    It was quiet, and I was able to relax and take my time.

    Surrounded by greenery, it was wonderfully quiet, the staff were excellent, and the food was delicious—perfect for a relaxing stay. The Onsen features free-flowing natural spring water, and the temperature was just right—not too hot. A mother deer and her fawn were relaxing in the spacious garden. This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.

    It was a wonderful experience.

    The in-room open-air bath and the view from it were wonderful. Everything in the dinner course was delicious, and I was especially captivated by the beauty of a dish called “Ranman.” Being able to enjoy dinner in a yukata at Kanaya Hotel was a nice touch.

    I will definitely stay here again.

    This was my first stay, and I was especially looking forward to the meals and the baths—both exceeded my expectations, and I was extremely satisfied with my stay. From the courteous service at check-in to every dish at dinner, everything was delicious, and the paired wines were truly excellent as well. I ended up too full to enjoy drinks at the bar after dinner as planned, so I’ll save that for next time. The hot spring water was wonderful, and I enjoyed soaking many times. One small suggestion: I would have appreciated slightly more premium amenities for women, and it would be great if body-care items and men’s amenities could also be provided in the Room. Overall—down to the towel thickness and how comfortable the bed was—it was a truly satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

    Thoughtfully designed with attention to every detail.

    The Room with an open-air bath was just right—nothing lacking, nothing excessive. The meal we had been looking forward to was nouvelle cuisine. It began with the signature egg and double consommé, followed by two fish dishes prepared in different styles. The chateaubriand (with an additional charge) melted in the mouth. My wife’s duck, which we shared, had an irresistible texture as well (laugh). After dinner at the bar, we asked them to make a Bull Shot using the double consommé served with the meal. With vegetable extract added, it was even better than a regular Bull Shot. Thank you for accommodating our request. For a late-night snack, we enjoyed “yonaki soba” and minestrone with Napoleon champagne and Kanaya chocolate. Breakfast was completely different—Japanese-style. There were lots of fun topping options to customize ochazuke. There is no large public bath, but it was great to enjoy the open-air bath in our Room multiple times. The property is compact and easy to get around, and the hospitality felt attentive in all the right ways—we were very satisfied.

    A refined, first-class ambiance cultivated by John Kanaya throughout the entire Hotel.

    It was an extremely satisfying stay. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the staff. Above all, the staff’s thoughtful, casual check-ins struck the perfect balance—neither too distant nor too close—creating a relaxing atmosphere. The food and the Room were, needless to say, impeccable, but I truly feel that the staff are this Hotel’s greatest asset. It really feels as though a great figure’s philosophy is still alive here today. Bravo.

    A Place to Return To

    As in previous years, we visited to celebrate a family birthday. This was our fifth stay, and for the first time we stayed in the John Kanaya Suite—where we received an even higher level of hospitality. Each time we visit, we think nothing could surpass the last experience, yet the hospitality always exceeds our expectations. We truly respect the Hotel staff who always take such great care of our family. It feels like we’ve finally found a place to come home to, so we’ll work hard and return again for some well-deserved rest.

    Kanaya Western Cuisine

    I’m a repeat guest. I have my preferences, but the French cuisine feels a bit underwhelming compared with Hiramatsu. I’d also like to see the menu updated more frequently. Overall, it’s a good Ryokan.

    A welcoming Accommodation with outstanding hospitality that will make you want to return

    We stayed in the John Kanaya Suite on our first family trip in a while. As soon as we entered the Room, sunlight poured in through the large windows, and the spacious 113 m² Room felt so open that even with two extra beds, it never felt cramped. The terrace leading from the Room to the open-air bath had a table and chairs, so we could cool off while enjoying a drink. The open-air bath allowed us to adjust the temperature ourselves, which was great because each family member could set it to their preferred temperature. The Room was very comfortable, conversation flowed easily, and we were able to relax so much that we ended up drinking a little too much. Both dinner and breakfast were served in private rooms, so we could take our time. The portions were just right for us since we don’t eat large meals. The dinner menu was playful—we had fun guessing what would come next as a family—and the dishes were creative and refreshing. They also seem especially proud of their various original blended herbal teas. All of them were easy to drink and delicious, so I highly recommend them. Breakfast was Japanese-style: ochazuke with a wide variety of toppings (highly recommended), among other items. One small disappointment was that the rolled omelet was sweet—though that’s simply our personal preference. As Kansai locals, we’re not used to sweet omelets, so it really made us feel like “Ah, we’re in Kanto” (laugh). We had confirmed in advance that it is not barrier-free, so we came prepared to some extent, but going up and down stairs was still a bit tough. It has become one of my goals to build up my stamina and strength before our next visit; however, I would at least like handrails added for the open-air bath. Also, thank you very much for taking us all the way to the Lalique Museum on our way back. We were surprised that each of our four admission tickets had a different design! For those visiting as a group, I think that could be another fun highlight. Our Hotel stay was truly relaxing and refreshing—we enjoyed an indulgent and wonderful time. We believe this was thanks to all of your staff. The teamwork was excellent; your hospitality struck the perfect balance—attentive without being intrusive—and we really appreciated how considerate you were toward us throughout our stay. After staying here, we felt this is a Hotel that values not only its guests but also its staff. Thank you very much for everything during our stay. It became a truly memorable family trip. We would love to visit again.

