    I’m glad we could see the fireworks.

    I couldn’t understand why the Reviews were so highly rated. The entire Facility feels old. The bath is extremely small—only one or two people can fit. The indoor bath area, including the changing room, didn’t seem to be cleaned. Also, perhaps because it was summer, there were insects. The showerhead is old and has darkened. For the private bath, the changing area is outside. The food is tasty, but the simmered alfonsino (kinmedai) wasn’t as outstanding as the Reviews suggest. There are quite a few other places with equally good food. What bothered me most was that there was hair on the dishes both at dinner and breakfast: on the tokoroten bowl at dinner and on the vinegared dish bowl at breakfast. None of the staff serving meals had their hair tied back neatly, which really concerned me—couldn’t hair fall into the food? I do feel they are doing their best despite how old the Facility is.

    I stayed for one nig...

    I stayed for one night. The service, meals, and baths were all excellent. There was also a local festival that day, which gave me a special opportunity to experience the surrounding culture. The view from the bath overlooked the harbor and had a wonderful atmosphere, and I was happy there was also a sauna and cold plunge. I also truly appreciated the flexible Shuttle Service, which made my trip much more convenient.

    A Seaside Accommodation You’ll Want to Stay at Again

    The food was outstanding, and we could really feel the chef’s dedication. All the staff were very warm and welcoming, making our stay truly comfortable. The room was clean, and we appreciated having a massage chair. Being close to the sea, we also enjoyed fishing—it was a very fulfilling stay. It’s a wonderful memory that they even served the horse mackerel we caught at breakfast the next morning. The open-air bath has spectacular views, though it is a bit small. We would love to stay again.

    The meal was a feast for the eyes as well.

    I requested the Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) feast meal Plan. It was my first time trying kinmedai namero, and it was truly delicious. The tableware was also wonderful—exactly my style. I was happy to be able to enjoy coffee anytime. I was surprised that I could watch Netflix. I was especially glad I could watch the WBC at just the right time. Next time, I’m thinking of a Multiple Night Stay—this Ryokan made me feel confident they would prepare delicious dishes even for two days in a row.

    It was a cozy seaside accommodation with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

    The meals, featuring a variety of splendid alfonsino dishes, were very delicious and healthy. It was my first time trying the alfonsino head hot pot, and it was excellent. The Onsen’s open-air bath was a bit chilly outside and the water was quite hot, so I couldn’t stay in for long, but I felt completely refreshed. I was happy to have a massage chair in the Room, and the coffee in the front lobby was also delicious. The service was efficient, polite, and kind. Thank you very much!

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The Room was clean, and overall—meals included—it felt good value for the price. So I’ll mention what stood out first. The foot section of the massage chair in the Room is folded away, but when I opened it, there was dust built up inside. The blue crab miso soup at breakfast was delicious, but it was a little lukewarm. The changing area for the shared open-air bath was quite dark and might be a bit unsafe for elderly guests. I think the space next to the dining room is a serving area, but I sometimes heard staff voices through the wall, which bothered me. The pillow was a newer type, but it wasn’t very comfortable to use. The complimentary drink bar was great, and the Onsen water was excellent. Being able to watch Netflix was fantastic. Above all, we were able to relax as a family—thank you very much.

    Our anniversary stay was wonderful.

    Just as the Reviews said, the hospitality and meals were outstanding! When you called to confirm allergies, I casually mentioned at the end that we were looking forward to our wedding anniversary, and you didn’t miss it. The surprise sake cup and mizuhiki during dinner moved me to tears. Our 21st wedding anniversary became the best day we’ve ever had. Thank you so much. Next time, we’d love to visit with the whole family! I gave the bath 4 stars because, perhaps for security reasons, the panel facing the sea was slightly darkened, making it hard to see the ocean—this was a bit disappointing. That said, the Room was spotless and very clean, and all of the staff were wonderful people, so we had a truly great trip. Thank you again.

    Experience the exquisite delight of premium seafood cuisine.

