    The meals are simply outstanding.

    In mid-October 2025, during the start of the autumn foliage season, we stayed in the popular "Kotokawa" Room at this accommodation. The Onsen in the room was sourced from a hot spring and had a pleasantly warm temperature, which we thoroughly enjoyed (no issues with insects if you visit during the right season). The indoor bath in the public bath area was standard, but we found safety concerns with the outdoor bath due to its slippery surface and lack of noticeable handrails. We also explored a cave-like area at the back but couldn't stay there long as it felt uncomfortable. Sensitive guests might find it unsettling (this sentiment was echoed by other guests during conversations). The room itself was average and lacked comfortable chairs or sofas, which was disappointing. However, feeding koi fish in the garden pond turned out to be an unexpectedly enjoyable activity that added a unique touch to our stay. What truly impressed us were the meals—especially tea kaiseki served at a counter—it was exceptional! Every dish was delicious, refined, and outstanding. Both dinner and breakfast are highly recommended for all guests (particularly those who prefer natural flavors without chemical seasonings). Additionally, we appreciated the complimentary winery tour offered by their warm-hearted staff—it exceeded expectations! We felt so grateful for this free experience that we ended up purchasing many items from their winery shop; this too became an enjoyable part of our trip. During our stay, fragrant osmanthus flowers were blooming throughout the property grounds. Opening our windows to let their scent fill our room created luxurious memories. While there is some imbalance between aspects like room design versus excellent dining experiences—which feels like a missed opportunity—we can confidently recommend this accommodation for those prioritizing exquisite meals above all else. Our overall rating would be 3.5 stars if judged critically; however, with hope and encouragement for future improvements included in consideration, we'd generously rate it 4 stars instead.     Exceptional Hospitality

    The Onsen with free-flowing natural hot spring water had excellent quality and temperature, allowing for a relaxing and extended soak. The meals were carefully prepared and truly enjoyable. I never knew Amago could be so delicious... The fruit park with its beautiful night view was stunning, and the winery tour was both fun and educational. I look forward to seeing Japanese wine continue to grow and thrive in the future. Thank you to all the staff!

    Handwritten menu and typewritten text

    Dinner featured a delightful tea-themed kaiseki meal, with beautifully handwritten menus that added to the wonderful atmosphere. Breakfast included printed menus, and I personally would have appreciated printed menus for dinner as well. The meals were carefully prepared, perfectly portioned, and elegantly presented. After using the spa, I was unaware of needing to go directly to the bath area and ended up walking through the hallway unprepared; prior notice about this would have been helpful. The library offered an excellent selection of books along with complimentary wine, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Some individually packaged snacks or mini cakes like those provided at other accommodations would have been a nice addition. Thank you very much!

    It was excellent!

    I suggested this accommodation, which I had bookmarked after finding it in a magazine, for a trip with friends from my office days, some of whom I hadn’t seen in about 30 years. The idea of staying at an accommodation with a winery was appealing, and the fact that it wasn’t a hotel but featured an onsen and Japanese cuisine made it unique. When I inquired about shuttle service and amenities beforehand, the staff responded kindly. They even offered to pick us up at a recommended lunch spot before check-in! Such attentive service was truly surprising. The koi feeding experience, lounge area, onsen open-air bath with sauna were all fantastic. The night view tour within the facility allowed us to wear the provided yukata while having separate sleepwear available for bedtime—this convenience was much appreciated. The meals were exquisite both at dinner and breakfast, accompanied by detailed explanations from the serving staff. Although we rarely encountered staff around the facility for some reason, everything—from towel replenishment to maintaining cleanliness in the bath area—was perfectly managed. The night view tour guide and winery guide were knowledgeable and made our experience enjoyable. While it may not be an everyday affordable option, we would love to return as a special treat for ourselves. All my friends were deeply impressed as well. Thank you very much!

