    It was a wonderful Accommodation.

    The stonework used on the lobby walls felt substantial and refined, creating a wonderful atmosphere. The Room was clean and beautifully furnished. The bathroom area was also thoroughly cleaned, so I could stay very comfortably. The Onsen had many different types, which was a lot of fun. After checkout, I left my luggage at the front desk and took a walk around Shoin Shrine. Since it was midsummer, when I returned to the Hotel—probably because I was sweating—the staff kindly offered me a drink (sorry for the trouble). I truly appreciated it.

    The title “A Hot Spring Source Accommodation” is no exaggeration.

    After sightseeing at Kintaikyo Bridge in Iwakuni, we traveled the Hagi–Tsuwano route and chose “Hagi Honjin” as our Accommodation for the second night. The large public bath facilities are exceptionally well equipped. The open-air bath area includes a standing bath, a lying-down bath, a jacuzzi, a sauna, a cold-water bath, and a footbath, along with covered outdoor tubs—plus a spacious open-air bath in the center with an unobstructed view of the sky above. My wife had never been very fond of Onsen trips before—she often felt uneasy because the women’s baths can get crowded and sometimes groups chat right next to you—but here she was able to enjoy multiple baths all by herself and seemed truly relaxed. Since we had dinner at a long-established traditional restaurant, we only had the buffet-style breakfast the next morning; however, both the portions and variety were more than satisfactory. It was also nice to see the chef continuously preparing egg dishes right in front of us. Next time, we would definitely like to book dinner as well.

    Regarding your request.

    I travel often. This time, I enjoyed looking for a Hotel for my long-awaited trip to Hagi, but this is what happened at Hagi Honjin. After putting on makeup, I left the Room and checked out, then got on the Shuttle Service bus to the bus stop. While on board, I realized I had forgotten my pouch containing all of my makeup items, so I called immediately and asked them to search the Room, but they insisted it was not there. Even the supervisor came out and told me that no matter how much they looked, they could not find it—despite the fact that it seems likely it was mixed in during cleaning. What I am certain of is that I never took that pouch out of the Room even once. Because of their insincere response, I decided that I never want to stay at this Accommodation again, and I have told my friends as well as many acquaintances about what happened. Where did it disappear to?

    The building is modern, but the service has a nostalgic, old-fashioned feel. The baths were excellent, and the food was delicious. A large-scale Hotel that represents Hagi.

    I stayed one night in a special Room. It was a little disappointing that the bath in the Room was not an Onsen, but it was easy to fill, and the tub was spacious so I could relax and enjoy it. The view from the Room was also great. The amenities and the quality of the bed and pillows were more than sufficient. Also, the staff were wonderful. At dinner, the timing of each dish being served was perfect, and the explanations were polite and easy to understand (my stomach wasn’t feeling great, so I ended up leaving some food—this wasn’t because it tasted bad; I’m sorry). The locally sourced seafood and vegetables were especially delicious. When I checked out and left, I was truly touched that several staff members stood outside waving goodbye with smiles (even though it was hot). Thank you very much.

    A blend of renewal and tradition

    Perched in a commanding location overlooking the town of Hagi, it has a strong presence. The meal was an abundant, all-fugu feast that we could fully enjoy, but it was disappointing because the ingredients felt like they had been thawed. One request: please remove the scale-like buildup on the mirror in the bath, as it is hard to see. Also, I felt it would be better to use an aroma diffuser or incense in the Room hallway.

    This Accommodation offers courteous service.

    We came on foot. The walk up to the entrance was uphill, but we were upgraded to a spacious, newly renovated and very functional Room, which made our stay comfortable. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious, and there were many different types of baths, which we really enjoyed. This is an Accommodation we plan to visit again.

    Garden Bath and Fugu Sashimi

    Thank you for your hospitality. The 30 slices of fugu sashimi at dinner were impressive and delicious, and we truly enjoyed the full range of fugu dishes, including fried fugu and fugu hot pot. Everyone at the Hotel was kind and helpful, making our stay very comfortable. At breakfast, we were able to enjoy freshly cooked, piping-hot fried fugu and skewered fried items, and our whole family agreed how delicious everything was. There are various baths, including a garden-style bath, which we really enjoyed. We would love to come back and use them again at a more relaxed pace. Shoin Shrine is also close to the Hotel, so you can enjoy a bit of sightseeing as well.

    The meals focused on seafood, and the simmered sea bream head was especially delicious. The bath was spacious and relaxing, and we were very satisfied.

    The meals were absolutely delicious.

    The parking attendant who greeted us on arrival and saw us off at departure was very warm and welcoming, which made our stay truly pleasant. All the other staff were also very kind to us. The meals were delicious (both dinner and breakfast). The bath and the Room were flawless—an excellent Accommodation. Thank you very much.

    It was amazing!

    The warm smiles from the gentleman and lady who welcomed us were wonderful! The top-floor corner suite with a panoramic-view bath was amazing—great views and an open, spacious feel! The lady who explained the Room to us was also so kind and welcoming! We were thrilled with the full torafugu course: a huge platter of tessa, tecchiri hot pot, and sake with grilled fugu fin—absolutely satisfying! Breakfast was just the right selection, and everything was delicious! We’d love to come back again with the whole family. Thank you so much to all the staff!

    A man who visited during an unusually warm January.

