    The staff’s thoughtful hospitality is outstanding.

    If I had to sum it up, the outstanding hospitality of the staff is what stands out above all else. They kept the perfect distance—not too close, not too far—and were friendly while also showing thoughtful, courteous attention. On the day of my stay, I took part in a sports tournament in another area. The staff noticed this at check-in and we chatted briefly, and even during a busy checkout they remembered and spoke to me despite how hectic it was. During meals, they cleared empty dishes smoothly so I could enjoy my time comfortably, and even when passing in the hallways they never forgot to greet me with a polite nod. Thanks to their consideration, it was a wonderful stay. There were many international guests, and the atmosphere can be lively—depending on timing, it may be difficult to spend your time in complete quiet—but even so, the staff’s smiles made my stay truly enjoyable.

    This was the best Accommodation I’ve ever stayed at.

    We stayed to celebrate a relative’s birthday. At no extra charge, the Hotel prepared towel art and a message card in our Room, and at dinner they also provided a message plate (they kindly accommodated our request for a smaller portion). On top of that, the Hotel gifted us lounge invitation tickets. The matcha terrine(?) cake in the lounge was truly, truly delicious… I would love for it to be sold. We were able to enjoy a relaxed birthday celebration. Thank you so much. Every staff member was wonderful—attentive service and genuine hospitality that made us feel warmly welcomed. Meals: The steak at dinner was absolutely delicious. The salmon roe was served as a mini salmon roe bowl rather than an all-you-can-add option, which was a bit disappointing—but with prices rising, it can’t be helped (sadly). Everything else was also delicious and we were completely satisfied. Breakfast was very substantial as well; we somehow managed to eat even though we were still full from the night before (lol). One request: we would have appreciated having cold tea available. Baths: Both Onsens were clean and wonderful. It rained during our visit to Ukigumo-no-Yu so the view was completely white, but since there was a roof we could still enjoy it! In contrast, Kurusawa-no-Yu is fully outdoors, so I don’t think we could have used it if it had been raining. I’m glad it rained on the second day—we were able to fully enjoy both Onsens to our heart’s content. We also really appreciated that towels were provided in the bathing area. Room: Everywhere we looked was spotless and very well maintained. I have a house dust allergy and usually experience symptoms when staying at Hotels, but I had none here—not even once—which truly impressed me. Having both a desk and sofa meant we didn’t need to sit on the floor, which seemed especially appreciated by my relative who has knee and back issues—definitely a big plus for them. The firmness of both the bed and pillows was 100/100. This ended up being quite long, but honestly I’m still not done praising how satisfied we were. We’re not usually the type to return again and again, but I promised myself we will definitely stay here again!! That’s how wonderful it was. We look forward to visiting again—thank you sincerely for everything.

    Family Trip

    This time, I met up with my children who live in Aichi and Tokyo at the Hakone Open-Air Museum, and then we stayed at Ten-yu. We were completely satisfied with everything—from the staff’s hospitality to the meals, Onsen, and amenities. Soaking in the lovely footbath by the entrance while enjoying the beautiful scenery made our conversation flow with my children from Tokyo, whom I don’t get to see often. In particular, being able to listen to a live band performance with a welcome drink in hand made our whole family very happy.

    You’ll want to stay here again.

    This was our fifth stay, and we were completely satisfied in every way. The staff’s smiles were especially memorable. The entire property was very clean. This time we stayed with my daughter’s family (our second time together), and my grandchild was delighted with the complimentary ice cream. We especially love that it isn’t just the small ice bars you can find anywhere. As a surprise, my daughters let the staff know it was my husband’s and my birthday, and we truly appreciated the song and cake gift—thank you very much. We would definitely like to stay again next time.

    It was an excellent Hotel. I highly recommend this Accommodation!

