    After a femur fracture, I wanted to bathe with peace of mind and tried various accommodations. I decided to make this my regular accommodation in every aspect. I'm looking forward to the next stay. I'm excitedly recommending it to others as well.

    The Perfect Blend of Modern and Retro

    We stayed at this accommodation during our trip to Iwate to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of moving between the modern annex and the retro main building, savoring the passage of time. The quality of the onsen was among the best we've experienced in all our travels, with a perfect temperature that allowed us to relax while listening to the gentle sound of a flowing river. The room was modern with luxurious facilities, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The retro main building had its own charm, and going back and forth between them was an enjoyable experience. The seamless connection between both buildings felt fresh and added a touch of luxury. The meals were Kyoto-style cuisine made with plenty of local ingredients, each dish carefully prepared and perfectly paired with drinks. The staff included people from various countries who provided exceptional service infused with Japanese hospitality. Achieving such attentive service requires not just training but also shared empathy for hospitality values. Their language skills and demeanor were truly impressive—more than admiration, it left us deeply moved. Although we visited hoping to enjoy autumn foliage under rainy weather as forecasted, miraculously blue skies appeared when we left the accommodation, allowing us to enjoy stunning autumn scenery beyond expectations. Overall, we were extremely satisfied. This is an accommodation we'd love to visit again in different seasons as well as during autumn foliage season!

    Hidden Hot Spring: White Monkey Accommodation

    It was my first time visiting Hanamaki Onsen in Iwate Prefecture. With no prior knowledge, I made a reservation after seeing the exclusive offer for Diamond Members on IKYU.com. Staying there left me deeply impressed by its excellence. The room was spacious and came with an open-air natural Onsen bath. Both breakfast and dinner were exquisite. Above all, the hospitality was warm and heartfelt, allowing me to spend a very pleasant time. The main building's Onsen featured four types of baths with separate times for men, women, and mixed bathing. Although it was confusing at first, I got used to it and managed to enjoy them at the right timing. Among them, Shirazaru-no-Yu stood out as exceptional—a hidden gem with over 500 years of history that sparked my imagination about its long past. Descending the stairs led to a deep bath where even standing wouldn’t let your feet touch the bottom; yet despite being colorless and transparent, the water had a silky texture that cured my shoulder stiffness. This Onsen had a retro charm reminiscent of something from "Spirited Away," providing immense relaxation and comfort. If given another opportunity, I would definitely love to stay here again!

    Be amazed by the spacious indoor open-air bath with water springing from the bottom.

    Thanks to the immaculate cleanliness of the facility and rooms, as well as the heartfelt hospitality of the staff, I was able to enjoy a relaxing stay. I had the chance to try various baths within the facility, but what impressed me most was the spacious indoor open-air bath with water bubbling up from below—I lost count of how many times I soaked in it. The amenities, tools, and small items in the room were excellent. Among them, I was particularly impressed by how comfortable the toothbrush felt; I would love to know which brand it is (if you could kindly share). The seasonal cuisine also delighted me and allowed for a leisurely experience. It became a journey that healed both my mind and body—thank you very much!

    The kindness of the staff was truly comforting.

    I arrived a bit early and had nowhere to go, so I stopped by to use the restroom. I was kindly offered tea and told that I could wait in the lobby. They even lent me slippers so I could explore Fujisan Ryokan. Every staff member I encountered greeted me with a smile, making my stay very pleasant. During the meal, dessert was brought to my Room. I gave a 4-star rating because the black sofa had worn-out white spots that looked like dirt, which bothered me, and although I was looking forward to using the sauna as advertised, it was unavailable. Thank you so much for taking my photo in front of Jusan-Gatsu at the end!

    It is unfortunate that the prior notice was not utilized.

    There was a section to inform about "disliked foods/allergies," which I filled out, but during the stay, this was completely ignored, and ingredients I dislike were included as usual. If that is the level of response, I feel it would be better not to ask in the first place. However, both the Onsen attached to the room and the main building's large public bath were excellent, allowing for a relaxing stay.

    Highly satisfied.

