    The view from the room is amazing!

    Relax with Panoramic Views of Lake Shinji

    In any case, the Room was outstanding. With a high ceiling in a traditional Japanese house style, it offers a spacious layout where the bedroom and tatami area lead into a living room lined with large windows overlooking Lake Shinji, creating a relaxing space where you can truly unwind. After checking in, we enjoyed the refined Japanese sweets served in the Room and felt like we could watch the changing scenery of Lake Shinji forever—it was that comfortable. The scenic-view bath in the Room was also wonderful. The water quality felt great, and even though we stayed only one night, we enjoyed bathing two or three times. Meals were Japanese cuisine made with local ingredients. The soup featuring Iwami anago conger eel and flying fish dumplings was served in an earthenware pot and then portioned into bowls at the table. The final dish was uni rice made with locally sourced sea urchin. The salted squid (shiokara) kindly provided by the head chef as a sake accompaniment was excellent as well—overall, it was food that let us savor local flavors in an unpretentious style. We felt this is an Accommodation for those who value spending unhurried time on-site.

    We were very satisfied with the attentive service and delicious food. It would have been perfect if there had been a towel rack in the restroom and pockets on the in-room loungewear. Also, we felt it would have been better if the meat dish had been served a little sooner.

    My first return in about two years. The hot spring water quality and the cuisine were wonderful and did not disappoint.

    I was so impressed during my previous stay by the delicious meals, high-quality Onsen, and exceptional hospitality that I decided to return. This time, it was a 4-night, 5-day trip for two with my mother, and we were very satisfied from the first night. Compared with our last visit, the staff member who showed us to our Room gave a rather brief explanation. Afterward, we had a few questions, so we asked another staff member. They first offered a polite apology—“We’re sorry our explanation was insufficient”—and then provided a detailed explanation. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. In particular, the Dandan beef marinated in moromi miso at dinner and the clay-pot rice at breakfast were exactly to my taste. It was also refreshing to try fresh fish dipped in sesame-salt oil. The Onsen in the guest Room could be enjoyed at any time, allowing us to fully savor its excellent quality. The non-alcoholic sparkling drink provided as an IKYU Diamond Member benefit was easy to drink and paired well with the meal. For the three-sake tasting set, I chose the Special selection this time (I chose Standard last time). Since I like trying small amounts of different varieties, it’s a wonderful option—and these also complemented the food beautifully. Shimane is such an appealing place that I would love to stay here again whenever I visit in the future. Thank you very much.

    This was a wonderful...

    This was a wonderful guest Room worthy of the “Special Suite Annex.” In particular, the Japanese-style Room facing Lake Shinji was a corner Room with a small Japanese garden, and we were able to relax while sitting on the veranda. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t go out onto the terrace due to the rain, but we were able to take our time soaking in the Onsen in the in-Room scenic-view bath while looking out over Lake Shinji. Each dish was excellent, and the sea bream rice at breakfast was outstanding.

    We were very satisfied with the Accommodation and the meals. We would like to stay again. If anything, the Yakumo train ride to Matsue was just tiring.

    If you’re visiting Matsue

    The view from the second-floor guest Room overlooking Matsue Ohashi Bridge along the shore of Lake Shinji was breathtaking. With a stone bath in the center and the bedroom at the back, it was very quiet and I slept well. I love small, intimate culinary Ryokan, so when visiting Matsue I returned to Minamikan for the first time in 35 years. I truly enjoyed its unchanged charm and calm atmosphere. I finished all of the sea bream chazuke at breakfast—delicious! I was happy to receive your handwritten letter.

    For dining at Hyotei

    Walking through the lovely garden to our Room... I was grateful for the good weather, thinking that if it had been raining, carrying a suitcase while holding an umbrella might have been tricky. Both the Room and the food were excellent. Especially at dinner, thank you for accommodating my selfish request to start at 7:30 p.m. because I wanted to go see the sunset, and for telling me where I could view it. Just one thing: I couldn’t open the storm shutters myself in the morning and felt shut in the whole time—I really wanted to see the garden.

