    The worst.

    I won’t go into details. I was a repeat guest, but I will never stay here again. My birthday celebration ended in the worst possible way.

    The Onsen is exceptional.

    The Onsen felt like a beauty serum. I was very satisfied. I could really sense the care put into the meals, though it may come down to personal preference. However, I would have liked some pickles served with the rice. The Room was in a separate annex, which was nice, but I was a bit disappointed that the piping on the outside of the corridor was fully visible.

    It was a relaxing and rejuvenating trip.

    After five years, we finally had the chance to stay at Otogi no Yado Komeya. Over the past five years, we made several Reservations but had to Cancel the Reservation due to circumstances. This time, determined to make it happen, we went on a summer Onsen trip. The Room, hospitality, and cuisine were all outstanding. The free-flowing Onsen in particular felt like a high-quality lotion. We left feeling refreshed in both body and mind. This is our number-one Accommodation that we would love to visit again. Thank you for taking such great care of us.

    The Onsen is amazing, and the guest rooms are amazing too.

    The Onsen was outstanding in every way—both the large public bath and the open-air bath in the Room, including the water quality and temperature. The in-room amenities, including the projector, were excellent; it was a Room packed with everything you could wish for. If I had to mention one thing, I would have liked a bit of surprise with the meals like there was with the Room and baths. Personally, I don’t necessarily need a set course; I’d appreciate being able to choose à la carte items in advance—and even better if they could be served in the Room.

    This time I stayed alone. The Room had a terrace, where I could sit on the bench, relax and enjoy the view outside, sip coffee while listening to birdsong, stroll around the property, and soak my feet in the footbath... I was very satisfied with both the Onsen and the meals. I wished I could have stayed one more night. Above all, this Accommodation is always a pleasure to stay at thanks to its cleanliness and the calm, courteous service from the staff. Thank you very much!

    I’m a returning guest.

    I’m always impressed by how wonderful the Onsen is. It feels thick and silky, like a facial lotion. I also really like the Onsen mist shower. The Room had been renovated. When three people sit around the table, we would like one more chair. It felt like one person didn’t have a place to sit. The in-room bath was spacious, and the Onsen there felt the richest, which was very satisfying. I’d like to stay again in a different season.

    The meals try too hard to be unconventional.

    It was a bit disappointing that the view from the Room looked out onto a mown embankment. I think a Room on the opposite side would have offered an excellent view. The meals were very creative and impressive, but they felt a little too unconventional for me to fully enjoy the flavors. I felt that with a more straightforward approach, the dishes could be even tastier. That said, this creativity is part of the Accommodation’s character, so I don’t mean it negatively. The open-air bath in the garden was spacious—large enough for two people to relax comfortably—and the water quality was excellent, so I soaked in it many times. Overall, it was a satisfying stay.

    My wife and I stayed here as part of a retirement celebration trip. Although it was a long weekend and the property was probably fully booked, the hotel was very quiet, and even though we visited the large public bath several times, it felt almost private each time. The silky water with a faint sulfur scent was wonderful. It was my first time trying an Onsen mist sauna, and I really loved it. The bath in our Room was also excellent; at 51°C, once we filled it, you could feel the heat all the way into the Room—proof of how abundant the hot spring source is. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and more than filling, with dinner themed around “The Three Little Pigs.” We were also very satisfied just with the complimentary drinks: sparkling wine at welcome drinks, sake in the café area, and beer in our Room. After dinner, my wife and I had massages, but they felt so good that we slept through most of them. Thank you so much to all the staff. It was a truly restful stay and a wonderful memory. We would love to return again.

    This was my first st...

