    Family Onsen Trip

    This was an Onsen trip with my mother and two daughters. Overall, both my mother and I were very satisfied. The price is not cheap, so it goes without saying that the Facility, amenities, and meals were excellent, but above all, the staff’s attentive service and thoughtful hospitality were outstanding. The bath in our Room was wonderful, and we also enjoyed the large public bath that switches between men and women in the morning and at night. The Onsen is sulfur-rich and warmed us up thoroughly. If we have the chance, this is an Accommodation we would definitely like to visit again.

    The Best One-Night Stay

    I felt this Ryokan is truly dedicated to its cuisine. The portions may feel small for some, but every dish was delicious. The highlights were the sashimi at dinner and the rolled omelet at breakfast (with miso?). Also, thanks to the private reservable bath and dining in a private room, you can relax and enjoy unhurried time with your companion. Although it’s not shown in the photos, there was a state-of-the-art massage chair next to the private bath that thoroughly worked my whole body and felt wonderful—if you stay here, I highly recommend trying it.

    The staff were very helpful and attentive.

    All of the staff were very pleasant. There was also a complimentary drinks area, which we enjoyed. The meals were especially delicious, and each dish was thoughtfully prepared with great attention to detail. The service staff’s explanations and hospitality were professional and excellent.

    Grandparents & Granddaughter Trip

    We stayed for one night and two days, as part of our annual summer trip with grandparents and granddaughter. From the moment we used the Shuttle Service, the thoughtful care for my grandparents (such as a step stool to help them get into the car) was outstanding. They even provided Shuttle Service to nearby sightseeing spots despite being busy, and we were truly moved by their hospitality. We enjoyed our meals in a private dining room at a relaxed pace, and both dinner and breakfast were filled with delicious local specialties that left us satisfied in both body and mind. Yukata and samue were also provided, the Onsen was wonderful, and on the way home my grandparents kept saying they want to come again. Next time, I hope we can stay during a long weekend with my grandparents and parents together. Thank you very much!

    The most up-and-coming Ryokan in Bessho Onsen

    Service: Excellent Meals: Excellent, great value for the price Facility/Equipment: There is a mini lounge and it is very good. The massage chair is also very good. Room/Amenities: We stayed in the lowest-tier Room, but it was still thoroughly cleaned. Most amenities are provided, and the in-room wear is samue-style, which was also nice. The most disappointing and unacceptable point this time was the bath, because it was not properly cleaned. In the morning at the Meigetsu bath, the drain was clogged. After a long time, a staff member came to clean it, but their attitude was poor and they seemed completely unmotivated. All other staff—both older and younger—were polite to guests, but this particular staff member only looked like they were doing their job carelessly. Is that why they only pretended to clean properly? The indoor bath had been too hot since the previous day; I informed staff about this as well, but there was no improvement at all..... Such a shame—what a waste.....

    Exceptional hospitality

    I truly realized what it means to be flawless. It was one moving moment after another from start to finish. Three friends and I planned a birthday trip. When we requested a cake in advance, the message on the whole cake plate said, “Happy birthday, everyone!”—such a thoughtful touch. Above all, every dish was delicious, and enjoying it at a relaxed pace in a private dining room made the meal even more satisfying. We were soothed by the free-flowing Onsen straight from the source, and we spent our time comfortably in the spotless facilities. The staff were all so warm and welcoming that I sincerely felt I would love to stay again.

    Bessho Onsen, a renowned hot-spring area. Among them, this is a long-established Ryokan. You can stay in a plan that includes an in-room Onsen bath. Of course, there is also an indoor bath, which is more spacious and lets you enjoy the Onsen even more. The men’s and women’s baths switch at night, so you can try both. It offers a richly satisfying experience. Meals are plentiful and include game dishes as well. With parking available, it is an easy-to-stay-at Ryokan.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    Although it is a historic Accommodation, it was thoroughly cleaned throughout and felt very comfortable. The staff provided excellent hospitality, and each dish was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. It was truly a wonderful Accommodation. I will visit again.

