    The “Yamagata dashi”...

    The “Yamagata dashi” recommended by the staff at dinner was so delicious that I ended up having seconds. I was looking forward to having it at breakfast, so it was disappointing that it wasn’t served. The other dishes, such as chawanmushi and salt-grilled ayu, were also very tasty. One request: I would appreciate a twin-bed room option (tatami rooms are hard on my back). Also, I was concerned that staff members did not greet guests when we passed them in places like the walkway to the parking lot. They would greet us if we spoke first, but otherwise they seemed to look away, which was disappointing.

    The view from the Room was wonderful.

    The staff were very kind, which made me feel at ease. The bathwater was lukewarm, so I felt like I might catch a cold. Otherwise, the property was clean and the food was delicious. The coffee was also good, but I would have been even happier if iced coffee had been available as well.

    It was a Hotel full of warm hospitality.

    Thank you for taking care of our family of four for one night and two days. One of us was delayed due to work and might not have made it in time for dinner. When we informed the staff, they kindly changed our dining Room and made various thoughtful arrangements so that even if we arrived late, we could relax without rushing. We were in a difficult situation, and I was truly moved by your deep hospitality. I asked for their name, but they said, “We all do this together...” To Mr./Ms. K-sawa and all the staff members at the dinner venue, thank you very much for everything. I was deeply impressed. We will come again. Thank you so much!!

    Kind and attentive service.

    I stayed at this Accommodation with my elderly mother. We were very satisfied with both the Onsen and the meals. The Shuttle Service driver, the front desk staff, and the room attendants were all kind and pleasant, so we had a very comfortable stay. My mother was happy as well. If I had to mention one drawback, it would be that the pillow didn’t suit me. Since you can choose your yukata, I would appreciate it if there were several types of pillows to choose from as well. Other than that, everything was great. Thank you very much.

    A very spacious Room for a relaxing stay.

    I wondered if I was really on the right road, but as I continued, I spotted a lovely Ryokan along the river. The building has a strong retro Showa-era feel, and I was able to relax and enjoy my stay. The food was delicious as well. It was affordable, which really helped.

    The feedback I wrote in the questionnaire was addressed the same day. The Onsen was great, the meals were excellent, and the drinks were delicious and reasonably priced—overall, I was very satisfied. I would like to visit again.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The property felt a bit dated overall, and even the toilet in the Room looked old, which made me uneasy at first. However, I think the biggest selling point is how pleasant and welcoming all the staff were. The Room air conditioner was hard to manage because it only had High/Medium/Low/Off settings, but my friends from overseas were able to experience a kotatsu for the first time, which was great. The sunken kotatsu area was higher than I expected, but it actually felt just right. The bath area was small—both the changing room and the bath itself—and there were only a few washing stations and not many hair dryers. Considering the number of guest rooms, I thought you might have to wait or find there aren’t enough at busy times. The hair dryer in the Room wasn’t very good either, so it’s better to use one in the public bath. The shampoo and conditioner were average. Dinner was delicious and nicely presented. That said, I wasn’t sure about when to light the burner even when asked. It would be nice if they offered an alternative for people who can’t drink alcohol instead of serving white wine as an aperitif. I’d also be happy if tea were available as part of the welcome drink. Breakfast said “fully booked,” but we got in at a good time—depending on the time slot, you may have to wait… Everything tasted great overall, so I was satisfied! The older Facility stood out a bit, but with friendly staff and delicious meals, we had a good stay.

    Satisfaction Beyond the Price

    I chose this accommodation for my trip to Yamagata. Many accommodations seem to close right after New Year's, and even on weekdays, there were no available slots for the exact dates I wanted! After carefully selecting from IKYU.com, I made my choice. After checking in and entering the room, I was delighted from the start with its cozy kotatsu, bed, dining area, and private bath—so much comfort in one place! Dinner was served in the room. The attendant kindly introduced themselves with a business card—Ms. ○○ (name withheld for privacy), a Vietnamese trainee. Despite being a trainee, she was entrusted with room service duties and demonstrated an impressively high level of skill. Her service was smooth and polite; I was very satisfied. The Onsen hotel had a nostalgic atmosphere that reflected its rich history. To Ms. ○○ from Vietnam: wishing you all the best in your future endeavors! Overall satisfaction: five stars!

    Unfortunately.

