Fully satisfied with the delicious food
I stayed here after relatives in Shonai recommended it as an Accommodation with excellent food, and it exceeded my expectations. From appetizers to dessert, everything was carefully prepared—making the most of the ingredients with creative touches—and the portions were generous. Every dish was delicious, and I left completely satisfied. Breakfast was just as impressive as dinner, with a wide variety of items and great flavor. After the wonderful meal, it was also nice to relax in the Onsen bath in my Room. The staff’s bright smiles were another highlight. I’d love to come back to enjoy seasonal dishes at a different time of year, and also explore the Onsen town and try visiting private baths at other facilities.

All the staff were wonderful, and I had a very pleasant stay. The meals were delicious. I would love to visit again.

Unlimited access to the private bath.
Although we visited in the rain, we came for the Onsen and the food, so it didn’t bother us much. We were shown to the private baths soon after arrival, and enjoyed both this inn’s private baths and those at the sister property. It was convenient that you can use them freely when available; however, the “In Use” sign was often displayed, so timing is important. Including the sister property, there seem to be 8 or 9 baths in total, and it’s difficult to visit them all in one night. The main public bath at this property was also spacious enough, including an open-air bath. The meal featured an extensive rock oyster menu and was very delicious. The quiet Yutagawa Onsen town also had its own charm and atmosphere. Unfortunately, amenities were limited to a toothbrush only, so I deducted one point.

Dining and Onsen
Although the building is old, it is clean and well maintained. There are many Onsen baths in different areas, which makes it fun, and we were able to use the private bath smoothly. Above all, the meals were excellent. Even the small items are homemade, and you can tell everything is carefully prepared—the pudding was delicious as well. The main oyster dish was outstanding. I often order meat sushi in various places, but this was the best I’ve had. The tableware is also beautiful and adds to the enjoyment; even a simple cup of tea feels soothing when served in such lovely dishes. We were very satisfied with both the Onsen and the food. If possible, I would appreciate more amenities from a women’s perspective.

The food is exceptionally delicious.
We made a Reservation looking forward to the cuisine. We were told there were three types of Onsen baths in the building and that we could also use the baths at other facilities, but unfortunately we weren’t able to go elsewhere. From the appetizers onward, we thoroughly enjoyed the creative Japanese dishes as a couple—melting tuna nakaochi, piping-hot black flounder tempura, Yamagata beef and eggplant with tomato and ginger vinegar, an incredibly sweet corn mousse, sea bream chazuke made with specially cultivated rice, and dessert—until we felt completely full. We would love to visit again and take our time enjoying the hot springs as well.

The food is delicious.
Every dish was delicious. I was especially captivated by the flavor and presentation of the Japanese-style mousse. With each course that followed, I could feel the care put into every detail, and even the dessert was outstanding. If it were closer, I would want to stay every time the menu changes. In the past, I loved the cuisine at a nearby Ryokan and stayed there every month. However, when the head chef changed, I was surprised at how much the taste could change even though the menu remained the same. I truly hope your cuisine will continue to be preserved. Each staff member welcomed us with a warm, natural smile and kind service, and it made me feel this is a wonderful Ryokan. Thank you very much.

Savor your Accommodation.
I visited when I went to Mt. Haguro. As this is the Year of the Horse, it’s considered a year of special connections. This area of Dewa Sanzan feels full of positive energy no matter how many times I visit. Yutagawa Onsen is also a historic Onsen with 1,300 years of history. There are public bathhouses as well, and you can really feel the long-standing Onsen culture. From the moment I arrived at the Accommodation, I was impressed by how attentive and courteous the hospitality was. Throughout my stay, they kept a perfect balance—never intrusive, yet warmly considerate toward guests—which I found wonderful. The building and Room were also thoughtfully arranged, very clean, and comfortable. You could tell there was careful attention to detail. I was also surprised to learn that Sayuri Yoshinaga has stayed at this Ryokan before, and there were related items on display. The spring water is clear and colorless with no noticeable taste or smell—an easy-to-enjoy bath for most people. In the in-room bath, perhaps due to a difference in temperature, I could feel a slight silky texture, and I enjoyed soaking while looking out at Mt. Chokai. One disappointing point—though not the Accommodation’s fault—was that an elderly female guest brought a smartphone into the large public bath. While other guests were bathing, she even asked if it would be okay to take photos. The goldfish bath may be unusual, but I hope people will make an effort to keep it in their hearts and memories rather than taking pictures. The meals were extremely satisfying both dinner and breakfast. I changed from the “80% full” Plan to the standard Plan, and everything was delicious—I left completely full. You can tell real care goes into each dish: seasonal Yamagata flavors across beef (of course), seafood, vegetables—and even Tsuyahime rice. Now I understand why they offer an “80% full” Plan. Yamagata truly has it all—food, sights, Onsen hot springs (Onsen), and local character—and this trip reminded me what a great prefecture it is. I’ll be back again.

