed a thoroughly attentive and thoughtful experience.

I visited with my mother and wife. It was my late father's 63rd wedding anniversary with my mother on that day, and we were greeted with a beautiful bouquet of flowers upon arrival, which made my mother very happy. The Room and meals had a relaxing atmosphere, allowing us to unwind completely. Next time, I would love to visit during the fireworks season.