    This was my first stay. I visited Sukagawa for Tsuburaya-related sightseeing, and at first the Accommodation was secondary. However, since I was heading toward the Bandai-Atami area, I looked for an Onsen Accommodation and found one conveniently located for Sukagawa, so I made a Reservation. Upon arrival, I was able to relax in an exceptionally well-appointed Accommodation: a soothing free-flowing natural hot spring Onsen, delicious meals featuring mainly local ingredients, a spacious lounge with complimentary drinks, and a large, spotless Room. I also appreciated that dinner offered not only standard soft drinks but also authentic non-alcoholic wine, which made it easy for those who don’t drink alcohol to enjoy beverages that pair well with the meal. Just one thing: as light eaters, we were a bit disappointed that smaller portions weren’t available. If each dish could be slightly reduced in size, we could enjoy more of the variety. I’m sorry my wife ended up leaving some food. In any case, it was a wonderful Accommodation. All of the staff were kind and took great care of us. Thank you very much.

    A long-held dream has come true.

    A long-held wish has finally come true, and I am truly delighted that I was at last able to visit Komeya. As soon as I stepped inside the Ryokan, I was greeted by beautifully arranged seasonal flowers—elegant yet vibrant—and their beauty brought me a sense of calm. During my stay, I was able to forget the busyness of everyday life and spend genuinely relaxing time. Being able to unwind like this for the first time in a while was a truly happy experience for me. Recently, I have often stayed at Hotels for work, but this visit reminded me anew of the unique charm of a Ryokan and the wonderful warmth of heartfelt hospitality. The time I spent at Komeya became something special that gently soothed my mind. I was also deeply moved by the staff’s sincere and caring service. It left a strong impression on me to see how everyone takes pride in their work and engages with guests with such composure. Each warm smile and thoughtful gesture healed both body and mind. I was also very happy to meet Sekine-sama by chance. Being able to see you became one of the lovely memories of this stay, and it gave me even more reason to look forward to visiting Komeya again. The free-flowing Onsen were all wonderful—the large public bath, open-air bath, and natural spring mist sauna—and they left me feeling refreshed in both body and spirit. Above all, the free-flowing Onsen bath in my Room was exceptional; I enjoyed soaking many times during my stay, leaving my skin moisturized and smooth as well as allowing me to fully appreciate how wonderful an Onsen can be. The footbath was also extremely comfortable, offering another peaceful moment of relaxation. Each dish was beautifully presented, and I savored them slowly while enjoying the natural flavors of seasonal ingredients. The tableware also had an elegant beauty that enhanced each course even further. The fairytale theme—where a story unfolded with every dish—was especially delightful, bringing enjoyment not only visually but emotionally as well. Experiencing such gentle flavors that respect each ingredient made me reflect on my everyday diet; it reminded me that from now on I want to cherish food more carefully and live each day with a calm and kind heart. Since returning home, I have been completely “Komeya-loss.” I cannot forget your heartwarming hospitality or the special time you gave me, and I am already looking forward to the day when I can visit again. As these hot days continue, please take good care of yourselves—I wish everyone continued health. Thank you very much for everything during this stay.

    Onsen with a lotion-like texture

    The Onsen was wonderful. For two or three people, this Room is more than satisfying even without a separate annex. The Room has a private Onsen bath, and you can adjust the flow of the free-flowing water yourself. Two towels per person are provided, and towels are also available at the large public bath, which is very helpful. It’s also nice that meals are served in a private dining area. However, the meal service is overly attentive. The lengthy explanations of each dish tied to a fairy-tale theme feel excessive, leaving too little time to relax and eat quietly with family. Because of these long explanations, dinner started at 7:00 PM and didn’t finish until close to 9:30 PM. Also, for shabu-shabu, meat was served onto our plates while still quite red. The meat is fresh so it’s fine, but we would prefer to cook it ourselves at our own pace. Overall, the seasoning is strong—too salty for us from Kansai. Salt koji isn’t necessary in the shabu-shabu broth, and the clam rice was also heavily seasoned. Maybe this level of saltiness is normal further east from Nagoya? All in all, for those who want to enjoy the Onsen, this Accommodation is excellent and offers great value for money.

    It was very relaxing.

    I’ve stayed here several times, and I’m always satisfied because I can relax and unwind in a calm atmosphere. The meals are especially wonderful, and the fairy-tale-inspired dishes bring a fresh surprise every time I visit. However, it felt like the shop had fewer items than before. I’d love to come again.     A truly distinctive Accommodation.

