    Reduced Customer Service Quality

    I stayed here four years ago to celebrate my parents’ birthdays, but I felt the staff service has declined since then. As it was the last weekend of summer vacation, there were many families and international guests, and I felt there was less attentive, personalized care. The Room blinds were dirty, and there was hair on the floor. Dinner was teppanyaki as we had chosen, so it met our expectations and was delicious. Next time, I will choose a different Ryokan.

    The meals offered a wide variety, but the taste was average. Having an Onsen in the guest room and being able to use it anytime was excellent. The service was good overall, though a few staff members were somewhat inattentive. Since the Accommodation cost is quite high, it felt like this level of quality is to be expected for the price.

    The Best Summer Vacation

    This was our second stay to visit Yunessun. The Room was cleaner than last time, and the meals and baths were amazing!! We really enjoyed being well taken care of. Lantern Night was fun, but it was a bit tough having to get to Kowakien on foot or by shuttle bus with kids.

    It was wonderful!!

    Everything was wonderful. During the post-check-in tour and explanation of the facilities, we mentioned in conversation with the staff member that our child’s age is the same as the Hotel’s age, and that their birthday was coming up in a few days. Toward the end of dinner, a surprise birthday cake was brought out. At first we didn’t understand what was happening and were shocked, but we believe it was thanks to that staff member’s thoughtful gesture. Our whole family was truly happy. Our child’s eyes were sparkling!! We will definitely come again.

    Thank you as always!

    The Okinawa Fair and the tuna carving show were amazing! This was our second visit during summer vacation, and it was so delicious that we’d love for you to hold it again next year. The open-air bath in the Room was also very comfortable, and no matter how many times we visit in a year, we never get tired of it. The warm smiles and attentive hospitality from the proprietress and all the staff are so comforting and relaxing that every time we come, we find ourselves wanting to return again soon. We’ll be back before the end of the year—thank you very much.

    We had a wonderful stay!

    This was my first time in Hakone, and it turned into a truly fulfilling stay! From the phone call to Check Reservation, to the warm welcome at the entrance after getting off the shuttle bus, the check-in service, and the friendly greetings whenever we passed by—everyone on staff made us feel genuinely cared for. The thoughtful touches were amazing too: the basket in our Room, a small waterproof pouch, and drinks and ice cream in the lobby—everything showed incredible attention to detail. The Room, hallways, dining area, bath area, and lobby were all spotless and beautifully maintained, with a wonderful sense of openness. The open-air Onsen on the 5th floor was exceptional—the Onsen water overflowing all the way to the stairs, and soaking while watching a waterfall cascade from above in an Onsen surrounded by trees was unforgettable. My husband was also deeply moved by bathing while watching the sunrise from the 6th-floor open-air Onsen. And the food—there was just so much every day that we couldn’t possibly finish it all (and couldn’t choose what to eat first!). It didn’t feel like frozen or mass-produced food at all; even though it was a buffet-style meal plan, everything felt carefully prepared and abundant. There were more drinks than we could possibly try—one surprise after another. We had never seen anything like it. We had such a wonderful time in Hakone. Thank you very much! If I had to be picky: I’d be happier if the shampoo and amenities in the large public bath were one level higher. Also, because there’s only downlighting at the dresser it’s hard to do makeup—and there isn’t a mirror elsewhere in the guest Room. There’s also no hairbrush provided in-room, and no deodorizing spray in the toilet. The amenities felt slightly disappointing. And I’d love to see more Chinese dishes added to meals as well. These are all minor points that only stood out because everything else was excellent.

    This Hotel offers a high level of guest satisfaction.

    It had been a long time since I last stayed at the Grand Hotel. Among the family-type Hotels I have stayed at in the past, this is one of the best. The staff were excellent, and the buffet meals were very satisfying. There are so many services that even a 20-hour stay isn’t enough to fully enjoy the Hotel. The open-air bath at “Gobo Falls” was beautiful and truly impressive. However, there is one issue: the Room is small. I used a top-floor Room (35 m²) with a massage chair, but there was no space to relax on a sofa. The sofa is up in the loft and faces toward a distant window. At night it turns into an extra bed, so there is no sofa to sit on in the evening. The bed also does not face the TV, so I couldn’t relax and watch a movie after dinner.

