  This is the quintessential Japanese Ryokan and Kaiseki cuisine.

  We stayed for one night on a birthday trip for a family of four from Paris. We wanted to experience the Gero Onsen, so we stayed in a room with a private onsen. The room, where we could relax privately, was very appreciated as we have two sons. The kaiseki cuisine was as delicious as rumored, and the hospitality of the staff was very soothing. The bath water was smooth and buttery. It made our skin smooth, and compared to other ryokans, it felt like there was less chlorine. (Personally, I was happy about this) I wanted to stay in the water forever. Everything was very satisfying. If we come to Gero Onsen again, we would like to stay at this ryokan again. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

  Although the food was delicious, there were issues with the service.

  [Room, etc.] The cleaning seemed thorough, but when I opened the closet to use the futon, I found the futons piled carelessly on the upper shelf and pillows thrown haphazardly on the lower shelf, which was unpleasant. The washroom and bath were separate, and the changing area was quite narrow without a laundry basket, which was inconvenient. However, the bath was spacious, at just the right temperature, and I could relax and soak comfortably, which was nice. [Food] The dinner was exquisite. I particularly liked the silver sauce, which was seasoned perfectly. The salt-grilled sweetfish was the best I've ever had. [Meals] Both breakfast and dinner were served in the room, but the way the elderly attendant placed and removed the dishes was rough and hurried, which was very concerning. During preparation, serving, and clearing, there was a loud clattering noise, and the dishes were placed on the table with a thud, which startled me. I understand they were busy, but I wished they would prioritize care over speed. Also, after they cleared the breakfast and left, I noticed the outside noise was unusually loud... and realized the room's entrance door had been left open. [Service] While we were eating dessert at dinner, a foreign staff member came to prepare the futon, but they shook the futon sheets vigorously right next to the table, causing dust to fly, which was unpleasant. Before check-in, a jacket that was stored with my bag was stuffed inside without permission, and bags were stacked on top of each other. This, along with the issues with meals and futons, was a first for me and left me bewildered. When we were waiting for the elevator to leave, two foreign staff members came down first, said "Thank you" and left, almost causing the elevator doors to close. The nearby attendant did not press the elevator button for us. At every Ryokan I've stayed at, I've been thanked for the gratuity at checkout, but not here. Honestly, I felt this Ryokan lacked consideration in many ways. There were attentive and pleasant staff members, such as those in kimonos, the young attendant during meals, and the male staff member at checkout. Their thoughtfulness for my mother's birthday was greatly appreciated. The meals and bath, which are the highlights of the trip, were excellent, making it all the more unfortunate and disappointing.

Although structural issues cannot be addressed immediately, we will consider them during future room renovations. Response regarding the [Meals] We apologize for the lack of etiquette and consideration from the staff in charge of your meals, which prevented your dinner time from being a wonderful experience despite your satisfaction. Additionally, leaving the entrance door open after breakfast is unacceptable. We sincerely apologize. We will thoroughly reinforce training on customer service manners. Response regarding the [Service] We acknowledge that your feelings are entirely justified, and we apologize for the inconvenience caused by our inadequate guidance and staff's shortcomings. We will instruct on the precautions when laying out futons, including the timing of doing so. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the staff's shortcomings, such as placing a jacket in your entrusted bag without permission and not assisting with the elevator. We are truly sorry. We are grateful for the valuable and appreciated feedback you have provided. We will take it seriously, inform all staff, and reinforce training on customer service.

  Refresh

  We were completely satisfied with the excellent hospitality, meals, and Onsen. At dinner, we enjoyed champagne, Italian cuisine, and delicious steak. The breakfast in the Room was also very satisfying. The Onsen water at Gero Onsen was gentle, leaving our skin smooth. We were able to refresh and escape from daily chores. Lastly, I wished to take a two-shot photo with the landlady.