    We stayed as a famil...

    We stayed as a family right after the New Year. As we were traveling with our elderly parents and it was our first trip of the year, we carefully considered many options before choosing this Accommodation. Among the many Accommodations in Hakone, we decided on this one because an acquaintance told us the meals were exceptionally delicious. We looked over the menu and, as a family, imagined what each dish would be like—our hearts lifted with anticipation for the beautiful and wonderful cuisine. The Room was spacious and clean, and our parents, who have become a bit unsteady on their feet, seemed able to relax comfortably and feel at ease. The Hotel staff assisted us with just the right amount of attentiveness. We thoroughly enjoyed both the Onsen and the meals, and it was a stay that truly made us feel this year will be a good one.

    The meals are especially outstanding.

    The French dinner is superb, and the Japanese breakfast is also very delicious. The service is attentive, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Onsen. However, there is no elevator, so climbing the stairs back to the room was tough after drinking too much.

    A relaxing and leisurely accommodation

    The view was excellent, and we were able to relax while enjoying the scenery from the room and the open-air bath. The meal after a refreshing bath was also fantastic. Each dish had unique touches, and the staff provided tips on how to enjoy them for maximum flavor, making every bite truly delicious until the end. The portions were just right, so we didn’t feel overly full despite how tasty everything was. Since we opted for an early dinner time, even though my spouse and I usually eat lightly, we managed to finish off a late-night snack of kitsune udon with ease. Thank you for the wonderful meal! What impressed us most was the hospitality of all the staff members. Everyone greeted us with smiles and friendly manners, offering thoughtful words that conveyed their spirit of hospitality at key moments—this left us with great memories. Watching how seamlessly coordinated and efficient everyone at the restaurant worked together was also delightful. Two small points caught our attention: There were no slippers in our room’s toilet—is this standard? Personally, I prefer separate slippers specifically for use in toilets, so it stood out to me. For breakfast, while there were plenty of delicious side dishes to accompany rice, I felt it could have used a bit more variety in vegetables. Overall though, this accommodation provided an incredibly relaxing experience that left us very satisfied. We look forward to visiting again!

    A comfortable place you'll want to visit again.

    The stay was incredibly satisfying, with professional staff providing just the right balance of attentiveness and space. With a limited number of guest rooms, the atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and the view from the cozy room was lovely. The quality of the open-air hot spring was outstanding! Expectations were high for dinner at this point, but it turned out to be slightly disappointing. The French cuisine with Japanese influences seemed to lack a certain depth or clarity in flavor—perhaps best described as feeling somewhat unfocused. It might be worth considering a straightforward approach with classic French dishes instead. The evening ended on a high note at the bar, where conversations about Scotch and cigars made for an overall wonderful night. As this is a privacy-focused Hotel, I’ve chosen not to include any photos.

    It was an excellent stay.

    Excellent cuisine and service

    I visited during a quiet period after the autumn leaves season. The Room's open-air bath, the view from the Room, a stroll in the garden, the cuisine, and the hospitality were all excellent. Next time, I would love to stay at one of your affiliated Hotels in Kinugawa or Nikko.

    Enjoy an Extraordinary Experience

    The pick-up service at Gora Station was very pleasant, and the driver’s engaging conversation made us feel as if we were being transported to another world, heightening our expectations. Our stay did not disappoint. The hot springs, meals, service, and the quiet and relaxing Room... Everything was exceptional. Just like at Kinugawa Kanaya Hotel, every staff member here exuded both elegance and friendliness—truly outstanding.

    It was wonderful.

    This was our second time staying here after switching from our previous accommodation, and we are very satisfied. All the meals were excellent, and the service was impeccable. Additionally, we noticed that the other guests at the restaurant seemed to be of a good crowd. My wife and I discussed how having no troublesome guests likely allows the staff to provide attentive and stress-free service.

    We were seated at the table immediately to the right of the entrance for dinner. We are guests in the best Room, aren't we? We were asked if both of us dislike game meat. It seems our email communication was not conveyed properly—lack of coordination. The footsteps from the Room above were noisy. These small details were disappointing.

    Enjoyed a wonderful meal and relaxed in the soothing hot springs.