    I booked with a great Plan, but it was extremely disappointing. The wallpaper was torn and peeling in many places, and while I expected it to be well-maintained despite being old, it was worse than imagined. The newly renovated bath area was nice, but the meals were not as good as described in reviews, and even for someone like me who eats small portions, the quantity was insufficient. It made me rethink what service truly means during this trip. Truly disappointing.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    I stayed in a twin room, but since I used the large public bath, the room was spacious enough. One downside was that even though I borrowed a humidifier, there were not enough outlets, so I couldn't use it. Rooms tend to get dry, so wherever I go to an Onsen, I always borrow a humidifier or air purifier. The staff were very kind and polite with their greetings, which left a great impression on me. The Onsen warmed my body thoroughly, and I enjoyed it three times during my stay. The food was also delicious, and I had a relaxing time. If given another opportunity to visit again, I'd like to stay in a room with an indoor hot spring bath next time!

    I had a very relaxing time.

    It was a trip with an old friend. We enjoyed beer during happy hour in the room and the all-you-can-eat grated yam and rice at the dinner venue, which were excellent. The massage chair in the room was also delightful. It has become an accommodation I would like to visit again.

    This is my third visit, and it’s truly a great accommodation. It’s also reasonably priced.

    We truly enjoy the excellent baths and delicious meals here. The food was absolutely amazing this time as well... It's a perfect midway stop when working continuously in the Tohoku region. Although it's a shame we couldn't stay longer before or after, we will definitely use this place again.

    This is my third stay since December 2012, and the kindness of the staff was evident everywhere. The breakfast buffet had a limited selection and seemed less impressive compared to other facilities. However, the local specialty, Imoni soup, was delicious.

    Nostalgic Accommodation

    It was very quiet and pleasant! The food included nostalgic dishes, and I was completely satisfied. I also enjoyed playing table tennis.

    It was not a luxury accommodation.

    Before and after staying at Kansokan, I stayed at about 15 accommodations in the Tohoku region within the same price range. To conclude, this was the most disappointing accommodation of the trip. Firstly, there was no welcoming or send-off service, which is usually expected at a ryokan of this class. Guests are required to carry all their luggage to the room themselves. The building is significantly aged, and although I stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath, the bath on the balcony was moldy. Additionally, due to its forced construction, the noise from the ventilation fan and water (though a towel was provided to muffle the sound) was not at an acceptable level. Having stayed in many rooms with open-air baths at other facilities, this was entirely different from a true open-air bath. While the dinner ingredients were of good quality, the preparation was typical of a large ryokan, which was disappointing. The breakfast was a standard buffet, which was also underwhelming, though the imoni (stew) was delicious. The lobby smelled of tobacco, which detracted from the atmosphere expected of a luxury accommodation listed on IKYU. Other accommodations I stayed at through IKYU were relatively satisfying, but Kansokan felt more like a casual accommodation within the IKYU listings. If you have a specific reason to visit this area, it might be acceptable, but it is not an accommodation worth going out of your way to visit.

    Accommodation with youthful and hardworking staff

    The accommodation is clean and well-maintained. The food is delicious with excellent seasoning. The room had a semi-open-air bath, which was fantastic. The staff in charge of in-room dining were very kind, making the meal enjoyable. Thank you very much. Next time, I will stay with my parents.

    First Time in Yamagata

    The onsen town felt more desolate than quaint, and the exterior of the ryokan looked a bit disappointing, so I checked in without high expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised. While some parts of the interior and room were old, everything was clean and well-maintained. The thoughtful hospitality included services like coffee and snacks in the lobby, a selection of yukata to choose from, and more. Above all, the meals were exceptional. The dishes featured meticulous seasoning with local ingredients and a fusion of Japanese and Western styles that kept things interesting—many seemed unique to this ryokan. The breakfast buffet also stood out for its variety and excellent flavors. The staff's service further enhanced our experience. A new staff member from Vietnam served us during dinner; despite being new, their earnest effort shone through in their pleasant service. The experienced staff who supported them were kind and warm-hearted as well—it was truly comforting to see such teamwork. My first trip to Yamagata became a wonderful memory thanks to this experience. Thank you very much!

    An accommodation where you can spend a relaxing time.

    We stayed in Room 310. The room included in-room dining, a semi-open-air bath, and a massage chair, providing relaxation and comfort. The meals were delicious, and the breakfast buffet was also excellent. Although located in the mountains, there was a roadside station nearby which was convenient.

    It was a relaxing and comfortable accommodation.

