This is a Hotel where you can enjoy entertainment.
If you stay at this Hotel, be sure to visit Michinoku Matsuriya. You can enjoy powerful Nebuta performances from across the Tohoku region one after another without a break—it’s truly impressive. The open-air bath that feels as if it’s floating on water is a very Hoshino Resorts–style touch, but even more than that, I think the Onsen water quality at Komaki Onsen is excellent. However, if you book expecting the level of Hoshino Resorts properties such as RISONARE, you may find that the Room quality, the somewhat noisy atmosphere in the dining area, and the front desk staff service feel different from what you’d expect from Hoshino Resorts.

This was our second ...
This was our second stay since last year’s Golden Week. This time, we also enjoyed a walk around the garden and soaked in the footbath. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, but it was disappointing that draft beer was only available as part of an all-you-can-drink plan. We would appreciate it if you could consider offering options such as ordering by the glass or changing the drink plan.

Hoshino Resorts Aomoriya
It seems there was a festival-like event at the Hotel Facility, but it required a Reservation and was fully booked, so we couldn’t participate. This was partly due to our lack of research, but we would have appreciated being informed at the time of our Reservation that such an event was scheduled and that making a Reservation in advance was recommended. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay at the Accommodation. The meals were also excellent.

This was my first time staying here, and all the staff were very friendly, making my stay very comfortable. I would like to stay again if I have the opportunity.

Meals are...
What I’m glad I used was the Yawatauma Lounge. Both the setting and the service have a tasteful wabi-sabi feel and real charm. The baths were also excellent—along with the indoor bath, the original hot spring had a wonderful atmosphere. The Room is stylishly designed and has a resort-like vibe. However, arriving at 4:00 PM, I couldn’t get a Reservation for the show, so if you want to see it, I recommend checking in early. Lastly, the meals were disappointing: an overall hectic buffet without a clear main dish. Well, I guess that’s how it is.

Perfect for families to enjoy.
This time, I stayed with my children and their spouses. The Facility does show its age, but it is clean. The musty smell in the Room and hallways is probably due to the building’s age, so it can’t really be helped, but I’m sensitive to it and it bothered me a lot. That said, there were plenty of thoughtful touches that made the stay enjoyable. There was an additional fee, but I highly recommend making a Reservation for the Nebuta show—it was a lot of fun, and seeing it up close was truly impressive. The buffet was lavish and offered many dishes with a strong local feel. The staff were pleasant as well, and we enjoyed everything. I was also surprised to find ramen at the breakfast buffet, and it was delicious. The Onsen had wonderfully silky water—slightly on the hot side—but very relaxing. We had a great time and achieved exactly what we came for. Thank you for taking care of us.

Warm and welcoming service from our staff.
We traveled with three elderly people in their 80s. The staff were very considerate of my grandmother, who has difficulty walking, and we truly appreciated it. Everyone greeted us with wonderful smiles. Also, the festival event held every night from 9:00 PM was very impressive—lively and fantastic. We were even able to touch the horses, and we made many wonderful memories.

Wonderful Accommodation
I understood why this place is so popular after staying here. The service, Room, meals, views, and Onsen were virtually flawless. Apple juice from the service tap, the irori lounge, and the hiba wood chips at the amenities bar were wonderful touches. The welcome pony was incredibly cute. The Room was also very relaxing—so comfortable it almost “ruins” you—in particular the bedding (I fell asleep as soon as I lay down, which surprised my wife), and the tatami height felt thoughtfully designed for unpacking. The Onsen water was silky-smooth, and combined with the scenery it was simply outstanding. We also used the paid lounge by the pond and enjoyed drinks while taking in the view—such a luxurious time. (We used it in the morning as well; thank you for the matcha and sweets.) For me, the best part was definitely the food. That said, this is also where I noticed one drawback. Starting with what bothered me most: among some of the female staff carrying dishes (so I can’t say everyone), there were several times when someone approached silently while passing in a corridor-like area and I ended up stepping aside. Since it was a narrow space—and I’m a bigger person—I may have been right to move out of the way, but at times it still made me wonder. Most of the staff frequently came by to clear plates and were very polite. Once seated at our table, though, I could only admire how delicious everything was. Dinner included sashimi; steak; grilled mackerel; tuna; scallops; beef stew that was melt-in-your-mouth (my wife and I loved it); tempura such as shrimp, young garlic cloves, and corn with matcha salt; and rice dishes like zuke-manma. It was a buffet style meal, but everything tasted great—there wasn’t a single miss. Breakfast was also excellent: miso soup, scallop ramen, and side dishes—we were completely satisfied. By the way, after just one day’s stay my weight had gone up by 4 kg (based on readings from a scale at my previous stop’s morning bath and another scale during bathing before departure). We truly enjoyed a relaxing and elegant holiday here. I would love to stay again. Thank you very much for everything.