    Quiet accommodation for adults

    Upon arrival, I was surprised by the bustling town, but the accommodation itself was very quiet and had a calm atmosphere. I was initially concerned as there was no mention of dining arrangements, but I was able to enjoy my meal in a private room at my own pace. The meal itself featured beautiful dishes made with many local ingredients, which left me very satisfied. There were also several private baths available, offering relaxing and excellent hot water. I felt this is an accommodation for adults that I would love to visit again.

    44th Wedding Anniversary

    The impression from my previous stay was excellent, so I quickly made a Reservation to spend this year's wedding anniversary here. The Room's open-air bath was spacious and allowed for a relaxing soak. The meals were perfectly portioned, and since we had a private dining Room this time, we could enjoy the delicious food without worrying about others. The service was impeccable; although there was an issue with the Room's electrical system, during breakfast the next morning, the staff apologized sincerely for the trouble from the night before. I was impressed by how well information is shared among staff members. At checkout, their thoughtful response regarding this matter left me even more impressed. The pre-ordered bento box also had high quality and tasted amazing. Next time, I would love to visit with my grandchildren’s family. Completely satisfied!

    Cozy Hidden Accommodation

    I stayed here last year and was completely satisfied with the Onsen, tea kaiseki cuisine, and the staff's hospitality. This time, I revisited during a different season specifically to stay at this accommodation again. In advance, I informed them that my wife has a soba allergy, and they handled it perfectly, allowing us to enjoy our meals with peace of mind. The tea kaiseki cuisine was not only delicious but also beautifully presented with seasonal colors that were visually delightful. The staff were full of hospitality and showed thoughtful consideration in every detail.

    The cuisine, hot spring quality, facilities, wine, room, and service all feel somewhat mediocre. Not bad, but not great either. It depends on what you're looking for, but I wouldn't return.

    Make wonderful memories.

    This was an excellent ryokan that I visited once a year for the past few years. I was looking forward to my stay this year, but it no longer felt like the "Zabou" I loved. The library had fewer magazines, which made me wonder. Snacks for alcohol were placed in the room, creating a somewhat incomplete all-inclusive experience. Snacks were also being sold in the shop. What shocked me the most was the food. Has the head chef left? While the presentation resembled tea ceremony cuisine, the content felt standardized in a disappointing way, lacking the thoughtful touches of the previous chef. The menu felt reused or like a replica. I heard that the management has changed. Perhaps the current management does not understand the spirit of the tea ceremony. Will this place also become just another accommodation catering to inbound tourists? The on-site staff are working very hard, which makes it all the more disappointing.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    The meals were absolutely delicious, and we enjoyed deciphering the beautifully handwritten menu by the head chef. The bath, including the open-air bath, was slightly lukewarm but very spacious, allowing for a relaxing experience. However, as a sauna enthusiast, I would have appreciated having outdoor relaxation chairs, so I deducted one star for that. That said, I think the current scenery is lovely as it is and doesn't necessarily need any changes (haha). Overall, it was an excellent accommodation, and I look forward to visiting again soon.     An accommodation that makes you want to come back.

    This is my fourth visit. Even though I sometimes consider other accommodations like ○○ or ××, once I come to Zabou, all other options fade away, and I always think, "Next time will be here again." There are many staff members, but every one of them provides outstanding hospitality. And as always, the meals are delicious. This time, for the first time, we used the counter at the dining area where the head chef personally served us. Thank you for such a luxurious experience. The room and bath were comfortable as well. We checked in early and fully enjoyed 22 hours immersed in Zabou's exceptional hospitality. We look forward to visiting again next spring! Thank you in advance!

    Perfect Accommodation!

    I made a Reservation because the Onsen seemed to be of high quality. And what a surprise! The tea kaiseki cuisine was absolutely outstanding!! Locally sourced ingredients, beautifully crafted dishes, and creativity that far exceeded my expectations left me in awe!!! The staff's detailed explanations and extensive knowledge made the dishes even more enjoyable. It was a series of surprises and amazement. The quality of the Onsen was also exceptional. While it is often compared to "beauty serum," Zabou's Onsen felt like "cream"! Now we are already discussing when to visit next!

