    I visited Hakone for the first time in a while, as I had been hesitant about inbound tourism. Since childhood, I have stayed at various Accommodations in Hakone in search of Onsen, and this became my favorite of them all. The service was exceptionally high quality, and the atmosphere was so comfortable that I was able to relax fully. The dishes served with the five-wine pairing were elegant and wonderful in both presentation and taste. I also appreciated your flexibility at check-out. I would love to visit again when I have the chance.

    Relaxing Time

    In an IKYU promotion, I read about the attention to the sheets, and since I’m someone who cares not only about the bed but also how the sheets feel against my skin when staying at a Hotel, I really wanted to stay here. And true to what was written, it was extremely comfortable to sleep in. If I had one luxury request, I’d be even happier if the duvet cover were made of a slightly softer material against the skin... The dining truly lived up to its “Wakei Yosan” concept—an array of elaborate dishes unlike anything I’d tried before. And every single one was delicious. The wine pairing you recommended was also wonderful; I really admire your professional knowledge and sensibility! At check-in, we asked for one person’s meal portion to be served as half portions. We were grateful for that—it felt great to be able to finish every plate beautifully. That said, it would be nice if there were a “delicious small-portion” course available from the start. While strolling around the garden, we even came across deer. Despite being close to central Tokyo, we could feel nature all around us, and soaking in water with a faint sulfur scent was incredibly soothing—an exceptionally relaxing holiday getaway.

    A quiet accommodation for a relaxing stay

    The comfortable Onsen, the lush green view from the terrace, the delicious meals thoughtfully crafted one by one from appetizers to dessert, the attentive yet unobtrusive service, and the peaceful setting made for a wonderful stay. It is an Accommodation I would like to visit again in a different season.

    A Highly Satisfying 11th Anniversary Trip

    Soaking in the Onsen while watching deer, talking about the future, and enjoying drinks was the best!! The meal was also excellent, with perfect wine pairings. If you drink alcohol, I highly recommend the pairing.

    A quiet and relaxing Hotel

    The Onsen, the Room, and the overall setting are all excellent, but what I like most about this Hotel is the staff. In particular, their witty and charming conversation during meals is truly enjoyable and makes me want to visit again. The only issue was that there was nowhere to place clothes or a change of clothes while bathing.

    An Escape from the Everyday World

    We were able to relax as part of our summer vacation. The hospitality of everyone at the Accommodation was wonderful, and combined with the meals and overall quality, it made for an excellent stay.

    This Accommodation offers a relaxing, spacious stay for adults.

    We stayed at this Hotel in Hakone for the first time in a while. Since it is part of the Kanaya Hotel lineage, we expected it to be good, but it exceeded our expectations—it was truly wonderful. The staff’s warm hospitality and the excellent cuisine deeply impressed us. We also enjoyed talking with the staff about the story in a book provided in our Room—about the relationship between the Kanaya family and Fujiya Hotel, and about Aiichiro Fujiyama, known as an entrepreneur from the Taisho and Showa eras and a politician praised for his integrity, and his connection with Senji Kanaya. My spouse and I had a delightful conversation. We could really feel the staff’s affection for this Hotel, along with their confidence and pride, which we greatly admired. We hope to return again in autumn, and we look forward to experiencing this wonderful feeling once more. Thank you very much.

    Delicious meals and time that flows gently

    This was our first stay here. Although we originally planned to come by car and had to switch to the train at short notice, you still picked us up at the scheduled time. The Room was just the right size for two people, and we also appreciated how clean it was. There were plenty of amenities and many complimentary drinks, so we were able to relax and take our time. Each dish was carefully prepared, and combined with dining in a private room, it felt truly luxurious. Everything tasted excellent. We enjoyed the chocolates served at the end of dinner during our morning coffee time. The late-night snack was also refined and delicious. The bath required adjusting the temperature, but that actually allowed us to set it exactly how we liked it, which was great. As it is a sulfur hot spring, there was a faint scent that lingered after bathing, but it wasn’t too strong—just enough to feel its benefits. Breakfast was also delicious: kamameshi cooked with dashi with slightly indulgent side dishes, all thoughtfully prepared. Overall, we were truly satisfied with our stay.