    This time, I stayed at an Accommodation I’d been curious about for a while. As soon as we arrived, we were warmly welcomed at the entrance—much appreciated. Inside, the decor perfectly matched the “fairy-tale” concept, which made me even more excited for the stay. I also caught glimpses of how rooted it is in the local community, and I really related to their desire to showcase the Kagamiishi area. The Room was a compact Japanese-style room, but it was clean and comfortable. And since there was an in-room bath, I ended up enjoying baths throughout my stay. The Onsen was flawless—so silky and smooth it truly deserves to be called a “beautifying hot spring.” It felt comparable to, or even better than, Kannon Onsen where I stayed before. Both the large public bath and the in-room bath had that same luxurious texture. In addition, with the in-room bath you can adjust the water temperature to your liking, making it especially relaxing. It was wonderful that whether I set it lukewarm or hot depending on my mood, that silky feel on the skin stayed consistent. Meals were their signature “Otogi Kaiseki.” While reminiscing over familiar fairy tales, everything tasted excellent—and both presentation and decorative knife work were outstanding. As adults we rarely have chances to revisit fairy tales, so we ended up having lively conversations reflecting on old memories and everything that has happened since then. There are also relaxing spaces inside the Accommodation along with books across many genres—so a Multiple Night Stay would be a great idea too. Inspired by Otogi Kaiseki, I even picked up some fairy tales and picture books again for the first time in ages. Hospitality was impeccable. Everyone spoke to us during our stay and made us feel very welcome. Even at checkout, we appreciated how considerate both staff and housekeeping were. Many Ryokan and Hotel properties share similar concepts these days, but this is a truly unique Accommodation—in a very good way—unlike other Facility offerings. I’ll definitely return.

    This is an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again.

    The Facility, meals, and all the staff were wonderful—this is our No. 1 Accommodation we want to visit again. We truly felt the Accommodation’s thoughtfulness from the housekeeping staff member who saw us off until we were out of sight in the hallway. The wild berry tea placed in the shared space was also very delicious. Hoping we can visit again, we have a couple of requests for Komeya: 1. We would appreciate it if we could choose sizes for the in-house wear and loungewear. 2. We noticed a slightly sharp odor around the sink area in the Room. It may be coming from the toilet, so please check. Thank you.

    I had been hoping to...

    I had been hoping to return since Hanare 88 was built, and this was my third stay. When I made the Reservation, they promptly accommodated my requests, which I truly appreciated. I was welcomed with a sparkling wine welcome drink and then shown to my Room. Since the corridor is not outdoors, it wasn’t affected by the weather, and the atmosphere was wonderful. The Room had a simple, clean design and felt very comfortable. During turndown service, the towels were replaced as well, so I could relax in comfort. There were pajamas, bathrobes, samue loungewear, and yukata provided, along with plenty of hangers. There were also two types of mirrors, which made it easy to do my makeup in natural light. The amenities were carefully selected and reassuring. The open-air bath surrounded by nature was incredibly relaxing, and the nighttime lighting was outstanding—I ended up soaking for a long time. The fairy-tale-inspired menu items were all so charming that it almost felt like a shame to eat them. The turnip potage at dinner with sea urchin was sweet and delicious—such a gentle, comforting flavor. The filet meat was also tender with rich flavor. The Oma tuna sashimi tasted as if it might have been frozen; that part was a little disappointing. Breakfast was thoughtfully prepared and gentle on the body; the portion size was just right, and the free-range white omelet-style egg dish was especially delicious. As expected from an eco-certified Accommodation, my stomach felt great throughout my stay. All of the staff greeted me with smiles as well—my time at Komeya remains a wonderful memory.

    The staff’s thoughtful hospitality and the quality of the hot spring water are excellent.

