    A comfortable and relaxing Hotel

    I stayed here while visiting relatives in Matsumoto. This is my second stay this year, and I really enjoy this Hotel for its relaxing Onsen. The service has improved with the addition of craft beer to the self-serve free drink options, which can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the Alps—absolutely perfect. The Room is spacious, clean, and provides just the right level of comfort. I originally wanted to try the newly introduced ramen, but I had plans with my relatives in the evening and couldn’t have it. I’ll definitely try it next time!

    Comfortable Onsen Accommodation

    A very comfortable Onsen accommodation. The water quality had no sulfur smell, providing gentle warmth, truly befitting an Onsen area with a history dating back to the Nara period. The meals were delicious, and the staff were extremely polite and kind. Thank you very much; I look forward to visiting again.

    Everyone's Smiles

    Thank you to the welcoming staff, front desk, dining area team, and cleaning staff for your bright smiles. The Room and facilities were clean and well-maintained, allowing us to relax comfortably. I would love to stay here again when visiting Nagano Prefecture. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious.

    Not cost-effective.

    No luggage assistance. Upon entering the room, there was a distinct smell of an old guest room. The meal quality was quite poor considering the price. For those staying at this accommodation, it is recommended to choose the cheapest room available. That way, you might not regret your stay. However, the staff serving us were friendly and provided attentive service.

    Wonderful Hospitality

    We stayed here for my mother's birthday. Since Matsumoto is her hometown, she had stayed here a few times in the past, but she was delighted with the renewal—both the Onsen and meals were wonderful, making it a memorable stay. During dinner, H-san took care of us with a lovely smile throughout and explained each dish so well that it made the delicious meal even more enjoyable. I was surprised to see my mother, who has been eating less lately, happily finishing almost everything while saying how delicious it was. She was also deeply touched by the unexpected handwritten birthday card she received. Thank you so much for everything. We would love to visit again in another season, not just for birthdays!

    Family Trips That Delight Both Adults and Children

    A taxi ride through the mountains brought us to the Hotel. Excited by its classical exterior, we headed to the entrance. The floor exuded a quiet sense of luxury with a clean and simple atmosphere, not overly ornate. The welcome drink was soft-serve ice cream, and benches overlooking the courtyard view thrilled our children. We noticed crickets chirping near the footbath and went on a little adventure to find them together. In the morning, we discovered a cricket cage at the entrance, which delighted our children once again. The shop was well-stocked, but there were also plenty of activities like jazz live performances and late-night ramen to enjoy. Next time, we plan to stay for two nights so we can also indulge in some shopping. Our Room was clean and well-maintained despite being used over time; it felt like both guests and staff treated it with care. The clear mountain air paired with stunning mountaintop views made for an unforgettable experience. Personally, I loved the cabinet holding glasses and the full-length mirror hidden behind a wooden panel. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious; our kids especially enjoyed eating lots at the Japanese-style breakfast buffet in the morning—it was such a relief for us as parents. Although it was just one night’s stay, we had an incredibly satisfying trip! We look forward to returning as repeat guests in future visits—thank you very much!

    The Worst Sleep Deprivation

    On the day, there was a lively gathering of tennis-related individuals. While it was nice to enjoy meals in everyone's Room, the noise from gatherings in the Room continued until around 1:30 AM when I had to call the front desk, resulting in terrible sleep deprivation. At checkout, there was no apology from the front desk, making it truly the worst trip ever.

    Comprehensive services unique to a large, popular Hotel!

    We stayed here to relax our tired bodies after a mountain climbing trip. As soon as we approached the entrance by car, the staff warmly welcomed us, and I immediately felt this was an excellent hotel with great service. The lobby was bustling with many guests, but the check-in process was smooth, and services like welcome drinks were well-prepared. Our room was a standard one but had been modernly renovated. It offered ample space and a beautiful view from large windows, even under cloudy skies. The bathroom showed some signs of wear but had a spacious individual sink area that made it comfortable to use. As this is a large-scale hotel accommodating many group guests, I initially worried about crowded baths. However, the public bath was very spacious with plenty of washing areas and thoughtful designs for privacy—truly impressive! The garden open-air bath with its flowing hot spring water was especially relaxing. The next morning, we used the private garden bath; though compact in size, it had a lovely atmosphere. One minor disappointment was finding lots of hair floating in the jacuzzi at the observation bath—it prevented us from using it. It seemed like bad timing for cleaning rather than an issue with maintenance itself; however, having nets available for self-cleaning could have helped. While this might be more about guest manners than hotel management's fault (as there were groups using it), I found it surprising since I'd never experienced such an issue before. Regarding meals: dishes featuring high-quality ingredients were abundant and satisfying overall—though portions felt slightly large for us! Breakfast buffet options were incredibly diverse with excellent freshness levels and timely replenishments—the best we've ever experienced! We also enjoyed live jazz music performed in the lobby at night—a delightful surprise! All staff members were courteous and attentive throughout our stay. When asking about nearby sightseeing spots during checkout time—they kindly made phone calls on our behalf to provide detailed information. While my spouse and I usually prefer smaller hidden accommodations offering intimate experiences—we realized how exceptional facilities & services unique to larger hotels can be! We’d love to return someday as part of a group visit with family or friends!