    I made the Reservation on behalf of my parents. Below are my parents’ impressions. It was an outstanding Hotel! First, we were truly impressed by the warm and courteous welcome from the staff when the shuttle bus arrived. It was a trip for three—grandparents and an adult grandchild—and we were a bit concerned about everyone’s food preferences, but the wide variety and high quality of the buffet and drink bar left us all very satisfied. A top-floor Room!! We had great weather and a wonderful view, and there was also a massage chair, so we were able to relax in comfort. The Ukigumo-no-Yu bath was also excellent! We also enjoyed the welcome cookies, drinks, and Seventeen Ice. Everything was delicious. The staff’s attentive kindness made our stay even more satisfying—it truly became a perfect visit. We’re happy that our grandchild was so moved and said they want to stay again! They will surely return with friends. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

    A Wide Range of Services

    This was our first stay. We arrived just after check-in started, and several groups were waiting to check in. However, the staff were very attentive and spoke to each guest, so everyone seemed relaxed while waiting. My husband used the large public bath three times—after arrival, after dinner, and before breakfast the next morning—and said it was almost empty each time, perhaps depending on the time of day. The view and sense of openness were better on the 6th floor than on the 5th. I had been a bit concerned about the Room size (35 m²) and that dinner was a buffet, but the Room felt more spacious than expected. Also, perhaps because entry times were staggered in detail, there were few moments when the buffet area felt crowded; breakfast was actually busier. I also felt the food quality was high. From welcome drinks to ice cream from the vending machines, drinks with meals, use of facilities inside Yunessun, and live performances in the lobby, there were plenty of services included and it was a lot of fun. This kind of Accommodation may be especially popular these days.

    There were so many foreign guests that it was exhausting.

    I stayed here looking forward to relaxing in the Onsen and enjoying good food, but I was extremely uncomfortable with the poor manners of some foreign guests in the large public bath and at the buffet. At the dinner buffet, even though I have slight difficulty walking, I was shown to a semi-private room far from the food, which made it very hard for me to go and get dishes. It really felt like this Accommodation prioritizes foreign guests. From now on, I will choose Accommodations where I won’t have any contact with foreign guests. This was my first bad choice of Accommodation on IKYU.

    I stayed in the Hakone Yuzan Special Room.

    We decided to take our grandchild—who had never been to Yunessun—to Yunessun. For our son and his wife, we chose the slightly more luxurious Hotel Ten-yu. Since we were staying anyway, we wanted a spacious, beautiful Room, so we made a Reservation for a special suite. There are six special suites and you don’t know which one you’ll get, so we were excited (and nervous) until the day of arrival. Choosing the special suite was absolutely the right decision. The Room was spacious and lovely, the chairs were extremely comfortable, and it was easy to truly relax. The open-air bath in the Room was wonderful—I wanted to use it again and again. What felt especially lucky was that getting from Ten-yu’s special suite to Yunessun was very convenient. The buffet meals were excellent: spiny lobster, abalone, salmon roe, and sushi were surprisingly fresh with great-quality toppings. Breakfast also included crab, omelets, and oden. My top recommendation is the French toast—everything tasted delicious—and you can enjoy plenty of beer and wine as well. Every staff member in the Hotel provided outstanding service. It has become one of my favorite Hotels. With my IKYU Diamond Member benefits, I was able to use the lounge and received a one-hour late checkout. These perks truly made me happy.

    We enjoyed a teppany...

    We enjoyed a teppanyaki dinner and were very satisfied with the ingredients, service, and taste. The breakfast buffet was also high quality with a wide variety of dishes, making it enjoyable to see and eat. This was our second stay, and we were able to use the club lounge as a repeat guest benefit, which was great as well! Even though I don’t drink alcohol, I was happy to have coffee and delicious sweets. The Onsen was just as relaxing as last time. We look forward to our next visit.

    We stayed here to celebrate my wife’s birthday.

    We stayed here for my wife’s birthday. When I made the Reservation on IKYU, I simply noted, “It’s my wife’s birthday,” and yet the hospitality was outstanding. The club lounge service was excellent, and when we entered our Room, there was a celebratory towel swan arrangement on the bed. What surprised us most was dinner: we were shown to a private room at the buffet, and the staff sang “Happy Birthday” and even presented us with a cake—an unforgettable memory. Next time, we’ll come back during the autumn foliage season.

    Family Trip

    This was our first time visiting on a family trip. My stepdaughter’s birthday was two days later, and when we requested a birthday plate, five staff members played “Happy Birthday” for her. We didn’t expect live music, so it was a wonderful surprise and a great memory. The view from the open-air bath was also excellent, and we’d love to come again.

