Delicious seafood

I visited Boso for the first time in a while. It was my first time staying at Houraiya Ryokan, so even though the car navigation system indicated I had arrived, I couldn’t locate the place. I temporarily parked at a nearby temple’s parking lot and called Houraiya Ryokan. A male staff member kindly came out to the road and waved to guide me, allowing me to arrive safely. Since I arrived as planned after 3 PM, I enjoyed soaking in the rooftop open-air bath. Although it was a bit chilly due to strong winds, it felt great once submerged up to my shoulders. The sauna on the rooftop accommodates 3–4 people and is set at a high temperature of 100°C. Unfortunately, as I have heart issues, I could only stay for a few minutes before stepping out. There are also family baths with several steps of stairs leading up to them, so I decided not to use them. For dinner, we were seated in small private rooms where we didn’t have to worry about other guests. The seafood—abalone, spiny lobster, turban shell snail (sazae), golden eye snapper (kinmedai), and bonito—was all exceptional! Even though I'm not usually fond of bonito fish, "Katsuura" bonito is an exception for me. Breakfast was served in the same location as dinner and left us completely satisfied. While fruit is usually my main breakfast choice at home, here I even went back for seconds on rice! The room had an 11 AM checkout time which allowed us plenty of time for a relaxing post-meal rest before leaving. I thoroughly enjoyed all the unique charms that large hotels cannot offer!