    I visited Hagi City in Yamaguchi Prefecture for the first time and stayed at Hagi Honjin, a Ryokan located in Hagi Onsen. The hospitality and facilities were top-notch. However, there was one issue. There seemed to be no trash bin inside the shower booths of the large public bath (or perhaps I missed it?), so I had to go back to the dressing room to dispose of used amenities like razors, which was a bit inconvenient. Other than that, no complaints at all. Thank you!

    Tiger Pufferfish

    We enjoyed delicious fugu sashimi and relaxed in the Onsen. It was a delightful stay, freeing us from daily work and stress. The torafugu was, of course, excellent, but the breakfast buffet was more satisfying than ever, especially the bakery section.

    I usually don't post reviews, but the value for money here was so impressive that I had to share. For our onsen trips, we typically stay two nights—choosing a modest place for the first night and a famous ryokan for the second. This time, we selected this place for our first night without high expectations, but the torafugu kaiseki meal exceeded them—it was delicious and comparable to just the cost of a meal in Tokyo! The bath's water quality might feel average to those from Kanto, but its layout surrounding a garden with separate sections made it very relaxing. This thoughtful design was excellent. Perhaps because there were fewer groups during our visit, it felt even more peaceful and enjoyable. The room was minimal yet cleanly renovated and comfortable. However, the welcome drink being from a mediocre vending machine felt like a missed opportunity—it might be better to offer something simple yet higher quality like good tea instead (though I understand it's about balancing costs). Overall, their effort as an establishment and great value overshadowed even our second night's stay at a certain famous ryokan! Thank you very much!

    Both the meals and the Onsen are highly rated.

    This was my first visit. As mentioned in other reviews, both the meals and the onsen were highly satisfying. I stayed with my family, and everyone was pleased. However, I would like to point out a few concerns: The outdoor pathway leading to the onsen had dim lighting, making it difficult to see small steps. This felt dangerous for my elderly parents, and unfortunately, my mother tripped and got injured (as my wife was unavailable to accompany her in the women's bath). While I understand that preserving the ambiance of the onsen facility is important and adjustments may be challenging, I hope some measures can be taken. Another suggestion would be extending breakfast hours slightly for added convenience. The facility itself showed some age but was well-maintained with thorough cleaning, ensuring cleanliness throughout. Overall, I am very satisfied with our stay. I hope to visit again in the future.     The massage is excellent.

    The massage was excellent. My spouse and I often use such services, and this was undoubtedly the best treatment we've experienced. My wife shares the same opinion. We would love to return if given the chance. Unfortunately, the meals were not at a top-tier level. While the appetizer was good, the meat was overly tough and not enjoyable. We had hoped for exceptional cuisine but were disappointed. As for the baths, there were many in number but lacked uniqueness, which left us unimpressed.

    Family Trip

    Found through an internet search for highly-rated accommodations in Hagi, this Ryokan met all our expectations. The room featured an Onsen and was a Japanese-Western style room with a great view of Hagi's townscape. We decided on our travel dates to stay at "Shiori," which perfectly matched all our criteria. The room was as wonderful as the reviews described, allowing us to relax and enjoy the Onsen at leisure. Given the season, we had requested a fugu course meal, and every dish was incredibly delicious, making it an unforgettable dining experience. The hospitality at this accommodation was exceptional—from the warm welcome upon arrival to being guided to our room, attentive service during meals, and even thoughtful gestures during departure. They showed great care for my family's health needs with detailed attention and kind words throughout our stay. Having visited many Ryokans before, I must say that their outstanding service left a lasting impression on us. It truly became a memorable trip. Thank you very much!

    I was looking forward to this stay as it was recommended by a friend, but I was disappointed. The room location was convenient, right in front of the elevator. Also, the male staff at the front desk handled everything efficiently and pleasantly. However, the towels in the public bath were terrible. Unlike other accommodations where disposable ones are used, they seemed reused here, and there were no bath towels provided in the changing area. The hotel slippers were made of cheap vinyl like those used in old ryokans from decades ago. At least for higher-priced rooms, it would have been better to provide different slippers to avoid mix-ups. It’s nice that the bath opens at 5 AM, but closing at 9:30 AM feels too early. Since I had a multiple night stay, I wanted to relax after breakfast but couldn’t because cleaning started after 9 AM. The coffee maker near the front desk has very limited operating hours. While it’s fine for juice to have time restrictions, coffee should be available more freely. Breakfast was a buffet from 7 AM to 9 AM. They thoughtfully reserved a seat for me at the farthest corner; however, it felt too far away. With so many guest rooms available, splitting breakfast times into slots like 7 AM and 8 AM would help reduce long lines—but that wasn’t implemented here. It reminded me of staying at a crowded ryokan during peak season. *Also noticed dust on beams in the changing area.*

    The staff at the front desk, shop, and dining area provided heartwarming service, leaving both my parents extremely satisfied. The baths offered various Onsen options, and my skin felt great the next day. It was a Ryokan I would love to visit again.

    I had a relaxing time.

    I had a very relaxing stay for two nights. Although it was a bit disappointing that dinner was not served in the Room, I still enjoyed the delicious meal. Thank you very much. It would be appreciated if the bathroom in the Room had handrails and steps to eliminate the height difference into the bathtub, but unfortunately, these were not installed.