    It was amazing!

    We stayed as a couple. The Japanese-Western style Room had a calm atmosphere, and the washbasin area was spacious and easy to use. The in-room bath was always filled with hot water, so we could soak anytime, which really helped us relax. Both dinner and breakfast were wonderful; while enjoying views of Lake Shinji and the garden—ranked 6th in Japan—we couldn’t help but savor the delicious dishes along with plenty of local sake. With such outstanding hospitality, we truly felt like a lord and lady. Thank you very much.

    A Trip for Two Women

    We chose this place because the meal Reviews were good! They were happy with the sauna and the open-air bath. I went to the open-air bath on the second floor. It felt a bit bigger than a home bathtub. The hair dryer was old... (sad) The meals were fairly tasty. I was surprised there are no vending machines in the building! The free water in the Room didn’t suit my taste, and no matter how much I looked for a vending machine, there wasn’t one... very disappointing!! Thank you for having us for one night!

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. Thanks to you, I was able to spend my birthday in a quiet, comfortable, and relaxing way. As with my previous stay, I truly enjoyed the delicious meals. I would also like to sincerely thank the Reservation staff for responding promptly and courteously to my many requests in advance. The coffee service at the Inishie Lounge Kotori was wonderful, but at certain times there was a wait, so I felt the in-room coffee machine was even more appreciated. I look forward to staying with you again on my next visit.

    A trip to Matsue for Bakebake

    We visited Matsue for my wife’s 60th birthday trip. Minamikan was a wonderful Ryokan that suited us perfectly, as we love Onsen trips. We’d love to visit again. We arrived early at Minamikan, left our car, and went for a walk; thank you as well for the sightseeing advice around Matsue from the staff member who welcomed us. Our Accommodation Room had high ceilings and felt spacious and relaxing. The large window is framed like a picture, with a lovely view of the bridge. We could also see Lake Shinji from the open-air bath in the Room, which made it very easy to unwind. The amenities were thoughtfully prepared: there were three kinds of tea—one especially nice after breakfast—and the sweets were elegant as well. The garden is excellent; you can feel the history in the pine trees. The meals were delicately seasoned from start to finish, using high-quality ingredients, and we were very satisfied. You can really tell how skilled the chef is. In the end, we’re glad we chose this place—everything was wonderful: the people, the Room and Onsen, and the cuisine. Unfortunately, we weren’t blessed with good weather this time, so we’ll save taking a boat ride on Matsue Castle’s moat and enjoying the sunset for our next visit. My wife says she’d like to come in autumn. Thank you in advance.

    I’m glad I was able ...

    I’m glad I was able to stay in such a historic Room. The view from the Room and dining while looking out over the beautiful garden were exceptional. The staff are impeccably trained—truly what you would expect from a long-established property. One small note: since it’s a historic Room, the low ceiling is understandable, but the light fixtures are quite large and I bumped my head several times. Smaller fixtures might be better.

    Warm hospitality

    My husband, who has difficulty walking, and I stayed here as an elderly couple. The in-room free-flowing Onsen bath, delicious meals, beautifully maintained garden, and the casually displayed paintings by well-known artists—all were truly impressive. Above all, we were most touched by the warm and thoughtful hospitality. We especially appreciated that staff came to our Room at check-out to pick up our heavy luggage.

    The hospitality was wonderful.

    Guest Reviews of Minami-kan

    I stayed at Minami-kan for the first time for one night the other day. The Room had a wonderful view of Lake Shinji, and the tea and sweets were delicious. I also found the bath in the Room very relaxing. The meals were beautifully presented and had an elegant, wonderful taste. Next time, I’d like to stay for two nights at a leisurely pace and enjoy a trip to Matsue.

    I had a comfortable stay.

