    If the meals and service were just one level better...

    The activities during our Hotel stay were excellent, but the dining did not feel like good value. We had dinner at the steak restaurant, and felt the balance between taste and price was poor. Also, while there were no major issues with the breakfast buffet menu itself, on the second morning we were seated at what was originally an eight-person table that had been split into separate four-person tables. Our family of three was shown to one of these separated tables, but the downlight from the ceiling did not reach our tabletop, so it was quite dark. That morning it was rainy and overcast, so there was little natural light as well. With a seating layout that didn’t align with the lighting placement and no adjustment made, we ended up having breakfast in lighting that made it hard to appreciate even the colors of the food. Families with small children seemed to be prioritized for bench seating, and we couldn’t help but feel a difference in how guests were treated despite staying at the same Hotel. We chose this Hotel expecting a certain standard, but felt the level of hospitality and service was low, making it seem like a Hotel mainly geared toward families with children. Aside from that point, it is a Hotel we would like to return to.

    Worth a visit

    I love beach resorts in Japan and abroad, and I have stayed at Haimurubushi multiple times. Because the grounds are spacious and the guest buildings are separated, you rarely run into other guests except at the lobby, restaurants, and pool, making it perfect for simply relaxing. This time I visited in February, and there were many families with small babies, groups of women friends, and couples, so I was able to enjoy a quiet, unhurried stay. After fueling up with a generous breakfast buffet, I lounge by the pool while feeling the breeze, and as the sun starts to set I begin an early beer... It’s the kind of time that lets your mind truly unwind. Whenever everyday life wears me down, this is a place that makes me want to come back to recharge both body and soul.

    The Best Stay

    This was my third time at Haimurubushi. When I said I come every four years, they told me, “Like the Olympics,” which made me laugh. The Room had been renovated, and the newly added beachfront infinity pool and sauna were great. I also enjoyed the beach activities. I rented a bicycle and went exploring—really made the most of it. The weather wasn’t great for about half the trip, but it was still relaxing. My only disappointment was that the restaurant options are limited. The teppanyaki is too expensive, and since breakfast is a buffet, I’d rather avoid a buffet dinner. I wish there were more variety in the lounge dining options. The lounge bar has an amazing sunset view. However, outdoor dining seems to use paper cartons (probably to prevent birds), and at least at night I’d prefer plates with plastic covers or something similar—otherwise it’s hard to enjoy the food. Overall, it was very good. I’ll definitely return. It’s even better value when booking through IKYU because you get extra perks.

    Back at Haimurubushi after a long time.

    After the renovation, it felt calmer than before. While keeping the relaxed atmosphere of Kohama Island, the staff were extremely courteous, and we were able to unwind and enjoy our stay. The picnic breakfast on the veranda was a wonderful experience. As we enjoyed breakfast while leisurely taking in the view, a cat appeared. It begged quite persistently, so in the end we shared some food. If we had been told in advance that “a cat might come,” we could have been prepared (laugh). We’d love to visit again in a different season.

    The Luxury of Doing Nothing

    Unfortunately, the weather during our stay was not great, so we couldn’t enjoy the blue sea or take part in activities. However, we were able to spend time exploring the Hotel and enjoying the view from our Room. I love how it feels natural and rich in nature rather than artificial.

    This is a wonderful Hotel.

    This was the highlight of our trip—the Hotel I’d been wanting to stay at for a long time. We booked a Room in the wing near the panoramic bath, but since the grounds are quite large, choosing a Plan that included a cart was absolutely the right call. In fact, I think it would have taken more than 10 minutes to walk to the beach. All meals were within the Hotel: on the first night, dinner at the grill restaurant—steak, an à la carte salad, and drinks—came to about 20,000 yen. On the second night, we had a roast beef salad and two drinks at the lounge bar for about 4,000 yen. Needless to say, breakfast was outstanding in both quality and quantity. It was cloudy both days so we couldn’t go stargazing, which was disappointing. Still, with a beautiful beach, a pool, and a spacious, comfortable Room all together, it goes without saying we enjoyed an unforgettable escape from everyday life.

    Relax and unwind.

    I’d wanted to visit Haimurubushi for many years but hadn’t been able to make it happen—at last, I was able to truly relax. Nothing is perfect, so I can’t say I was 100% satisfied, but I was grateful for the warm hospitality, and I felt it was a good Facility run in a way that makes the most of Kohama Island’s natural surroundings. The meals were delicious as well. That said, to be honest, for those who can’t drive the carts, it felt like a bit of an inconvenient Facility. By the way, I was taken aback because the lawn area that looks like a golf course at the nearby star Hotel seemed to be right next to Haimurubushi’s grounds.