    Highly satisfied

    The Facility and meals were excellent, but above all, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding. It didn’t bother me, but there were many families with children, so if that’s not your preference, you may want to consider the timing of your stay.

    The whole family was very satisfied.

    We stayed as a family of three with our 3-year-old. Honestly, this was the most satisfying Accommodation we’ve stayed at in a long time. Our child had an absolute blast at Yunessun, which has free admission, and afterward we enjoyed the open-air bath in our Room while our child happily spent ages in the cradle on the balcony. The buffet was incredibly lavish—steak, seafood, Okinawan dishes, and so much more, all delicious. We were also surprised by how many kinds of alcohol were available. Breakfast was just as luxurious, with crab and salmon roe from the morning, plus Eggs Benedict and more. On top of that: unlimited ice cream, and unlimited drinks and light snacks at the bar. The garden view was outstanding too. There’s nothing to fault—we’d love to come back again as soon as next month.

    This is a wonderful accommodation.

    This was our third stay, and it’s a Hotel that makes us want to come back again next year. We traveled with our grandchild, so our main destination was Yunessun. It’s great that admission is free on both the day of check-in and the following day. In particular, being able to go from the morning on the second day meant it wasn’t crowded and was very comfortable. There were also kids’ events, which we enjoyed. What we notice every time is how wonderful the staff’s hospitality is. The reception and restaurant teams are all highly professional. This isn’t directly related to hospitality, but it would be even better if there were less waiting time at check-in and when being seated for meals. The buffet also has an excellent reputation with our family, and both the large public bath and the in-room open-air bath with free-flowing hot spring water are outstanding. We also appreciated that it has been free-flow drinks since this year. We were satisfied with everything—activities, meals, Onsen, and staff. If we have the chance, we would love to visit again. Thank you for helping us create such wonderful memories.

    The ingredients are especially good—freshly butchered tuna is outstanding!

    - Both dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of options with high-quality ingredients. There was also a great selection of alcoholic drinks, and we were very satisfied. It’s a shame we couldn’t try everything, but we were completely full. - The Room, bath, and front lobby—everything—felt comfortable and pleasant. - The free Glico ice cream with the dedicated coin was perfect on an extremely hot day! - We also appreciated that there weren’t many noisy children running around. - One disappointment: the razor quality wasn’t great, and I ended up with some bleeding for the first time in a while. Next time, I’ll be sure to bring my own razor.

    The buffet meals are excellent!

    We stayed with my elderly parents, my wife, and my daughter—five of us in two Rooms. Our Rooms were on the top (9th) floor, each with a private open-air Onsen bath, and there was also an excellent massage chair in the Room. There are two large public baths, and they alternate between men and women each day, so even with a one-night stay we were able to enjoy both Onsens with different atmospheres. The bath on the 6th floor had an infinity-like feel, while the one on the 5th floor was soothing thanks to the look and sound of a waterfall. The dining was truly outstanding. It’s buffet-style so you can choose what you like, but there’s a wide selection and every dish is high quality—the best buffet restaurant we’ve experienced. The beef steak, likely the main dish, was so tender it could be cut easily just by chewing, and the grilled shrimp—another highlight—was finished right in front of us with a burner for an extra touch of luxury. My elderly parents had recently been saying they felt anxious about traveling due to their stamina, but even on our way home from Ten-yu they were already saying, “Let’s stay again next year.” It quickly became their favorite Hotel! If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate—make a Reservation and enjoy an amazing experience.

    About Cleaning

    The Room amenity toothbrush had been left used, so I asked the front desk for a new one. Also, the trash in the smoking Room was not cleared away for two days. As a result, I became concerned about cleanliness overall and my satisfaction decreased. I really like Ten-yu’s large public bath and have stayed before, but this time was a bit disappointing.

    We stayed here for a trip with family who had returned from overseas. The pool was extremely crowded, which was disappointing, but the Hotel was very comfortable and my family enjoyed it. It’s a wonderful Hotel that I can recommend to friends. We will stay again.