Not recommended.
I stayed at Aomoriya, but personally I did not feel the service was worth the Accommodation Fee. First, I appreciated that a luggage cart was provided when unloading from the car, but although there were two or three staff members present, no one offered to help carry our luggage. Next, at check-in we were directed to the accommodation building (West Wing), but it was farther from the front desk than expected. To reach the West Wing, you need to go down to the first floor, walk for a while, and then take the West Wing elevator. However, there was no escort or guidance service to our Room, so we had to make our own way. We had an elderly person with us and a lot of luggage, so it was quite difficult. We had made Reservations for one Room for three people and another Room for two people, but when we entered both Rooms there were only two beds in each. Feeling concerned, we went back to the front desk to confirm and were told that an extra futon would be laid out for one person during dinner. This was not explained at check-in, so it felt insufficiently communicated. The Rooms also felt older than expected, and scratches and stains on the tatami mats were noticeable. Overall, I did not feel satisfied given the price and unfortunately do not think I would like to return. I was disappointed because my expectations were high. That said, dinner was excellent and very enjoyable.

The garden was lovely.
Interacting with the ponies in the garden was wonderful. The shuttle bus Reservation process was hard to understand, and I’d like better coordination and clearer instructions. The Onsen water was great. The meals were a bit disappointing. I appreciated the free coffee service.

Looking forward to what’s next.
It was my first time staying at Hoshino Resorts, and I checked in feeling nervous but very excited. The Michinoku Festival performance was spectacular, and I’m glad I paid the additional fee. The souvenir selection was great and really exciting, and the Onsen left my skin feeling silky smooth—I was very satisfied. However, when I asked questions, being told “It’s written there if you scan the QR code” felt far too impersonal. Maybe that’s just the times we live in, but it wasn’t only once—I found myself thinking “Another QR code…” several times. Because of that, while my stay was enjoyable overall, I couldn’t say I was completely satisfied with the service. I also felt that if the service here had been truly outstanding, it would have motivated me to visit other Hoshino Resorts locations as well—so given how high my expectations were, this was very disappointing.

It was excellent.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great that day, but since our trip was centered around the Hotel, we were able to fully enjoy our time indoors. The meals, Room, Onsen, and events were all wonderful. I think this is a Hotel with outstanding service that everyone should visit at least once.

A Fun Entertainment Hotel
A fun Hotel with a spacious garden, themed around the Nebuta Festival and filled with thoughtful touches throughout. The meals featured plenty of local ingredients, were creatively prepared, and tasted great. There are also daily shows (for an additional fee), which both adults and children can enjoy. It was well worth the price, and we had more than enough to enjoy.