    Accommodation with Heartwarming Hospitality

    I visited for the first time with my mother and sister. My mother, who has difficulty walking, got out of the car with her cane and struggled to sit on the lobby sofa. After completing the check-in process and listening to the explanation of the facilities, we were guided to our room. To our surprise, the traditional Japanese-style chair in the room had been replaced with a higher chair for my mother, and there was even a shoe bench at the entrance! Without us requesting anything, they had anticipated my mother's needs and prepared everything in advance. I have stayed at many ryokans, including more luxurious ones, but I have never experienced such exceptional hospitality. The room and the entire facility were impeccably clean and well-maintained. The fresh flowers and decorations added a warm touch. The garden, visible from the room, was stunning, and the open-air Onsen was spacious and relaxing. The meals, based on tea kaiseki cuisine, were carefully prepared and delicious. Above all, the staff were all friendly, kind, and approachable with just the right level of familiarity—what an amazing ryokan! Additionally, the library lounge offers unlimited local Katsunuma wine until midnight! And as an activity, they even take you on a winery tour with free round-trip shuttle service! Is this place heaven? For wine lovers, it's conveniently close to Katsunuma for winery tours. For Onsen enthusiasts, there are spacious rock baths and cave baths in the open-air Onsen area, along with a sauna and complimentary ice pops after your bath. Since returning home, my mother has been enthusiastically recommending (or bragging about?) this place to her friends and neighbors. She’s already planning to revisit with her friends soon. This Onsen Ryokan is highly recommended!

    Highly satisfied.

    This was my second stay, and I loved the Room with two sections. The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff's attentive care and warm smiles were truly comforting. The PH9.6 hot spring water is exceptional. I enjoyed tasting all the wines, and I was amazed by the quality of Maruki's wine. The free drink corner's Japanese coffee was also delightful. The amenities were excellent, and I appreciated that the hairdryer was my favorite Refa Smart model. However, the bamboo grove illumination outside the Room felt too bright as there were no shutters or blinds; it would be great if curtains or something similar could block out some light. For me personally, I found the pillow a bit low. Other than that, everything was perfect! I'll definitely return again. Completely satisfied!

    I felt very relaxed.

    The overall experience was flawless, with exceptionally attentive service. The meals incorporated a wide variety of Yamanashi specialties, including some lesser-known ones, and the menu was well-balanced, making both dinner and breakfast incredibly enjoyable. The activities were excellent, the library was very relaxing, and most notably, the quality of the natural flowing Onsen was outstanding. I hope to visit again during a pleasant season when the opportunity arises. If I may make one suggestion, since there was a fully automatic espresso machine in the room, it would have been nice to have milk and a milk jug available. (With these, I believe I could enjoy cappuccinos and café lattes.)

    The winery tour was excellent.

    The Room, meals, and service were all excellent. It was my first winery tour, but I enjoyed it very much. The explanations were detailed, interesting, and very educational. I was happy to try many wines during the tasting session. I ended up buying a lot of wine to take home! The winery staff were friendly, cheerful, and made a great impression. Thank you very much!

    Cozy Ryokan

    This was my third stay, and the comfort remained as excellent as the previous two visits. The high-quality meals, the superb hot spring baths, and the spacious lounge are of a high standard even nationwide. While luxury ryokans nowadays often cost between 150,000 to 200,000 yen per night, Zabou offers its most luxurious room for around 100,000 yen. I believe the cost performance is quite reasonable. During my stay a year and a half ago, I noticed a pair of ducks, but it seemed one had lost its partner this time, which was a bit sad. I look forward to visiting again in a different season.

