    The Matsuba crab is excellent.

    I made a Reservation with a Plan that included Matsuba crab. From the warm welcome to the attentive service, it truly felt like a long-established luxury Ryokan. The rooms were spotless, and we had a very comfortable stay. For dinner, we fully enjoyed the Matsuba crab, and the next morning we tried their famous sea bream rice. Every dish was excellent, and there was also a great selection of alcohol, making it fun to compare different drinks. I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much. I had no complaints at all during my stay, but if I had to mention one thing: I couldn’t find an outlet in the room and had to use one far from the bed. It would be more convenient if there were an easy-to-find outlet by the bedside.

    Perfectly matches the atmosphere of Matsue

    The facilities were excellent. In addition to the private bath, the public bath was not large but very comfortable, with high-quality hot spring water. The meals were just the right amount, and the flavors were very delicate. We came to love Shimane beef. The sea bream rice was a favorite for our whole family. The service was also great—staff checked in with us at the right times, and the way and timing of serving each dish were spot on. Their explanations were gentle and easy to understand. We really liked Matsue and would love to visit again.

    Well-organized and tidy.

    We stayed in a Room on the 4th floor. We were able to view Lake Shinji from both the Room and the bath, which was very relaxing. The famous garden was also beautifully maintained. I think the quality is excellent for the price. A well-organized, high-quality Japanese-style Ryokan.

    Not great.

    Thank you for your hospitality. Although we were fortunate to have good weather after the heavy snowfall, it was still a cold day. We had planned to relax in the Onsen and enjoy the scenery, but unfortunately the living room air conditioner did not work. As a substitute, we were provided with two electric heaters, but of course they did not warm the Room, so we checked out early. It was especially disappointing because we had upgraded our Room.

    Completely satisfied!

    A perfect blend of history and modern comfort, with well-thought-out Facilities and Room designs, delightful cuisine that brings joy to dining, and staff who ensure a relaxing stay—everything exceeded expectations. It’s clear that the management's strong philosophy is reflected in every aspect of the experience. The sunset over Lake Shinji was also fully enjoyed from the Room. I would love to visit again!

    A wonderful accommodation.

    It was a stay on a heavy snow day. We arrived earlier than planned after canceling our sightseeing plans, which turned out to be the right decision. The staff provided pleasant service, and the room was excellent. During our stay, we soaked in the bath multiple times and felt truly relaxed. Although it was disappointing not to see the sunset over Lake Shinji due to bad weather, we enjoyed gazing at the snow-covered garden from our room. The meals were very delicious and just the right amount for us. The specialty sea bream rice served at breakfast was also incredibly tasty. We had a slow and comfortable stay.

    Accommodation with delicious and comforting cuisine

    We stayed in a traditional Japanese-style room located within a detached Japanese garden. Our crawling baby was with us, and they were delighted with the spacious tatami room. We appreciated the staff helping us carry our luggage each time. For dinner, they kindly prepared warm udon noodles for our child upon request, which had a sweet broth and tasted delicious. The adults enjoyed crab dishes we had pre-ordered, and every dish was not only incredibly tasty but also beautifully presented—truly impressive. Breakfast was also delicious, though we felt it could have been slightly more filling.

    A charming accommodation for a relaxing and peaceful stay

    An accommodation with a fantastic location offering views of Matsue's cityscape and Lake Shinji. The interior, guest rooms, and garden exude elegance and tranquility, cherished by many literary figures over the years. Delicious cuisine and excellent onsen. A perfect place to relax your tired body after a chilly stroll and enjoy a peaceful, enriching time. Thoughtful services and attentive hospitality from the staff were also greatly appreciated.

    We wanted to stay at...

    We wanted to stay at a Ryokan in Shimane Prefecture for one night, especially since it was our wedding anniversary, and chose Minamikan for its promising scenery and cuisine. Although we were slightly concerned due to the earthquake earlier this year, the reassuring emails we received beforehand eased our worries. On the day of our stay, after visiting Izumo Taisha Shrine, we stopped by to leave our luggage and were kindly informed that our room was ready earlier than expected. This thoughtful gesture was much appreciated. During our stay, we were very satisfied with the staff's hospitality, the view from our room, the bath, and the meals provided. Initially thinking that opportunities to visit Matsue might be rare for us, we chose Minamikan hoping not to have any regrets—and this experience turned out so wonderful that we're now considering revisiting during a different season. It was truly a great trip! Thank you very much!

    I stayed at the historic Minamikan accommodation to immerse myself in the culture of Matsue. It turned out to be an extraordinary stay, filled with intelligence and tranquility that far exceeded my expectations. What impressed me most was the pride as a "literary and artistic accommodation" evident throughout the facility. Not only were the paintings and calligraphy displayed in the lounge captivating, but I was deeply moved by discovering slipware tiles at room entrances bearing room names, reflecting a deep respect for Matsue's folk art movement. Each of these intricate designs speaks volumes about this accommodation's cultural depth. The comfort during my stay is also worth highlighting. The provided loungewear was incredibly comfortable, with its soft material gently easing away travel fatigue. Despite being a luxurious space rich in design details, it felt as relaxing as home—thanks to their uncompromising attention to even tactile elements like this. From the beauty of the Japanese garden overlooking Lake Shinji to delicate and flavorful cuisine and carefully selected furnishings, every aspect conveyed their philosophy and spirit of hospitality.     It was wonderful.