    This is my first time using this service.

    I wanted a change from my usual Accommodation in Hakone, so I stayed here for the first time. I could really feel the care put into the meals. Nothing about the ingredients, pairings, or cooking methods felt ordinary—everything was surprising and delicious. I enjoyed every dish while thinking how much ongoing research and refinement must go into it. This has become an Accommodation I’d love to visit again. There was only one small thing I noticed: I wish there had been an ottoman in the Room. I wanted to stretch out my legs and relax. It was also my first time seeing deer in Hakone. It became a wonderful memory.

    Stylish Hotel

    It was a wonderful Hotel set in a spectacular location. The dinner was especially memorable—truly artistic cuisine unlike anything I’ve had before, paired beautifully with wines, making for a dreamlike evening. The service, including the sommelier, was flawless. Breakfast was also thoughtfully prepared, and the finishing ochazuke was outstanding. The building is elegant and calm without being overly ornate; overall, it is an exceptional Hotel that clearly carries on the legacy of Jankanya. Thank you for a delightful and relaxing stay.

    As expected of a Hotel with a long history.

    I found this Hotel while looking for somewhere nearby because it was discounted in the summer sale. When I told my wife, she said it was a Hotel she’d wanted to stay at for a long time but had assumed was too expensive. We booked immediately, and once we stayed there, we were amazed—it truly felt like a high-quality experience. It seems the Accommodation was renovated from its previous state a few years ago; some older touches remained here and there, but everything was nicely refreshed and the Room was comfortable. The semi-open-air Onsen bath uses water drawn from Hakone Owakudani, and it was an authentic sulfur Onsen—I did worry a bit about the plumbing. Soaking in the Onsen while listening to Japanese bush warblers sing was an incredibly luxurious moment. Dinner was a full-course French meal, and the grilled ayu sweetfish was exceptional. It’s apparently their specialty, and I ate everything—from head to bones to tail. Our Room was on the second floor and dinner is served in the basement, but there is no elevator, so it was a bit difficult since my wife has trouble with her legs. The service was excellent, and overall it’s a very good Hotel. It has become one of the Accommodations we’d like to return to.

    Thank you for your support.

    I have stayed here many times, and when I mentioned that my appetite had decreased due to health reasons, they kindly accommodated me with smaller portions. Even then, when clearing plates I couldn’t finish, they offered a thoughtful word in such a natural way that I was able to enjoy a pleasant dining experience. I’m always impressed by the staff’s attentiveness. As always, this time too, my husband and I found ourselves saying in the car on the way home that we’d like to come back again. Lastly, I would like to add that the bathroom door is always spotless—never a trace of water stains—so it’s truly comfortable to take a bath.

    Both dinner and brea...

    Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious, and the ayu served at dinner this time was especially outstanding. The bath in the Room was also spacious, allowing us to relax and soak comfortably. We were soothed by the greenery in the garden, and we were also happy to see wild deer. We would love to visit again.

    I was traveling solo, so I was a little nervous at first, but the staff interacted with me at just the right distance, making it a very comfortable trip.     Couples’ Trip

    The Room was very clean, and the open-air bath on the terrace was wonderful. We enjoyed the view in the morning, afternoon, and evening, and were able to relax. The meals were absolutely delicious—the best of any place we have stayed so far. We could also take a walk outside and saw deer.

    Exceptional hospitality

    I was suddenly able to take a summer vacation and was considering a luxury Hotel in Tokyo. In the middle of that, I saw Kanaya Resort Hakone recommended by a travel YouTuber and decided immediately—this is it! The spacious Room was wonderful, and the bath was an excellent Onsen that left my skin feeling silky smooth. Above all, every staff member truly embodied hospitality, and the service—from younger staff to seasoned professionals—was outstanding. The food was of course delicious; personally, the champagne and caviar pairing served at the beginning was my favorite. The sommelier’s wine selections were also impeccable. This time, I was able to relax deeply surrounded by nature. I will definitely return when work wears me out again. Thank you for such a moving experience.

