    We had a relaxing stay.

    We stayed for one night as a family of three to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Due to work, we made a last-minute Reservation in a hurry, but we were able to relax and enjoy our time. The Facility felt a bit old, but it was clean and made us feel at ease. Above all, we truly felt the hospitality of all the staff. Dinner left us completely satisfied, and when we wondered, “Will we have room for dessert?”, they kindly prepared takeout so we could bring the dessert back to our Room and enjoy it there. At breakfast, even when we simply moved our plates to the edge of the table, they took the time to say “Thank you,” and their thoughtful attention to small details was very comforting. Thank you for a wonderful time.

    This was the most impressive experience I’ve had in a long time!

    Both the entrance and our Room were spotless, the meals (and sweets) were delicious, the Onsen was wonderfully relaxing, and all of the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming—we were truly moved. The dining area also had plenty of space between each group, so our child was able to focus on eating quietly. In addition, you provided activities inside the Hotel such as a puzzle-solving game (the adults got seriously into it too!) and a cardboard maze… When we checked our answers for the puzzle, the front desk staff assisted us very kindly, and our child was absolutely delighted. I don’t usually post a Review, but I was so impressed that I wanted to write one this time. We travel to Matsumoto every summer, so we hope to stay with you again next year. Thank you very much.

    It was conveniently located with easy access from the city.

    Near the end of dinner, we could see fireworks from the dining hall, and even after returning to our Room, we enjoyed them for about 30 minutes. Grateful for our good luck.

    We would appreciate it if you could improve the amenities.

    Because the Accommodation is located away from the station, it was extremely helpful that our luggage could be stored at a partner Hotel near the station regardless of check-in/check-out time, and then sent ahead to the Hotel. It’s a wonderful service because we could go sightseeing and out for meals without worrying about our bags. The Hotel is old, but it is kept clean. However, I was slightly bothered by odors in the Room toilet and living area. The view was outstanding—I’m glad we didn’t choose a Hotel near the station. The bath was also spacious! I wish the observation bath would alternate men’s/women’s hours depending on the day; I think that would make a Multiple Night Stay more enjoyable. Amenities were limited and felt somewhat low quality. Even considering the room rate, I’d like them to improve a bit more. The meals were filling enough, but breakfast buffet had many mass-produced side dishes. We had a Multiple Night Stay, but it was exactly the same each day. The proprietress’s smile was wonderful and left a lasting impression on me.

    Satisfied.

    Stayed for two nights and three days. The welcome drink was a nice touch. The Room is old but clean, and we were able to relax comfortably. We were satisfied with the meals on both the first and second days; personally, we preferred the second day’s meal. The breakfast buffet was also quite good. The baths were excellent—both the washing area and the tub were spacious. The open-air bath was at just the right temperature, so you could stay in for ages. We especially appreciated the luggage service: if you leave your bags at an affiliated Hotel near the station, they deliver them to this Hotel, and on departure they send them back to the affiliated Hotel, making sightseeing much easier without heavy luggage.

    I stayed here while sightseeing in Kamikochi.

    We arrived well before the check-in time, but thank you for letting us in early—it was a huge help since we had an early morning. This Hotel offers outstanding hospitality, and we were very satisfied. We would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much!

    It was a good Hotel.

    The Room was new and comfortable, with a wonderful view overlooking Matsumoto city from the window and mountains visible in the distance. The meals were delicious, and the dining area was spacious and satisfying. The Shuttle Service bus and luggage delivery service were also much appreciated.

    I stayed for one nig...

    I stayed for one night in June. I was in a top-floor Room with an indoor bath and an outside view. Dinner offered a wide variety of dishes, but they were brought out one after another so that it would be finished in just over an hour, which didn’t allow us to enjoy the meal at a relaxed pace. Breakfast was buffet-style, but it was the first time I’ve seen a place with so few options. The large public bath was very good.

    It was comfortable.

    This was our second visit, and we were warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived. All the staff were very pleasant, and we appreciated the welcome drink. The meal was excellent—the sashimi was fresh, and the original tomato hot pot was outstanding. The Shinshu beef was delicious as well. The only disappointments were that the kettle in the Room smelled strongly of chlorine and wasn’t drinkable, and there were no slippers provided. Even so, it’s an Accommodation we would like to visit again.

    Although it is a lar...

    Although it is a large-scale Hotel, it is beautifully decorated from the entrance. The Room is spacious and comfortable for relaxing. Meals are served in the restaurant, and the relaxed atmosphere allows you to dine at a leisurely pace. There is an open-air bath, with separate times for men and women, so you can enjoy it. Personally, I recommend the scenic open-air bath. Amenities include everything you need. Unfortunately, it was rainy, but we were still able to see Matsumoto Castle from the Room.