Unfortunately, we weren’t blessed with good weather this time either...
I stayed at this Accommodation at the exact same time last year, and I was very disappointed because heavy rain and thunder meant I couldn’t do the hot-spring tour of the sister properties. I’d been wanting to come back ever since, and I finally made it this time—but once again, just like last time, it was pouring rain and the weather was wild. Still, this time I managed to push through with an umbrella and visit two of the sister properties. Even though they use the same hot spring source, it was interesting that each bath felt slightly different. I couldn’t get a chance to use the recommended panoramic bath because it never seemed to be available, but I thoroughly enjoyed the other baths. The bath in our Room was also excellent. With the window open, it felt wonderfully open-air, and the water was so relaxing I could have stayed in forever. As for meals—since we visited during the same season as last year—it’s only natural that most of the menu was almost identical. Even so, we were very satisfied and everything was delicious. Everyone who served our meals provided pleasant and courteous service as well. It’s quite far from Yokohama so it isn’t easy to return often, but if we have another chance, we’d love to visit in a different season—ideally during oyster or crab season. We look forward to staying again then.

A Great, Beginner-Friendly Accommodation
The seasonal meals were so delicious that it’s frustrating to be limited to a 5-point rating—I’d honestly give it a 10. There was a great variety of yukata and samue colors, and they were beautiful. The hot bath was incredibly relaxing. Even with a suitcase (large luggage), they helped carry it for us, which was a huge help. From welcome to farewell, the service was attentive and made us feel wonderful, so we’d love to stay again.

A retro Showa-era bu...
A retro Showa-era building. It’s old, but well kept and clean. The free-flowing Onsen from the source was excellent. If the public bath was available, we could use it for free, but the baths at this Ryokan were more than enough. The in-room bath also had free-flowing Onsen water, which was great, but the view wasn’t very good. Since the buildings are packed closely together, I guess that can’t be helped. The sashimi felt a bit lacking, but everything else was delicious. There aren’t any convenience stores nearby. I wanted to buy snacks to go with drinks in the Room.

I am always satisfied with the meals at Kuhei. I stayed for one night and flew in from Yokohama, and I would appreciate it if you could recommend a cuisine-focused Ryokan like Kuhei Ryokan in the Izu, Hakone, or Atami area.

Highly recommended for travelers seeking a culinary experience.
December is the season for snow crabs. Last year, I went to Ishikawa Prefecture on the opening day of the Kanou Crab season, but it was a miss... This year, determined to enjoy delicious crab at a reasonable price, I visited Kuhe Ryokan in Yutagawa Onsen, Yamagata. This accommodation was introduced by my wife's grandmother. Having visited twice before, I was impressed by how they turned ordinary ingredients into such exquisite dishes. The ryokan is also a member of "Ichino-Yado Club," an exclusive group recognized for exceptional cuisine. Curious about their "Crab Course," I decided to make a reservation with high expectations to taste Kuhe Ryokan's crab dishes. At dinner, what surprised me first was that although their official website only mentioned "snow crab," the served crab came with a tag indicating it as "Shonai Kitamae Crab." This new brand of snow crab refers exclusively to male crabs weighing over 700g and is known for its premium quality in both flavor and meat content. The course truly lived up to being “all about crabs.” It included grilled shell miso with crab meat, raw crab sashimi, steamed crab, grilled crab legs, minced-crab dumplings (shinjou), tempura-style fried crabs, hot pot with crabs (kani-nabe), and finally kani-zosui (crab porridge). Except for dessert—everything featured fresh snow crabs! While initially thinking “crab feels light,” we were pleasantly overwhelmed by generous portions throughout each dish; every bite reflected meticulous preparation showcasing culinary expertise. Particularly memorable was finishing off our meal via luxurious kani-zosui: loaded generously w/ chunks-of-meat simmered inside iron-pots filled-to-brim alongside rich broth infusion creating hearty-textured porridge leaving lasting impressions! Beyond food offerings themselves—their onsen facilities remain equally delightful featuring koi-fish tanks adorning public baths alongside charming rabbit figurines welcoming guests outdoors amidst private open-air soaking options available too! Crystal-clear natural spring water flows directly sourced providing soothing warmth rejuvenating deep relaxation experiences overall! While Fukui’s Bouyourou might offer grander luxury stays paired alongside branded-cuisine elsewhere instead uniquely combining Shonai-Kitamaekani × Kuhei-Ryokans’ craftsmanship delivers entirely different yet equally unforgettable sensations altogether here instead!! Surprisingly affordable under ¥50k/night inclusive breakfast maintaining consistent excellence across board meanwhile conveniently accessible within hour-flight Haneda-Airport followed short 25min drive thereafter making ideal destination purely centered around indulging finest-quality seafood journeys imaginable possible today!! Though exterior appears modest resembling single-family home upon arrival stepping inside reveals spacious clean interiors staffed attentive professionals ensuring seamless hospitality throughout stay itself ultimately leaving heartfelt wishes hoping places like these continue thriving long future ahead inspiring travelers worldwide seeking authentic culinary adventures alike!!