    Thank you for staying with us again this year.

    We have been staying here since last year to celebrate my father’s birthday. I sincerely appreciate the consistently attentive service every time we visit. The Room was new, very clean, and beautifully maintained. Both dinner and breakfast were generous in portion and absolutely delicious. For breakfast, you can choose between Japanese-style and Western-style options, which I look forward to each time. One small point I noticed was the sake menu. I’m very happy to be able to enjoy local sake, but I felt that a bit more variety or creativity in the selection would make it even more appealing. Thank you very much.

In the morning, she called from the Accommodation, excitedly saying, “Thank you for booking such a wonderful place.” She especially loved the comfortable service for guests and the high-quality meals with a carefully selected number of dishes.     I made a Reservation because the Reviews were positive. It was a wonderful Accommodation. The meals were also very delicious. I was able to enjoy my meal at a relaxed pace while chatting with the attendant who served us. The service from all the staff was excellent.

    A highly satisfying accommodation.

    It was our first time visiting Bessho Onsen and Tamaya Ryokan. Although it was likely fully booked over Golden Week, the property never felt crowded, and we were able to relax at a leisurely pace. We arrived with high expectations based on the Reviews, and this Accommodation delivered exactly as hoped—we were truly satisfied. Both the quantity and quality of the meals were outstanding, and we thoroughly enjoyed the flavors of spring in Nagano. Even though it’s in a mountainous area, the sashimi was excellent. The meat was also high quality; however, I’m not fond of fatty cuts like sirloin, so it would be helpful if guests could choose the cut. Breakfast was also delicious and thoughtfully prepared. One small disappointment: the solid fuel for the miso soup had already gone out, so if it could be lit after guests are seated, we might be able to enjoy it piping hot. We also appreciated that the Onsen is available even late at night—the water was wonderful. The beer after bathing was fantastic and really helped us unwind. We enjoyed being able to choose from various coffee options and relax with them in our Room. The bedding had good thickness and was very comfortable. The morning newspaper service is rare these days, so we were grateful to enjoy an elegant morning. All staff members were pleasant as well. Done—we will definitely return next time in autumn!

    To celebrate my mother’s birthday.

    We visited as a mother and daughter the day before my mother’s birthday. We upgraded our meal and each chose abalone butter sauté and a shark fin dish. We were amazed by how tender the meat was, the spiny lobster sashimi that felt like something you’d only get at a high-end sushi restaurant, and the tuna. Every dish, rich with dashi, was outstanding. The portions should have been quite filling, yet my 85-year-old mother ate more than I did (laugh). It was truly “Tamaya magic.” Thank you for the celebratory red rice and the complimentary fresh juice from the Accommodation. We also appreciated being seated at a private dining table with chairs, and the warm conversation from everyone working there during our meal—it made for such a heartfelt, happy time. The guidance on visiting different baths and nearby walks, the free coffee and drink station in the building, the massage chair floor, and all of your explanations were delivered so kindly—slowly and carefully. Just as in every Review, it was wonderful. Our Room had comfortable twin beds for great sleep, two types of pillows, and a spacious sofa—so relaxing that we could truly unwind even in the Room. It may have been my first stay where we didn’t turn on the TV at all. Between chatting together and enjoying bath-hopping around town, we had a very fulfilling holiday. My mother went to bathe five times and I went six (laugh)—a personal record! Even though her legs are usually sore. The entire building was spotlessly clean everywhere—very pleasant. I hope there will be more Rooms with Onsen water in them in the future. It would also be nice to have two face towels instead of one. There is also a spacious smoking room on the 5th floor; having it inside is convenient. We felt this Accommodation can be enjoyed by couples, friends, or families alike. Now we understand why so many guests return again and again. When driving becomes difficult for us someday, we found a Plan that allows us to stay using Hato Bus tours as well—so while we’re still able to travel, we hope to keep coming back many times to be healed by Tamaya Ryokan’s gentle waters with their wonderful sulfur scent. Sincere thanks to everyone who works here—and everyone involved—for making our stay so special.