As with Hoshino Reso...
As with Hoshino Resorts in general, I feel a mismatch is likely if you imagine a “new luxury resort” or a “traditional luxury Ryokan.” Their advertising emphasizes a luxurious feel, so I understand why some people may be misled. Aomoriya is the same: the Facility itself is not new, and the Rooms are simple. It has been renovated so it doesn’t feel old, but honestly the Rooms look somewhat cheap. The food is tasty enough compared with well-known budget Onsen chains, but if you expect “luxury Ryokan cuisine,” you may find it lacking. The open-air bath has an absolutely wonderful atmosphere at night, though during the day it can feel a bit underwhelming. That said, there were plenty of washing stations, the water pressure was good, and there were enough baskets in the changing room—overall very comfortable. Jawamegu Plaza was great fun, and throughout my stay I was impressed by how lively and engaged all the staff were. Above all, the Michinoku Festival performed by the staff was truly outstanding. It was worth the extra fee: although it was about an hour long, it was very well produced including video effects, and even I—without any special interest in traditional events—enjoyed it without getting bored. One thing that concerned me is that the Michinoku Festival requires advance reservations. It’s not something most people would expect for an in-house show at an Onsen Ryokan, and I saw some elderly guests who looked disappointed because they hadn’t reserved. I think it would be helpful if each Reservation site clearly stated that advance reservations are required. Overall, if you rate it as a “luxury Ryokan,” your score may be on the low side; however, as an Accommodation focused on events and entertainment satisfaction is very high. During my stay I only spent time in my Room when sleeping; since it was under 30,000 yen per person (per night), I was very satisfied. Because Hoshino Resorts pricing fluctuates significantly depending on timing and demand levels , this can be great value depending on price.

We had a great time.
I was able to relax by soaking in the bath at my leisure. When I went to the main bath in the morning, sunlight streamed through the stained glass and reflected off the steam, creating a truly magical atmosphere. The meals were also very delicious. Since there aren’t many places nearby to have lunch, I would appreciate it if there were an on-site restaurant where guests could enjoy lunch. My favorite feature was the apple juice tap. It was so tasty that I ended up having some every time I walked by. I couldn’t ride the stove carriage because Reservations were full, so I’d like to visit again.

So glad we went!
I stayed in late January, and although it’s Aomori, the Pacific side wasn’t heavily affected by snowfall, so I was able to walk from Misawa Station to Aomoriya. The excitement of heading to Aomoriya through the snow was incredible! The fun atmosphere inside, the relaxing Onsen, and the excellent meals—my biggest takeaway is simply that I’m really glad I went. The only reason my rating isn’t a full 5 stars across the board is that the pillow was hard and flat, making it difficult to sleep, and there were a couple of things during Room cleaning that concerned me.

Peace of mind during emergencies on your trip
Stayed on December 8th, the day of the earthquake off the coast of Tohoku in Aomori Prefecture. Misawa City experienced a seismic intensity of lower 5. The high floors of the West Wing shook significantly. After the earthquake, staff members checked on each room's safety and guided guests to evacuate to the second floor. They promptly confirmed room numbers, secured seating areas, and provided large towels and hand warmers. The warm drinks especially brought comfort during this time. The evacuation was lifted after about an hour, and we returned to our rooms. The next day, two temporary bus services were arranged to Hachinohe Station. I believe all those who wished to board were accommodated. Updates on transportation conditions were provided promptly as well. Guests could also consult about extending their stay if needed. The young staff members worked diligently during this time. While meals and facilities are important, it is during emergencies like these that an accommodation's quality truly stands out. In that sense, I am deeply grateful for being able to spend my time here with peace of mind.

Exciting Accommodation
I stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath. The bath in the room was also free-flowing, and I was very satisfied. Meals were buffet-style, so it's recommended for those who want to eat a lot. During breakfast, they served small portions of scallop ramen. I highly recommend making a Reservation to watch the Nebuta Festival event. The decorations in the plaza leading to the dining area are exciting. This time, I didn't go to the large public bath but did enjoy the original hot spring. The quality of the spring water is excellent.

The service was excellent.
I didn't know that reservation-based participatory events are held daily. The free drink information only mentioned apple juice, but I realized the next morning that coffee and other options were also available. As for the dinner buffet, I felt that some premium-class resorts offer more variety, such as sashimi, and tastier options. There didn’t seem to be any particularly special or delicious items here. It was my first time staying at a Hoshino Resort, and it didn’t quite meet my expectations. However, the staff's service was excellent.

