The cool climate and attentive service will melt away the stresses of city life.
We stay here every year, and since the rebranding and reopening, both the cuisine and the service have been taken to an even higher level—making for a truly satisfying stay. I was genuinely impressed by the chef’s careful selection of ingredients and the time and effort put into each dish. Even breakfast featured thoughtfully prepared items, and our food-loving family was more than satisfied. Being able to see the chef at the end of the meal and exchange a few words made dining even more special. The course itself reflected the chef’s warm personality, which makes us look forward to our next visit. We would love to return in a different season. Thank you for making our family vacation such a meaningful time.

Lake Suwa After a Long Time
The trip from home was a bit long and left me tired, but the gorgeous welcome dessert and a soak in the Onsen really refreshed me. After a delicious dinner, we even got to watch fireworks, which lifted my spirits again. Relaxing in a lovely Room while listening to jazz—and enjoying the complimentary wine—made everything feel wonderfully taken care of. They even offered a car wash service. Choosing this Hotel made for a truly great trip. Thank you very much.

The Best Hotel Stay
Although it is a luxury Accommodation, the hospitality is outstanding and it offers great value for the price! We could also enjoy the Summer Night fireworks beautifully from our Room, which made for wonderful summer memories. We will definitely visit again. Thank you very much for everything.

Blissful Moments
Lake Suwa stretches out right in front of the Room, offering an outstanding view. I felt this Hotel was exceptionally high quality in every aspect—Room, cuisine, and service. The cuisine made generous use of carefully selected local ingredients, and I truly enjoyed it while sensing the chef’s dedication and passion in the seasoning and presentation. From the Room layout to the decor, furnishings, bedding, amenities, and cleanliness, everything felt refined and superb. The restaurant features semi-private seating separated by silk curtains, allowing me to enjoy the meal in a very calm atmosphere. Throughout my stay, time flowed gently and I was able to relax and fully enjoy an extraordinary experience. I would love to return.

Hotel with panoramic lake views
The Room had a pleasant atmosphere and felt very clean. The meals were exceptionally delicious, and the attentive service throughout was excellent. There were many birds in the garden, and we thoroughly relaxed while dining.

We had a wonderful, comfortable stay.
Thank you very much for the commemorative gift for our fifth stay, and the birthday present as well. Thanks to the staff’s heartfelt hospitality, we were able to spend a truly comfortable time.

Everything was perfect in every way.
The staff were wonderful, and we had a very comfortable stay. The food was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. In particular, when my son’s wife started feeling unwell during the meal, you kindly helped her back to our Room in a wheelchair and brought the rest of the meal to the Room. Thank you again. This was our second stay, and next time we would love to watch the fireworks over Lake Suwa from an in-Room hot spring bath with free-flowing source water.

So glad we came—an amazing Hotel.
A historic lakeside Hotel—an extraordinary escape from everyday life. Every dish was delicious, and the Shinshu Premium Beef Chateaubriand in particular was exquisite. The Silk Curry lived up to its reputation—so tasty that even though I was full, I finished it in no time. After dark, we went out to Tateishi Park to see the night view said to have inspired Itomori Lake in *Your Name*. It was my first time at Lake Suwa, and I never imagined it would be such a wonderful place. On the way, we also stopped by the Yatsugatake Kogen Hutte I’d long wanted to visit, and on the way back we drove through Kirigamine before heading home. Thank you for the great memories! The Hotel was great, and the views were outstanding. Next time, I’d love to visit in a different season.

We had a very relaxing stay.
Aside from not being able to enjoy the views due to unfortunate weather, we were able to relax and enjoy a high-quality stay in every respect. The bath in the Room is indeed quite hot and not easy to enter right away, but taking it as proof of free-flowing natural hot spring water made it feel refreshing in its own way. The property was well maintained and comfortable throughout, and the meals were just the right amount—everything was delicious. My only regret was the in-room coffee machine; I’ve never found these to taste good anywhere, so I should have brought drip coffee packs. We’ll visit again in a different season—bringing our own coffee.