    It has been exactly 10 years since my last visit to Kinugawa Kanaya Hotel. I made the Reservation relatively close to the date due to a busy schedule. The large public bath in Kinugawa was excellent, and while I remember the food being wonderful but slightly heavy back then, this time we stayed in a Room with a semi-open-air bath (with adjustable water temperature), which was very pleasant. Dinner was a Japanese-French course meal with just the right portion size. The unique combination of ingredients was well-balanced, and my companion praised both dinner and breakfast highly. In multi-course meals, there is often at least one dish that feels less impressive, but this time every dish was outstanding. The drinks in the Room's refrigerator included craft beer and rare (unsweetened) sparkling water, showing thoughtful consideration. If there were more power outlets in the Room or perhaps brighter task lighting for reading or working (as our living room at home also uses indirect lighting), it would be even better. Since "seclusion" seems to be part of their concept, having high-quality speakers would also enhance the experience. Thank you for your hospitality! We even saw deer during checkout and appreciated receiving a belated birthday celebration that we hadn’t mentioned during our Reservation process. Thank you very much!

    Both the Onsen and cuisine are first-class.

    The private open-air bath was spacious and had excellent water quality, and both meals were exceptionally delicious. While it may be a matter of debate, providing yukata or indoor wear could be a nice addition (as long as it does not disrupt the restaurant's atmosphere).

    My Best Accommodation in Hakone

    I have stayed here several times, and the service is always exceptional. The level of service rivals that of a first-class Hotel, yet it remains friendly and approachable. The teamwork among the staff exudes warmth, making me wonder if they truly enjoy working together—it’s absolutely wonderful. As for the meals, every time brings new surprises thanks to the chef's incredible sense of creativity. Although breakfast features the same menu (fish), it’s so exquisite that I look forward to it every time. I’d love for more people to experience this delight! The care and thought put into each dish are remarkable—I’m impressed every single time. I plan to visit again next year and am already looking forward to it! Oh, by the way, the late-night soba has been replaced with kitsune udon. It was a delicious late-night meal with a refreshing hint of sudachi!

    A hidden retreat for adults, creating unforgettable birthday moments

    Stayed for my wife's birthday. The cuisine was truly exceptional, with each dish bringing surprise and happiness. Conversations with the floor staff were pleasant, and the wine pairing was perfect—deeply impressed by its harmony with the dishes. Additionally, they surprised us with an unexpected birthday plate, which delighted my wife immensely. We are grateful for their heartwarming hospitality. The private open-air bath in our room provided a quiet and luxurious experience. The only regret is that the wine was so delicious I drank too much and missed out on enjoying a late-night snack (laughs). Next time, I'll pace myself better and look forward to a rematch!

    I stayed in both the Deluxe and Corner Superior accommodations. Both rooms can be described as simple modern; while the TV stand and furnishings didn’t exude luxury, they were not uncomfortable either. The meals were absolutely outstanding. Additionally, the bathroom in the Deluxe room was spacious and very relaxing (though the bathroom in the Corner Superior was too small...). The only request I have is to improve cleaning of the shower drains, as mentioned in my feedback form. I would love to visit again on a sunny day. Thank you for your hospitality!

    I traveled by train,...

    I traveled by train, so the Shuttle Service was very helpful. I was also greeted by wild deer. The Room and service were both very satisfying. Both dinner and breakfast featured thoughtfully crafted menus, and the chef's attention to detail made for a delightful and delicious dining experience. The service from all the Hotel staff was excellent as well. The Onsen in the Room provided a private space where I could relax and unwind at my own pace. Thank you very much.     It was the best Hotel!

    We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful Hotel that maintained Kanaya's tradition while offering a sense of privacy. We enjoyed soaking in the Owakudani hot spring in the private bath and had delicious French cuisine with a "Wa-Kei-Yo-San" concept at the main dining. We were deeply touched by the special anniversary plate prepared for us. From the Shuttle Service to impeccable hospitality, everything was first-class. We would love to visit again.     A tranquil setting

    The room with large windows offered a sense of openness and a beautiful view of the mountain where Hakone's Daimonji-yaki takes place. Dinner was French cuisine served in a calm restaurant, with each dish featuring delicious ingredients and sauces, complemented by elegant cutlery. Breakfast was a well-balanced selection of Japanese dishes, which were also delightful. The semi-open-air Onsen in the room had a comfortable temperature and provided a relaxing experience.     The best hospitality.

    I stayed at the accommodation with my elementary school-aged daughter. Although we were repeatedly apologized to for the lack of guidance upon arrival, we understood it was due to overlapping arrivals and were not bothered at all. I was deeply impressed by their sincere response. We stayed in a Japanese-style suite room. The spaciousness and atmosphere were very calming, and the open-air bath was especially fantastic. There was even a nap space next to the open-air bath, where I ended up dozing off—it really helped me recover from fatigue. The meals we had been looking forward to were paired wonderfully with wine and tasted absolutely delicious. It was a truly blissful time. My daughter also enjoyed her meal, chatting happily with the hotel staff while finishing everything on her plate. The late-night tea soba served in our room was so tasty that we couldn’t resist having seconds. The mattress provided an exceptional sleeping experience. Breakfast featured freshly cooked rice that was so delicious I went back for seconds twice! It made for another happy start to our day. This stay truly became a rejuvenating and perfect experience for us. We will definitely visit again!