    Family trip during Golden Week

    We visited during Golden Week with a family of six. As one of us was pregnant, we informed the Hotel in advance, and they kindly prepared a pregnancy pillow and caffeine-free tea in our Room. They also arranged for us to be on the floor that would have the women’s bath the next day, which was very helpful. The buffet venue was small, and when many people arrived at once it could be hard to move around, but there was a wide variety of food and everything was delicious. The complimentary drinks and ice cream service was also great! As an IKYU Diamond member benefit, we were able to use the bar as well, and we enjoyed a relaxing time there too. The cakes and macarons were delicious. Since it was Golden Week and the Hotel is connected to Yunessun, we expected it might be noisy with lots of children, but depending on the time of day the large public bath felt almost private, so we were able to relax without any concerns. Thank you very much.

    Highly satisfying for the whole family

    We chose this place after searching around to fulfill our family’s wish to stay in Hakone, and it was absolutely the right choice! Right after arrival, we had ice cream and enjoyed the welcome sparkling wine while soaking our feet in the footbath. Before we knew it, it was time for dinner—shrimp, sushi, and tempura galore. Once we were full, we moved on to the open-air bath—everything was taken care of. Since we have a 4-year-old daughter, one key point for us was an Accommodation where kids can enjoy tasty dinner and breakfast as well—and this place scored full marks. Everything was delicious, but what especially stayed with me was the banana juice at breakfast—something you don’t often see at other places, and it was really good. We booked a Room with a private open-air bath, and being able to soak anytime in piping-hot Onsen water at the push of a button felt like paradise. And then finishing off with the massage chair—it’s truly the perfect combo. It also stood out that my wife—who usually has fairly standard comments about where we stay—was unusually delighted (in a good way) and kept saying how happy she was. We’ll be back in winter!

    The food was excelle...

    The food was excellent. A wide variety of dishes were available buffet-style, and each one was carefully prepared. The all-you-can-drink alcohol option was also great. The staff were very friendly and pleasant as well.

    I stayed here to celebrate my retirement.

    Although I had informed you in advance that this stay was to celebrate my retirement and that I would be using a wheelchair, from arrival to check-out we felt the attentive care of the staff—hard to believe for such a large Hotel. The towel art, the surprise cake during our meal, and the club lounge were all truly impressive. I have stayed at various Hotels with buffet-style dining, but this was the most luxurious and delicious buffet I have ever had. The roast beef and tempura were especially delicious, though my husband prefers well-done meat and said it would have been nice if there had been steak or teppanyaki. The strawberries were a bit too tart, which was disappointing; I think condensed milk or something similar would have been nice. Being able to make our own seafood rice bowls was wonderfully lavish, but if I may ask for more, having broth available to turn it into dashi chazuke would have made it even more enjoyable. The open-air bath in our Room required us to fill it ourselves, and perhaps because other Rooms were using hot water at the same time, the water temperature was so low it felt cold—which was disappointing; however, we thoroughly enjoyed being able to use the Hotel baths as well as Yunessun and Mori-no-Yu. You also kindly guided us regarding the passageway connection to Yunessun, allowing us to use it comfortably by wheelchair without stress. The all-you-can-eat “17 Ice” was very popular with our family—we kept going back for more even while saying we were full. In just one night and two days, we fully enjoyed meals, Onsen, leisure activities, and more—it was a highly satisfying trip. Thank you very much.

    A Luxurious Weekend Getaway

    We stayed with my elderly parent and a child with a physical disability, and each of us was able to enjoy a blissful, out-of-the-ordinary time. Yunessun is not very accessible, so getting around was difficult for our child, but being able to use it even before check-in is a big plus for families. The sunrise viewed from the infinity Onsen and the surrounding nature were incredibly beautiful and truly moving. There were many Western travelers, which also made it feel like staying at an overseas Hotel.

    I visited last year and it was really great.

