    Accommodation with a sense of hospitality

    A warm welcome with smiles upon arrival. Explanations were concise and clear. Despite the freezing winter temperatures, the room and facility were sufficiently warm and comfortable. The three massage chairs available for free use were fantastic, providing much-needed relief after a day of sightseeing. There is an outdoor onsen facility in front of the accommodation, and we received free tickets to enjoy it—such thoughtful service! The Bessho Onsen was gentle on the skin and wonderfully warming. Complimentary beer and drinks available on the first floor added to the fun atmosphere. The accommodation is ideally located within walking distance of famous spots like Kitamuki Kannon Temple, Jorakuji Temple, and Anrakuji Temple—perfect for sightseeing. Dinner featured grilled Shinshu beef as its highlight, along with rich-tasting fatty tuna sashimi, abalone, crab kamameshi rice pot dishes, and other luxurious ingredients that left us fully satisfied. Breakfast was creatively prepared with delightful flavors; I even surprised myself by having three bowls of rice at my age! The meals truly brought joy. From arrival to departure, various services made our stay enjoyable. It was our first visit to this accommodation but turned out to be an extremely satisfying 1-night-2-day experience—a perfect score of 100!

    Hospitality

    I stayed here on a solo trip. The staff's warm and heartfelt hospitality was truly touching. The meals were delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed the local Shinshu ingredients. The all-you-can-drink beer is perfect for beer lovers!

    It was a highly satisfying accommodation.

    We stayed for one night as a couple. The onsen, with its natural hot spring water directly flowing without heating or added water, was excellent. My skin felt smooth after bathing, and I truly appreciated the quality of the spring water. The complimentary draft beer after bathing was also fantastic! You can even take the glass to your room, so I ended up having two glasses. The staff were all very kind and made our stay pleasant. Although we initially wanted to make a reservation for our wedding anniversary, it was fully booked due to the holiday weekend. When we mentioned this in the comments while making a reservation for the following day, they prepared a congratulatory message in our room and served us a small portion of celebratory red rice during dinner from the head chef—it made us very happy! Thank you so much. The meals were delicious with generous portions; despite being full, we managed to finish even the seasoned rice! The only disappointment was that there was only one sauna available in one of the baths and it could only be used between 2 PM and 10 PM. Before dinner it was allocated for men’s use, and after dinner I couldn’t use it because I had been drinking alcohol. Although it's not a new building, everything is well-cleaned, and with attentive staff service, delicious meals with ample portions, an amazing onsen experience—it was an incredibly satisfying stay overall. This is definitely an accommodation we would love to visit again!

    Great!

    I chose a deluxe room but did not upgrade the meal plan, so I went to the accommodation without high expectations. Upon arrival by car, I was impressed by the staff's excellent service and the pleasant atmosphere of the room. The autumn leaves visible from the window were also stunning. Despite not upgrading, the meals were very delicious, and I loved how cute the dishes and chopsticks were! I even ended up buying a pair of chopsticks when leaving (laughs). Next time I stay, I'd like to try upgrading my plan!

    It was very relaxing.

    We stayed here on the last day of our road trip to Shikoku. It was our first time visiting Bessho Onsen, and we chose this place because of its great reviews. Upon arrival, the staff gave us a warm welcome, instantly relieving our travel fatigue. While not a new facility, the renovated lobby was bright, and the room was impeccably clean, allowing us to relax comfortably. The bath had a faint sulfur scent—truly an authentic onsen experience. I’ve heard that when water overflows from the edge of the tub, it indicates a high-quality hotel—and indeed, it overflowed beautifully here. The complimentary draft beer after bathing was also a delightful touch! The meals were beautifully presented with seasonal ingredients and tableware that captured an autumnal theme—both visually and tastefully enjoyable. The matsutake mushroom rice was exceptional! They even accommodated my husband’s food preferences with care, which made him very happy. The staff member who assisted us was cheerful and friendly; we had engaging conversations about local Nagano culture as well as our hometowns—it made for such an enjoyable time! For women’s yukata selection, there were lovely patterns available in neatly packed sets complete with matching sashes—and they even offered dressing assistance if needed! I chose one with navy fabric adorned with floral designs paired with a wisteria-colored sash; though I dressed myself for dinner in my own way before switching to another sash provided in the room later—it added so much excitement to my evening! Despite some challenges adjusting it properly due to fullness from finishing all that delicious matsutake rice (worth every bite!), changing sashes turned out perfect by meal's end! This stay left us feeling relaxed and surrounded by warmth—thank you so much for such a wonderful experience!

    A truly exceptional accommodation you'd rather keep to yourself.

    I visit every year during the matsutake mushroom season. The natural hot spring baths and cuisine are excellent! The drink station offers beer and soft drinks, and there is also a free massage chair. I received a protective charm chopstick souvenir on my way home. It’s an accommodation that always provides complete satisfaction no matter when you visit.

    The Room was spacious, clean, and wonderful, equipped with items like a ReFa hairdryer and hair iron, which made the stay very satisfying. The large bath was right in front, and I enjoyed it twice. Thank you for accommodating my request to change the in-room dining to private dining.

    It became a memorable 10th wedding anniversary!