First time since the renovation
It’s about a six-hour drive from home, but I stayed here twice before the renovation. After it was rebuilt into a luxurious Accommodation in a beautiful Western-style mansion, my expectations were high. Parking is valet-style—and it even comes with a car wash service! That’s truly exceptional and unlike anywhere else. After a long highway drive, it felt great to see my car spotless and shining the next morning. Check-in is done in your Room, and afterward you can enjoy welcome sweets like an afternoon tea set. One disappointment was that the staff member’s explanation at that time was far too brief for an Accommodation of this level (sweat). I also think housekeeping could be improved a bit more. With the Diamond benefit, we enjoyed plenty of complimentary items from the minibar lol. The in-Room bath is free-flowing hot spring water; since there’s a road in front, I used it with part of the screen closed for privacy. Because the source temperature is high, you have to add cold water (which feels wasteful) and stir with the mixing paddle before getting in. You can’t soak for too long, but it was wonderful water that warmed me up thoroughly lol. The bed and bedding are designed for restful sleep and were very comfortable. A bathrobe can be provided upon request. (There was no 안내 at check-in, but I knew from another guest’s blog beforehand so I was able to use one lol.) The pajamas were also high quality and extremely comfortable to wear. For dinner, we enjoyed the “Shinshu Beef Premium Course.” For breakfast, you can choose either Japanese or Western as your main; my husband and I chose different ones, and both were delicious. Since there was a good speaker in the Room, my husband experimented until he connected his smartphone so we could enjoy music through it as well. I also mentioned this in the survey—if you could refer to it and use it when creating future audio instructions, I would be happy. The female staff member who assisted us at dinner, as well as the male staff member who assisted us at breakfast and during checkout, provided courteous service—truly impressive professionalism. When we visit around Lake Suwa again, we would love to stay here again. Thank you very much.

This is a truly wonderful Hotel.
I stayed with my elderly mother. The staff were very courteous, and we had a truly enjoyable time. Thank you very much. A few things I noticed: regarding the private open-air Onsen bath in the room, there are steps and a handrail on the outside of the tub, but there is no step inside and it is quite deep, so in the end my elderly mother was unable to use it. Also, there is a blind on the far side of the tub, but you cannot close it unless you get into the hot water first, which makes opening and closing it difficult in practice. I hope this can be improved in the future. The dinner was a French full-course meal and was delicious; however, breakfast was served in an unusually heavy-looking black two-tier ceramic box, and even when choosing Western-style breakfast, items such as hijiki seaweed and kinpira were included, which felt unnecessary. Fruit compote was served for dessert as well, but it seemed to have been cut long beforehand and stored in the refrigerator, so it did not feel fresh. The welcome dessert was also left covered with plastic wrap; I wondered if leaving fresh sweets or fruit like that without serving them directly—resulting in them drying out—was really appropriate. Although this is described as a suite room, there is no wall/door/curtain separating the entrance door from the hallway area from the rest of the room at all, so it did not feel relaxing and lacked privacy. I think some improvement here would help. That said, overall both our room and the property were very beautiful, and I would like to return someday during fireworks season. Thank you for taking care of us.

Stay one night on your way back to your parents’ home.
It was a wonderful Hotel, just as the reviews said. The Hotel’s design, Facilities, and Room were all high-grade—spacious, spotless, and the bath was outstanding. The hospitality was also excellent; they took care of everything and even hand-washed and polished our car. We have stayed at many Hotels and Ryokan, but this was a first for us. As for the food, there were many elaborate menu items; however, the roast beef at dinner was quite fatty and felt heavy for us in our late 60s, which was disappointing. Other than the meals, it was a perfect 10 out of 10.

A Great Accommodation
The indoor bath with continuously flowing hot spring water was available as many times as I liked, and it warmed me up thoroughly. Thank you for your kind service.

The hospitality is exceptional.
This was my second stay. The unbeatable location, with magnificent Lake Suwa spreading out right in front of you, and the thoughtful care of the staff made for a truly comfortable visit. When I checked in at 3:00 PM, the procedures were handled at a relaxed pace after being shown to my Room, and they also provided a complimentary car-wash service. Because the semi-open-air bath in the Room is fed by free-flowing hot spring water and can be enjoyed again and again, I chose a Plan without dinner and spent a quiet evening relaxing in my Room. For breakfast, I enjoyed a delicious meal on the first floor while looking out at the garden through the glass. With well-stocked amenities and wonderfully comfortable towels, this is an excellent Hotel worthy of the name “Katakura.”

We stayed here for a...
We stayed here for an event (a marathon) held at the Stone Sculpture Park. The start point was right in front of the property, which was very convenient. Dinner was also delicious. The Room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. After finishing the race, we were happy to receive tickets to use the neighboring Onsen Facility (Katakurakan), so we could take a bath before heading home.

