For this trip to Tateyama, we planned a three-night stay. The first night was on the Alpine Route, and when I wasn’t sure where to stay from the second night onward, I asked ChatGPT for advice. This Accommodation was recommended as a “can’t-go-wrong” choice—excellent food, great Rooms, and beautiful gorge views across the board. Through our exchanges, it was also suggested that since it’s Enraku, arriving early and taking time to relax would be ideal. As the weather in Tateyama wasn’t great this time, we checked in early after 3:00 p.m. and enjoyed a slow, restful stay. The Accommodation itself felt a bit old in places, but it was very well cleaned and comfortable throughout. The open-air bath and the main public bath are on different floors; our next Accommodation had the same setup as well, so perhaps it’s common. Still, going from the main bath to changing back into clothes and then heading to the open-air bath again felt a little inconvenient. In hindsight, I should have just used only the open-air bath after dinner—but I was too full to move much and missed using it on the first day, which was disappointing. Since there is a men/women rotation system for bathing times, I fully enjoyed the other open-air bath the next morning. While many Ryokan these days serve meals in dining areas, here both dinner and breakfast were prepared in a private room next to our Room. Being able to dine at ease in-room-style was wonderful. The white rice—cooked in a kamado pot right there for both dinner and breakfast—was especially delicious. Because we mentioned this was a kanreki (60th birthday) celebration trip, they kindly provided sekihan (red bean rice), took photos of us wearing a red chanchanko vest as part of the tradition—it became a truly special memory. We also heard that starting in October the trolley train will reopen along its full route with new sections added as well. Since we couldn’t fully enjoy Tateyama’s scenery due to unstable weather this time, we’d love to visit again someday—and when we do, we hope to stay with you again.