    It was raining heavily.

    I was looking forward to the view, but it rained heavily. I’m sure the mountain range would be beautiful on a clear day. The late-night tonkotsu ramen was surprisingly delicious, which was a pleasant surprise. The bath was very relaxing.

    A slightly luxurious Onsen experience you can enjoy without hesitation, even with children.

    We stayed here in April 2026 as a family of three (a couple and our upper-elementary-school daughter). I’m writing an honest Review in the hope it helps anyone looking for an Onsen Accommodation where families can stay with peace of mind. In short, we were extremely satisfied overall. The three highlights were the “in-room open-air bath,” “private-room dinner,” and “thoughtful staff,” which made our family trip truly stress-free. ■ What we liked First, we stayed in a Japanese-Western style room with an open-air bath, and it felt very spacious and comfortable even for three people. Having a separate living area was also great—we could relax as a couple after our child fell asleep. On clear days, we could see the Alps from both the room and the large public bath, which was genuinely moving. The Onsen experience is another major draw: you can enjoy both the in-room open-air bath and the panoramic bath. Being able to use the in-room bath anytime without worrying about schedules is especially helpful when traveling with children. The view from the panoramic bath was also wonderful, and we particularly recommend bathing in the morning. Dinner was a kaiseki course centered around Shinshu beef, and both quality and portion size exceeded expectations. We were shown to a private room this time, so we could enjoy our meal together without worrying about others—something we really appreciated. The breakfast buffet also had a wide selection, and our child enjoyed it too. The staff were consistently polite and attentive; their small touches—such as helping with luggage guidance and checking on bedding—raised our overall satisfaction throughout the stay. ■ Points to note - The views from both rooms and the large public bath depend on weather; if conditions are poor, some of the appeal may be reduced. - The panoramic bath operates on a men/women rotation schedule, so views vary by time slot. - Dinner portions are quite generous; it may feel like too much for light eaters or children. - Dining is not always guaranteed to be in a private room; if you have preferences, it’s best to consult in advance. - Parts of the road leading to the Accommodation are somewhat narrow; if you’re not confident driving, arriving before dark is recommended. ■ Overall This Accommodation is highly recommended for anyone planning a “slightly luxurious family Onsen trip.” With an in-room open-air bath plus dining options that can include private rooms, there were fewer situations where we had to worry about inconveniencing others—and we were able to spend truly relaxing time together. While pricing is on the higher side, we felt it fully matched what you receive. It would also be perfect for anniversaries or special family trips.

    Excellent views, hospitality, and service.

    Everything is excellent, including the snowy Northern Alps views from each Room, the wide selection of welcome drinks, the hot spring water volume and Facility, the meals, and the service. It’s a little disappointing that because the men’s and women’s baths switch between evening and the next morning, there is only one bath for men in the evening and only one for women in the morning, but physically it can’t be helped. The breakfast area is divided into separate sections, so you can relax comfortably.

    Despite the bad weather, the views were amazing.

    I stayed here four years ago and had a great experience, so I came back. Even from the Standard Room, the view of the snow-covered Hotaka mountain range is wonderful. This time we could only see it through breaks in the clouds in the morning. There is a panoramic photo by the window explaining the scenery, but it is far too old, and it shows a view quite far to the right rather than straight ahead from the Room, so please be aware. It’s nice to be able to enjoy draft beer and soft drinks in the lounge. At breakfast buffet, we were seated at a table for two. Although there was a partition between us and the next table, there was a gap so we could clearly hear their conversation. I would like you to place tables farther apart from the partitions. Unfortunately, this time there were small children running around like at a sports day and shouting loudly. The Onsen was great with both lukewarm and hot baths, and it was also nice that hand towels were provided in the bathing area.

    I’m very satisfied!

    We stayed here as a couple in February and loved it, so this time we invited my wife’s family. They were truly delighted, and we are very satisfied. There are many Onsen Ryokan in Nagano, but at this price range, I believe this one is definitely the best.

    I was very satisfied.

    We stayed in a Room with a private bath. The Room was very spacious, and both the interior and the bath were clean and beautiful, making it easy to relax and unwind. The amenities were well stocked, so we felt right at home. The bath was also large and comfortable, and the provided hair dryer, shampoo, and other items were high quality. The staff were very courteous as well, which made our stay pleasant—we were very satisfied. Personally, it was the best Accommodation I have stayed at so far. I would love to stay again. Thank you.

