A trip to Izu as a birthday-month gift for my husband!
My husband, who loves the sea, and I visited Izu for the first time in six years. We avoided the Obon period around my birthday and postponed our trip a bit. I even worked the day before, and driving there and back was tougher than expected—but I was so excited that I drove safely on my own! At the Accommodation, we planned to relax, but there were three private family baths, and we were able to use all of them. It was such a happy time. My husband also received a birthday dessert plate—thank you very much. I felt it would have been nicer to have a Room with easier access within the building, and since my eyesight is poor, it would have helped to have a bright table lamp or similar lighting in the Room. This may not be necessary for younger or more energetic guests. Thank you for taking care of us.

Overwhelming Guest Satisfaction
My third visit in three years. Everything was wonderful, including the meals, the Onsen, and the room. The service level has not dropped at all since three years ago; if anything, the cuisine felt even more refined, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Dining while looking out over the fresh green garden and having coffee after the meal allowed me to spend a truly exceptional time that can only be experienced here. Thank you to all the staff.

Calm and attentive service makes your stay truly comfortable.
I was soothed by the exquisite cuisine and the warm, attentive service. The Facility strikes a perfect balance between tradition and modern design, with a refined atmosphere that feels truly relaxing. It’s a place where adults can spend quiet, high-quality time. The Onsen lets you fully enjoy the true pleasure of natural hot spring water in serene surroundings. The dining was exceptional—everything from the way ingredients were cut to the precise cooking was spot-on and delicious, and each piece of tableware was beautifully chosen, making it a feast for the eyes as well. Even breakfast was flawless. I’m already thinking about when to visit next.

The hot spring bath was a luxurious treat.
The free-flowing hot spring feels as if it towers at the entrance of the Accommodation. Even in this heat, the lush garden and moss are beautifully maintained, making it a very comfortable stay. Dragonflies were flying around, lizards were at our feet, and we were surprised to even see monkeys behind the property. Two nights and three days flew by, but we thoroughly enjoyed the large public bath, the private bath, and even the bath in our Room—pure luxury! We also enjoyed the meals. We had dessert after dinner on the garden terrace once it cooled down, but before we knew it we got bitten by lots of mosquitoes. Since there is a pond it may be unavoidable, but having mosquito coils or similar would be helpful. All staff members were polite and kind. Thank you very much for taking care of us—we would love to visit again.

A very disappointing stay.
Depending on the Room and Plan you choose, your experience may differ, and some guests may have fond memories of this Accommodation. However, based on our stay this time, the overall standards of hygiene and guest service were low and extremely disappointing. From my personal perspective: Unlike the photos on the website, the interior is generally cramped and the garden is not spacious. There is no proper separation or flow between guest areas and the kitchen, so you frequently run into kitchen staff in the corridors. The guest rooms and open-air bath face a roadway, so traffic noise can be heard constantly. We were seated at the far end of the counter for meals; people passed behind us repeatedly, making it as noisy as an izakaya. Through gaps under the noren curtain, plastic storage boxes and shelves in the back area were fully visible, and voices from what sounded like staff arguing in the kitchen carried straight through. Staff kept taking items in and out right in front of us even when they did not seem to need them immediately—there was no consideration at all that guests were dining. Basic temperature control was also lacking: hot dishes cooled down quickly, while cold sashimi was lukewarm. The food was also overly salty across the board. In addition, we were told that leftover rice from dinner would be made into rice balls and delivered to us, but what arrived was a sticky lump crushed like a dumpling. Worse still, it was placed directly on top of a slipper disinfection tag at the entrance area—raising serious concerns about hygiene. The morning newspaper being left directly on the hallway floor further reflected an overall lack of care. Finally, despite declining, I appear to have been registered as a group member anyway; this stay left me with strong distrust regarding how personal information is handled as well.

Stay with the Yuki-tei Group
Because Yūkitei and the Kawana Annex were great, I decided to stay at Gyokuhokan, another Accommodation in the same group. It felt like a classic high-end Ryokan with modernized Facilities, which was excellent. The large public bath with alternating men’s/women’s hours and the private baths were also very good. One thing I noticed is that after the switch, the available time for the large public bath is short—I’d like to be able to stay in longer.

Kawazu Family Trip
As a true adults-only hideaway, the Accommodation was quiet and relaxing. The meals were delicious, beautifully presented, and the ingredients were explained with great care. If the washroom lighting were a bit brighter, it would have been easier to apply makeup. We made another wonderful memory with my daughter.