    I stayed here with my elderly parents. We take trips using this kind of Accommodation several times a year, and in many ways it clearly exceeded our expectations. We ordered the higher-end meal option, and everything was delicious. However, I felt the sake we ordered did not pair well with the food. I would have appreciated some advice or a better way of presenting the sake list. Still, my parents were happy, and we had a comfortable stay overall.

    Create wonderful memories in Matsue

    It rained during our sightseeing in Matsue, and even the cherry buds that had just begun to open seemed to close again in the chilly weather. Even so, thanks to Minamikan’s attentive hospitality, our memories of Matsue became truly wonderful. Thank you very much. When we arrived at the Accommodation, we were greeted with “Welcome back,” and that instantly made us feel at home—an inviting start to our Hotel stay. For check-in, we sat on a sofa in the lobby and were treated to Matsue’s famous sweets, tea, and a warm towel. As someone who uses a cane, I deeply appreciated this thoughtful care. In the guest room, there were fresh Japanese sweets and three kinds of tea with different flavors to choose from depending on the day. Enjoying them while looking out over Lake Shinji felt like refined hospitality with the spirit of Lord Fumai. The bath in the room is supplied with Onsen water, and the tub is always filled. It was wonderful to have an indoor bath available anytime. The meals served at the restaurant were beautifully presented with vivid tableware and dishes; the flavors were gentle as well. We could truly feel the creativity and dedication of those who prepared them. The staff who served us also showed pleasant consideration throughout. At the shop, I found “Earless Hoichi Ear Manju.” Despite being such an elegant Hotel, it had a great sense of humor—I couldn’t help but pick it up and buy it. We felt heartfelt hospitality everywhere, making for a warm and memorable stay. To everyone at Minamikan who provided such wonderful care—thank you sincerely. We look forward to visiting again someday.

    It was a wonderful Ryokan.

    When I couldn’t decide which Room to choose, I called and received a very kind and thorough explanation, so I made a Reservation right away. Minamikan was an even more wonderful Ryokan than I had hoped for. Needless to say, the staff’s warm hospitality was exceptional, and throughout the property we felt a genuine spirit of welcome. From our calm Room, we could enjoy beautiful views of the garden and Lake Shinji, which we also savored while soaking in the open-air bath. The large public bath is compact, but no matter when we went in, we never encountered other guests—it felt like a private bath. We chose a Plan with smaller portions and an emphasis on quality, but everything was delicious and left us completely satisfied. If we have the chance to visit Matsue again, we will definitely stay at Minamikan! That’s what I thought as we headed home. Thank you very much.

    It was an exceptionally comfortable and wonderful stay.

    The bath in our Room was always perfectly prepared, and it made for a wonderfully luxurious time. The meals were filled with heartfelt hospitality, the staff member in charge of our Room was consistently attentive and reliable, and the beautifully maintained garden made every moment truly special. It was a trip inspired by a morning TV drama, and on my first visit to the San’in region, I felt very happy to have found such a wonderful Accommodation.

    We stayed here as a family. Before our stay, we received an email informing us that traffic restrictions would be in place on the day of checkout due to the Ladies’ Half Marathon, which allowed us to plan ahead and enjoy sightseeing smoothly. We truly appreciate the Accommodation’s thoughtful consideration. After check-in as well, all staff provided pleasant and welcoming service. The meals were also very delicious, and we were completely satisfied. If we have the chance to visit Shimane again, we would love to stay here again.

    An Accommodation of history and tradition, offering authentic Japanese hospitality.