    I stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath (Ayudoru Se). Although the room was not spacious, it was a very relaxing space. The cleaning throughout the accommodation, including the room and large public bath, was thorough, allowing for a comfortable stay. The meals were served in the room, and the staff responsible for serving had a wonderful smile and provided detailed explanations of each dish, making it an enjoyable dining experience. From the room I stayed in, I couldn't see the river (though I could see mountains over the roof), so if you are particular about views, it might be best to check at the time of reservation. Thank you very much!

    Very satisfied

    First, one suggestion: it’s a shame the Room layout isn’t being fully utilized. It would be perfect if the floor where the massage chair is placed were also tatami. Other than that, full marks!!! I felt it was clearly well differentiated. The shampoo and hair dryer provided in the Room are different from those in the large public bath, and I could tell you use different amenities depending on the Room price. The hair dryer was Dyson! The food is delicious! The semi-open-air bath in the guest room is amazing! The staff service is also excellent! 100,000 points!

    Planning to visit again.

    At this price range, the bath and meals are excellent with no complaints. I will use it again for a pre-stay before work, but I hope to visit someday unrelated to work.

    Traditional Onsen Accommodation

    The main service staff were Vietnamese trainees who worked hard to assist us. The room was clean with a decent view, but I wish the pool visible from the window had been tidier. This time it was just two adults, but if we could bring our grandchildren next time, they would likely enjoy it as there were plenty of items available for river activities. The meals were generally delicious and served in just the right portions. One thing I noticed throughout this trip is how tasty Yamagata's cuisine is, and the hotel's breakfast showcased some of the best options with a wide variety (you could keep refilling your rice endlessly!). Although the accommodation itself seems to have been around for quite some years, it was well-maintained and provided a comfortable stay.

    I apologize for choosing this place solely because it is close to my work in the morning.

    Honestly, I chose this place simply because it was cheaper than a business hotel with breakfast and had a great location. However, the bath, building, and meals were excellent—no complaints at all. I’ll be staying here again before work next month, but someday I’d like to visit just to relax without any work obligations.

    Had a pleasant stay!

    First trip to Yamagata for five women! This Ryokan has a very charming atmosphere, and the staff at the front desk were very welcoming. We got to choose our yukata patterns, which made us even more excited! The meals were carefully prepared, and we enjoyed every bite to the fullest. The staff explained each dish with care, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. At checkout, we received a "Thank you" message card, which left us feeling great as we ended our trip! This is an accommodation with exceptional hospitality that makes you want to visit again.

    The bath is excellent.

    Arrived just after 6 PM on Friday after work. As the bath's gender-swapping time was approaching, I quickly headed to the bath. The glass windows separating the indoor and outdoor baths were fully open, offering a breathtaking view. Someone sitting on a chair by the outdoor bath seemed to be cooling off or meditating after soaking in the water for a while. The location itself boasts beautiful natural scenery, and with no artificial structures in sight, it was truly relaxing to unwind after a workweek. I will definitely return again!

    Great smiles!

    The Facility is old, and you need to use stairs to access the bath and dining area, but the staff were very friendly with warm smiles. The grilled sweetfish was excellent!!

    Great value for money

    We stayed for one night on April 16th with my wife and mother-in-law, making it our first stay at this accommodation. We reserved a Japanese-style room with a living room (Family Twin), and the room was much more spacious than we imagined, which surprised my mother-in-law. The room was clean, well-maintained, and the tatami mats were in excellent condition, making it very comfortable. However, since it was an end-room location, the walk from the elevator to the room was a bit long with some ups and downs, which might have been slightly challenging for my mother-in-law who has weak legs. This is understandable as it's not a new building. For dinner, we enjoyed dishes made with local ingredients. My wife and mother-in-law prefer lighter meals but thoroughly enjoyed every dish served. When I mentioned to the staff that this trip was to celebrate my mother's 88th birthday (Beiju), they kindly prepared a yellow celebratory vest and hat along with a dessert featuring a special message. They even took commemorative photos for us and offered to mail them later—truly thoughtful service! It became an unforgettable memory for my mother. The onsen had just the right temperature; being on a weekday meant it wasn’t crowded so we could relax fully while bathing. Overall, I must say that this accommodation offers incredible value for money! With onsen access + delicious meals + exceptional service all included at nearly the same price as staying in business hotels in Tokyo—it’s unbeatable! Choosing Kanetsukikan turned out to be absolutely perfect. Thank you so much! We hope to stay again during autumn foliage season!