The meals are exceptional.
This was our sixth stay, and the meals are simply delicious. Also, a roof has been installed over the open-air bath and shower in the Main Building room with an open-air bath, so we don’t have to worry about rain or direct sunlight. We’re truly delighted that the room has become even more comfortable and convenient to use.

I always feel safe and comfortable staying here.
We have stayed here more than 10 times. This time, my daughters insisted on coming because they always brag about it, so the four of us visited together. Thank you for the consistently delicious meals and excellent service.

We stayed here for a family trip.
We visited as a group of four with my parents. They promptly contacted us in advance to confirm details such as meals for my pregnant wife and arrangements for my visually impaired father, and the hospitality on the day was wonderful—my parents were very satisfied.

A Cozy Adults-Only Accommodation
I’m a repeat guest. Although this Accommodation has a 100-year history, the in-house Facility, garden, guest Rooms, baths—everything is beautifully maintained, and you can feel the attention to detail throughout to ensure a comfortable stay. The staff service is also excellent. Their sense of distance—stepping in smoothly when needed—felt very pleasant, and I was able to truly relax. The meals were delicious as well, and the tableware and presentation are beautiful and exciting. I feel the dining alone offers more than enough value for the price. Also, since there are relatively few Rooms and no children staying, the atmosphere inside is calm, which I love because I can relax anywhere in the Accommodation. These days, perhaps due to rising costs, I’m often disappointed when food quality or service declines on repeat visits—but I sincerely hope Gyokuhokan will remain unchanged when I visit next time. I will definitely return.

First visit in 10 years
My wife and I stayed at Gyokuhokan 10 years ago. As our stay approached, we received a call to check our Reservation. They casually greeted us with, “Thank you for staying with us again,” and I was truly touched that they remembered us as returning guests even after a decade. It had been a long time, yet the memories came back as vividly as if it were yesterday. The large public bath and the private baths had evolved with new touches, making each soak during our stay feel fresh and enjoyable. The Onsen warmed me through to the core—it was wonderful. The meals were outstanding. The reason my wife and I decided to return was not only the quality of the hot spring water, but also the exceptional standard of the cuisine—its quality, flavor, and overall satisfaction are simply top-class. It felt even more refined than 10 years ago, which impressed us deeply. We also enjoyed relaxing at the bar after dinner. Sleeping on such comfortable bedding helped me rest well; although I struggle with sleep issues, I slept deeply for the first time in quite a while. Breakfast was excellent too—both in taste and presentation. We talked about coming back at least once a year from now on. Thank you very much.

Although the building is historic, it is very clean and a pleasant Accommodation. This Taisho-era romantic Room is also very charming. Time passes quietly inside the Accommodation. Our family of six stayed here. Thank you very much.

This was my first time staying in a detached Room. As soon as I stepped inside, the fresh, pleasant scent of tatami rush filled the air—wonderful. The cocktails at the bar were also excellent. Thank you to the head chef for the delicious meal.

We had a relaxing stay.
We had a very relaxing stay. The in-room Onsen was at a perfect temperature and felt wonderful. It was a shame that we couldn’t open the Room’s snow-view shoji screens; if opened, the Room layout would be visible from the road and parking lot outside. Because the bath in the Room was so comfortable, we didn’t use the public bath or private baths. Dinner at the restaurant offered many choices just as described in Reviews, and we enjoyed it with both our eyes and taste buds—it was truly delicious. They also had my favorite sake, Hakurakusei, so I drank quite a lot. Compared with dinner, breakfast felt a bit disappointing. The dried fish was tasty, but everything else was fairly standard and nothing particularly memorable. As others have mentioned, coffee was charged separately. We had it outside with dessert; even though it wasn’t free, it seemed like many guests still ordered it. It felt great to enjoy it while looking out at the greenery in the garden. The thoughtful suggestion to seat women where they wouldn’t be hit by direct morning sun when taking our seats was appreciated. After dinner we received complimentary tickets for the bar; it was a lovely space. One thing that concerned us about dining: perhaps because of the wooden floors, footsteps were quite loud. With staff moving around constantly, there were always footsteps and it sometimes felt hard to relax. Also, clearing away leftover rice happened too quickly. Since we had already said we didn’t need refills, it’s fine to take it away—but doing so immediately made us feel rushed. I wondered if this was related to making onigiri for room service, but they cleared away the rice pot just as quickly at breakfast as well. When a staff member from overseas served us and I asked where they were from, they said Nepal—so I tried to speak with them a bit in support—but they told me they didn’t want that because it made them nervous. These days many Accommodations have international staff working there; in Japan where there is a labor shortage, I like to say a few words of encouragement—though that may have been self-centered on my part. Everyone always greeted us with smiles, so I spoke as I normally would without thinking too much about it. That said, dinner really was excellent overall. Thank you very much for your hospitality."""