    I stayed for two nights in June. Compared with my stay in January, it was nice that drinks such as alcohol are now available as a free-flow option, but the buffet selection was a bit disappointing. The table I was shown to was the same very small one for dinner and breakfast on the first night, and again for dinner on the second night. When I asked the staff if it would be the same table every time, it was changed at breakfast, but if there are better and worse seats, I would like them to rotate them each time. The Room is Japanese-style. Last time there were chairs and a table, so I expected the same setup, but this time there were only floor cushions and a low table, which made my legs hurt. I asked to change Rooms, but was told it wasn’t possible because they were fully booked. I would like this to be clearly indicated at the time of Reservation.

    Buffet in Hakone

    This was my first time staying at a buffet-style Accommodation in Hakone. The spiny lobster, nigiri sushi, and steak were all delicious—I went back for seconds many times. I loved the live kitchen because you can enjoy freshly made dishes! The desserts felt like they could use a bit more effort, though. The cakes and macarons I had in the lounge seemed higher quality. (The lounge had a calm atmosphere and was really nice!!) The Onsen also had plenty of washing stations, and the baths were spacious, so it never felt crowded and I could relax and enjoy it. I was also satisfied because I could use the in-room Onsen whenever I wanted. Above all, what stood out most was how many international guests there were.

    Hotel next to Kowakien

    Perhaps because travel from China was restricted, most guests were from Europe and the U.S. Breakfast offered a wide variety of breads, plus French toast, bread pudding, pancakes, and more fruit than hotels in Taipei—and there was even crab in the morning. Dinner was also good: the sushi was delicious, and while the steak wasn’t very thick, it was easy to eat. They were holding an Okinawa fair; I’m not sure the fish cake for the soba was quite right, but the soup was light and tasty. The sata andagi were too large for a buffet—I would have preferred smaller ones. Overall, I was satisfied. I didn’t visit Yunessun’s shop, but I wish the Hotel shop had a better selection of souvenir sweets.\nThis Accommodation is one I’d like to visit again and again—if only it weren’t for Hakone’s steep hills that feel tougher than going to Karuizawa.

    I had a pleasant stay.

    The meals, including the teppanyaki, and the in-house Facilities were exactly as expected. We traveled with our 2-year-old grandchild, and the staff were kinder than at any Accommodation we have stayed at before. Above all, just as many people mention in their Reviews, every member of staff was polite and helped make our stay truly comfortable. (In these times when staffing shortages are often discussed, I was impressed that you have so many employees on hand and provide thorough training.) Just one point: although the open-air bath in the Room was wonderful, there is no washing area, so the flow to the shower facilities is not very convenient. The women in our group tended to avoid using it for that reason. It might be worth considering in the future. Everyone says they would like to come again. Thank you very much.

    As expected from Fujita Kanko.

    As expected from Fujita Kanko, the service was excellent. The hotel felt luxurious, and the bed was comfortable—I slept very well. I had high expectations after watching videos on YouTube, but the spiny lobster and abalone weren’t as impressive as I’d hoped. The crab at breakfast was also average. Overall, many of the dishes tasted a bit too salty. The hotel curry was delicious. There was a great variety of desserts, though there didn’t seem to be many Japanese sweets. Unlimited access to Yunessun is fantastic for families with children—especially since you can have all-you-can-eat Seventeen Ice Cream, which kids will love. There were quite a lot of international guests as well. I’d like to visit again—the lounge is great.

    Birthday Trip

    My spouse and I love traveling and take a trip once a month. This time, we stayed at Hotel Kowakien Ten-yu for the first time. It was a hotel we had wanted to visit for a long time, and we were truly impressed. First of all, both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the buffet selection was outstanding. Above all, what made our stay exceptional was how each staff member spoke to us with such care—we have stayed at many hotels, but we believe they are the best. We definitely plan to return.

    A Heavenly Accommodation

    The staff provided exceptionally attentive service, and both the breakfast and dinner buffets were lavish and delicious. The Onsen was spacious, the facilities were clean, and the stay was very comfortable. I would like to stay here again.

    Very satisfied with the hospitality service.