A comfortable Hotel where you can relax in quiet elegance without pretense.
This is a great Hotel where you can relax and enjoy a quiet stay. The Facilities are well-equipped, clean, and refined. I thought it would be a good place to visit when you want to rest and recharge. You can spend your time elegantly, yet without any pretension.

A comfortable, highly recommended Facility with excellent service.
We stayed in Room 301 at the far end of the 3rd floor and chose the Plan that included a bottle of Izutsu Wine Chardonnay. Right after check-in, afternoon tea was served. It was delicious, and it was wonderful that the Room even had containers for taking leftovers home. If I had to make one request, I’d love to see some savory items added—like a traditional British afternoon tea—rather than having mostly sweets. There is an exclusive lounge on the 3rd floor with complimentary drinks. A wine self-serve dispenser was recently installed, and each guest received a coin to use it. Their attitude of carefully listening to guest feedback and continuously improving services is truly commendable. The Room was bright and comfortable, with a free-flowing Onsen bath fed directly from the source. However, because the source temperature is high, the water near the top of the tub becomes very hot, so you need to stir it or add water. Even if you test it by hand, it can still feel too hot once you get in, so I wished there were some kind of bath thermometer. Also, it would be even more comfortable if hand soap were provided in the toilet as well. Dinner uses ingredients gathered from various regions, so it’s not specifically “Suwa/Nagano French,” but every dish was refined and delicious—clearly worthy of its awards—and showed delicate sensibility. The woman who served us (I later learned she was new) provided smooth service without being overly formal; I was impressed and felt their training matches their Hotel rank. For breakfast we ordered one Japanese set and one Western set; compared with dinner’s finesse, it was disappointing that the Eggs Benedict seemed to use mayonnaise rather than having its authentic flavor. They offer full valet parking: they even wash your car while keeping it and have it waiting at the entrance at checkout—an exceptional level of customer service that’s rare elsewhere. While there are a few areas that could be improved, overall this is an excellent Facility where we would gladly stay again.

Enjoy the stunning views of Lake Suwa
Stayed after Golden Week in May. We stayed in a Room on the 3rd floor. Check-in was handled in the Room, and we enjoyed welcome service with tea and sweets... It felt wonderfully luxurious, which was great. The sweets were very delicious. The location was also fantastic, allowing us to look out over Lake Suwa while playing music in the Room. There was also an Onsen in the Room, and by letting the hot water cool slightly, we were able to soak slowly while enjoying the view of Lake Suwa. As for the meals, I wondered if a French-style course would really fill us up, but it turned out to be a satisfying meal that left us full! The curry rice was especially delicious. The Hotel staff’s hospitality was pleasant as well. Overall, it was a wonderful Accommodation. Thank you very much.

We were very satisfied with the meals, Room, and service.
We chose to stay here this time because it has great reviews on IKYU. Everything in the Accommodation was spotless, the Onsen was very relaxing, and we were extremely satisfied with the meals. The warm hospitality from all the staff was outstanding. We were also allowed to tour the Kikuno-ma Guest House on the same grounds; it was a quiet, historic building that truly conveyed a sense of history. We would love to visit again.

We had a wonderful stay.
This was my second stay, and I rated it even higher than before. The meals were outstanding—every dish was expertly prepared using excellent ingredients, and I truly enjoyed them. I chose a different Room from last time, and it was clean and very comfortable to stay in. I have stayed at various luxury Accommodations, but very few offer a car wash service timed for checkout. As the concept is clearly to focus on attention to detail in every aspect, I think the level of hospitality deserves high praise. Compared with my previous visit, it felt like there were slightly fewer staff members, but I still had no issues during my stay. I will definitely return again. Thank you very much.