    We visited last year and had a wonderful stay, and my wife loved it too, so we came back. The staff were kind, the room was clean, and there was plenty of food and it tasted good overall, but there were a few things that concerned us. I was disappointed that the “17 Ice” had a time limit. I don’t remember that being the case last time. At the dinner buffet, last time there were thick steak slices available, but this time there was only thinly sliced roast beef—something you can eat anywhere. On top of that, before I knew it the chef had cleared it away so I couldn’t get seconds. There was no crab at dinner. There was crab at breakfast, but it lacked flavor and was dry; honestly, it would have been better not to have it at all. Last time the crab meat was full and juicy and very delicious. The beef stew also didn’t feel properly simmered—it tasted like soft meat quickly heated up with a ready-made sauce poured over it. If you’re going to serve beef stew, I’d like to see something like cheek meat marinated overnight and simmered until tender enough to fall apart. The tempura seemed fried in batches so it had gone cold and wasn’t tasty at all, and some of the sushi toppings (like horse mackerel) looked dried out. I understand ingredient costs are rising across the board, but if maintaining quality is difficult, I think raising prices would be better than lowering quality or doing sloppy work—that’s unacceptable. Last time we definitely wanted to come again; this time we’re not sure about returning... In Gora there are places with rooms as good as (or better than) Ten-yu’s as well, so if you can’t maintain food quality, I think it will be tough. Right now many Western guests are visiting, but if high oil prices continue and foreign visitors decrease in the future, you’ll need support from Japanese guests too. Overall, there were simply too many disappointing points this time.

    Both the Onsen and the meals were high quality.

    The welcome service offered five kinds of tea and herbal tea, which was a lovely touch. The large public bath was spacious, and it was great to enjoy two different open-air baths on alternating days. The top-floor room was functional and included a raised seating area. Dinner buffet was incredibly lavish, with spiny lobster, roast beef, and sushi, plus a corner where you could make your own tacos. Service timing was well managed so everything could be enjoyed fresh; the tempura was crispy and delicious straight from the fryer. We had a memorable night in Hakone.

    It’s very good for a casual accommodation, but…

    I was expecting a higher-grade Accommodation for the price. If it were half the price, I would be very satisfied. <Points for improvement> - The Room is small. - The entrance is narrow. It’s difficult to enter with a wheelchair, and unless it’s folded, the door won’t close. - The private open-air bath area attached to the Room is far too small and too exposed from inside the Room, so it’s not usable for families. - There are no drinks in the refrigerator (I don’t mind paying—I’d like to have a beer in the Room. Buying from a vending machine or convenience store is a hassle). (It made me wonder if housekeeping might be understaffed.) - The refrigerator doesn’t turn on unless you switch it on. I put water in but noticed it wasn’t cold. It felt like an APA hotel. - It was described as a “premium buffet,” but the space is small and crowded. <Good points> - The open-air bath on the 6th floor is an infinity-style bath with spectacular views, spacious and excellent. The bath on the 5th floor was average. - Overall, everything feels very clean. - The food is good for a buffet.

    We were able to relax and enjoy the Onsen at a leisurely pace. We were looking for a Hotel with a buffet because our child loves it, and the wide variety of dishes was more than enough for adults to enjoy as well. We would like to stay here again when we visit Hakone.

    Hakone-Style City Hotel

    My family of four stayed for two nights over the February long weekend. The hilltop location with panoramic views over Kowakudani is excellent, and the open, airy design of spaces like the entrance terrace and lobby is very well done. The standard Room is on the small side at 35 m², but the low-profile furnishings naturally draw your eye to the scenery outside, so it doesn’t feel cramped. That said, while you can create a changing area with blinds around the open-air bath on the balcony, there’s no washing area, which makes it less convenient to use. Inside the Accommodation, there are thoughtful touches on the entrance level—free drinks within easy reach, a coffee vending machine, and even Yunessun admission tickets—so guests don’t have to request things each time. It’s relaxed and easy. However, due to the building layout, the front desk is on a mid-level floor; guest Rooms and the large public bath are split above and below; and you access the bar lounge and Yunessun from the lowest level. It’s not intuitive to remember, and I imagine it could be quite challenging for older guests. Judging by what we saw—mostly families who weren’t elderly and healthy-looking international travelers—this is something worth keeping in mind when considering a stay. We chose buffet dining for both breakfast and dinner, and were satisfied across all dishes—it didn’t feel like anything was done halfway. The small side dishes were also well considered, and I’d especially recommend it to anyone who cares about good-quality seafood. What stood out most was how consistently high-quality the staff were—both Japanese and international team members. Many were young, but everyone from reception to Room attendants was polite without being overly formal. It felt reminiscent of Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo’s style of hospitality in a very positive way. In short: Ten-yu is a city Hotel in Hakone style. Before coming I was concerned that Reviews seemed divided, but I suspect some lower ratings came from guests expecting a traditional Hakone Onsen Ryokan experience—and therefore judging service levels more harshly. It’s true that you won’t get full Ryokan-style attentive service where everything is done for you. We also had some administrative slip-ups—for example one of our two room key cards didn’t work at first, and luggage we were told would be delivered to our Room while we went to Yunessun still hadn’t arrived when we returned—but I took these as issues that can happen at Hotels. The appeal of this Hotel isn’t Ryokan-like hospitality; it’s more about enjoying its location and Facility at your own pace—the freedom of how much you choose to make of your stay. If that matches what you’re looking for, I think you’ll be very satisfied here.