It was relaxing.
Turning the faucet to get apple juice was a delightful experience, and the juice was delicious. The spacious Room provided a relaxing atmosphere. The dinner buffet had high ratings, but after trying everything once, it didn’t feel like going back for seconds or thirds. Having the same selection prepared at two locations in the large venue seemed well-organized to accommodate everyone at once. At checkout, the front desk staff left a sticky note with comments for me and even talked about my local area. Their thoughtful preparation to engage in friendly conversations with every guest was impressive.

As expected of Hoshino Resorts.
The Hotel has a large, maze-like property, which might be a bit challenging for elderly guests to walk around. Even so, the Nebuta Festival-themed decorations in various spots made it feel like a theme park and were enjoyable. There were plenty of Instagram-worthy spots. Although efforts seemed to have been made to reduce dining congestion, the live kitchen had long lines, making it difficult to enjoy meals at a leisurely pace. As for the Onsen, while not the Hotel's fault, witnessing foreign guests washing unknown clothing items in the washing area was unpleasant and left me feeling uncomfortable—3 stars overall. The horses were adorable! The Nebuta show and horse-drawn carriage activities are highly recommended.

It was a great Onsen!
I stay here when visiting my family. During the Halloween season, the entire accommodation was decorated in a cute Halloween theme. The scallop ramen at the breakfast buffet was light and delicious, and I enjoyed plenty of fresh vegetables. The atmosphere changes with each season, so I had a great time again this visit. The paid Nebuta show was impressive and worth making the reservation! It was an excellent stay.

Great activities available.
The shows, photo-worthy displays, and other activities were excellent. As with other Hoshino Resorts facilities, the service was consistently good, the Onsen was great, the activities were enjoyable, the room was decent, there were many inbound guests, but I felt that the food did not match its price. Aomoriya had many families with small children staying there and seemed very suitable for such families. On our way back, it started raining heavily. Although we used a shuttle service to get to the station, train operations were reduced due to limited schedules and delays caused by rain. Waiting for the next train would have made us miss our Shinkansen connection as later trains were fully booked. We ended up taking a taxi from the station to Hachinohe instead. While wondering how inbound guests at the station managed in such situations, I regretted not planning more buffer time between connections but also wished that in such cases there could be coordination with stations to provide bus services directly to Hachinohe.

Satisfied with the buffet
The service was excellent. The facilities were satisfactory. The buffet meals had a good variety and taste, which was also satisfying. However, there were only two coffee machines, and one of them was out of order, which was a bit disappointing. When I asked the front desk about bus schedules, I was told to "check online yourself," which felt unhelpful. There were rooms where guests could stay with their pets, but bringing them to common areas felt slightly uncomfortable and concerning.

Aomori Theme Park
For our first visit to Aomori, we chose this highly-rated accommodation. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an adorable donkey, which instantly lifted our spirits! We stayed in the Azumashi semi-open-air room. The room was spacious and beautifully furnished with lovely decor. Both the floating onsen in the open-air bath and the semi-open-air onsen attached to the room were incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating. The next morning, we woke up early to visit Motoyu, about a 10-minute walk away. It was indeed one of the most silky-smooth onsens we've ever experienced, leaving us feeling refreshed. The dinner buffet at Nore Sore Dining Hall offered a wide variety of dishes centered around Aomori's local cuisine and was absolutely delicious—truly satisfying! (The live kitchen featured apple and shrimp tempura, teppanyaki beef with apple sauce, and grilled scallops.) At breakfast buffet time, seafood rice bowls (kaisendon), ochazuke (rice with tea), and apple jam were particularly popular—and they were indeed delicious! Highly recommended. As for activities, we participated in the Michinoku Festival Show—it was of very high quality and an amazing one-hour performance that flew by in no time. We are deeply grateful to all staff members for their heartfelt hospitality—thank you so much!