    Traditional and Charming Accommodation

    The Ryokan and room had an old-fashioned charm but were very clean, allowing for a comfortable stay. Dinner was the children's first experience with kaiseki cuisine; while there were some dishes they couldn't eat due to personal preferences, overall, it was delicious. The Onsen was also very enjoyable and relaxing. One downside was the futon bedding, which was extremely thin and felt like "senbei futon." Adding a mattress would have made sleeping much more comfortable. For those accustomed to beds, the thin futons can be quite challenging, and I woke up feeling stiff the next day. Unfortunately, rooms with beds were fully booked at the time of our reservation, so we had no choice but to opt for a futon room. That said, we arrived about an hour earlier than planned but were warmly accommodated with early access to our room—an excellent level of service!

    It is a very nice accommodation.

    The hotel near Matsumoto Station kindly stored our luggage and provided a shuttle service to the hotel by bus. It was truly appreciated. Since no reservation for the bus was needed, we were able to take the 5 PM shuttle without any rush. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were delighted to enjoy complimentary drinks and ice cream. We enjoyed them on a terrace with a beautiful view, which made us very happy. The soothing sound of crickets at the front desk was incredibly relaxing. The accommodation was impeccably clean, making it very comfortable, and dinner was delicious and satisfying. The bath area was spacious and well-equipped with shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and more—very convenient! All of the staff members were friendly and welcoming; it truly felt like a wonderful accommodation. This trip turned out to be an enjoyable and memorable experience for us. Thank you so much!

    Thank you very much.

    We visited to celebrate my husband's birthday. The heartfelt celebration was very impressive, and we had a wonderful time. Dinner was plentiful, and when we were full, they kindly suggested taking the dessert back to our Room. Thanks to that, we enjoyed it leisurely in our Room. The gender-swapped large public bath was excellent. The Room was clean and comfortable for a pleasant stay. Thank you for the warm hospitality from arrival to departure!

    It was a wonderful accommodation! The view, onsen, and meals were all excellent, but what impressed me the most was how every staff member greeted us with a smile and provided attentive service. We also enjoyed the welcome drink, and our child loved the summer event balloons. The non-woven fabric bag provided for trips to the bath was very convenient, and these thoughtful services made our stay even more delightful. Thank you very much!

    Luxurious and attentive service

    The accommodation exceeded expectations. The room and the private open-air bath were very comfortable, and the view was enjoyable. The semi-open-air bath of "Utsukushi no Yu" was also fantastic, with both the scenery and the water being exceptional. The meals were gentle on the stomach and absolutely delicious, especially the Ise lobster sashimi, which was outstanding. We paired it with a sake tasting experience for an even more delightful time. On our return shuttle service, they kindly stored our luggage at Matsumoto Station and dropped us off near Matsumoto Castle, providing impeccable service that saved time and allowed us to enjoy sightseeing without any luggage concerns. I would love to visit again!

    A splendid Ryokan with excellent and attentive service. The spaces are generously designed, providing a very relaxing atmosphere. The furnishings are tastefully arranged in just the right amount. The sashimi at dinner was delicious, and I was amazed to enjoy such fresh spiny lobster in the mountains. I would love to stay here again when visiting Matsumoto.

    The Onsen facility was good, but the dinner was disappointing despite upgrading. We requested a room close to the pathways as we had someone with mobility issues, but there was no consideration for that. Some guests couldn't use the bath because it was too far from the room, which was unfortunate. Breakfast, however, was good.

    Wife and Matsumoto Castle

    The view is great, and it felt convenient for sightseeing in Matsumoto. The room's bed is spacious and allows for a good night's sleep. The meals were seasoned to my liking, which was very satisfying. I also enjoyed sake made by a female brewer; it had a gentle taste that I appreciated. The Onsen is spacious, offering beautiful views while you relax and unwind. I had several glasses of draft beer; having some small snacks would have made it perfect—looking forward to that next time!

    Second Stay

    We stayed here for our second wedding anniversary 8 years ago, and this time we visited with our two-year-old child, my husband, mother-in-law, and nephew. The food was all incredibly delicious and very satisfying. The bath was relaxing and we were able to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. This is an accommodation that makes us want to come back again. Thank you once again for this wonderful stay.