Stay for an Anniversary Celebration
We stayed on 5/24 with the Anniversary Plan. When we arrived and parked, a staff member greeted us, carried our luggage, and took a commemorative photo on the way to the entrance. Check-in was not at the front desk; we completed it in a lounge-like space while enjoying tea and homemade warabi mochi. After an explanation of the facilities, we were escorted to our Room. A half bottle of Moët champagne and a preserved flower arrangement were prepared in advance—my wife couldn’t stop smiling. Before dinner, we headed straight to the large public Onsen bath. Once warmed up, we returned to the Room and toasted with champagne. Dinner was a full Japanese course: appetizer, assorted starters, soup, sashimi, fish dish, meat dish, tachiuo (beltfish) takikomi rice, and dessert. Both the fish and meat could be chosen from three options each; my wife selected shrimp shinjo and grilled Japanese black wagyu beef tenderloin, while I chose grilled Mt. Fuji salmon cured with kombu as well as beef tenderloin. To match the dishes, my wife chose a non-alcohol pairing set while I chose an alcoholic pairing set separately. The non-alcohol pairing was an interesting concept that she really enjoyed. Personally, I especially liked the soup featuring black rockfish along with vegetables. For the sashimi course, they offered not only soy sauce but also rare irizake and sea salt for different flavors—an enjoyable touch. Everything was delicious; aside from some of the rice dishes at times due to being full, we finished it all. At dessert they added an anniversary message on our dessert plate and took another commemorative photo. Dinner started at 6:00 p.m. and lasted about two hours; at 9:00 p.m., we went to our reserved private bath. Since there wasn’t much time after dinner before that slot, it would have been nice if later Reservation times had been available. We fully enjoyed the open-air bath in our Room in the morning as well. Even without soaking for long in this Onsen water type , my body stayed warm for quite some time afterward. Breakfast was reserved for 9:00 a.m., which suited us well since it was later than usual. We enjoyed many different flavors served in small dishes; even the dried horse mackerel was rich and flavorful. For dessert at the end of breakfast , they suggested moving outside , so we had it on terrace seating . Check-out was handled seated just like check-in , while viewing photos taken yesterday . Afterward , they carried our luggage back to car ; along way they also took more photos . It truly felt like attentive hospitality from start to finish —a very satisfying one-night trip .

Returning for another stay solo this time.
My schedule suddenly opened up, and when I checked Gyokuhokan, there was a Room available—so I made a Reservation the night before and visited. The open-air bath guest Room I stayed in last time was fully booked, so this time I treated myself to a detached villa with a private open-air bath. I love the building itself, and the lobby is beautiful as well. From the approach into the villa area, everything was already stunning—I knew I’d made the right choice even before stepping into the Room (lol). The Room was flawless, of course. And the bath—also wonderful. Since I soaked many times during my stay, each time I felt soothed by the hot water and its gentle sounds. The meals were delicious, and the late-night snack delivered to the Room later on became my midnight treat. After breakfast, I enjoyed dessert on the terrace while looking out at the garden. Once again, I had a truly relaxing stay. The bed mattress in that Room was so good—I regret forgetting to ask what brand it was.

Shuttle Service by Car
This was my first time taking the Odoriko Limited Express, and I requested a pickup at Kawazu Station. For the return trip, I also asked for a ride to the station, but since it was my first time and we had some extra time, they kindly drove me to Kinomiya Shrine as well, which was very helpful. The shrine’s large camphor tree was truly impressive, and on the way to the station there was a tourist information center where I could buy locally grown produce directly from farmers.

I travel looking for...
I travel looking forward to enjoying the meals, the Onsen, relaxing in my Room, and communicating with the staff. The meals offered a wide variety of options, and the person who served us was cheerful and polite, so I was able to enjoy a pleasant and delicious meal. At breakfast, the rice was so good that I ordered an egg, but I was surprised to be charged 150 yen for a regular white egg. Coffee after the meal was also an additional charge. Since this Hotel is 9,000 yen more expensive than the ones I usually stay at, I was surprised again. There was only one in-room coffee provided as well, so I couldn’t get a refill. The Onsen was relaxing while I had it to myself, but two foreign guests entered without rinsing first (kakeyu), which made me uncomfortable and I decided to leave right away. At checkout, while I was carrying my luggage and going down the stairs with a cane, two female staff members came up from below but walked past without even greeting me. When I stopped halfway on the stairs to rest, a male staff member who came from behind carried my luggage down for me, which really helped. What would have happened if I had fallen down the stairs? Overall, it ended up being a trip that didn’t quite suit me.