Staying at "Aomoriya" was the purpose of the trip.
There was nearly a 40-minute wait for the Shuttle Service from Misawa Station, so I decided to walk to "Aomoriya." The entrance to "Aomoriya" is located near the railroad crossing right by the bus terminal, and it takes about 15 minutes on foot to reach the front desk. The Onsen has a smooth and silky texture, and the "apple juice from the tap" near the bath area offers a refreshing taste—I ended up going back three times for more juice. Dinner had slightly fewer Aomori seafood dishes than expected, but the grilled mackerel skewers, roasted mackerel salad, and beef teppanyaki were so delicious that I couldn't resist having seconds.

This is my second stay.
This is our second stay, as we wanted to participate in the Nebuta event again after our previous visit before COVID. This time, we chose a plan with meals included. The buffet offered high-quality dishes, but the environment was not relaxing for an elderly couple like us. Some Asian foreign guests were loud and unpleasant. Since we are no longer at an age where we can eat large quantities, we hope for meal options other than buffets in the future. The Onsen's water quality was excellent and very soothing. The quality of the Nebuta event has improved greatly, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. This facility is one I would recommend to acquaintances.

Be Cautious About the Bathroom Description in the Room
I stayed in the Azumashi Japanese-Western Room. The room description mentioned "with shower booth," and the floor plan indicated "bathroom." It is unclear whether this discrepancy lies with IKYU.com or the accommodation itself, but from this description and floor plan, it was difficult to deduce that there was no bathtub in the room's private bath (although it is true that no oval shape indicating a bathtub was drawn on the floor plan). In hotels, such descriptions are generally used when there is a separate space for washing one's body apart from a bathtub or jacuzzi. Since this is an Onsen facility, I assume that the room's amenities were designed with the expectation of guests using the large communal bath. However, for family trips where some may feel hesitant to use public baths due to personal circumstances, having at least a private space in the room to relax and soak would be appreciated. If such information about facilities had been available beforehand, my impression would have been quite different. While I consider this experience as part of my learning process, it was disappointing because other aspects like facilities and meals were highly satisfactory under the brand of "Hoshino Resorts Group."

Nabuta Viewing Tour: Highly Satisfying
I stayed here to attend the Nebuta Festival and joined a Nebuta viewing tour. The tour included reserved seats, a bento box, and souvenirs, allowing me to enjoy the event comfortably and with great satisfaction. The viewing seats offered an excellent view, and the manager participating in the Nebuta came by to greet us. The hotel had various thoughtful touches that made it enjoyable, and the meals were delicious. The original hot spring was silky smooth; although it is located separately, it is worth visiting. However, when I checked in around 2 PM, there was only one staff member handling check-ins despite many guests waiting in line. Several employees at the front desk ignored this situation and went behind the counter without assisting customers. Is it not necessary for non-assigned staff to assist guests? I found this disappointing.

Hatsuhoshino
This was my first stay at the highly popular Hoshino Resorts. In conclusion, it is recommended for families and young people who are not seasoned travelers, but for those accustomed to high-end accommodations, it felt more like a family restaurant-style hotel. However, they have creatively renovated older accommodations with their expertise, and the young staff bring energy and enthusiasm. It would have been nice to receive suggestions for activities between arriving early and checking into the room. The adjacent park lacked attractions, leaving us with idle time that became tiring. The buffet was not particularly impressive in terms of content, and the seating was far away, which made it inconvenient. I had a lower leg massage from a young woman on the first floor. Her skills and customer service were as excellent as those at top-tier hotels in Tokyo—truly impressive. The overall festival production felt like it could use some improvement. While children seemed to enjoy themselves to some extent, considering the high price point, the quality fell short of expectations. The festival area relied heavily on projection mapping; I would have preferred seeing more actual mikoshi (portable shrines). The staff's theatrical performances were unnecessary in my opinion. The entrance to the open-air bath had an unpleasant smell that needs addressing. Additionally, since the entrance to the large public bath is located right in the middle of the festival square, it feels unsettling—layout improvements are expected here as well.