    From the moment I entered the Ryokan until I completed the checkout process, I experienced exceptional hospitality. The Room was very tidy and well-maintained, with all amenities provided. However, it was disappointing that the TV was positioned in a way that made it difficult to watch from the bed. The explanation from the room staff was clear, and they responded promptly to requests. Additionally, I was very satisfied with the service provided by the dining staff during meals. On a less positive note, while my luggage was carried upon arrival, there was no assistance with luggage after checkout nor a proper send-off; only a greeting from behind the front desk. As for bathing facilities, it was unfortunate that there wasn’t a large communal bath (though one is available in another building), but I thoroughly enjoyed using the private bath in my Room as it had perfect water temperature. In terms of Facilities, having both a large communal bath and a more extensive gift shop would enhance guests' experience further. The meals were not only delicious but also beautifully presented. While everything nearly deserved full marks, I decided to be slightly critical for improvement opportunities!

    The Room features a sofa, bed, and even a bench in the private bath, ensuring comfort wherever you are. Meals were delicious from start to finish and could be enjoyed at a relaxed pace. The attached large public bath offers unique atmospheres in every area, and the natural hot spring was incredibly refreshing.

    Modern Onsen Accommodation

    A part of the accommodation for therapeutic stays has been renovated into a small luxury space, allowing access to the onsen, which was great. The guest rooms and public spaces are new and comfortable, but the modern design might divide opinions among Japanese onsen guests. It seems that inbound tourists have not yet reached this area. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious.

    Both the Onsen and meals are highly satisfying.

    The room features a spacious Onsen where you can relax while enjoying breathtaking views of beautiful natural scenery. I visited in June, and the covered roof allowed me to enjoy it without worrying about the weather or insects. You can also use the Onsen at the adjacent Fujisan Ryokan, giving you access to a total of four Onsens. The famous standing bath was particularly impressive with its unique atmosphere, offering an extraordinary experience that can't be found elsewhere. "Jusan Gatsu" has a modern and stylish vibe, while "Fujisan Ryokan" exudes traditional charm, allowing you to enjoy different appeals from each. The food is delicious! It features plenty of local vegetables and meat with beautifully presented dishes. In addition to a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, there are local sake options and original cocktails that made choosing fun. When I couldn't decide, the staff kindly offered recommendations, which warmed my heart with their thoughtful service. It was a truly relaxing time that helped me forget everyday life. Next time, I want to visit with friends!

    It was excellent!

    This is one of the few accommodations that made me feel, "I absolutely want to come back," as I was leaving. I didn’t want to leave this time, and it was such a wonderful accommodation and an amazing experience that I’m determined to return. The hot springs were simply outstanding. Being able to enjoy the four historic baths of Fujisan Ryokan (with Shirazaru no Yu being the best) and having a 100% natural hot spring open-air bath in the room felt like pure luxury. The modern and stylish room was incredibly comfortable. Additionally, the free-flow lounge "Lounge Fujitoki," where you can enjoy various drinks including alcohol, was truly impressive. Delicious meals, warm-hearted staff—everything about this place was exceptional. I will definitely visit again!

    A timeless soak in a one-of-a-kind hidden hot spring

    I had been looking forward to visiting for months after gathering information from reviews. From the moment I stepped into the entrance, front desk, and drink space, my experience far exceeded my expectations. The welcome drinks offered were abundant in variety, and although there was a time limit, being able to enjoy them in a free-flow style was impressive. The hospitality felt throughout the check-in process and beyond conveyed true professionalism. The onsen I had been eagerly anticipating featured multiple baths with different atmospheres depending on the time of day. The open-air bath "Katsura no Yu," where you can relax to the sound of a flowing river, and "Shirouen no Yu," famous for its 125cm depth as a standing bath, were particularly memorable. This onsen boasts over 600 years of history (and over 230 years as an onsen ryokan), with architecture that exudes charm and allows you to feel the ambiance of its founding era. Not only did I enjoy soaking in the baths but also immersing myself in their rich history. What amazed me even more was that these renowned hot springs are directly sourced at 100% from their origin and flow into each guest room's private open-air bath. I indulged in luxurious baths twice each morning and evening. All amenities within the facility were carefully selected to harmonize with its unique atmosphere. From chairs to paintings, every piece reflected an artistic sensibility that made me feel like I was inside an art museum. Everything about this place provided ultimate comfort. Thank you so much to all staff members! I look forward to visiting again when given another opportunity!

    An Unforgettable Renowned Ryokan

    I stayed here for a luxurious trip with friends. The stylish guest room, with attention to detail in every amenity, featured a private open-air bath. Relaxing while listening to the sound of the river and enjoying the view was truly blissful. The famous "Shirasaru no Yu" offered a nostalgic atmosphere that felt as if time had stopped, making it irresistible for Onsen enthusiasts. Not only were the facilities excellent, but the staff's kind and cheerful service made our entire stay comfortable and pleasant. The local cuisine was exquisite, and I found myself going back for seconds multiple times. With its exceptional Onsen, service, and food, this accommodation is one I would proudly recommend to others—I will definitely return!

