    Your First Chakai-seki Cuisine

This is a Ryokan I had wanted to stay at for some time because of its high Review ratings. Our Room was a Japanese-style room on the second floor. The view was not particularly notable, but we were mainly there for the cuisine this time, so it didn’t bother us. After settling into the Room, we used the large public bath, then spent some time in the lounge with drinks. They had Maruki Winery wine available, but it didn’t suit our taste (probably just personal preference). Still, the lounge had a pleasant atmosphere, so we relaxed there with Japanese black tea. Dinner was the tea kaiseki meal we had been looking forward to. It was served in order—one soup and three dishes, sashimi, simmered dish, grilled dish, and hassun—along with careful explanations. Each item was full of flavor; in particular, the dried ayu served as part of the hassun was delicious. However, since it was tea kaiseki, the portions were small and it ended in less than an hour. It may feel a bit light for men. Breakfast was substantial. As someone else mentioned before, I hope they will reconsider the futon bedding in Japanese-style rooms. There was only one mattress pad on each futon bed set up on tatami mats (shikibuton), and it wasn’t very comfortable. All staff members were courteous—the person who guided us to our Room, the dinner attendant(s), and the checkout staff alike.

    Exceptional hospitality

This was my first stay here. I often make Reservations through IKYU, and the meals were truly outstanding! The Onsen water was wonderfully silky. Above all, the hospitality and service were exceptional. I will definitely be back.

A wonderful Accommodation, just as highly rated.

Given the excellent reputation, we arrived with high expectations—and this Accommodation truly exceeded them. The winery tour was very informative, and we’re glad we joined. The meals were delicious, and the wine pairing made it even more satisfying. This time we stayed in a Room without a private bath, but the large public bath also had a sauna and well-equipped Facilities, so we were completely satisfied. Next time, we’d love to try a Room with an open-air bath. It was also peak peach season, so we were able to pick up “Kasugai Peaches” as a souvenir, making our trip to Yamanashi even more enjoyable. We’d love to visit again in another season as well.

It was a wonderful Ryokan—the best I’ve stayed at in a long time.

Every July, we go to buy delicious locally sourced fruit directly from the growers. In the past, we also visited Lake Kawaguchi and Lake Yamanaka, which felt like a big detour and a waste of time, so this time I looked for a good Ryokan in the fruit-growing area. That’s when I found this place—though not nearby, it looked like it had a wonderful atmosphere—so I made a Reservation. It was exactly as expected and absolutely the right choice. The atmosphere was calm and very relaxing. The tea-kaiseki cuisine also suited us perfectly; at our age we can’t handle large portions or heavy, greasy food anymore, and every dish felt gentle and satisfying. There were just two small points that caught my attention: we stayed in “Sakura,” and the entrance key was slightly difficult to lock and unlock. Also, I noticed a bit of dirt around the air conditioner vent in the Room. What stood out most otherwise was how excellent the staff member was who welcomed us, guided us to our Room, and served our meals—her tone of voice, her slow and clear explanations, and her sense of conversational distance were all wonderful. Likewise, the woman who served breakfast and handled checkout (she said she has been here for six years) had perfect pacing in conversation as well as outstanding manners. We will stay again next time, so thank you in advance. Also, thank you from the bottom of my heart for kindly accommodating my wife’s allergies.

    Thank you for your support.

We traveled with my elderly mother-in-law, and as on our previous stay, everything—such as preparing chairs—was arranged with extra care, allowing us to spend a very comfortable time. The meals were consistently excellent as well. Since we stay around the same time every year, we would appreciate it if you could consider adding a bit more variety to items such as the hassun. To all the staff, thank you very much for your help and thoughtful attention.

A moving return to Zazen after five years

This was my sixth stay, though it had been five years since my last visit.\nManagement had changed, so I was a little worried, but I decided to return based on the Reviews.\nMy worries were unfounded.\nThe Onsen is still wonderful, and the lounge and Room have been beautifully refreshed—there were even snacks in the Room!\nThe tea kaiseki meal was as delicious as ever; the amago trout in particular was outstanding. It was perfectly plump, and I ate it all, head and all.\nAbove all, what impressed me most was the heartfelt hospitality from the staff. (There seem to be more younger staff members now.)\nI will definitely be back!

    Warm hospitality throughout

From the moment we were picked up with the Shuttle Service from the station, we were welcomed with warm hospitality, and we truly appreciated the thoughtful care shown to my mother, who has difficulty walking. The meals were very generous in portion size, and dinner flew by in two and a half hours. Their attention to seasonal touches was wonderful, and we had a lovely time. The only thing to note is that the Onsen is so good that the floor can be extremely slippery, so please take care when walking. The water was soft and absolutely excellent.