Each visit brings new delightful discoveries. A place where you truly feel cared for and genuinely healed. The meals are worth visiting for on their own. The attentive yet unobtrusive service is truly comforting.

Girls' gathering with my mother and sister (Grandma's party)
We used the accommodation for a ladies' gathering to celebrate my mother's 88th birthday. The room, bath, and meals were all excellent, making it a truly satisfying event for everyone! The maisonette-type room had two massage chairs on the first floor with underfloor heating, creating a warm and cozy space where we could relax and chat while enjoying the massage. The second-floor Japanese-style room was perfect for unwinding. Having two toilets—one on each floor—was very convenient. The private bath with natural hot spring water in the room was amazing. Even my mother, who usually finds baths troublesome, enjoyed it so much that she bathed three times and was thrilled by how pleasant it was! The dining area was a private room located just a short walk from our accommodation. We could enjoy our meal at leisure. Every dish was meticulously prepared and delicious. Although we chose a plan with smaller portions, there was more than enough food for us to feel completely satisfied! The staff serving us were also incredibly kind. This is the best accommodation we've ever stayed at! My mother couldn't stop talking about how wonderful it was and said she wants to visit again. We'll be back next year. One small thing—the sliding door of the toilet on the second floor made some squeaky noises that bothered us slightly. If that could be fixed, this place would score an absolute 100 out of 100!

A Relaxing Accommodation
I had been interested in this accommodation due to its high reviews, but since it is far away and I prefer not to travel by plane, I hadn't had the chance to visit. This time, I was able to make it happen with a two-night plan on the Japan Sea side of Yamagata. I stayed here on the first night. The highlight was definitely the "meals." They were amazing. While many places try to impress with lavish appearances and numerous dishes, each dish here was carefully crafted. You could truly feel the passion and love for cooking from the head chef and all kitchen staff. The food was delicious! Thank you very much. As someone who travels around trying various cuisines, I can say they are highly skilled chefs. The food was so good that I ended up overeating and felt uncomfortably full at night (laughs). The staff's service was also excellent—not just following a manual but moving cheerfully and efficiently with thoughtful attention to detail. As for the accommodation itself, being wooden-structured means sound does carry somewhat, which is unavoidable; however, everything was clean and well-maintained, making my stay very pleasant. Personally, I appreciated that amenities were kept minimal—no need for unnecessary expenses in such areas. Thank you as well for welcoming solo travelers like me. Such delicious meals combined with warm hospitality, comfortable rooms, and wonderful onsen—all of this at such an affordable price reflects your hard work and dedication. Although it's a small onsen town, I'd like to continue supporting it so that it never fades away. Wishing more vitality for regional areas...

Completely satisfied.
We were warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived. The room had a calm and relaxing atmosphere, making it feel just like home. Both dinner and breakfast were incredibly delicious, and I was delighted to see my usually light-eating friend enjoy the meals thoroughly. The bath was a natural hot spring with soft water, offering an exceptional experience. This is an accommodation that makes you want to return again. Five-star hospitality!

Difference in basic plans?
I was attracted by the dishes on the official website and made a reservation for the basic plan, but the number of items and menu were different. I was looking forward to the food, so I was disappointed. Did I make a mistake in my reservation?

We were looking for ...
We were looking for an accommodation with two separate rooms as we were traveling with two families, so the maisonette type was perfect. The meals were very delicious. The bath was also great, and we used it multiple times, including the bath in the room. We would love to stay again if we have the chance.