    First Tea Ceremony Experience

    We chose this accommodation because we were looking for a place to relax in an onsen during our trip to Minobu Mountain, and it had high reviews. Although we were initially on the waiting list, we were lucky enough to secure a room with a semi-open-air onsen bath and immediately made the reservation for our family of three. The most impressive part of our stay was the evening tea kaiseki dinner. We didn’t expect it to be tea kaiseki until that evening. Starting with the beautifully handwritten menu by the chef, everything from presentation to etiquette felt fresh and deeply moving. Having stayed at various accommodations before, Japanese full-course meals often have similar menus without leaving much impression. However, this tea kaiseki was different—boldly presented dishes like crab atop a large salad plate, seasonal matsutake mushroom rice with free refills, beef shigureni rice also with unlimited servings, and homemade pickles like shibazuke and narazuke cut generously—all gave off an abundant feeling that left us emotionally fulfilled. Everything was so delicious that I ended up having seconds twice despite rarely doing so! It even inspired me to buy books about tea kaiseki etiquette. Our room’s semi-open-air bath with natural hot spring water flowing 24/7 was another highlight—it felt luxurious being able to bathe anytime we wanted. While I did visit the public bath as well, I preferred our private bath in the room and used it three times! Even though both baths share the same water quality, somehow the private one felt more concentrated. The wine bar at night offered a calm atmosphere where you could read books or enjoy coffee or iced Japanese black tea (which was delicious) in the morning—a truly indulgent experience. My husband enjoyed wine alone at night while my son and I didn’t drink; this accommodation is perfect for true wine lovers. We had brought some fruit along but worried about storing it in their refrigerator; however, when we informed them about this concern, they kindly kept it chilled for us separately and returned it perfectly cold upon checkout—such thoughtful service! The only regret is not being able to visit a winery during this trip; next time I’d love to come back with friends who enjoy wine! I hope they maintain their serene atmosphere without becoming too crowded due to inbound tourism—and that they keep having such skilled chefs around forever!

    I enjoyed a relaxing time with the pleasant Onsen and delicious meals again. However, this time, the amenities in the Room were disappointing. In my pouch, there was only one toothbrush for me, and in my husband's pouch, there was just a toothbrush, hairbrush, razor, and two cotton swabs. While unnecessary items are not needed, items like hairbrushes and cotton swabs cannot be shared. On a positive note, I appreciated the improvements in service such as having floor chairs prepared in the Room and drinks stocked in the refrigerator.

    Monthly Couple's Clear Trip

    We enjoy a monthly couple's trip to unwind from our busy daily lives. We visit Yamanashi every year for a drive and fresh fruits, but this was our first time staying overnight. We always search for accommodations on IKYU.com and have only found wonderful places. Of course, we searched on IKYU.com again this time. Zabo received excellent reviews, which piqued our interest, so we decided to stay there. It truly lived up to the glowing reviews! Our room this time was "Sakura," featuring an open-air rock bath (Onsen), where we could relax at ease. The staff's hospitality was exceptional, and the fresh flowers in the room were soothing as well. What impressed us most was the dining experience—a tea kaiseki meal served at the counter with explanations from the chef about each dish’s meaning and preparation process. Every dish was carefully crafted and absolutely delicious! Choosing counter seating turned out to be perfect! We also requested a bento box for our return day—a thoughtful service that allowed us to reminisce about our trip over wine and bento after returning home. This reset journey was truly amazing, making Zabo one of those rare accommodations we'd love to revisit soon. In fact, while discussing it on our way back home, we made another reservation for winter—same room included! We're already looking forward to reuniting with the staff, enjoying winter scenery, and savoring their incredible meals again. Thank you so much for making this trip special!     Excellent service

    First time in Yamanashi. I didn't know there was such a high-level accommodation in Yamanashi. Definitely coming back. I brought my elderly mother, and the service level here is outstanding compared to any other accommodation I've been to. Simply wonderful. The dinner dishes were slightly on the salty side at first, but perhaps that's the taste of Yamanashi. The Onsen is perfect as well.