    I came to Haimurubushi to see the stars.

    The Facility is very well maintained. It’s clean wherever you walk, and truly soothing. Breakfast is delicious!! There’s a great variety, too. The dining area feels spacious, with an outstanding resort vibe. The guests are pleasant as well, so it never feels noisy—perfect for relaxing. We stayed in the Garden Terrace Premium this time, and we loved the beautiful view. Next time I’d like to stay here again or try a suite. They were building some luxurious villas—can’t wait to see them finished. All the staff were truly wonderful.. It was an even better resort than I imagined. It would be even better if the water stains on the large bath windows were cleaned up a bit more. We couldn’t see the stars perfectly this time, so we’ll be back—I want to see the Milky Way in summer!!

    A soothing and relaxing stay.

    A Hotel overlooking an emerald-green sea. The Room layout is also very relaxing. At night, insects may come in, so we strongly recommend keeping the windows closed at all times, but there is also a balcony/patio. Surrounded by lush greenery, it’s very soothing. Next time, I’d like to stay for two nights.

    Thank you for the blissful hospitality, perfect for celebrating my retirement.

    We stayed for two nights in an Ocean View Bath Suite to perfectly cap off the final leg of our one-week Okinawa trip as a retirement celebration for my wife. In short, it was a flawless experience from before arrival through checkout. Room & Cleanliness The room was impeccably cleaned down to every detail—so much so that even my very particular wife was impressed. There is also a lounge in the center of the “Tida Building,” where the suites are located, and its excellent accessibility is another highlight. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great, but thanks to this convenient layout, we were able to enjoy a comfortable and relaxing stay indoors. Dining Both dinner and breakfast buffets offered an impressive variety, with thoughtful touches that kept things interesting even during our Multiple Night Stay. In particular, the course menu we had at the steak grill restaurant on our second night struck just the right balance in both number of dishes and portion size. The Ishigaki beef sirloin steak was outstanding. The quality was remarkable—especially considering the logistical challenges of being on a remote island. Service They responded quickly and courteously not only to our advance email requests regarding flower arrangements and a card, but also to last-minute requests as well. Their dedicated Shuttle Service at the port (a luxury large minivan waiting on standby for direct transfer with zero wait time) and luggage storage at their private counter at Ishigaki Island Ferry Terminal are part of a well-designed system that thoroughly eliminates travel stress. Everyone was kind and professional, but thanks especially to the exceptional hospitality from the guest relations team, lounge staff, and steak grill staff, it became an unforgettable anniversary trip. We also heard they are expanding with additional Sunset Villas, so we will definitely be back again.

    We’re sorry to hear that.

    This was my third stay, having stayed twice before. It was my first stay since the renovation. The Facility looks cleaner, but the staff training was so poor that I no longer feel this is a Hotel worth the price. 1) The Room cushion was stained with blood. 2) Some power outlets were broken and unusable. 3) When I went out at night to look at the stars and turned on the Room flashlight, it went out after a few seconds, which really worried me. I managed to light my way with my phone and avoided falling. 4) After a diving activity, I had requested a paper log, but at checkout I was handed an envelope labeled “diving log.” When I opened it, it contained a yoga invoice. 5) I tried to make coffee in the Room by adding hot water, but there was no spoon and it left me scrambling. 6) Although we had an ocean view, the window glass had stains like some strange liquid had run down it. I was told it couldn’t be removed even if wiped, which ruined the view. 7) The female front desk staff member’s attitude was so rude that it made me feel very uncomfortable. There were other unbelievable issues as well—I didn’t expect it to be this bad. It’s extremely disappointing because this used to be one of my favorite Hotels. I probably won’t go back to Kohama Island again… Next time I’ll go to Miyakojima or another Hotel with excellent service instead.

    I was able to relax and recharge.

    Although the weather was mixed, we were able to relax and enjoy our time at the Hotel. We enjoyed a slow-paced stay, including the tropical climate, conversations with the Hotel staff, and interacting with animals.

    The weather was bad, but...

    It was disappointing that the weather was bad, but the kids still enjoyed the pool, feeding the animals, and the beach. The best part was the cart—they seemed to have fun just riding around the property. The breakfast buffet was good, but for a Hotel in this class, I don’t think there were any surprises.