    After visiting Izumo Taisha for the New Year, I stayed at this accommodation. Until last year, I used Minami in Tamatsukuri Onsen, but I chose this place because it has an onsen in the room and offers views of Lake Shinji's sunset. As a result, it was a cozy and calm accommodation where I could relax very much. I was first surprised by the fresh Japanese sweets in the room. The view from the window was also wonderful, and I enjoyed soaking in the bath multiple times while looking at Lake Shinji. The crab for dinner was sweet and plentiful, and the famous sea bream rice for breakfast was delicious as well. Although the weather wasn't great, it turned out to be a very satisfying trip. Next year, I'd like to visit again to see the sunset!

    Hospitality

    Minamikan is a Ryokan you must stay at when visiting Shimane Prefecture. I love the hospitality, the location along Lake Shinji, and the cuisine. I stayed during the busy year-end season but was able to enjoy a relaxing time with their consistent hospitality. Thank you very much.

    Before my stay, I read various reviews and noticed the prompt responses, which gave me the impression that this accommodation strives to improve continuously. My expectations were met during my stay, as it was a highly satisfying accommodation where the staff's efforts were evident. The hospitality and service were excellent, and I felt that if I worked in such an environment where this quality is maintained (or even improved), I would take pride in my work. It was truly such an admirable accommodation. At check-out, I received a letter from the staff member who guided me to my room. Previously, at another accommodation where the same person handled room service and futon preparation, I received a letter with detailed content. So this time, when receiving a letter again, I was slightly excited to see what it might contain. However, the content of this letter was more standardized. Since our interaction had been limited to guiding me to my room, there may not have been much personal experience or stories they could include in the note—this seemed understandable under those circumstances. While receiving a personalized letter is indeed a lovely gesture and something I'd be happy about if it feels meaningful or heartfelt; for standardized letters without much personal touch or detail—it might be better not to include them at all.

    As rumored, it was a wonderful accommodation.

    We stayed over the New Year holidays and were able to enjoy a wonderful New Year's thanks to the hospitality of all the staff. We are truly grateful. The meals were absolutely delicious (my spouse and I have visited quite a few famous ryokans across the whole country, but this was top-class), and we fell in love with Matsue city and the people of Shimane. We will definitely return and stay at Minamikan again.

    Thank you for your stay. The view of Lake Shinji from the Room was excellent. However, placing a floor chair facing the scenic direction made it difficult to access the bathroom, and since the bathroom and washroom are located diagonally across the Room, it was slightly inconvenient to use.

    The room was comfort...

    The room was comfortable, and the private Onsen was spacious and enjoyable. The view from the window and the garden were beautiful. The meals were very delicious, with explanations about the dishes and recommended drinks that perfectly complemented the food, leaving us very satisfied. However, there was some confusion upon arrival regarding the welcoming process. While it was nice to have our luggage carried for us, it wasn’t clear whether other passengers should head inside first or wait. Afterward, we were told to park in a designated area without proper guidance. During check-in, we weren’t sure how to proceed or what steps to follow. Similarly, at mealtime, it wasn’t clear whom we should speak to for reception. These inconsistencies gave a slightly disorganized impression; refining these aspects would make this Ryokan truly exceptional. We would love to stay here again when traveling to Matsue!

    A Gourmet Accommodation by the Shores of Lake Shinji

    We stayed in the detached accommodation, Hyouan. The weather was perfect that day, and we were deeply moved by the stunning sunset over Lake Shinji right in front of us! Minamikan never fails to exceed expectations whenever we visit. The hospitality and facilities are excellent, but the meals are particularly outstanding—each dish is carefully prepared and a delight not only for the palate but also for the eyes. Especially, their signature sea bream rice is exquisite, and we look forward to it every time we come to Matsue.

    Stunning sunset views

    This was my first stay, and I stayed in a 4th-floor room with an onsen bath and a view. I enjoyed a luxurious time watching the sunset over Lake Shinji while soaking in the private onsen bath. The meals were traditional Japanese kaiseki cuisine centered around crab, paired with local sake, which was highly satisfying. The staff's excellent hospitality made me realize why this accommodation has such high ratings. It was my first trip to the Sea of Japan side of western Japan, and staying here became the highlight of my journey. Thank you to all the staff!