    It was comfortable this time as well.

    The stay was comfortable as always. The Room 203, my favorite every time, was as pleasant as ever. However, the meals seem to have declined slightly each year, which is disappointing. The silver bento box introduced last time might be convenient in some ways, but the previous style was undoubtedly better. I had been looking forward to the final pudding, but this time it was quite disappointing. Breakfast had remained consistent for many years; however, changes such as cost-cutting on salads and bacon pots were noticeable and unfortunate. I also preferred salmon over stewed sardines for fish dishes. While I would like to say I'll visit again, unfortunately, this experience has left me questioning whether I will return next year.

    Wonderful Onsen, cuisine, and service

    The room's open-air bath was very spacious, and soaking while listening to the gentle stream nearby was absolutely wonderful. The meals had a wide variety of dishes and were incredibly delicious. The language and demeanor of the foreign staff were very polite and professional, making for a pleasant experience. Although it is far from Shin-Hanamaki Station, there is a free shuttle service available, so it’s easy to get there if you plan your timing accordingly. Perhaps because it’s located away from the station, the pricing is very reasonable, and I would love to visit again.

    The staff provided excellent service.

    On a whim, I decided to visit Konjikido since I had come all the way to Iwate Prefecture. I consulted about Shinkansen schedules and ticket changes, and received courteous assistance until the very end. The meals were exquisitely seasoned, giving me new ideas for enjoying pork dishes. As for the Facility, its innovative and simple design with stylish beauty was impressive; however, I felt there is room for improvement in terms of usability and clarity. If staying for more than four days, one might get accustomed to it, but it could be confusing on the first day.

    I stayed with a friend, and we had a wonderful experience. The room was very charming, and the view from the room was filled with lush greenery, which was amazing! There were four types of Onsen, and we spent most of our stay enjoying them. The outdoor air bath in the sauna offered a view of a waterfall, making it incredibly relaxing! Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the staff's service was exceptionally polite. Thank you very much!

    Multiple Night Stay

    I stayed for 2 nights. Both dinner and breakfast were elaborate and very delicious. The room was very clean, and the amenities were well-equipped. Above all, the private onsen in the room was exceptional. Since I live in the Kanto region, it’s not easy to visit often, but I would love to stay again.     I had a thoroughly relaxing time.

    This was my second stay. The surrounding tranquility and abundant nature of the mountains and rivers allowed me to relax both physically and mentally. The quality of the hot spring water is excellent, so I enjoyed multiple baths, including those at the adjacent Fujisan Ryokan, while being careful not to overdo it. Thanks to this, my skin became smooth and radiant—my makeup application felt completely different! The open-air bath in the Room is impressively large, offering a luxurious size that comfortably fits two adults with plenty of space left. The meals were delicious; I especially loved the morning "Hittsumi" soup—the broth was incredibly soothing for a morning meal. The portion sizes were just right for us but might feel a bit small for younger guests. Amenities were sufficient overall; however, there was an issue with the hairdryer in our Room—it didn’t produce warm air. Even after replacing it with another one, it still didn’t work properly. While we managed by using the hairdryers at Fujisan Ryokan’s bath area, having functional hairdryers in each Room would be appreciated—even affordable ones would suffice. Additionally, I found the lighting dim and somewhat complicated to operate (not user-friendly). The overall interior design feels overly chic (to an extreme), giving off a rather dark impression throughout the facility. It’s unfortunate that natural light barely enters inside—I couldn’t fully enjoy this season's fresh greenery as much as I had hoped.

    Attention to detail is essential.

    The bath is described as a natural hot spring, but it is actually a recirculating system, and the water temperature was low. Additionally, the ventilation fan was noisy, making it difficult to sleep well. The root vegetables in the breakfast soup were frozen products, which was disappointing. Upon checking out and going to the parking lot, workers were loitering nearby, which left a very unpleasant impression. It felt like there was a lack of consideration for guests.

    For inbound travelers?