Delicious cuisine Onsen
Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, as many have mentioned. The highlight seemed to be the Onsen hopping, but since my mother is elderly, we skipped that part. One thing to note: the lights in the Onsen changing room were automatic. This time it was fine because there were others with me, but usually, I visit the Onsen with my husband. If I were alone in the women's bath and the lights went out at night, I think it would be too scary to enter.

Excellent dining experience as expected
This was my second stay at the accommodation. The first time, I stayed here when visiting the Dewa Sanzan Shrine during the Year of the Ox. At that time, I had no prior information about this accommodation, but the food was so delicious and exceptional that I decided to stay again this time to enjoy the meals. The room was impeccably clean, and this time a Dyson air purifier fan was installed in the room, which impressed me greatly. The meals exceeded my expectations: - Tsuruoka specialty sesame tofu with sauce - Deep-fried Gaza shrimp (a rare delicacy not widely distributed in other regions due to its perishability) - Japanese-style corn mousse - Grilled sea bream chazuke It was truly a blissful experience. From hospitality and facilities to onsen and meals, I could feel the warm welcome from everyone at this ryokan. It was a wonderful and happy time spent here.

Despite having to change most of the dishes due to a member with a soy allergy, the attentive service and delicious food made our family trip truly enjoyable. Thank you very much. Accommodation with Delicious Cuisine
We stayed here after visiting the Domon Ken Photography Museum in Sakata City. The accommodation offers creative and delicious cuisine. Since I don't drink, dishes were served one after another, and within 30 minutes of starting, I was asked, "Shall we serve the rice (grilled sea bream chazuke)?" which surprised me. I had to ask them to wait. The grilled sea bream chazuke and the separately ordered rock oysters were exquisite. The room's bath was an indoor bath. While there are buildings and roads nearby that might concern female guests, opening the window let in a pleasant breeze for a comfortable bathing experience. Although the sliding paper doors didn't close properly, an air purifier was provided to ensure a comfortable indoor environment.

Enjoy delicious cuisine and relax in the Onsen.
Yutagawa Onsen is a small onsen town with convenient access from Shonai Airport, making it a great choice for the first night of a Yamagata trip. This accommodation is famous for its cuisine, and as expected, both dinner and breakfast were exceptionally delicious. We booked the smaller meal plan, but the portion size was just right. However, the rock oysters we ordered separately lacked freshness and were disappointing. The room was a maisonette-style room with a Japanese-style living area on the first floor and a bedroom with built-in mattresses on the second floor. While there were toilets and refrigerators on both floors, there was only one sink located on the second floor. This made it inconvenient to go upstairs just to wash hands after returning to the room from outside. The private bath in our room used onsen water, and there was also an exclusive private bath right in front of our room that was always available whenever we wanted to use it—this was very enjoyable as we could bathe multiple times at our convenience. One minor downside might be that the parking lot is located slightly away from the accommodation; however, since it wasn’t raining during our stay, this didn’t cause any issues for us.

Everything is just the right comfort. A must-visit accommodation to return to.
Onsen: I prefer lukewarm baths, and every Onsen was just perfect. The hot spring hopping was also enjoyable. Meals: Everything was absolutely delicious, especially the homemade sesame dressing and tartar sauce. The red pepper ice cream was also amazing! Room: We stayed in a maisonette room, and I was surprised to find toilets on both the first and second floors. The private bath in the room was great too! Others: I was amazed by the delicious Yamagata juice served as a welcome drink. Morning coffee served in beautiful cups made me happy as well.

A wonderful accommodation worth repeating
The room had an Onsen bath, which was spacious and very relaxing. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious and highly satisfying. The fava bean mousse served at dinner was exquisite. Two types of delightful desserts were offered for both dinner and breakfast. Breakfast included a wide variety of fresh vegetables, which were plentiful and delicious. This was especially appreciated as it helped balance the lack of vegetables during travel. All the staff members were very pleasant, and their excellent training was evident. I would love to visit again!

It was our first visit in two years. This is our favorite accommodation. As always, the warm hospitality, spotless facility, relaxing onsen, and above all, the incredibly delicious meals were exceptional. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and served in just the right portions to fully enjoy every flavor—leaving us completely satisfied. It was a very satisfying stay. The staff were all friendly and attentive. The onsen was very clean with pleasant water, and I also enjoyed visiting the sister facility's baths.
