    It exceeded expectat...

    It exceeded expectations. Even though I knew about the services like draft beer, coffee, and colorful yukata from reviews, experiencing them firsthand was highly satisfying. The stable hospitality of the accommodation staff made everything even more comfortable. Delivering newspapers to each room these days was also a significant plus point. Although the bath area wasn't very spacious, each onsen tub seemed to have its own unique character. It was my first time at Bessho Onsen, but it left such a good impression that I would love to visit again.

    It was a highly satisfying accommodation.

    I decided to stay here because I really wanted to enjoy the Onsen. The building has a traditional feel, but the renovated room was clean and lovely. The Onsen in the room had gentle sulfur-scented water with floating mineral deposits, and it seemed like fresh water was supplied as you got out of the tub. The large tub was especially clean and comfortable. The meals were served in the room, and the Japanese-style dinner was incredibly delicious. The flavors reflected the kind personality of the head chef who greeted us, leaving a lasting impression. The staff serving our meals were all kind and enjoyable to talk with. As this is an all-inclusive plan, not only is alcohol in your room's refrigerator included, but you can also choose your favorite drinks from a menu during dinner—perfect for those who love pairing good food with great drinks. Breakfast offers both Japanese and Western options: Japanese breakfast features simple yet flavorful dishes served in small bowls that pair perfectly with rice; Western breakfast includes freshly baked warm bread and crisp salads—all equally delightful. The cherry blossoms were at their peak during our stay, making this trip truly satisfying overall. Thank you very much!

    Clean facilities, spacious and comfortable Room, in-room bath with the scent of cypress and sulfur, perfectly portioned meals tailored to your taste—everything was excellent! Thank you very much!

    The staff in charge ...

    The staff in charge of dinner was polite and excellent. During breakfast, a different staff member did not bring the drink menu unless asked, and acted as if it was available in the Room when it wasn't. When I asked, "Do you have milk?" they replied, "Milk... I'll check for you. Do you need it?" which sounded bothersome and made me feel uncomfortable. I hope they can consider their wording a bit more carefully. After meals, the table remained dirty, so I cleaned it myself. It would be nice if they could clean up after breakfast as thoroughly as they did after dinner. All items like sausages, omelets, and bacon were cold; only the bread was warm and delicious. The public bath was clean and very pleasant to use.

    Feedback on Suite Stay

    Wonderful. Although it is rated as a 2-star hotel on Google Maps, the rating feels incorrect. Bessho Onsen was an onsen I always wanted to visit someday. There are three public onsens nearby, and you receive a free ticket to one of them. Oyutaki Onsen is also close by. The suite room came with a meal-inclusive plan, and meals were served in the room—I was very satisfied. The private bath in the room was also very comfortable. The staff provided excellent hospitality; I was delighted by the chef's greeting and explanation of the dishes during the meal. Both the quality and quantity of food were satisfying as well. The massage chairs, beer, and soft drink corner available for all guests free of charge were great too! This is an onsen ryokan I would love to visit again!

    It was excellent!

    I visited for my husband's birthday trip. The staff provided a very pleasant welcome from the entrance. The room was clean, the meals were delicious, and the Onsen in the room was fantastic. The public bath felt a bit small. However, I would definitely stay here again if I come nearby.

    Second visit to Tamaya Ryokan this year

    In January, I visited with a group of four men. We enjoyed some drinks, so I don't remember much about the meals, but the Ryokan staff's hospitality, the Room, and the Onsen left a strong impression on me. When I told my wife about it after returning home, she expressed interest as well, so this was our second visit. After checking in and soaking in the Onsen, it was time for dinner. The meals were delivered to us and were delicious until the very last bite. When it gets a bit warmer, I hope to visit again with my daughter as a family of three. Thank you for your hospitality.

    It was an accommodation with great satisfaction.

    This was our first visit to Bessho Onsen, and we chose this accommodation after reading reviews on IKYU. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The food was especially outstanding, and our whole family was delighted. They served local ingredients and traditional dishes, making both dinner and breakfast incredibly delicious. Meals were served in private rooms, allowing us to dine in a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff's detailed explanations about the local cuisine enhanced our experience even further. We learned that matsutake mushrooms are a specialty of this area. While we usually aim to stay at new accommodations each time, this is one place we would love to visit again!