    The bath was excellent!

    The bath was spacious with a large tub and washing area, and the changing room had plenty of space, making it clean, comfortable, and pleasant. Unlike other hotels, this left a very positive impression. The thoughtful touch of having towels in the changing room was much appreciated. The dining area also had wide tables for comfort, and the meals were delicious. Staff members wearing "in training" badges provided attentive service, and we were even seen off upon departure, making our stay very enjoyable. One downside was that the Room's window lacked a screen door; opening it let small insects in, which made ventilation difficult. Since we traveled by car, there were no transportation issues. Being on an elevated location with well-maintained Facilities made choosing this place worthwhile.

    Family Trip

    I visited this large Hotel without high expectations, but the service was excellent, and the meals were very delicious. Additionally, one of us has a shellfish allergy, and after notifying them in advance, they handled it perfectly. We were able to enjoy a very pleasant Multiple Night Stay. If I have the chance, I would love to stay here again.

    The service was terrible.

    I booked a no meals included reservation as I planned to visit Utsukushigahara Highlands the next day and leave early in the morning. As soon as I arrived at the entrance of the ryokan, a staff member kindly carried my luggage to the front desk, which was very thoughtful. However, the front desk staff seemed quite unfriendly. Below are some disappointing points: - Ice had to be picked up from the front desk. Since my room was quite far from it, this was very inconvenient and gave an impression of understaffing. - The open-air bath and jacuzzi were full of insects. Although there was a net provided for removing them, it wasn’t sufficient to clean them all. - Even though I arrived earlier than planned and felt tired, hoping for even a simple dinner at the hotel wasn’t possible. The response felt dismissive with something like "That’s not possible." They recommended a ramen shop within the hotel instead, but it had strange music playing with almost no customers around. Reviews on Google weren’t great either, so I ended up taking a taxi to eat near the station. - When I called from my room phone to arrange for a taxi to go near the station, they said they would inform me once they knew its arrival time. However, just minutes later they informed me that "the taxi is downstairs now." Since my room was far from reception again, this made me keep the driver waiting for quite some time. Additionally, when I got downstairs by chance there was also a free shuttle service available heading towards that same station area without any prior notice about it being an option! It would’ve been helpful if someone mentioned such alternatives beforehand especially given close timing overlaps between both services! Overall conclusion: unlikely returning here again despite pricing potentially matching expectations; better accommodations exist elsewhere offering superior experiences regardless lower costs involved too! Even older facilities could leave positive impressions through exceptional hospitality efforts instead!

    It was a very relaxing and nice Hotel.

    We stayed at the accommodation on the second day of our girls' trip to Kamikochi. The phone support during the reservation process was excellent, and the front desk staff at check-in were both polite and kind. The meals were all truly delicious, and both of the two large public baths provided a relaxing space. While we have stayed at many great onsen hotels, this hotel stood out for its attentive staff and exceptional food. Thank you for taking care of us!

    Satisfaction

    The room on the top floor with a private bath was excellent, but the TV placement was inconvenient, making it hard to watch from both the sofa and the bed. Dinner was well-seasoned and very satisfying. The semi-open-air bath had a great view, and soaking in it during sunset was beautiful.

    The previous stay was at Ace Inn Matsumoto. The coordination with Shoho was excellent, allowing for comfortable sightseeing in Matsumoto City and enjoying a great Onsen Ryokan. The lounge offered free drinks, including draft beer, which was perfect after the Onsen. However, the selection of other beverages felt a bit limited.

    I booked a Deluxe Twin Room this time, but it was disappointing and felt more like a Standard Room. At the dining area, staff brought the dishes without explaining their contents, although explanations were given at the neighboring table, so I listened to theirs while eating. The service varied depending on the staff. Even though the food looked great, it was a bit disappointing overall. Having stayed at a nice Ryokan in Shirahone Onsen the day before, the gap felt even greater.

    Overall, it was an accommodation worth revisiting. However, the temperature of the room's bath was a bit high, and when I asked the front desk to lower it, they curtly refused, saying it couldn't be done. The customer service was good. The meals were very delicious, though I felt that some of the raw dishes were not as fresh as they could have been—perhaps I'm just particular about fish freshness since I'm from Chiba. Enjoying a complimentary draft beer while gazing at the Northern Alps was an exquisite moment.

    Maintaining a traditional large-scale Onsen Ryokan must be challenging, but we hope it continues to thrive with excellent service and stunning views. By leveraging unique advantages not found in Asama Onsen, it can pursue a path of luxurious refinement. The Onsen was truly wonderful.