    My first spring in Obama (the beautiful sunrise was amazing), and the lobby concert is back!

    This was my fourth visit to the island. The staff were exceptionally kind and attentive down to the smallest details, and we were able to fully enjoy nature on the vast grounds. The pool water was cold, but we could use the sauna, and getting around the property by cart was a fresh and exciting experience for my eldest son on his first visit. When we visited last summer, I was disappointed that the concert venue had been moved to the Library Lounge and felt smaller in scale, including the sound. This time, I was surprised to see it had returned to the Lobby Lounge! I was truly moved that it felt like the lively concerts of before (I’m so glad my wish came true). I could really feel Haimurubushi’s spirit—the blend of wonderful memories on Kohama Island and music (the groove?). Every time I recall songs from the concert, scenes from our trip come vividly back to me. Thank you for giving us priceless memories that will last a lifetime—I’m still savoring them even now. Once again, our whole family thoroughly enjoyed Kohama Island. We can’t wait to come back in summer—we’re all looking forward to hearing “Welcome back.”

    We had a relaxing stay.

    I wanted to visit a remote island, and when I asked my mom friends for advice, they told me that Haimurubushi is the place to stay on Kohama Island—so I made a Reservation. There is Shuttle Service from the port, and getting around the grounds by cart means you won’t get tired. Seeing cows, turtles, and goats near the Hotel entrance was so soothing. While exploring by cart, we even came across peacocks. The Room was wonderful and the food was delicious. There’s also a bar at night, and the souvenir area is spacious and well stocked—there wasn’t a single inconvenience. On our way out, they took a commemorative photo with an eagle using my phone camera, which made me very happy. Thank you for taking such great care of us.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The Accommodation buildings are spaciously set across a large property, and perhaps because there are few guests, it was very quiet. We were able to relax while enjoying an unobstructed ocean view. The Facilities were well equipped and kept very clean, which made our stay comfortable. However, the meals are expensive, so we would have liked some lighter options at more reasonable prices.

    Reward Trip

    It was the perfect stay for our girls’ trip, which we had been planning for over six months. As soon as we got off the ferry, a pick-up car was waiting for us! During the short ride to the Hotel, we were treated to sweets and could enjoy a special touch. The Room with lounge access was almost too spacious to feel real luxury. We received service that matched the price. All of the staff greeted us with smiles at all times, and it felt like the Hotel’s training is thorough. I would love to visit again for another luxury trip.

    We stayed here as three generations of our family.

    It was my first time back at Haimurubushi in 36 years. It has been wonderfully transformed. The Facility—especially the beach, pool, sauna, large public bath, and lobby—was truly impressive! The food was also delicious. I’d like to plan another visit next year! Thank you very much.

    It was a very satisfying trip.

    Four of us (all women) stayed for two nights and three days. The peaceful time in the club lounge was the best! We enjoyed the open-air bath in our Room, so we didn’t use the public bath. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. Above all, what impressed us most was the staff’s hospitality. Not just one person—everyone, both men and women, was wonderful. As we headed home, we found ourselves wishing there were a beach on Kohama Island where you can see fish in the water. Thank you very much.

    Multiple Night Stays require some planning.

    I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of 3 nights. The Facility cleaning and staff training were excellent. What concerned me was the dining. The buffet was expensive at 8,000 yen. Since it was 7,000 yen at a Hotel on Ishigaki Island, I think that is the going rate, but it was crowded and I couldn’t get a Reservation. Also, the menu seemed to be the same every day, so I didn’t feel like going and instead ordered from the bar’s food menu. Both the quality and portion size were good.

    A paradise-like retreat

    This Facility feels like something you’d find in Hawaii. The beauty of the ocean was breathtaking. The staff were also highly capable and very pleasant. However, I found the dinner buffet somewhat disappointing. It started at 19:30, but most of the dishes were already cold, which was unfortunate.

    Stay After the Renovation

    We visited last time as a family and this time as a couple, and we were able to spend three fun and fulfilling days. The newly renovated pool and sauna were wonderful, and we truly enjoyed the meals featuring ingredients unique to Okinawa—especially dinner. We stayed one night each in two different Room types, and both had their own charms and were very comfortable. We also enjoyed chatting in the lounge. Starting the day with morning yoga left us feeling refreshed. The sheer number of stars was breathtaking—so many that we couldn’t even identify the constellations—so it was only disappointing that the stargazing tour the day before had to be held indoors. We’d love to try again next time. Thank you for three relaxing, healing days.