    The Best Accommodation

    I have stayed at many Accommodations in Hakone, and I think this is the best of them all. This time, I requested a food-and-drink pairing, and both the cuisine and the selections of alcohol were outstanding—the drinks truly brought out the flavors of each dish. Thank you to all the staff for welcoming us with exceptional hospitality. I purchased the wine you recommended right away. We visited to celebrate a birthday, and we would love to return again.

    It was exactly as described in the overall review!

    We stayed at Kanaya Resort to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Given the high overall ratings, we had high expectations—and they were fully met. From the moment we entered, the indoor temperature was well controlled, and everything felt spotless and clean. We stayed in a suite. It was just the right size, thoroughly cleaned, and very comfortable, with high-quality amenities provided. The Onsen water from the natural hot spring source also lived up to its reputation, and we enjoyed it both morning and night. As for the meals, all of the staff were wonderful, and every dish was delicious. Above all, it left a great impression that all of the staff who served us were Japanese. Recently, we’ve been tired of some luxury Ryokan and Hotels in Hakone that seem geared toward inbound tourism but don’t match their pricing in reality. We were also impressed by everyone’s professional hospitality as Hotel staff and their neat appearance. It’s rare to find an Accommodation you truly want to return to, but Kanaya Resort is one we would love to visit again. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay.

    The staff’s outstanding hospitality, with just the right sense of distance, is exceptional.

    This was my second stay, and once again I was impressed by the staff’s perfectly balanced hospitality—friendly, yet never overly familiar. While there are many memorable aspects of the Accommodation—the building itself, the Onsen and other Facility offerings, and the meals—the most lasting impression is ultimately the people. You can truly feel a consistent service philosophy that carries on the refined spirit JOHN KANAYA aspired to, and it reminded me that this atmosphere is something only tradition can create. I can’t quite put it into specific words, but this has become my favorite Accommodation after this visit. The general manager who personally steps onto the floor to serve drinks, dinner, and breakfast, and the team members who strive to learn from that spirit and skill—it all left a deep impression on me. I honestly feel like coming every weekend. I will definitely return. Thank you very much!

    Enjoy a quiet stay.

    The service is polished and efficient like that of a first-class Hotel, while still being pleasantly conversational. As stated in the description, the property is not barrier-free, so it is recommended for guests who can manage stairs without difficulty. It feels a little quiet due to the lack of shared spaces (there is a restaurant and a small bar) and no shop, though that calm atmosphere may be exactly what some guests are looking for. The garden is full of nature, and I saw various animals while taking a walk.

    It was a quiet and relaxing Hotel.

    I was tired when I checked in after visiting the Hakone Three Shrines and the Wetland Botanical Garden, but after being treated to fresh Japanese sweets, I was promptly shown to my Room. Slippers had been prepared in advance so they were easy to put on, and even small details—like adjusting the temperature of the open-air bath—were thoughtfully taken care of. The staff maintained a perfect balance of attentiveness without being intrusive, which I really appreciated. The meals and Onsen were wonderful—truly delicious. In particular, the house specialty ayu (sweetfish) was exceptionally good. To be honest, I had never found river fish especially tasty before, but this completely won me over. The wine selection was also very satisfying. The late-night Room service option is a nice touch as well. Above all, I was grateful for how quiet and peaceful the space was.

    We were very satisfied.