    Friendly service with a smile

    The staff, including interns from Mongolia, were well trained, and even the housekeeping team greeted us with a smile, making our stay very pleasant. The meals were delicious and we were very satisfied. While it was a bit disappointing that the bathroom facilities felt somewhat dated, it was a Ryokan we would like to stay at again.

    It was very relaxing.

    It was our first trip to Matsumoto, and we’re glad we stayed at Shouhou. Above all, all the staff were very kind. It became a wonderful coming-of-age celebration trip for our daughter. We’re already talking about staying again in summer.

    I was completely satisfied with everything—the room, the hospitality and service, the Onsen, and the meals. In particular, the impressive large public bath and the views of the Northern Alps were outstanding. Next time my friends have a chance to visit Matsumoto, I would definitely recommend it.

    The staff provided excellent service, and the bath was spacious and enjoyable. The night view was also beautiful. It was convenient to leave our luggage at the partner hotel near Matsumoto Station, and the shuttle service was great. However, since only Japanese-style rooms were available, we stayed in one of those, but the toilet in the room had a noticeable odor, possibly from the pipes. Honestly, it made us reluctant to use it, which was disappointing. The outdoor footbath had a very low temperature and felt cold enough to risk catching a cold; raising the temperature slightly would be better. Next time, I hope to stay in one of the renovated rooms if they are available.

    Wonderful Accommodation @ Matsumoto - Shoho is the Best Choice!

    As the review title suggests, it was truly amazing! The service, facilities, and the staff's polite and kind hospitality were exceptional! Both dinner and breakfast were incredibly delicious! We were able to celebrate a wonderful anniversary here. This hotel, Shouhou, deserves a Michelin key—it was that outstanding! The proprietress provided attentive and thoughtful service, the dinner staff was meticulous, and the male staff at check-in and check-out were also fantastic. Thank you so much! For those considering this accommodation—there’s no need to hesitate! This is undoubtedly Matsumoto's No.1 accommodation you must visit at least once!!!!!!!

    Family Trip

    I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay with my daughter in a room with a semi-open-air bath. The room was clean and had an excellent view. The temperature of the open-air bath was just right, and being able to fully open the windows to create a semi-open-air experience was fantastic. The Hotel staff were very polite and left a great impression, and the food was absolutely delicious. Since it was a Multiple Night Stay, they adjusted the dinner menu on the second night so it wouldn't overlap with the first night, which I found very thoughtful. Additionally, arranging lunch for guests staying multiple nights is an excellent service. We enjoyed indulging in luxury by doing nothing but relaxing at this Accommodation. It became an unforgettable trip filled with wonderful memories. I would love to visit again!

    I was very excited as I had wanted to stay here for a long time. With the special setting that included a capsule toy, we won access to a private bath right from the start, which made us so happy. The meals were delicious, with tender pork and beef that were incredibly tasty. We were provided with an upgraded Room, and the view from the window was stunning! After enjoying the private bath, we went to the large public bath after dinner and had a relaxing time. Breakfast was a buffet, and it was very satisfying. The farewell send-off upon departure made us feel truly appreciated. It turned out to be an absolutely wonderful trip. Thank you so much!

    This Onsen destination offers excellent access to Zenkoji Temple and Matsumoto Castle. The view from the room was stunning, and the meticulously maintained hotel was spotless throughout. The meals, crafted with local ingredients, were exceptionally satisfying, made even better by the clear explanations provided by the staff. When my family used the shop, they were impressed by how carefully each item's expiration date was checked—a story they continue to share fondly even after returning home.     The night view is beautiful.

    Located on a hill, the hotel offers a beautiful view of Matsumoto City and stunning nightscapes. The large public bath was spacious and relaxing, though the gentle uphill walk to reach it was a bit challenging for my elderly parents. The welcome service included a drink bar with beer and soft-serve ice cream, which we thoroughly enjoyed. However, upon departure, while using a cart to carry our luggage, staff assistance led to some mishaps—bumping the cart into the car and dropping bags off the cart. Unfortunately, there was no follow-up to check if our belongings were okay. While most of our stay was enjoyable, this left us with an unpleasant final impression.

    Family Trip

    Stayed in Azumino for Matsumoto sightseeing. Unfortunately, the weather was not great, so we couldn't enjoy the view of the Shinshu mountains from our room, which was disappointing. However, the food and onsen were excellent, allowing us to relax and feel satisfied with this accommodation. My elderly mother was especially pleased, which made me happy. Thank you very much!