    The room had an open-air onsen bath with water directly from the source, but it was a Western-style room with a black interior design, lacking the traditional atmosphere of an onsen accommodation. It felt more like a city hotel. Although we expected to enjoy the view of the river from the open-air bath, staying in a first-floor room meant that garden plants obstructed the view of the river. While we didn’t specifically want a classic Japanese-style room, this Western style felt too modern and lacked comfort. The amenities, furnishings, meals, and large public bath were perfect; however, it was slightly disappointing overall.

    Highly satisfying, the open-air bath is excellent.

    The accommodation was priced higher than expected for a countryside hotel, so I stayed with mixed feelings of anticipation and concern. At first, the spacious room felt impersonal. However, the main building, a Showa-era structure, had its charm. The highlight was Japan's deepest standing bath at 125 cm deep. Entering and exiting required using footholds on the wall like bouldering—it was thrilling! Other baths also had slightly hotter water and were somewhat deeper than usual. I enjoyed the Onsen in two locations within the main building before heading to my private open-air bath attached to my room after dinner. The tub measured approximately 150 cm by 280 cm and was quite spacious, as was the room itself at about six tatami mats in size. There were three entrances to the bathroom: from the bedroom, washroom, and shower room. I fully indulged in Onsen bathing—soaking twice in each bath—and was amazed that my shoulder stiffness completely disappeared. What initially felt like an impersonal room eventually became as comfortable as if it were my own space. The meals focused on locally sourced ingredients with each dish carefully handmade and deliciously prepared. Some staff members were from overseas; while they seemed to struggle slightly with Japanese language skills, their well-trained service left a positive impression. Although it rained during my stay—making the sound of the river louder—the scent of rain-soaked greenery added to a deeply relaxing experience. This is an Onsen accommodation I would love to visit again!

    Simply amazing. We stayed in a great room with a bath near the open-air Onsen, and the windows could be fully opened. Guests also have access to the adjacent Ryokan (a healing retreat) with its historic Onsen, including unique standing baths, open-air baths, large communal baths, and a relaxing lounge. The hostess greeted us warmly, and the staff provided personalized attention to ensure our stay was comfortable and hassle-free. The meals were exceptional, allowing us to enjoy a leisurely and blissful time. A minor note: since there are multiple excellent baths available, you’ll need to plan your schedule carefully if you want to experience them all! (I got carried away trying too many baths and ended up feeling slightly overheated.) Also, as the layout can be a bit confusing when moving between buildings of the Ryokan complex, it’s best to check the facility map thoroughly beforehand.

    Onsen Available, Meals Included...

    We visited a few years ago and enjoyed the delicious and luxurious meals, so we decided to return. However, has the chef changed? The seasoning did not suit our taste... and we were disappointed with the main dish lacking a sense of season. But the Onsen was great.

    The bath and the Room bath were great this time as well.

    This was my second stay at this accommodation. In fact, I made a special trip from Kanagawa Prefecture just to stay here. The hostess remembered me even though it had been over a year since my first visit and even recalled that I don't drink alcohol, which was a delightful surprise. What makes this accommodation unique is that you can enjoy both the charm of a traditional healing onsen inn and modern rooms with private open-air baths at the same time. I doubt there's another place like it. The room's bath is spacious enough to stretch out comfortably, and you can hear the soothing sound of the Toyohira River flowing below while soaking in your private open-air bath—it's truly exceptional. Of course, the room's bath features natural onsen water directly sourced from the spring. The slightly hotter temperature was perfect for me. You also have free access to the healing onsen area, where "Shirozaru no Yu" (White Monkey Bath) offers an incredible experience worth staying here for alone. This spring has an interesting history—it dried up once but was rediscovered by ancestors who dug it again. Located down several flights of stairs from the first floor, its depth reaches about an adult’s neck level. Hot water bubbles up in the center of the tub, creating a fantastical blue hue when viewed from above. Next to it is a cold-water bath fed by natural spring water; it's not too cold but perfectly refreshing. Meals are creative Japanese cuisine with portions satisfying even younger guests and excellent flavors overall. This time, we enjoyed dishes like steamed snow crab and abalone cooked using hot lava stones in an earthen pot—a unique presentation where steam rises dramatically as water is poured over heated stones under a mesh grill holding fresh ingredients. Another reason I love staying here is their lounge located on the healing onsen side—a wooden structure overlooking the river that feels incredibly calming and conducive to productivity; thanks to this space, I managed to finish some pending work during my stay. One minor issue: there were stains on some aluminum sashes around our open-air bath area—likely due to exposure from being near hot springs—but as they say, "God is in details," so I'm hoping for improvement next time!