It was excellent.
The meals, the Onsen, and the overall atmosphere were all wonderful. I stayed for two nights, and they thoughtfully made some changes to the meals between the first and second days, so I felt their care throughout my stay. All of the staff were kind, and in particular the service from the female staff member was exceptional. I also booked a massage, which was excellent. I would love to visit again.

Couples’ Trip
I often stay at Accommodations in Izu, but this was my first time in Kawazu. I had been interested in Gyokuhokan for some time and hoped to stay there when I had the chance. It was a wonderful Accommodation that fully met my expectations. The staff were very welcoming, and I found it especially relaxing to see how well maintained the garden was. I understand you are celebrating your 100th anniversary—congratulations. It was a lovely Accommodation, and I would be happy to stay again if I have the opportunity.

All the staff were cheerful and provided very pleasant service. The open-air bath in the Room was also very spacious, and it was great that towels were available in the large public bath as well, so we only needed to bring a change of clothes from the Room. We stayed for two nights, and both breakfast and dinner were carefully prepared dish by dish; every meal was different, and everything was truly delicious. We are really glad we stayed here!

The meals are excellent.
This was my second stay. I have stayed at all accommodations in the Yuki-tei Group, and the meals here are No. 1. They were far more delicious than the price suggests. This time, I was also able to enjoy bar time as a special perk. The staff provided wonderfully pleasant service, which was truly relaxing. Next time, I’d like to try the seasonal dishes from a different time of year—I’m looking forward to it.\nI also bought a rice bowl as a souvenir, and I’m very happy with it.

Taisho Romantic Style
This was my first time learning about and visiting Mine Onsen! From the hot spring source next to the entrance, to the garden and the charming lobby, I was soothed by a sense of old-world romance from the moment we arrived. Dinner, its pairing with alcohol, and even the evening bar were all elegant and full of atmosphere. The birthday plate we requested was also wonderful. Dessert on the terrace after breakfast made for a lovely time. I’d love to visit again in a different season! The staff’s hospitality was excellent.

An almost perfect Accommodation
We had the pleasure of visiting Gyokuhokan at its 100th anniversary milestone. As many Reviews say, it is an Accommodation where “the food is excellent, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the Onsen and hospitality are outstanding,” and my spouse and I truly enjoyed our stay. We were especially impressed by how comfortably we could relax in the private bath with plenty of time to spare (we heard it first sprang forth on November 22, 100 years ago...). The dinner ingredients and tableware also felt like items chosen with care that conveyed the head chef’s passion. If we may offer one comment, we felt that if we could more directly sense a uniquely Minami-Izu “local character,” or the staff’s personal attachment to “this Ryokan,” it would become an even more welcoming luxury Ryokan. We would love to visit again if we have the chance. Thank you very much.

It was a memorable Ryokan I visited several times when I was younger. It still felt familiar and nostalgic; the square pool is gone, but the meals were delicious, and the Onsen was wonderfully rejuvenating. I’d love to visit again.

I felt that it’s rare to find such a wonderful Ryokan.
Founded in the Taisho era, this Ryokan features a powerful Onsen spring on the grounds that bubbles up vigorously—truly impressive. The refined, understated atmosphere, the unmistakable sense of quality and elegance, and the wonderful Room were all exceptional. The staff were outstanding as well, always attentive and thinking ahead in every detail. The cuisine was like works of art, and tasted just as remarkable. From start to finish, everything was simply superb. Thank you for the wonderful memories and for all your thoughtful hospitality.

This was my first stay at this Accommodation, and the moment I saw the charming atmosphere and spacious garden, I thought, “Choosing this Accommodation was the right decision!” I was also amazed by the natural Onsen springing up beside the entrance. The open-air bath in my Room, with free-flowing hot spring water direct from the source, was generously sized—I enjoyed it many times and felt completely refreshed. The meals were also delicious. I could really feel how sincerely the younger staff members worked, which made for a warm and pleasant experience. I’d love to visit again when the Kawazu cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness toward my left-handed husband despite how busy you were. It was a small thing, but it made him very happy. When it’s just the two of us, we love the Taisho Roman Room. This time, while drinking a canned beer by the window in our Room, I was truly impressed by how beautifully clean the window glass was. Even though this is an old building that has been renovated, it is kept in such excellent condition—I think it’s wonderful. We loved the ceramic bath in the private bath before, but during this stay we came to love the retro Yuunagi bath even more. We will definitely stay again. Thank you very much.