    To celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, we decided to relax at an Onsen Ryokan and chose Tamaya Ryokan based on its excellent Reviews. After making a Reservation on IKYU.com, we received a confirmation of the completed Reservation but did not hear directly from the Ryokan, which made us a bit anxious. However, upon arrival, the staff warmly welcomed us, putting our minds at ease. It would have been nice to receive a confirmation call or message from the Ryokan 2-3 days prior to our stay. The staff explained that soft drinks and beer were complimentary (beer available from 2 PM to 7 PM), so we immediately headed for the Onsen and looked forward to enjoying a drink afterward. The Onsen (Awayuki) was cozy with sauna facilities included. The open-air bath was also very pleasant and relaxing—we were thoroughly satisfied. After soaking in the bath, we enjoyed refreshing draft beer which elevated our mood immensely! This was followed by a delicious dinner that further enhanced our experience. The only minor drawbacks were that the Room's air conditioning system was analog and difficult to adjust, and some of the Facility features like toilets seemed outdated. However, considering the exceptional service provided by the staff along with great food, wonderful Onsen experiences, and complimentary drinks (including beer), I believe this Ryokan truly deserves near-perfect ratings as reflected in other Reviews. This stay created wonderful memories for our 10th wedding anniversary—thank you so much! We would love to stay here again if given another opportunity!

    A Relaxing Ryokan

    Tamaya Ryokan had great reviews, so I was looking forward to my stay. The staff's warm smiles, the free drinks available anytime, the relaxing bath water, massage chairs, cute yukata robes, and tickets to public baths in town all made for excellent service. The meals were especially delightful—served in a private room with thoughtful preparation by the chefs. The beautifully presented dishes were truly delicious, and the mountain vegetable rice cooked with Shioda-grown Koshihikari rice was particularly outstanding. I would love to stay here again!

    An Accommodation Full of Hospitality

    We stayed here during a family trip with three generations. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with smiles, and our many pieces of luggage were kindly carried for us. The room was clean, and both the onsen at the accommodation and the nearby public bath "Oyu" had excellent hot springs. Meals were served in a private room, allowing us to enjoy quality time as a family. Although our small child made some noise at times, the staff's warm smiles and attentive service made us feel very comfortable, and our child became quite attached to them. My parents also mentioned how wonderful this accommodation was, and we all had an enjoyable time together as a family. If we have another opportunity to visit, we would love to stay here again!     It was a wonderful accommodation!!

    Since it's summer, I wanted to visit a cool retreat! So, I headed to Bessho Onsen in Nagano Prefecture (though it was still quite hot, haha). Based on reviews, I chose Tamaya Ryokan. To conclude upfront—it was truly a wonderful accommodation. Although it is a historic ryokan, it has been renovated and everything, including the room, was very clean. The hospitality was also excellent—professional yet warm—which allowed me to relax and enjoy my stay. For dinner, I indulged in the Chateaubriand course. It was so delicious that I couldn't stop smiling! I didn't associate Nagano with meat before this trip, but this experience completely changed my perception in the best way possible. All the other dishes were also incredibly tasty, including breakfast. The onsen was exceptional as expected and overall left me with wonderful memories. Thank you very much!

    Excellent Services

    I stayed for the Onsen-equipped room. The Premium Suite Room was stylish and spacious. The TV was impressively large and internet-compatible. The Onsen bath in the room had a window that could be opened, allowing it to be enjoyed as a semi-open-air bath, which was very pleasant. The washing area and sink were also spacious and easy to use. High-end amenities, including ReFa showerheads and luxury bath items, were provided. In the lounge, beer and soft drinks are available for free, but Premium Suite Room guests also enjoy unlimited drinks during meals. Additionally, the room's refrigerator is stocked with complimentary beer and cider. The public bath features natural flowing water with both indoor baths and open-air baths to enjoy. While there is a sulfur scent, it’s not overpowering, making the water comfortable to bathe in. Perhaps because it was morning, the sauna felt lukewarm, as did the cold plunge pool; I didn’t use them but found that soaking in the Onsen alone was more than satisfying. The meals included with the Premium Suite Room course featured an abundant serving of Chateaubriand steak that was absolutely delicious. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent but came in such generous portions that they felt almost overwhelming. The level of service exceeded expectations for its price point—I left extremely satisfied!

    Tama-ya Ryokan, very satisfying.

    Tamaya Ryokan in Bessho Onsen, known as Japan's oldest onsen town. I made a reservation through IKYU.com because of the great reviews and photos. It turned out to be an excellent choice, exceeding my expectations. The hospitality, facilities, meals, and services were all very pleasant—I'm truly glad I chose this accommodation. For those looking to relax in a quiet onsen town, this is the perfect onsen accommodation for you!

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    It was our first visit to Bessho Onsen. I traveled with my 84-year-old mother and sister for a one-night, two-day trip. The quaint onsen town had a charming retro atmosphere. We chose Tamaya Ryokan because of its high reviews and ratings. First of all, the staff welcomed us with warm smiles throughout our stay, which left a great impression. The onsen was not very large but had excellent water quality that made our skin smooth. The room provided basket bags, which were very convenient for carrying bath sets around. Meals were served in private rooms, so we didn’t have to worry about hearing others nearby. The dishes were beautifully presented and delicious, with lovely tableware adding to the experience. In addition to yukata, they also offered samue outfits, which was a nice touch. It was delightful that women could choose their own yukata as well. For women’s skincare needs, cleansing face wash (available only in the large public bath), lotion, and emulsion were provided both in the public bath area and in the room. The amenities in the room came in cute little bags that lifted our spirits. Overall, it was an accommodation we were completely satisfied with! My mother enjoyed it too. We would love to stay here again!

    Delicious Small Kaiseki Meal

    A cozy and clean accommodation. The lobby offered free drinks, including draft beer and coffee. Soft drinks were available 24/7, and the mineral water was especially helpful for us as we drink a lot of water. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious.