    So relaxing!

I’ve stayed at many Onsen Accommodations, but this Accommodation truly felt filled with wonderful energy. The Room was like a private home, and I’d never spent such a long time soaking in an open-air bath in the Room after breakfast. Listening to birdsong and enjoying the perfectly balanced water temperature was deeply soothing for both body and mind. The meals were carefully prepared, heartfelt tea-kaiseki cuisine—refined yet never intimidating—and the staff were attentive so we could relax and feel comfortable throughout our stay. At the end of dinner, matcha was served, and we could see it being whisked in kimono, with hot water poured from the kettle right in front of us. Breakfast was high quality, perfectly portioned, and exceptionally delicious. We also appreciated being able to enjoy beer or wine freely after bathing. This is one Accommodation we’d love to visit again in every season.

A Family Trip After a Long Time

Our family stayed at an Accommodation I can confidently recommend to anyone. Five stars across the board: great Onsen, great staff, great food, great service, and a great Room. We arrived an hour early, but they kindly accommodated us and let us relax in the lounge while we waited. We became a little more knowledgeable about Yamanashi wine on the winery tour, rediscovered the excellence of Japanese cuisine through tea kaiseki, enjoyed iwana fish sake together, and unwound in an Onsen that left our skin glowing—all while feeling the warmth and kindness of every staff member. The wonderful time flew by in an instant, and we all promised to come back again. It’s also close to Kai Zenkoji Temple, where you can experience the “Crying Dragon” ceiling painting and the underground corridor walk. It’s near the Kikyouya Shingenmochi Factory as well, so you won’t have trouble finding souvenirs.

    Wonderful Ryokan

I visited Zabo for the first time, a place I had long wanted to experience, and it was even more wonderful than I imagined. The cuisine, the Onsen, and the service were all outstanding. Complimentary tours to enjoy the night view and visits to a winery were also offered, and both were truly enjoyable. In addition, the library on the second floor was so comfortable that I found myself returning many times during my stay. I would love to visit again in a different season.

This is what comfort feels like.

We stayed at this Accommodation for cherry picking and the Onsen. The service was excellent—attentive without being intrusive, and handled with grace. The Room was clean and well maintained. The in-room bath was so comfortable that I used it many times. The large public bath was also very spacious and wonderful. Since you have to walk outside to reach the dining area, it might be tough if there’s heavy rain. As for dinner, I’ve stayed at many Accommodations, but this was my first time having kaiseki cuisine—truly impressive. Every dish was outstanding. That said, it felt like wine is emphasized, and the sake selection seemed a bit limited. In the morning, houtou was served in addition to a Japanese breakfast, which made me wonder why at first. I understand it’s a local specialty they want to offer; if so, something like a late-night snack service might be even more fun—“late-night houtou,” perhaps? There were no real issues, but with recent news about bears, I found myself feeling uneasy about using the open-air bath attached to the Room (I know it’s designed so bears absolutely cannot enter). Still, darkness can feel a bit scary. Personally, I’d appreciate an option to switch on brighter outdoor lighting when desired. It was a truly wonderful Accommodation, and I would definitely love to visit again.

A Family Trip After a Long Time

This time, our whole family truly enjoyed our stay at Zabo. We arrived an hour before check-in, but we were warmly welcomed with genuine smiles. Zabo feels untouched by inbound tourism; most guests and staff are Japanese, which somehow makes it very relaxing. The Onsen is kept at a perfect temperature that you could soak in for as long as you like, and you can really feel your skin becoming smooth. The meals are delicious, beautifully presented, and wonderfully colorful—you could keep eating forever. The Room is quiet, so you can unwind at your own pace. Highly recommended Accommodation. The winery tour was both fun and educational, and everyone came away knowing much more about wine.

It was a truly unforgettable trip.

We were looking for a Ryokan in Yamanashi to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and since the IKYU Reviews were highly rated and the atmosphere seemed like his style, we decided to stay here for the first time. With check-in at 2:00 PM and check-out at 12:00 PM, we didn’t feel rushed and were able to relax, which was wonderful. The Onsen was truly soothing. Perhaps because it’s an alkaline simple hot spring, my skin felt smooth after soaking. We also joined the night view tour in the evening and had a really lovely time together as a couple. Fresh flowers were displayed throughout the property, and we could feel the thoughtful attention to detail in those small touches. One small thing that stood out: when we arrived, I asked a staff member how many years this Ryokan has been operating, but they didn’t seem to know and there wasn’t really an answer. Since I think its history and ambiance are part of its charm, that was a little disappointing. Also regarding the evening activity tour, there was no advance information. I had seen it online and asked about it myself, which is how I learned we could join. If there were a brief mention beforehand, I think more guests would feel reassured and enjoy it even more. That said, what stayed with us most from this trip was dinner. At the counter seating, the head chef explained each dish as it was served. Everything was truly delicious—my husband even said it had been a long time since he’d been so moved by a meal. The tea utensils, dashi broth, and their signature grilled river fish—everything was carefully prepared. It wasn’t just about taste; even the time spent dining became a lasting memory. The next morning my husband wanted to thank the chef in person but we weren’t able to see him. We hope to express our thanks directly on our next visit. This has become a very special place for us as a couple. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.