    I stayed for one night with my mother. We had a lot of luggage, so we asked to have it delivered, and they were incredibly considerate. The meals were also presented like a story, and we enjoyed every dish—each one was delicious. They even made rice we couldn’t finish into onigiri for a late-night snack, and brought the Anniversary Plan cake to our Room. Everyone was truly kind to us. The Onsen was one of the highlights as well, and the water quality was surprisingly silky-smooth…! I was impressed, but above all, my mother—who was with me—was deeply moved by both the Onsen and the staff’s hospitality. It’s not an easy distance to visit casually, but it’s an Accommodation I would love to return to. If I had one small concern, it would be that the Wi-Fi in the Room felt a bit weak. But overall: full marks! Thank you very much for taking such great care of us.

    This was my first time staying here, and it was so wonderful that I’d like to leave a Review. The location isn’t somewhere with lots of attractions nearby, so I booked my first stay just to try it out—but in the best way possible, it exceeded my expectations in every respect. To be honest, I had no expectations for the meals, but they were at a very high level. The vegetables in particular were outstanding, and I would highly recommend this Accommodation to anyone who loves vegetables. As far as I know, the satisfaction level with the vegetables may have been the best of any place I’ve stayed. The serving temperatures were also perfect, and it felt well beyond what you’d typically expect from “Accommodation cuisine.” The hot spring source is simply excellent. It’s rare to find water quality like this. I’m male, and I especially want to recommend the large public bath fed directly from the source. I stayed in Detached Room 887. At 54 m², I was slightly concerned about how spacious it would feel, but the layout, spatial design, and flow were extremely well thought out, making it a very relaxing space. The route from the main building to the detached Room is also well designed; while there is a slight slope, it felt carefully considered down to small details. As for service as well—including younger staff—it gave me the impression that training is thorough. The service was attentive and professional without being overly formal; there was a pleasant warmth that made my stay very comfortable. This is not a luxury Accommodation where you enjoy a glamorous lounge or free-flow drinks. The lobby is relatively understated too. This Accommodation focuses on offering cuisine that sincerely brings out the quality of its ingredients, so those looking for something flashy may not find it suitable. One small point: although there is a fence beside each private dining room in the restaurant area, people seem to pass through as part of staff movement routes, making them easy to notice within your line of sight when they walk by. It was slightly noticeable especially in the morning; with a bit more consideration for sightlines, it would feel even more exceptional. I believe this Accommodation is well worth driving all the way to Fukushima for. I’d like to visit again regularly. Thank you in advance when I return next time.

    Thank you for a relaxing stay.

    From the pick-up bus to the welcome drink, guidance around the property and our Room, and serving and explaining the meals, everything felt very pleasant—surely thanks to the wonderful staff. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, adorable, and so thoughtfully prepared that it truly moved us. We enjoyed taking our time to admire and savor each dish. The hot spring water was silky and gentle, and I especially remember a light snowfall while soaking in the open-air bath. Both the property and our Room were impeccably cleaned; it was spotless and quiet, so we were able to relax deeply. Also, during a busy time before dinner, an urgent matter came up on our side; when we asked for help, you responded quickly and it truly saved us. Thank you very much—it became a wonderful trip.

    Recommended Accommodation for Solo Female Travelers

    Years ago, JR View offered a great value train + Accommodation Plan called “Nonbiri Komachi,” and ever since then I had wanted to stay at this Accommodation. For some reason, I especially admired the “Hana no Ame” Room, and after more than ten years, I was fortunate enough to finally have the chance to stay there. The Room was clean, though not very spacious—just right for a solo trip. Above all, the highlight was having a private indoor bath with free-flowing hot spring water in the Room. The joy of having it all to myself was unbeatable. If a staff member serving my meal hadn’t encouraged me to try the large public bath as well, I would have been perfectly satisfied using only the in-room bath—the water quality was that wonderful. What also made me happy was how naturally the staff treated me as a solo traveler. Even now, some Accommodations don’t say anything outright, but you can still sense their surprise (“Just one person?”) in their expressions. Here, however—perhaps because there were other solo guests as well—no one gave me that kind of treatment at all. Everyone was kind and welcoming without any distinction. That meant a lot to me and helped make my stay truly comfortable. I felt this is an ideal Accommodation for working women like me who want an occasional solo getaway. It isn’t inexpensive, but in such a quiet setting I could relax and refresh properly—and being able to enjoy something this nice once in a while made me feel ready to work hard again. If I may offer suggestions for improvement: first, there was mistaken identity at the front desk upon arrival. Since there were other solo guests, I understand how it could happen, but I noticed the same point mentioned in another Review. Unlike major facility upgrades such as adding an elevator, this seems like something that could be improved quickly. Second, it didn’t seem fully clear whether the guest had prepaid via IKYU or would pay on site. I felt it would be better to confirm this properly at check-in. That said, overall the staff were kind and made my stay very pleasant, and I would like to return. I recommend it to those who can appreciate the Accommodation’s concept. Someday, I’d also love to meet the proprietress.