    Drawn by the phrase "the oldest Onsen in Shinshu," I visited during a winter Onsen trip. Despite arriving earlier than the scheduled check-in time, I was warmly welcomed with smiles. Thank you so much. When heading out for a walk after 3 PM, the staff kindly checked if Anrakuji Temple and Kitamuki Kannon were still open and handed me a map with thoughtful advice. I truly appreciated this small gesture! The Onsen had slightly thick, hot water that was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed it both in the evening and early morning, leaving my body warm and relaxed. Being able to bathe anytime thanks to the free-flowing natural spring water was wonderful. The meals were delicious and served in just the right portions. While every dish was delightful, the miso soup especially warmed my heart with its comforting taste. Lastly, from the rejuvenating Onsen to the delicious food and cheerful greetings from all staff members whenever we crossed paths, this trip left me completely satisfied and energized. Thank you very much for everything! *Also, thank you for giving us protective chopsticks as we departed—I’ll start using them right away!*

    Great hot springs and delicious cuisine!

    The quality of the Onsen was as excellent as Hakuba Happo's, one of the best I've experienced. The meals were delicious, capturing the essence of the season and visually delightful. Although I didn't go for a walk due to the cold weather, I had a relaxing stay. The amenities, bedding quality, and complimentary draft beer service were all impressive.

    When staying alone, ...

    When staying alone, I usually focus on the Onsen and don't have high expectations for other services. However, everyone I encountered here was so kind that I regretted coming alone because I couldn't share the experience in the moment. Thanks to the staff, I felt at ease and had a truly enjoyable stay. The cheerful and kind person who served my meals seemed to genuinely care for every guest, which was heartwarming. It made me happy to see them again in the morning. On my departure day, when I met a staff member cleaning, they kindly stopped their work to exchange warm words with me—it was truly touching. The Onsen had an excellent water quality, and I soaked in it over and over again. The main bath is small but always filled with fresh water because of its size. The compact layout of the accommodation made it very convenient to move between my room and the bathhouse—extremely comfortable overall. For someone like me who struggles with mornings, the 11:00 AM checkout time was also a much-appreciated service. This Ryokan is highly recommended! I'll definitely visit again!

    A Ryokan with delicious cuisine and great value for money in Bessho Onsen.

    I visit Bessho Onsen almost every year as it is close to my home. This was my first stay here because of the high Review ratings on IKYU. The baths were quiet, almost like private use no matter when I went, and there was a complimentary draft beer service after bathing, along with delicious coffee. Both dinner and breakfast featured local ingredients, with the Shinshu Premium Beef being particularly delightful. Considering this quality at this price in an era of rising costs, I truly appreciated being an IKYU member.

    It was an accommodation with excellent overall quality.

    The room was simple in design but clean. Due to the age of the building, the placement of power outlets was not ideal for charging multiple smartphones, so having an extension cord in the room would have been helpful. The meals featured quality ingredients such as sashimi, wagyu beef, and salmon for breakfast. The portions were sufficient and carefully prepared; however, none of the dishes left a lasting impression. It would be nice to have a specialty dish that stands out. A slight disappointment was the bath—while the indoor bath was too hot and the open-air bath too lukewarm initially, after switching between men’s and women’s areas, the indoor bath became slightly hot while the open-air bath reached a comfortable temperature. Guests are provided with tickets to visit other Onsen baths in Bessho Onsen; however, Oyu right in front of us had an old facility with a local communal bath atmosphere—it didn’t feel worth skipping over this Ryokan's well-equipped baths to visit it. Overall, it felt like a good Ryokan offering reasonable prices and solid service throughout.

    An exceptional stay.

    Though not large, the natural sulfur Onsen with free-flowing spring water is exceptional! The suite with a Japanese-style Room and bed is very comfortable (the cypress bath in the Room smelled wonderful, but I missed the chance to use it because the Onsen was too amazing)! The meals are not only delicious but also beautifully presented with a great balance of small dishes and portions, served thoughtfully by attentive staff. Additionally, the beer server near the lobby is perfect for enjoying after a relaxing bath!

    Both the meals and the bath were extremely satisfying.

    The meals were beautifully presented and incredibly delicious Japanese cuisine. The dashi flavor was excellent, not too salty, and we enjoyed the rich clear soup and dobin-mushi. The Shinano beef was tender and juicy. We stayed for a multiple night stay of 2 nights, and they served different menus for both breakfast and dinner each day. I was very pleased with the effort put into such elaborate dishes. It was the local matsutake mushroom season, and we had the highest quality matsutake mushrooms we've ever tasted. The onsen water quality suited my preference, with perfectly adjusted temperatures. We enjoyed both the private room bath as well as two large public baths. The room was clean and well-maintained. This accommodation is the first I've stayed at that provided not only a hairdryer but also a hair iron! I wore an L-size samue outfit, which fit perfectly even though I am 155cm tall. I would love to stay here again!