It was a very thoughtful Accommodation!

I stayed here because the Reviews were good. I joined the free winery tour, and thanks to the enthusiastic guide, I learned a lot. I was very happy that there was a stand inside the large public bath where you can place your belongings. I bring my own shampoo and body soap, and at other Onsens there’s often nowhere to put them, so I usually choose a Room with an open-air bath. The open-air bath in the Room can also be opened and closed with a door, so when it’s cold you can close it and wash comfortably. The meals were tea kaiseki cuisine—carefully prepared and delicious. Breakfast was so satisfying it almost made me want a drink. I was pleased with every flavor. I think this Ryokan is thoughtful in every way. Thanks to that, I slept very well.

Thank you for a wonderful time.

We stayed here to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The Room and the private indoor bath were wonderful, but above all, the kaiseki-style tea dinner was full of delightful surprises. The wine pairing was excellent, and the staff member who looked after us provided outstanding hospitality. Breakfast was also superb. I was thrilled to try Ozara, a Yamanashi specialty I had been wanting to eat. The wine cellar tour and the night-view tour were both great. I felt completely refreshed in the sauna at the large public bath both at night and in the morning. All of the staff were truly wonderful. I would love to return if I have another opportunity. Thank you for such a memorable stay.

I stay here about once every six months as a time to unwind. The Onsen, meals, service, and hospitality offer a level of relaxation and satisfaction I can’t find at other Accommodation. Thank you as always. This time, I was very disappointed that the takeout bento order option was no longer available. The bento was part of what made staying at Zabo so enjoyable, so I hope it will return.

As it was my first stay, I chose a reasonably priced Room in the main building facing the garden (without a private open-air bath) so I could use the large public bath and the open-air bath. The tea-based cuisine was served in just the right portions, and I also enjoyed the chef’s presentation. The afternoon winery tasting tour and guidance from the Accommodation staff were very good, and after the tasting I even bought some wine, which is unusual for me. This is an Accommodation I’d like to return to after a long time; next time I’m thinking of visiting during the autumn foliage season.

A Long-Awaited Moment of Quiet Reflection

It had been a while since my last stay at Zabo. No matter when I visit, it always feels consistently comfortable. They have been renovating little by little, and everything is clean with impeccable service. The post-bath beer and ice cream, wine tastings, and other touches really make you feel welcomed. I also love the Onsen—the slightly silky, moisturizing water is wonderful. All of the staff are kind and gentle. However, this time the meals were disappointing. I’ve had their tea kaiseki many times before, but this time it felt average. The hassun in particular seemed quite simple. Breakfast was also ordinary and not memorable. For example, for the morning dessert—despite Yamanashi being famous for fruit—the jelly used canned peaches, which was a bit disappointing. Still, Zabo remains a reliable favorite, and I will visit again.

    A long-awaited dream come true

Staying in a Room with an open-air garden Onsen bath overlooking a pond right in front of us was extremely satisfying. The koi and spot-billed ducks were adorable and truly heartwarming. It felt like a dream for about 21 hours, and we were able to forget our usual busy routine and relax at ease. We were moved by everything—the air, the scenery, the Onsen, the hospitality, the atmosphere... We sincerely thank all of the staff. It was raining at dinner time, so walking outside to the dining area felt a bit far, but the next morning was perfectly clear, and walking to and from breakfast along “Maruki no Koji” was wonderfully refreshing, so we ended up feeling that this distance is actually nice. In particular, the service from the young male staff member who served our dinner was outstanding and left a lasting impression—it warmed our hearts and made us glad we came. Thank you very much. With so many young staff members as well, we feel reassured for years to come.

We stayed at this Accommodation to enjoy an Onsen after hiking Mt. Daibosatsu, and it was absolutely the right choice. The staff were pleasant and welcoming, making a great first impression. The detached Room was also very comfortable. I was surprised to find a De’Longhi espresso machine in the Room. The lounge services were satisfying as well, with plenty of tastings available from their partner winery. Above all, the meals were the highlight. It was my first time trying tea kaiseki cuisine, and every dish was carefully prepared and delicious. In particular, the charcoal-grilled amago trout was the best river fish dish I’ve ever had. The Onsen is on the slightly cooler side, which may come down to personal preference, but it’s perfect for those who like to soak for a long time like I do. This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.