    Excellent customer service

    The onsen bath in the room is compact but perfect for a relaxing soak for one person at a time. The public bath is somewhat small, which is slightly disappointing. On the other hand, dinner was delicious, and the customer service was excellent and pleasant. However, it was unfortunate that the grilled fish served at breakfast had become cold and quite hard, possibly because it had been set on the table early. There is no bar within the accommodation, but there are several drinking spots nearby that you can visit instead. This time we didn’t go out as it was too cold. Additionally, perhaps due to being an older accommodation, there were almost no outlets in the room; we had to unplug appliances like TVs or lights to use them—this could be improved. That said, considering these points overall, I think it's good value for money.

    Excellent service that catered to the needs of guests. Specifically, they opened the dining area earlier than scheduled to provide breakfast for us, who had an early departure, and made persistent efforts to secure a taxi reservation, which allowed us to use a taxi in the end. Their dedication to accommodating guests' needs was evident. The smiles and warm responses from all staff members helped us forget the fatigue of our journey.

    A Wonderful Accommodation as Expected

    When I mentioned to the boatman during the Horikawa boat tour that I was staying at Minamikan, he said, "That's the best accommodation in Matsue," and it truly lived up to that reputation—it was an exceptional accommodation in every way. The attention to detail, the quality of meals, the perfect balance of staff interaction, the comfort and view from the room—having stayed at many onsen ryokans before, this was one of the most wonderful accommodations I've experienced. The garden is also beautifully maintained and stunning. Although it's far from Tokyo, I definitely want to visit again. Thank you for a wonderful time!

    I have stayed at Min...

    I have stayed at Minami in Tamatsukuri before, and this time I stayed at Minamikan in Matsue. It was a very satisfying trip with Matsue Castle nearby and beautiful sunsets to enjoy. The meals were delicious, the room was a corner room on the second floor with an excellent location, and the sunrise was stunning—I wished I could have stayed another night. My husband and I enjoyed watching "Bakebake," explored Matsue Castle, and took a boat tour around the moat. Although it took some time to drive from Himeji, thanks to my son's driving, it turned out to be a wonderful trip. I would love to visit again. We were able to stay due to being on the cancellation waiting list.

    This is my second visit, and I still love Minamikan.

    I previously stayed at this accommodation and thought of returning to Minamikan if I visited Matsue again. This time, I was able to reserve a different room that accommodated my family of four together. The spacious Japanese-Western style room with an open-air bath was very comfortable. We enjoyed tea and sweets while admiring the view of Lake Shinji from the room (both the Japanese sweets and tea were delicious). There were plenty of towels provided in both the bathroom and toilet, which was very thoughtful. However, one small issue was that the bathwater temperature felt a bit low (I realized after returning home that I should have asked the front desk about it). The meals were also delicious, making for a pleasant trip to Matsue. Thank you for your hospitality!

    The view from the Room was amazing.

    I revisited after staying 4 years ago, as the view and service were excellent back then, and once again, the view was outstanding. I chose a plan with carefully selected ingredients in smaller portions and had high expectations, but as someone who loves shellfish, I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't even included in the sashimi. Next time, I would like to make a reservation with a different plan.

    A very comfortable and lovely accommodation.

    Located in a charming alleyway, I arrived with excitement. From the room, I enjoyed the magnificent view of Lake Shinji, and at the dining area, I admired a stunning garden while spending a peaceful and relaxing time. I believe this is an exceptional accommodation that many literary masters would want to stay at, and I feel honored to have stayed here. The meals were modern creative Japanese cuisine, and everything was absolutely delicious. If given another opportunity, I would love to visit again for a leisurely stay. Thank you very much!

    I was able to relax with my wife this time as well. Thank you very much. However, I felt that the cuisine has shifted slightly from Japanese to Western style. Rather than the number of dishes, I look forward to meals that cannot be enjoyed at home or in other hotels (such as simmered high-grade fish). I am looking forward to next time.

    A Must-Visit Destination

    The Ryokan and food were excellent. However, the aging of the facility is concerning. The deterioration and water leakage of the cypress bathtub in the room were disappointing. Matsue Castle, the townscape, and the lake were very enjoyable.

    It was a good traditional Ryokan.

    A warm welcome awaits you upon arrival with smiles and a delightful welcome tea set. The room, located in a separate building, greets you with the pleasant scent of freshly replaced tatami mats. The tea set in the room is well-prepared, creating a welcoming atmosphere alongside the staff's friendly smiles for a great start. Meals are thoughtfully prepared overall; however, the main meat dish served cold felt more like an extended appetizer, which was unfortunate. It would have been better if it were served warm. While the freshly cooked rice pot was enjoyable, it lacked the aroma of matsutake mushrooms towards the end, which was disappointing. For breakfast, while the grilled fish was cold and slightly fishy-smelling, the rice itself was delicious and paired well with flavorful clam miso soup. The view from the room was stunning; however, it remained pitch dark in the morning due to closed shutters. Although they were opened upon request, some guidance or adjustment would enhance convenience for guests. Overall, this accommodation offered excellent service and left a positive impression!
