Amami Onsen Nanten-en

The meals were excellent. There were many unique dishes, such as persimmon shira-ae and fig-and-sea-urchin tempura, and we enjoyed both the presentation and the flavors. The shabu-shabu meat was so tender it practically melted in my mouth, and it was delicious. The sesame sauce that came with it was so good I wanted to take it home.All of the staff were kind and pleasant.I had been looking forward to seeing it because I heard it was designed by Kingo Tatsuno, but the interior felt too simple for me to notice any differences, and overall it gave me the impression of an old-fashioned Ryokan with aging facilities. The large public bath has only one sink area, which would be inconvenient if you come with friends. The sink in the Room also had no space to place toiletries, which was inconvenient.That said, since this is a Ryokan surrounded by nature, it is very quiet. You can hear trains because it is close to the station, but otherwise you can hear things like insects chirping, so visitors from the city can enjoy a real change of pace.

Four of us women stayed in the Room called “Yomoyama.” As a corner Room, it had great views, and we loved the lush garden and the spacious Japanese-style Room set up as a summer tatami sitting area. Every attendant provided wonderful service, so we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. Dinner was thoughtfully prepared, and we enjoyed every dish.From 8:00 p.m., we took a walk in the garden to watch fireflies; since the weather was good, we saw many of them. It was a great trip where we could feel the charm of Japan in this historic and wonderful building.