    We stayed as a couple at this accommodation. The guidance to the room was kind and attentive. From the clean and well-maintained room, you can enjoy a stunning view of the Boso coastline. The scenery from the open-air onsen and private baths is also breathtaking, making you want to soak forever. The indoor bath on the second floor feels slightly small, but if you think of it as just a place to wash your body, it’s not much of an issue. As for dinner, we were guided to the dining area where dishes were beautifully arranged on our table, prompting us to exclaim in delight. Centered around seafood, there was an impressive variety and quantity of dishes that we managed to finish without any problem. Every dish—from assorted sashimi to kinmedai namerou and simmered fish—was perfectly delicious. After returning to our room, we relaxed by soaking in the onsen again, watching Netflix, or using the massage chair before going to bed. Breakfast also featured an excellent seafood-centered menu. Overall evaluation: Although small in scale, this accommodation is flawless and highly refined. Despite its quality service and offerings, it is reasonably priced with perfect cost performance. We have stayed at more expensive accommodations in the same Boso area before; however, both hospitality and cuisine here are several levels above those places. Thank you for providing such a wonderful experience! We would love to visit again soon!

    Parent-Child Year-End Trip

    We planned a nearby trip with my son, who came home for the New Year holidays, and made a reservation at Houraiya. As expected, the dinner featuring an array of splendid alfonsino dishes was absolutely delicious and highly satisfying. The sashimi, miso soup, simmered dishes, and especially the alfonsino namero were impressive. The bath experience was enhanced by clear weather and a stunning starry sky. From the warm welcome to detailed explanations about the cuisine and a heartfelt send-off, their hospitality truly reflected their long-standing tradition. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay.

    We stayed as a famil...

    We stayed as a family of three in late December. The onsen-equipped room (Awa Chidori) was spacious and even had a massage chair. Considering it was under 30,000 yen for two meals included, even on a weekday, it felt very reasonable. The meals were delicious, and above all, as mentioned in other reviews, the hospitality from everyone including the hostess was kind, cheerful, and excellent. It was just one night, but we felt truly refreshed. Thank you very much!

    They accommodated my food allergies.

    I stayed with my mother, and this was our third visit, including two stays before the renovation. Last year, I developed a wheat allergy, which made meals a challenge and kept me from traveling. However, when I consulted with Houraiya Ryokan about my dietary restrictions, they kindly accommodated my needs. Both dinner and breakfast were specially prepared for me without wheat, shrimp, or crab. I believe there are very few ryokans that provide such thoughtful service. Although I couldn't thank the chefs directly who prepared the meals for me, I'd like to express my gratitude here. The room was very clean and well-equipped. The private bath in the room was spacious and comfortable to use. Even at the end of our stay during the send-off, they waved goodbye until we were out of sight—it truly made me want to come back again! I created wonderful memories with my mother here. Thank you so much!

    An accommodation that makes you want to visit again.

    I was surprised by the reasonable price despite the high reviews. The full-course Kinmedai dishes were incredibly delicious, and paired with a wide variety of drinks, it made for a very satisfying meal. They inform you of the sunrise time during check-in, and watching the sun rise from the sea in the open-air bath with a view was absolutely beautiful. I will definitely visit again.

    Very satisfied

    I made a reservation and stayed at this accommodation without any prior research, but it turned out to be a very satisfying stay. Not only was the food excellent, but I was also impressed by the cheerful and pleasant service of the staff, which made my time even more enjoyable. Next time, I would like to stay with my children and grandchildren.

    Meals and Onsen

    We stayed for one night from September 27th. It was a trip with my mother. The staff at the accommodation provided excellent hospitality, making our stay very pleasant. The onsen had just the right temperature and was very relaxing. Above all, the meals were fantastic. The simmered golden-eye snapper and fresh sashimi at dinner were delightful, and the crab miso soup at breakfast was incredibly delicious. We would love to visit again!

    Savor spiny lobster and abalone!

    I chose this Hotel because I wanted to enjoy delicious sashimi. The luxurious course included spiny lobster, abalone, and beef. The sashimi of flounder, horse mackerel, and bonito was excellent, and the simmered golden eye snapper had a wonderful flavor. Especially memorable was the steamed abalone with liver sauce—it was truly delicious as it was my first time trying it. Additionally, the decorative sashes in each dining Room were all beautiful and added to our enjoyment. The next morning at checkout, we received a heartfelt thank-you letter enclosed with the Receipt in an envelope. The thoughtful gesture from the proprietress warmed our hearts and made us very happy. Thank you for your hospitality!