    This is a wonderful accommodation!

    I wasn’t planning to go out this Golden Week, but I decided to take a one-night Onsen trip and found this Accommodation at the last minute. The atmosphere around the Accommodation was wonderful, the food was delicious, and the staff provided pleasant service. It’s an Accommodation I’d definitely like to visit again! However, I had trouble because the water pressure in the Room shower and at the washbasin faucet was weak. Still, everything else was excellent! I’ll be back again.

    It was a wonderful Accommodation with exceptional hospitality.

    We visited for our wedding anniversary trip. Above all, the hospitality was outstanding. From the moment we arrived, they took care of parking our car, and there were so many thoughtful touches throughout our stay. We were delighted with the commemorative flower arrangement, and the Onsen water was wonderfully silky—I soaked three times. We also used the complimentary voucher to visit the large public bath across the street. The meals were delicious as well, made with locally sourced ingredients. I can’t write it all here, but we truly enjoyed a blissful time. Thank you very much.

    Warm hospitality

    This was my first stay here. The staff’s hospitality was wonderful, and we enjoyed a delicious meal in a fully private dining room at a relaxed pace. There were also complimentary drinks in the lobby, such as draft beer and coffee. It was great value for money. Next time, I’d like to visit again with my daughters. Thank you very much.

    A Thoughtfully Attentive Accommodation

    This Accommodation is truly considerate, with thoughtful touches throughout from the guest’s perspective. The sense of distance with guests was just right, allowing us to spend comfortable time as a family. Everything felt clean, and the meals were delicious, highlighting the natural flavors of the ingredients. The baths were wonderful as well—the milky-white indoor bath and the outdoor bath where we could hear birdsong were especially relaxing.

    An accommodation that continues to evolve.

    Thank you very much for this stay. Onsen: The indoor bath felt a little hot (just my personal impression). Meals: I was a bit disappointed that the appetizers were the same as last year (the contents vary by season). The taste and portion size were very satisfying. Amenities: I didn’t feel anything was missing. The samue was excellent, and I was told I could change it freely, which was wonderful. Disposable slippers and two towels were also appreciated. Other: There is complimentary service for drinks such as beer and coffee, which is a great touch. There are also three massage chairs and a space where you can read books about Onsen. Free tickets for the large public bath in front of the Accommodation are also provided, though that may be the same at other places..... Staff: Everyone is very attentive. They always greet guests properly when they see them, and during meals they include conversation so guests don’t get bored—you can tell they are considerate. It was the same experienced room attendant as before; thank you very much. Overall: This is an Accommodation I recommend visiting in every season—especially spring and autumn, which I look forward to most. I hope to stay again in the future.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay in a Japanese-Western style Room with twin beds. I personally sleep better in a bed, so I really appreciated having a room with beds. The IKYU perk included wine, but when I told them at check-in that I don’t drink alcohol, they kindly gave me a voucher that could be used at the gift shop, which made me very happy. Above all, the free-flowing Onsen from the source was wonderful. Since the men’s and women’s baths switch during dinner time, we were able to enjoy soaking both before and after dinner. You may already be aware of this, but I think there is still room for improvement in the meals. That said, the number of dishes and portion sizes were more than sufficient, and the staff were very courteous—so we still enjoyed everything. The only thing that bothered me was that although I used a large yukata, after housekeeping on the second day a medium one was left in my room, so I had to go all the way to the lobby to get another. Also, the padded jacket worn over a yukata felt too flimsy for a Ryokan of this caliber; it would be great if this could be improved. I ended up wearing my own cardigan over my yukata instead.

    This is my second stay.

    I stayed in a large all-inclusive Room a few months ago and loved it, so I came back. I really appreciated the services, such as beer in the lobby, complimentary drinks in the refrigerator, and being able to freely choose from yukata and samue. This time I chose a smaller-portion Plan for the meals I couldn’t finish last time, and I was very satisfied—the ingredients were excellent for the price. Above all, all of the staff were pleasant and welcoming, which allowed me to relax again this time. I would definitely like to visit again.