The Ultimate Place to Relax and Unwind

This was our second stay, and we enjoyed two wonderful nights. My spouse and I were truly comforted by the warm smiles and thoughtful hospitality of every staff member. The quality of the Onsen, the Facility, the surroundings, and the chef’s heartfelt cuisine moved us again and again. We have stayed at many Accommodations in various regions. Among more than 50 places we have experienced in the past, Zabo is without question No. 1 in Yamanashi Prefecture. Based on our past experiences—such as Yamado in Iwate Prefecture and Kitanosaryo in Hakone—we were delighted to feel that Zabo’s cuisine is one of our top three best in The whole country. Thank you for such a healing stay. We are truly grateful. We will definitely make another Reservation.

Attentive service that respects your privacy

We visited Fuefuki for the first time all the way from Osaka. Even though there are few competing properties nearby, we truly enjoyed the thoughtful services, such as night-viewing and a winery tour. We appreciated being able to relax without worrying too much about being watched, and whenever we had a question, there was always a staff member nearby. The female staff member at dinner also shared helpful local tips—such as a walking route to Erinji Temple and up-to-date information on the scenery at Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine—which was very useful for planning our travel the next day. Thank you very much. We will recommend this place to friends as well.

This is a very nice Accommodation.

I’ve been to many Onsen, and this was probably the best. The service was especially outstanding. We were lucky to have clear weather this time, but since you need to go outside when heading to meals and other areas, it may be difficult on rainy or snowy days.

    今いる場所から始めよう!

Learning from our last stay, we booked again for a second visit—and it was absolutely the right choice!

Last time, I had a rushed breakfast, checked out right away, and headed to the golf course, so I was left with a bit of regret. This time, I learned from that and checked in after finishing my round of golf. With both time and peace of mind to spare, I was able to truly appreciate how comfortable this Accommodation really is. I was impressed by the calm atmosphere throughout the building, the delicious meals, and above all, the warm hospitality of the staff. The service was never overbearing, yet always attentive and considerate—something that left a lasting impression. A complimentary beer server has also been newly installed in the post-bath lounge by the large public bath. I poured some into the chilled tumbler kindly placed in my Room’s refrigerator and thoroughly enjoyed a refreshing drink after bathing. It reminded me once again of the luxury of taking things slowly. This is an Accommodation I would absolutely love to visit again. My sincere thanks to an Accommodation that makes me feel like I want to “come home” again.

I was truly captivated by the generous farm-to-table meal.

I’d been curious about this Accommodation for a long time, so I was happy to finally stay here. I was first overwhelmed by the vast grounds. Because it’s close to a detached-villa style, I was able to spend my time very quietly and peacefully. The in-Room bath was made of hinoki cypress, which I really liked. I just wish it were a bit larger... Dinner and breakfast were served in the dining area, using plenty of local ingredients and seasonal items, and everything was absolutely delicious. Each dish was explained carefully, which made it very easy to understand. However, the distance from the Room to the dining area was quite long on foot, which could be challenging at times. It truly felt like an Accommodation everyone should visit at least once.

It was an Accommodation that satisfied us in every way!

Overall, I was very satisfied. Here are a few suggestions that would have made it even better: - There were mosquitoes, so we lit a mosquito coil in the bedroom, but the smoke spread during the night and woke me up. An electric, odorless type would be better. - The weather was very pleasant and I wanted to let a refreshing breeze into the Room, but when I opened the window it felt completely visible from outside. Sheer lace curtains would be helpful. - Dinner was delicious, but the music playing was modern jazz and the loud trumpet sounds didn’t feel relaxing. A more calming selection would be nicer. - The towel rack by the sink was light and tipped over easily, so a sturdier one would be better. I would love to visit again if I have the chance. Thank you very much.

This time, I brought my daughter with me.

I just visited in March, but I had such a wonderful experience that I came back with my daughter. This time there were three of us, so we stayed in the separate annex villa. It was spacious and comfortable even for three people, and the drinks in the refrigerator were free—we enjoyed iced tea, iced coffee, and more. I was a bit worried about slipping in the open-air bath in the Room because it is ceramic, but proper anti-slip measures were in place, so I could use it with peace of mind. Even on our second visit, the tempura was delicious! All of the staff were pleasant and attentive, which made our stay truly comfortable. We will definitely return again. Thank you very much!

I stayed in a detached Room. I use this place often, and it’s great because I can truly relax. The in-Room bath is just the right size, and every time I stay, I use it many times from check-in to check-out. A 12:00 checkout is also a nice touch. The meals are delicious, but the menu hardly changes each time, which is always a bit disappointing.