I love the Hotel’s name—“Silk,” with its graceful, refined ambiance.
This was my second stay, and once again I was 120% satisfied. My Room was No. 203 “HABUTAE,” and the view of Lake Suwa from the window is truly soothing. The gallery space is also spacious and relaxing, and it made me feel genuinely happy to be back at Lake Suwa. This time I was also able to use the neighboring “Sennin Bath.” It has a wonderful retro charm. Dinner, which I had been looking forward to, was the “La Soie course.” The amuse-bouche, titled “Chef’s Style,” featured purple cabbage, cold beef, foie gras mousse, and fried potatoes arranged in perfect balance. Next came an appetizer of “Instant-Smoked Roasted Aomori Duck Breast,” beautifully presented as a colorful salad wreath. It was a presentation I’d never seen before and raised my expectations even more for what followed. The fish dish was “Roasted Monkfish with Ichida Persimmon and Jerusalem Artichoke Purée,” finished with an aromatic truffle oil sauce—absolutely enchanting. The soup was a “Scallop and Mushroom Flan” with a red bell pepper purée sauce that felt wonderfully vibrant. For the meat dish, I had the “Shinshu Premium Beef Fillet Steak,” perfectly cooked as requested with an excellent balance of fat and lean meat—I’m glad I’m more of a carnivore than an herbivore. (Root garlic chives from Uehara Farm, salted lemon, and Azumino wasabi also paired beautifully with the beef.) For the final savory course you can choose between “Shinshu Premium Beef Silk Curry” or “Seared Simmered Conger Eel Hitsumabushi-Style Dashi Chazuke,” so my partner and I ordered different dishes. Personally, my vote goes to the chazuke. Dessert kept coming: first, “Fromage Blanc Bonbons with Silk Powder,” then “Grog with Thin Apple Pie Served with Caramel Cinnamon Ice Cream.” After a great night’s sleep, I chose Japanese breakfast. The appetizers—ratatouille; oyaki dumplings filled with walnut paste; marinated cutlassfish nanbanzuke; seared bincho tuna; caprese; prosciutto pickles—were beautifully plated. The grilled fish was overnight-dried nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) served with grated daikon radish. Alongside rolled omelet and pickles, it made it dangerously easy to keep eating bowls of Nagano-grown Kijimadaira rice. And don’t forget dessert: a fruit cocktail in rosehip tea with milk kanten jelly. After finishing our meal, I glanced at the next table—Western-style breakfast looked delicious too. Next time I may choose that instead. Both the Room and dining were wonderful, and I’ll be back again in July at this Silk Hotel where Lake Suwa feels like part of your own garden view.

Nothing but unbelievable things
It is painful to recall, but this was truly the worst experience of my life. Due to personal circumstances, I had to leave suddenly before dinner, and I am sincerely sorry for the inconvenience caused. I should have apologized directly to the chef who prepared everything, but I was too upset at the time and regret that as well. However, even before that, I had already had various doubts about the Facility—such as the quality of the furnishings and cleanliness considering the price. Moreover, when I explained why I needed to leave, the staff member’s response was beyond what is acceptable for Hotel staff; it was simply unbelievable for anyone working in hospitality. I felt there was an extreme mismatch between the price and both the Facility and staff service. I did not have a chance to try the food so I cannot comment on it, but I am sure it is excellent. The Onsen was also high quality and wonderful, but at this price point I will never return. I feel bad leaving this comment when some people speak highly of this Hotel, but these are my honest impressions. That said, it may not be true that all staff were terrible.

A lovely Hotel by the lake.
This is a Hotel I had been curious about for some time. It has an excellent location right in front of Lake Suwa (there is a road in between, but that seems unavoidable for any Accommodation around Lake Suwa). The food was delicious, and I was very satisfied. Since we stayed for two nights, we had both Japanese and Western breakfasts, and I especially enjoyed the Japanese breakfast. The quality of the towels was the best of any Accommodation I have stayed at so far. Next time, I’d like to visit in summer and enjoy cycling.

For the second night, breakfast only (no dinner).
This was a Multiple Night Stay, but I made separate Reservations depending on whether dinner was included. For breakfast, everything except coffee and tea was different from the first night. It was nice to relax with a non-buffet breakfast as well. Breakfast included: salad, a platter of six appetizers, salad, a smoothie and yogurt, one main dish (choose one from three Western options or one Japanese option), dessert (mostly fruit), and coffee or tea. The bread is delicious. Butter is also provided. The jam portion is far too small. It’s a bit disappointing that there are no other drink options besides coffee and tea. In the morning, the napkins are the common disposable paper type. Thick hand towels (oshibori) are available at both dinner and breakfast. The coffee creamer is good quality. The cleaning and restocking I requested while I was out in Matsumoto were perfect—thank you very much. There are three dinner course options, so even on a Multiple Night Stay you can change the menu without much price difference, but I skipped it on the second night. Your help with my various requests and with my luggage was also greatly appreciated. My car was cleaned as well, and wet wipes were left inside—thank you very much.