    Amid the growing number of flashy “luxury Ryokan/Hotels” with excessive décor, over-the-top meals, overly attentive service, and inflated prices, Minamikan is an Accommodation that feels truly upscale yet never tries too hard to impress. Its cuisine, Rooms, and service all embody a calm, refined style of Japanese hospitality. I revisited for the first time in 20 years and was thoroughly satisfied—thanks to the thoughtful, old-fashioned service that anticipates your needs; the clean, serene Rooms that are elegant without being gaudy; and above all the delicious food, including their signature secret sea bream chazuke (breakfast), which is a must-try. This historic Ryokan has hosted many writers and artists over the years, yet it never rests on its name. I found it admirable that they continue to provide guest-focused service. With 19 Rooms—neither too many nor too few—it felt like the staff’s attention reached every corner of the property. The only disappointment was that what used to be an expansive view of Lake Shinji right in front of the Ryokan is now partially blocked by structures such as Matsue Ohashi Bridge. Even so, we were still able to fully enjoy both the sunset and the morning views over the lake. While it is an Onsen Ryokan, the large public bath is not particularly big. In return, each Room comes with an excellent free-flowing hot-spring bath sourced directly from the spring (kakenagashi), so you can enjoy bathing in private. We tried to save money and booked a Room without a lake view—but to truly enjoy both the scenery from your Room and from your in-room scenic-view bath (observation bath), I strongly recommend choosing a lake-side Room with an observation bath even if it costs a bit more.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    This was our third stay. We enjoyed the Onsen in our Room as always, and for the first time on our third visit, we also used the large public bath! We were able to relax as if it were reserved just for us. We were also very satisfied with the meal while looking out at the garden. All of the staff greeted us with smiles, so we had another pleasant stay. Thank you for the message card at checkout. We truly appreciated your thoughtful gesture. We would love to stay again.

    As I did last year, I stayed again around the same time. I simply couldn’t forget how comfortable it was. Last year I especially loved the second-floor Room “Fuyo,” and the staff member in charge of my Room said, “If you’re torn about staying on the 4th floor next time, please do come and stay on the 4th floor! It’s wonderful too!” That definitely made me curious. So this time I stayed in the 4th-floor Room I had been looking forward to—and once again, it was an incredibly satisfying stay! The view of Lake Shinji spreading out from the window, the high ceilings and spaciousness of the Room, and even the view and design of the bath were all so relaxing. The amenities and loungewear were well prepared, the bedroom was clean and comfortable—everything felt welcoming. (Both the 2nd floor and 4th floor were truly wonderful in their own ways.) This time as well, several staff members addressed me by name... Everyone is kind, but never overly intrusive. Their natural, unforced hospitality—unchanged from a year ago—felt so pleasant. It really is outstanding hospitality. They also welcomed me back, which gave me a sense of peace, almost like coming home. Dinner was just as excellent as ever—each dish was beautifully presented and prepared with great care... We also received thoughtful consideration from the head chef, and I ended up enjoying drinks again while having a wonderful time. With such a great view and a relaxed atmosphere, it felt like everything made the food taste even better. Breakfast was also delicious dish by dish—and visually delightful as well. The sea bream rice and freshly cooked rice in an earthenware pot were just as amazing as always. My friend was very satisfied too. Once again we enjoyed a truly luxurious time. Thank you very much.

    Delicious dining and exceptional service

    This was our second stay, and we stayed in the annex again as we did last time. We’re always grateful for the delicious meals and attentive service. The sea bream rice at breakfast is outstanding.

    The Matsuba crab is excellent.

    I made a Reservation with a Plan that included Matsuba crab. From the warm welcome to the attentive service, it truly felt like a long-established luxury Ryokan. The rooms were spotless, and we had a very comfortable stay. For dinner, we fully enjoyed the Matsuba crab, and the next morning we tried their famous sea bream rice. Every dish was excellent, and there was also a great selection of alcohol, making it fun to compare different drinks. I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much. I had no complaints at all during my stay, but if I had to mention one thing: I couldn’t find an outlet in the room and had to use one far from the bed. It would be more convenient if there were an easy-to-find outlet by the bedside.

    Perfectly matches the atmosphere of Matsue

    The facilities were excellent. In addition to the private bath, the public bath was not large but very comfortable, with high-quality hot spring water. The meals were just the right amount, and the flavors were very delicate. We came to love Shimane beef. The sea bream rice was a favorite for our whole family. The service was also great—staff checked in with us at the right times, and the way and timing of serving each dish were spot on. Their explanations were gentle and easy to understand. We really liked Matsue and would love to visit again.