    A Relaxing Stay at the Renowned Hot Springs of Bessho

    It was a highly satisfying stay. From the exterior and lighting to the front desk, lobby, and guest rooms, the Accommodation’s warm tones and Japanese ambiance created a calm, relaxing atmosphere for both body and mind. The cuisine was an elegant kaiseki course featuring local Shinshu ingredients, and it was delicious. Although we chose the standard Plan, the portions were more than sufficient. The baths use Bessho No. 4 hot spring source—known as “Sanada’s Hidden Bath”—and you’re enveloped in a sulfur scent even before entering the water. Because the large public bath is available late at night and early in the morning, I could soak in steaming water in the dim light and feel truly indulged. Some of the water-related Facility areas feel slightly dated, but there were no issues with use. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.

    It was exactly as expected.

    After seeing this Accommodation featured in a magazine, I decided to stay here, and it lived up to its reputation. The Room was stylish yet warm with natural wood, and I felt very relaxed. The meals were also delicious. The hospitality from all the Accommodation staff was wonderful. If I have the opportunity, I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    Better than expected.

    The Room is spacious and clean. The drink bar on the first floor is free, and you can use the Onsen until late at night. It was a wonderful experience!

    We’d love to stay here again.

    This was a welcoming Accommodation in the quiet Bessho Onsen area. The Facilities are not brand-new, but everything was well maintained and spotlessly clean, and we could feel thoughtful hospitality throughout. Because it is a small Accommodation, the bath and front desk never felt crowded, so we were able to relax in peace. We also appreciated the complimentary hospitality offerings, such as beer available from arrival until evening, coffee and other soft drinks, and free massage chairs that could be used at any time. They had baskets prepared for carrying items to the bath, and women could borrow yukata in cute patterns—everything you might think “it would be nice if they had this” was thoughtfully provided. The meals were all heartfelt dishes carefully prepared with local ingredients. The presentation was elegant and beautiful, and of course everything tasted wonderful—we ended up finishing every last bite. Breakfast also came with plenty of side dishes that went perfectly with rice, which we enjoyed along with locally grown Shioda Koshihikari. There is so much more I could say about Tamaya’s wonderful hospitality, but above all, we were truly touched by the warm kindness of every staff member. We would love to visit again.

    Relax and unwind.

    This time, I was looking for an Onsen Accommodation nearby where I could relax alone, and since Bessho Onsen is conveniently located and this was an Onsen Accommodation that welcomes solo travelers, I decided to stay here. On the first floor, there is an all-you-can-drink service with beer (available during specific hours), various types of coffee, and soft drinks with no time restrictions, which made me happy. (Though I couldn't drink that much...) The onsen had alternating times for men and women to use it, but both were very enjoyable. The bath with the yin-yang integration mark was fun. The Ryokan itself seems to have a long history but is very clean. The staff's natural attentiveness was also wonderful. The food was incredibly delicious and visually delightful as well. As expected, staying at an Onsen Accommodation is truly relaxing. Thank you very much!

    Almost there.

    The service was satisfactory. The room's facilities were generally good, but the water in the washbasin only trickled out, and it was disappointing that temperature adjustment was almost impossible, leaving only two options: cold water or hot water. Additionally, the cleaning of the bay window in the washbasin area was not thorough, with a lot of dust and debris present, which was unpleasant. Dinner included many dishes, all of which were delicious; however, breakfast could use a bit more creativity overall. That said, the rice was very tasty. Both the service and Onsen were excellent, so it felt like a missed opportunity overall.

    Cuisine and staff: 5 stars!

    The staff were all very kind and had wonderful smiles. The cuisine, starting from the appetizers, made us think "This is going to be delicious!" and indeed, it was delicate and very tasty. The room amenities included POLA and ReFa products—lovely! The room was clean, and for an Onsen accommodation, having bathrobes was a delightful surprise—especially satisfying for women. Next to the front desk, there was an area with unlimited alcohol and soft drinks, which was great. It truly was an accommodation with excellent service in every aspect.