    Newly reopened after renovation.

    I used to visit every year for several years, but this was my first stay in two years due to the renovation. Overall, it’s still a Hotel I definitely want to return to, but there were a few things that concerned me. (For reference, my Room was in the Tida building.) ● In the large public bath, there was an elementary-school-aged girl, an elementary-school-aged boy, and their mother. None of them washed their bodies or even rinsed off before getting into the bath. I would like clearer signage in large letters such as “No photography” and “Please rinse your body before entering.” I also overheard them saying, “Is it okay to go into the women’s bath?” which made me uneasy. What is your age policy at Haimurubushi? ● Even in the off-season, all the beach chairs at the Quiet Pool were taken and the sauna was full. Private rental is possible, but given how large the property is, I wondered if something more could have been done. ● I was disappointed that the donburi corner at breakfast buffet is gone. One of my favorite parts was making my own seafood bowl with whatever toppings I liked. ● The washer/dryer became paid service. Good points ○ The infinity pool and ocean view are wonderful. ○ The feed vending machine is back. ○ The lobby feels bright and open. ○ A water dispenser was installed in our Room. ○ A welcome message and sweets were prepared for us. ○ The spa Rooms are now on the ocean side. ○ Welcome brown sugar was provided on the shuttle bus. I would appreciate it if you could consider addressing the bath issue. Despite everything, this remains a Hotel I truly love and definitely want to visit again.

    We had a great time even with strong winds and cloudy skies.

    We stayed for two nights from March 2. On the day we arrived, it was sunny and warm at 25°C, so we were able to use the beach sauna and the quiet pool. The pool had been heated until the end of February, but from March it was unheated and the water temperature was a chilly 23°C, so we used the sauna before getting in. From the next morning until departure, it was very windy with cloudy skies and light drizzle, but we still enjoyed our time while looking out at Iriomote Island from our Room. At breakfast, the food area and dining area were in separate rooms and quite far apart, so it was difficult having to carry heavy plates and drinks back and forth several times. The staff were all kind and helpful—thank you very much.

    Disappointed

    The renovated Room was clean, and all the staff were kind, courteous, and made us feel very welcome. The paths were also easier to follow during the nighttime cart ride, which was a big improvement compared to before. However, it was disappointing that the futon and pillows smelled of sweat and made us feel uncomfortable.

    Everything was simply wonderful.

    The heavenly scenery was the most beautiful of any resort I have ever visited. The Room was spacious, and even with three adults we felt no inconvenience at all. We also truly enjoyed the horseback riding experience, an activity my 77-year-old mother had hoped for. Although we weren’t blessed with good weather and it stayed cloudy throughout, we still enjoyed it more than enough. Above all, every staff member provided heartfelt hospitality, which made us feel warmly cared for. An even bigger highlight was the adorable cat visit service on the Room terrace. It’s irresistible for cat lovers. We will definitely return during a season with better weather. Thank you very much for everything.

    Relaxing Resort

    Surrounded by smiling staff, we enjoyed a comfortable resort stay. We arrived in the rain, but it cleared up at night!! We were very satisfied to see the Southern Cross beautifully from our Room terrace. The next day was cloudy, but still sunny! We explored various places and enjoyed the beach as well. With so much nature around, we truly had a wonderful time.

    A Disappointing Buffet

    I was disappointed because the dinner buffet quality was far too low. The quality of each dish was nowhere near worth paying for, and I regret not going out to eat instead. I feel the breakfast buffet was still better. I was also disappointed by the low quality at the steakhouse.

    Beloved Kohama Island

    We were blessed with great weather except on the last day—it felt like an early start to summer, with clear skies and warm temperatures. This was our second time on Kohama Island, and we had high expectations for Haimurubushi on our first stay. The warm hospitality and thoughtful care from all the staff made us decide to come back. The food was delicious as well; we chose the buffet for both nights, and there was enough variety each time that we were completely satisfied. While waiting for sunrise on the balcony, we spotted a cat, which surprised us a bit since a family member has a cat allergy—but it ended up being just another memorable moment. We truly enjoyed our stay and are already excitedly planning our next visit.

    Relax at a leisurely pace for the season.

    It was the perfect season—there wasn’t much crowding, so we could relax and take our time. Just riding around the grounds in a cart was enough to pass the time, which was great.