    A Relaxing Golden Week

    Last year, we spent Golden Week in a crowded tourist spot and felt very tired, so this time we decided to visit a quiet place in our local Chiba Prefecture for delicious food. The location was easy to access by car without much difficulty. Even our teenager, who usually isn't interested in dishes like splendid alfonsino or other fish cuisine, was delighted and kept saying how delicious everything was. Although the onsen wasn't particularly large, the accommodation had a warm atmosphere with kind and attentive staff. It reminded us of the good old Showa-era accommodations, allowing us to enjoy a fulfilling one-night stay. I enjoyed the rooftop onsen alone during the morning bath—very relaxing! There are no convenience stores nearby, which added to its charm by providing an escape from reality that suited us perfectly. The detached house "Asanagi" has a homely feel like an independent house. Since we usually live in an apartment building, our child was thrilled about it! We sang songs while soaking in the spacious bath and took walks to the nearby port without worrying about disturbing others—it was great fun! The room is equipped with modern amenities such as Netflix on a screen and Refa hair dryers, making it comfortable for younger guests as well. Families with children can also enjoy their stay here if they take care around stairs. To the accommodation staff: It was such a lovely room that I have just one suggestion—there's a small window on the left side facing towards the sea from the bed where sunlight streams through quite strongly at around 4 AM. While it didn’t bother us much during sleep, some people might find it too bright; perhaps installing something like roll screens could help? Thank you very much for providing such an enjoyable one-night stay!

    I felt relaxed.

    The staff's hospitality is very warm. The meals were luxurious, featuring a variety of fish dishes. The simmered golden eye snapper and rice with its broth were especially delicious. You can relax while enjoying the ocean view from the Room. We had a pleasant stay even with small children!

    Delicious seafood

    I visited Boso for the first time in a while. It was my first time staying at Houraiya Ryokan, so even though the car navigation system indicated I had arrived, I couldn’t locate the place. I temporarily parked at a nearby temple’s parking lot and called Houraiya Ryokan. A male staff member kindly came out to the road and waved to guide me, allowing me to arrive safely. Since I arrived as planned after 3 PM, I enjoyed soaking in the rooftop open-air bath. Although it was a bit chilly due to strong winds, it felt great once submerged up to my shoulders. The sauna on the rooftop accommodates 3–4 people and is set at a high temperature of 100°C. Unfortunately, as I have heart issues, I could only stay for a few minutes before stepping out. There are also family baths with several steps of stairs leading up to them, so I decided not to use them. For dinner, we were seated in small private rooms where we didn’t have to worry about other guests. The seafood—abalone, spiny lobster, turban shell snail (sazae), golden eye snapper (kinmedai), and bonito—was all exceptional! Even though I'm not usually fond of bonito fish, "Katsuura" bonito is an exception for me. Breakfast was served in the same location as dinner and left us completely satisfied. While fruit is usually my main breakfast choice at home, here I even went back for seconds on rice! The room had an 11 AM checkout time which allowed us plenty of time for a relaxing post-meal rest before leaving. I thoroughly enjoyed all the unique charms that large hotels cannot offer!

    This was my first st...

    This was my first stay, and I could tell it is a historic Ryokan. The Room had low beds that were comfortable to sleep on, and the view of the sea was wonderful. The meals were thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The hostess was kind and lovely.

    Everything is satisfying!

    The warm welcome and luxurious meals were incredibly delicious, almost too much to finish! (I ate too much at lunch...) The bath was also very nice. The view from the open-air bath was excellent! However... the service during meals by the attendant was very disappointing. The way things were placed was so rough that it made noise. I tolerated it a bit because they seemed busy, but what really topped it off was how a small dish spun around due to how it was placed. This left me quite disappointed. It was a woman in her 60s with semi-long brown hair. It felt like such a shame for this wonderful property to be ruined by this experience.

    It was a delightful feast of delicious fish.