    This was a four-generation trip with three women and a 2-year-old little boy. After checking out and spending time at Yunessun, there was no shuttle bus at that time, so we asked the front desk to arrange a taxi to Gora Station, but none were available. The Hotel kindly offered a special Shuttle Service right away. In addition, since cars cannot stop in front of the station, the female driver even carried our suitcases down the underground stairs all the way to the station entrance. With our little boy and my elderly mother traveling with us, her thoughtful help meant a lot. The Room was clean, and we were very satisfied with both the view from the open-air bath on the 6th floor and the meals. Access to Yunessun was also convenient via a dedicated passageway connecting directly there, so even in the rain we didn’t need an umbrella. This time we did sightseeing on the first day and checked in late, so next time I’d like to relax more and enjoy the open-air bath in our Room as well as spending time inside the Hotel.

    Absolutely the best—couldn’t be happier.

    I was reminded again that this Accommodation is well-balanced in every way and offers high satisfaction for guests of any age. It’s also fun that the large public baths for men and women switch between the day of arrival and the next morning. Depending on the season, having access to Yunessun makes it perfect for families with children. The bar lounge is easy to use, and adults will be very satisfied. And needless to say, the open-air bath in the Room is available anytime. Onsen minus: The water temperature in the outdoor bath was a bit low. Dining minus: The bread for the Eggs Benedict at breakfast was disappointing. I would have liked to upgrade the birthday plate prepared at dinner, even if it meant an additional charge. Still, next time I’d like to do a Multiple Night Stay.

    The staff’s thoughtful hospitality is outstanding.

    If I had to sum it up, the outstanding hospitality of the staff is what stands out above all else. They kept the perfect distance—not too close, not too far—and were friendly while also showing thoughtful, courteous attention. On the day of my stay, I took part in a sports tournament in another area. The staff noticed this at check-in and we chatted briefly, and even during a busy checkout they remembered and spoke to me despite how hectic it was. During meals, they cleared empty dishes smoothly so I could enjoy my time comfortably, and even when passing in the hallways they never forgot to greet me with a polite nod. Thanks to their consideration, it was a wonderful stay. There were many international guests, and the atmosphere can be lively—depending on timing, it may be difficult to spend your time in complete quiet—but even so, the staff’s smiles made my stay truly enjoyable.

    This was the best Accommodation I’ve ever stayed at.

    We stayed to celebrate a relative’s birthday. At no extra charge, the Hotel prepared towel art and a message card in our Room, and at dinner they also provided a message plate (they kindly accommodated our request for a smaller portion). On top of that, the Hotel gifted us lounge invitation tickets. The matcha terrine(?) cake in the lounge was truly, truly delicious… I would love for it to be sold. We were able to enjoy a relaxed birthday celebration. Thank you so much. Every staff member was wonderful—attentive service and genuine hospitality that made us feel warmly welcomed. Meals: The steak at dinner was absolutely delicious. The salmon roe was served as a mini salmon roe bowl rather than an all-you-can-add option, which was a bit disappointing—but with prices rising, it can’t be helped (sadly). Everything else was also delicious and we were completely satisfied. Breakfast was very substantial as well; we somehow managed to eat even though we were still full from the night before (lol). One request: we would have appreciated having cold tea available. Baths: Both Onsens were clean and wonderful. It rained during our visit to Ukigumo-no-Yu so the view was completely white, but since there was a roof we could still enjoy it! In contrast, Kurusawa-no-Yu is fully outdoors, so I don’t think we could have used it if it had been raining. I’m glad it rained on the second day—we were able to fully enjoy both Onsens to our heart’s content. We also really appreciated that towels were provided in the bathing area. Room: Everywhere we looked was spotless and very well maintained. I have a house dust allergy and usually experience symptoms when staying at Hotels, but I had none here—not even once—which truly impressed me. Having both a desk and sofa meant we didn’t need to sit on the floor, which seemed especially appreciated by my relative who has knee and back issues—definitely a big plus for them. The firmness of both the bed and pillows was 100/100. This ended up being quite long, but honestly I’m still not done praising how satisfied we were. We’re not usually the type to return again and again, but I promised myself we will definitely stay here again!! That’s how wonderful it was. We look forward to visiting again—thank you sincerely for everything.