    The open-air bath was especially wonderful, making for a truly fulfilling stay!

    My wife and I visited this Ryokan for a relaxing staycation. What I especially loved were the open-air baths in the two bathhouses. At Ukigumo-no-Yu, the view of the sky and surrounding mountains from the hilltop was breathtaking and wonderfully open. At Kurusawa-no-Yu, there is a waterfall right in front of you, which felt truly soothing in nature. I also noticed there were many international staff members, and they welcomed us even before we entered the Ryokan—taking photos for us and guiding us carefully from reception to our Room. Their hospitality was outstanding. Our Room also had a beautiful view from the window, and although we didn’t use it this time, we thought the in-room open-air bath looked lovely as well. For dining, we had a teppanyaki course dinner and a buffet breakfast; both were delicious. The teppanyaki dinner was especially enjoyable thanks to the great atmosphere and attentive service from the chef and staff. Lastly, my wife was pregnant during our stay, and we truly appreciated that they prepared a pregnancy pillow in our Room and checked menu items with us before serving while being mindful of doneness preferences. Thanks to their care, we had a wonderful and very satisfying stay.

    On your wedding anniversary

    We stay here every year for our anniversaries, and this time we visited on the day we registered our marriage. The Room, meals, and bath were all wonderful, and we had a truly lovely time. They also helped us celebrate, and it’s a place we definitely want to visit again!

    An Accommodation for a Wonderful Holiday in Hakone

    This Accommodation is easy to access, with a free shuttle bus and public bus services available. With great views, you can see the Hakone mountains from both the Room and the bath, and in the open-air bath you can also enjoy sights such as a waterfall—making it a wonderful way to fully experience Hakone’s Onsen. The Room was clean and spacious, allowing us to relax comfortably. There were also complimentary drinks, snacks, and ice cream in the lobby, lounge, and even at Yunessun. The lounge also offered savory items, and best of all, dinner was an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring spiny lobster, abalone, eel, sushi, and more—so we had an enjoyable time all day long. Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of high-quality options. We were very satisfied with our holiday thanks to local Hakone specialties and especially delicious bread. We would definitely like to stay here again when visiting Hakone.

    We were very satisfied.

    I visited with my 16-month-old grandchild and my daughter, who was 8 months pregnant. I had some worries, but the Onsen was wonderful and we were very satisfied. My grandchild was thrilled in the large public bath! They’ve always loved baths, but I was surprised at how happy they were. Since they’re still in diapers, they didn’t soak in the water, but even just pouring warm water over them made them happy. It’s a large Facility with 140 rooms, yet it was very quiet. The Onsen was not crowded at all, and we could truly relax. Dinner was teppanyaki at Kihinkan. I was a little worried about dining with a small child, but it turned out to be fine. The meat was excellent, and the spiny lobster was luxurious—an extremely satisfying meal! The breakfast buffet was also incredibly delicious. The other guests were pleasant as well, so we were able to spend our time calmly. Of course, the staff were wonderful too! We also enjoyed the complimentary ice cream! My grandchild came down with a bit of gastroenteritis at night and vomited on the futon. I am very sorry for the trouble caused. There were many more wonderful things, but I can’t write them all here. In any case: a fantastic Onsen—highly satisfying!!