    It rained for both days—my “rainy-day luck” struck again. Still, the recommended Onsen was very satisfying, including the location. The bed had been changed to a Hollywood twin setup, which I appreciated (it seemed pushed to one side, probably due to the lighting—one brief note about that would make it perfect). Dinner was very generous in portion size (I even enjoyed the late-night snack). Next time, I’d like to stay 2–3 nights and explore the surrounding area as well. I imagine there may be more insects around the Onsen in summer. I also asked the staff various questions about the dishes, and they responded very politely and thoughtfully—I’m truly grateful. This is an Accommodation I would definitely like to visit again.

    A thoughtfully crafted vegetarian course with quiet attention to detail

    I stayed here as a solo female international traveler and as a vegetarian. On the night before my arrival, I casually mentioned that I would be coming from another Accommodation the next day and would arrive earlier than check-in, so I planned to leave my luggage and take a short walk nearby. The Accommodation kindly replied, “Where are you heading? We can also arrange Shuttle Service,” and thoughtfully organized a ride toward a nearby museum. It wasn’t showy, but I felt their quiet warmth—gently sensing a guest’s feelings and plans. Before dinner, they again confirmed my dietary needs. In the past, when I ordered a vegetarian course at an upscale French restaurant, I was served little more than plain boiled vegetables on one plate, which made me feel that even fine dining doesn’t always mean vegetarian meals are carefully composed. Here, however, the chef created—just for me—a truly authentic French course centered on plant-based ingredients. The vegetable-and-bean minestrone was tomato-based yet layered with deep acidity, umami, and aroma—wonderfully rich. In one dish combining zucchini, spinach, and Hollandaise sauce, the corn kernels were not scattered but carefully shaved off in one sheet-like piece; it was so striking that only seconds after tasting it did I realize: “Ah—that was corn.” This course wasn’t simply the standard menu with meat or fish removed. The plant-based ingredients themselves were placed at the center; flavor, fragrance, texture, and satisfaction were all fully realized. I could feel sincerity toward the ingredients themselves, toward vegetarian guests, toward French culinary tradition—and toward their own craft. As for the Room: because the semi-open-air bath is close to the mountain slope side of the building (and at night it can feel slightly unsettling), there were moments of unease. Still overall there was an indescribable quietness throughout—the air felt clean and calm—and it was an excellent space to rest both body and mind. The greenery on site also felt less like deep mountain forest and more like gently spreading trees and lawn with a hint of everyday life; it reminded me of trees in quiet North American residential neighborhoods where I once lived, giving me an unexpected sense of familiarity. This is not an Accommodation that tries to impress through glamour or dramatic staging. Instead it offers clear stillness in its atmosphere—a calm space—and thoughtful care that lives in unobtrusive details. For those who want to spend time quietly alone—and for those who value sincerity behind food and service—I believe this is a truly special place to stay.

    I always enjoy staying here. During this visit, despite the trouble I caused through my own carelessness, all of the staff treated me with genuine warmth. When I fell ill, you responded quickly and thoughtfully, and I was deeply moved by the kind words from the manager as well. Of course, the cuisine and Onsen are wonderful, but more than anything, I once again felt that the staff’s character and exceptional hospitality are what make me want to return to this Accommodation again and again.     I stayed with my eld...

    I stayed with my elderly mother in a Room with a terrace. At dinner, we enjoyed the French cuisine—surprising pairings with Japanese ingredients and the beauty of the tableware—and every dish was exquisite. The open-air bath had wonderfully soothing water, and we were truly grateful that you also provided a bathing chair for my mother. You kindly accommodated our last-minute requests, which allowed us to fully enjoy the rich Japanese ingredients at breakfast as well. Thank you very much. When I woke up in the middle of the night and looked out at the terrace, it was magical to see two wild deer grazing on the grass—I was deeply moved. And the comfort of the France Bed Grand Suite was the best I have ever experienced. We had a truly wonderful time.

    Surrounded by greenery, it was wonderfully quiet, the staff were excellent, and the food was delicious—perfect for a relaxing stay. The Onsen features free-flowing natural spring water, and the temperature was just right—not too hot. A mother deer and her fawn were relaxing in the spacious garden. This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.