    We stayed as a couple. It is located along the road by the sea. The property is built with ingenuity on a narrow terrain characterized by rocky formations typical of Sotobo. It's a 2-minute walk to the sea. The staff at the property were very friendly and kind. The kinmedai, Ise-ebi, and especially Nagasa rice were delicious. The open-air bath on the rooftop offers views of the sea and stars, and it seems that a sauna has been newly installed, making it very pleasant. The room's bath was also creatively designed for enjoyment.

    A Ryokan you want to visit again

    I stayed at Atago-an, Hana no Ka for one night and two days. It was truly a comfortable Ryokan, not just flattery. The proprietress and the young proprietress were wonderful, and all the other staff members greeted us with warm smiles and were very kind. The Onsen was not large, but the open-air bath with a view was at a comfortable temperature and felt great. I was impressed by the attention to detail, such as replacing the used teacups when they laid out the futon during dinner. The food was made with fresh seafood, beautifully presented, and everything was truly delicious! The atmosphere of the Room was tasteful, and the terrace-style semi-open-air bath was excellent. As we were leaving, I was thinking of asking to take a commemorative photo, and I was delighted when the proprietress offered to take one for us. Even my husband, who rarely praises, was full of compliments and said it was a Ryokan he would like to visit again. Thank you for allowing us to have the best time.

    The food, bath, and room were all excellent, but the hospitality was outstanding.

    We chose Chiba for a trip with my elderly mother. While she is still able to move around, we travel together to one place every two months. Initially, Hokkaido was a candidate, but this time we decided on Kamogawa and selected this accommodation. First, the bath—though not very spacious—was clean everywhere and well-maintained. We felt the attention to detail in various aspects and were able to enjoy multiple baths with peace of mind. The room was also very satisfying, and we had fun using the private bath in the room as well. As for the most important part—the food—it was truly impressive in terms of flavor, presentation, and tableware. It’s wonderful to experience dishes that can only be enjoyed here. The meals were absolutely outstanding. To the proprietress, head chef, and all staff members: thank you so much for providing such an amazing time. I am also grateful for your prompt response regarding my mother’s forgotten item upon our departure. I will do my best so that we can visit again someday.     The other day, I stayed with my parents and children. I was truly moved by the warm hospitality and attentive care of the staff. From the moment we checked in, we were greeted with smiles, and throughout our stay, we received courteous and kind service. The meals were also luxurious, with both taste and presentation being wonderful, and our entire family enjoyed them. The dish with golden eye snapper was particularly exquisite and unforgettable. Moreover, the view from the room we stayed in was truly breathtaking! The ocean view from the large window was so beautiful that it took our breath away, and we found ourselves gazing at it for a long time, forgetting the passage of time. We were also able to enjoy the moment the sun rose, making for a truly luxurious experience. My parents were also very satisfied and said, "We definitely want to come again." Thank you for the wonderful memories. We would love to use your property again next time.

    It was excellent.

    I made a reservation to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. I reserved the Tsukimichi room, and it was truly a wonderful room—spacious, new, clean, with plenty of amenities and towels, making our stay comfortable. The food was truly delicious, and we enjoyed the splendid alfonsino prepared in various ways. Even my boyfriend, who has some culinary knowledge from his previous job, was surprised by how delicious the splendid alfonsino was, and he was impressed by its freshness and seasoning. We were also pleased with the perfect portion sizes for both breakfast and dinner. The surprise cake was kindly arranged by the hostess, and thanks to her, my boyfriend was very happy. In front of Tsukimichi is a fishing port, with boats coming and going, and since we stayed over the weekend, there were many people fishing, allowing us to enjoy a different charm from the usual places we stay. We could use the private bath on the rooftop for an additional fee. It was very open, and we could hear the sound of the ocean waves, which I think is a must-experience. Finally, we received a souvenir as a birthday present, and we left feeling moved by the hospitality during our stay. Thank you for a truly wonderful time. We will visit again.

    A Tasteful Stays

    A comfortable Ryokan of a not too large scale. The staff provided a very homey atmosphere with hospitality from the heart, beyond the manual, creating a relaxed environment for guests. As mentioned in other reviews, the meals are the highlight of this Stays. The taste, presentation, and setting are all five-star grade. It's a Property I would like to visit again.