    Flawless in every respect. Comfort, convenience, and cleanliness. However, I didn’t feel a sense of warmth or kindness. It is a wonderful Accommodation—clean, excellent, and perfect. I felt that way on my second stay. Precisely because it is so outstanding, I also realized that any cost-cutting or missing elements stand out more clearly. That said, this time our Room had a fireplace, and its warmth was truly soothing; spending quiet time with my wife became a very fond memory. The Onsen has a uniquely silky texture that is absolutely wonderful and is the main reason we return. The meals are very unique and impressive in how they recreate visuals to match a fairy-tale theme, but I think they would be even more meaningful if the flavors better conveyed the reasons behind the ingredients used. I believe that would make it not just about appearance, but an adult taste experience as well. Thank you very much.

    Healing Accommodation

    On the final day of our Tohoku trip, we decided to stay at this accommodation to enjoy the onsen. The gentle snowy scenery and silky onsen were truly relaxing, and both the private open-air bath in our room and the large public bath were exceptional. Dinner had a sense of storytelling, and listening to the staff's detailed explanations made us excited about what dish would come next. The beautifully crafted dishes highlighted the ingredients' natural flavors, with winter vegetables perfectly paired with sauces—absolutely delicious. Thank you for such a wonderful meal. From our arrival, through dinner and breakfast, to being seen off in the cold weather, we deeply appreciated the warm hospitality of all the staff members. Thank you very much!

    After about a year, I visited again. Upon arriving at the accommodation, the warm and smooth welcome from the staff immediately helped me shift away from my daily busyness, marking the beginning of a special and relaxing time at "Otogi no Yado." The soothing sensation of the silky onsen water and mist shower is truly satisfying, as many others have commented. Dinner features seasonal themes inspired by fairy tales, making each dish an enjoyable experience. I was excited to see what kind of cuisine would be offered this time. I deeply admire the effort put into creating theme-based menus every season—it’s truly inspiring. This time, I requested turndown service. After dinner, when I returned to my room, not only had the lighting been adjusted for a cozy evening ambiance but also towels were replaced and used glasses were cleaned—leaving everything in perfect condition. I was deeply moved by this attention to detail despite such limited time for preparation and am sincerely grateful to all staff involved in this process. I believe that every guest visiting this accommodation has different expectations or desires. For me, what makes this place special is its "heartfelt care for people." Even though it welcomes numerous guests daily, you can feel how much they value each individual visitor through their thoughtful hospitality. For instance, during a casual conversation with one of the staff members in a hallway, they remembered when I last visited—a small gesture that made me very happy. Exceptional service and hospitality; creative meals; outstanding onsen; peaceful moments filled with warmth—these are why I chose to return here again and why this accommodation holds such charm. The facilities continue to evolve as well, offering more rooms I'd love to stay in during future visits. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to all staff members and everyone involved with this accommodation. I look forward to visiting again soon and enjoying another special moment at Otogi no Yado.     An Accommodation You'll Want to Visit Again

    We stayed as a family of three and had an exceptional experience from check-in to check-out. Not only were the staff who directly interacted with us attentive, but even the cleaning staff greeted us warmly, leaving us feeling welcomed until the very end.     The Onsen is amazing! I want to recommend it to my friends who love hot springs! The atmosphere of the large bath is also fantastic! The food is great, and the rice is delicious!