Dinner and breakfast are included on the first night.
This was my first stay, but my family stayed last year and said the food was so delicious they couldn’t finish it, so I decided to book. It’s a small Hotel, but every Room has a Lake Suwa view and a private Onsen. Of all the Hotels I’ve stayed at in Suwa, this was the best. The price isn’t cheap, but the Room is spacious, and valet parking, car wash service, meals, welcome dessert, and drinks in both the lounge and the in-Room refrigerator are free. For dinner I chose the Shinshu beef course. The restaurant feels like semi-private dining with lovely curtain partitions. Even the napkins were silk. The horse-meat carpaccio, beef stew, steak, and more were excellent. My family said the portions have become smaller than before and there was less dessert as well. For women it’s an eco-friendly amount that lets you enjoy everything through to the end, but for me it felt a bit light. Still, the ingredients and seasoning were great. There is no large public bath in the Hotel, but we received free tickets to Katakurakan’s “Thousand-Person Bath” next door. The bath in the Room is also free-flowing from the source (kakenagashi), and the towels are high quality. The amenities are thoughtfully selected, and there is even floor heating in the bathroom for extra comfort. The bathrobes on the free loan list were also high quality and comfortable. There was also a massage chair in the Room. The slippers were plush, and there were sandals for walking outside. The only reasons I’d rate it 4/5 are some personal points: there was no black tea in the Room (the green tea was just standard tea bags). Coffee was authentic with beans you grind yourself (3rd floor only; 2nd floor has Nespresso). They had San Pellegrino but no other carbonated soft drinks. There was only one TV in the living area. The living-room sofa was just one bench-style seat. And at welcome dessert time, the tea tasted weak with a small serving size, and it wasn’t served by pot. Rates are higher on holidays, but overall I think it’s a very good Hotel. It’s close to a convenience store, and near station; Lake Suwa is right in front of you,and there are many restaurants nearby as well.

Enjoy an exceptional stay at Lake Suwa!!
I’ve been coming here since it first opened. Even back then, I remember being very satisfied with the services—such as the car wash service (still available) and the dessert cart after dinner. This was my fourth stay, and every time I visit, the service has been upgraded. What especially surprised me this time was the welcome dessert: it was served on a two-tier cake stand like an afternoon tea, and I couldn’t help but gasp. Every sweet was not only beautiful but even more delicious than it looked. We stayed to celebrate a special occasion, and I was truly touched to find a message card attached to the flowers. The thoughtful attention meant a lot. From our spacious Room—beautifully furnished with tasteful furniture and decor—we had a panoramic view of Lake Suwa. At night, the stars and city lights are stunning. The bath is an Onsen with free-flowing natural spring water that gushes up from beneath Lake Suwa’s lakebed; it warms you through to your core and instantly melts away everyday fatigue. There’s no doubt you’ll enjoy an exceptional stay. Dinner at the teppanyaki restaurant was outstanding in every way—the ingredients, flavors, and the chef’s personality and skill. (Everything was delicious, but personally, the beef stew was even better than that of a famous long-established Western-style restaurant known for its beef stew.) The staff were kind as always, making this another wonderful stay. It’s such a comfortable Hotel that it becomes truly addictive—I would definitely like to return again. Thank you very much for taking such great care of us.

A wonderful time
I had been hoping to visit for some time, and I was able to spend a truly wonderful stay. The location offers a magnificent view overlooking Lake Suwa. My daughter was also delighted with the welcome sweets we enjoyed in the Room. Learning about the history of the Katakura family also helped me understand the background behind Tomioka Silk Mill becoming a World Heritage Site. The Room furnishings, amenities, meals, and the staff’s attentive hospitality were all excellent. I especially loved the carefully selected original items and amenities, and I purchased some to take home. I would definitely like to visit again in a different season.

Silk Curry is exquisite!
The silk curry served as the finale to the creative French dinner was exquisite! The balance of mildness and spiciness was perfect. I even bought a retort pouch as a souvenir. The accommodation room had a comfortable bed with just the right size and firmness, making it very relaxing. The onsen attached to the room offered great water, and I enjoyed soaking in it multiple times. For the large public bath, guests can use the adjacent Katakura-kan, but since it was cold, I plan to try it next time. I would love to stay again during the summer fireworks festival season!
