    We noticed that some Asian guests displayed poor manners.

    As a Japanese person, I find this hard to believe, but this happened in the women’s spa. It seemed like they were friends, speaking an Asian language. One of them quickly undressed and waited while her friend took a long time to change. Only then did we realize they weren’t Japanese. After we finished changing, we noticed something concerning: besides a towel, she appeared to be carrying a sanitary pad as she headed toward the bath… What is going on?

    There are several elevators, so you can use them without congestion.

    Although it’s in central Kyoto, the Room is spacious and comfortable. There are also plenty of elevators, so you can ride without waiting. Just one request: I’d like the public bath hours to be extended. There is also a lounge with a great view, but if you go out for dinner and come back, you can’t make it in time. I would really appreciate it if it could be open until at least 12:00 a.m.

    We traveled as a par...

    We traveled as a parent and child. They kindly upgraded us to a Room one level above the one we had reserved, so we were able to enjoy a spacious stay. The bath was an Onsen, and we even enjoyed some beer, making for a very pleasant checkout. When we visit Kyoto again, we would like to make a Reservation here.

    The Onsen and the lounge were excellent.

    We stayed at a reasonable price at the end of summer. The Onsen and lounge on the top floor were excellent. Thank you very much.

    I visited again for the first time in several years.

    There’s no doubt this place offers a morning newspaper service (at the breakfast venue) and an Onsen (on the top floor). Highly recommended. By the way, I left behind a drawstring pouch containing souvenirs from Kawasaki Daishi. Sorry to trouble you, but has it been found and delivered to you?

    The spa is excellent.

    I stayed on Saturday mainly for the spa. Bathing hours were extended by one hour, which was a big help since I checked in at 9:00 p.m. and had plenty of time. The spa lighting was fairly dim and comfortable, and I was able to truly relax. Even around 9 p.m., the showers and washing booths were full, so I waited while soaking in the bath. The descriptions of each bath were posted at the back, which was inconvenient for me because my eyesight isn’t great. Since it was my first visit, I wasn’t sure where things like the lockers were and ended up wandering around. The ladies’ floor was comfortable, and all amenities were provided, so I had no trouble. I was happy to be able to use a ReFa hair dryer. For breakfast, I didn’t feel confident about waking up in time, so I chose the Maeda Coffee ticket Plan. At their main shop within walking distance, I enjoyed a hearty breakfast set. It was around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, but we were seated right away.

    A satisfying Onsen getaway in the heart of the city with an exceptional breakfast

    Although I live in Kyoto City, I chose this Hotel because I wanted to enjoy an Onsen and a delicious breakfast close by without traveling far. The result was a truly wonderful stay that left me completely satisfied and thinking, “I definitely want to come back!” The cute yet elegant, almost overseas-like atmosphere lifted my spirits the moment I arrived. The door leading to the guest Room floors requires you to tap your Room key card, which felt secure and luxurious. I also enjoyed the organic drip coffee in my Room as a welcome drink, and it instantly made me feel relaxed and happy. As for the Onsen—what a treat! I enjoyed it three times: in the evening, before bed, and again in the morning. I was especially delighted by the complimentary beer service at the spa lounge available with bathing until 6:00 p.m. I drank about half in the lounge and took the rest back to my Room; enjoying it while watching Kyoto’s cityscape shift from dusk into neon-lit night through the window was simply perfect. What impressed me most during this stay was breakfast! When entering the venue, as soon as the receptionist greeted me cheerfully, all of the staff inside welcomed me with “Good morning,” which instantly made me feel excited. Even though I was dining alone, their thoughtful hospitality felt warm, and I remained comfortable throughout. Every dish—Japanese and Western—was truly delicious. From freshly made dashimaki tamago prepared by the chef to Kyoto-style obanzai side dishes and detox water, I enjoyed sampling many different items little by little. Their smart service—quietly clearing empty plates each time I stood up—was also very pleasant, and before I knew it, an hour had passed as I savored breakfast. This may have been one of the most satisfying breakfasts I've ever had. Since checkout is at 11:00 a.m., it was also a great memory being able to visit nearby Rokkakudo Temple after breakfast. This is truly a treasure of a Hotel—easy to reach by public transportation, with high-quality Onsen facilities and an outstanding breakfast that leaves you feeling refreshed. I'd love to recommend it to friends around me, and I'll definitely be back myself! Thank you for such a lovely time.

    Relax in the bath

    I have stayed at the Osaka and Kobe locations many times, but this was my first time at Hotel Monterey Kyoto. On the day of my stay, I was upgraded to the Ladies’ Floor, which made for a very relaxing visit. The bath and lounge on the top floor offered complimentary beer and other drinks, and I was able to unwind completely. The breakfast was delicious, and I also liked how convenient and easy to find the location is. I would love to stay here again when sightseeing in Kyoto.

    I stay here every time.

    I always enjoy a very comfortable stay, and the large public bath with a great view is excellent every time. I rated the meals 3 stars this time only because there were many guests being guided and the service was not very attentive. It is usually 5 stars. I will stay again.

    Salt tablets

    I’ve stayed here several times. I used to look forward to a beer after using the large public bath, but this time I was given salt tablets instead of a coin to exchange for beer. I’m disappointed.

    My wife and our two daughters told me with big smiles that everything was great, except that there were too few washing stations in the large public bath, which led to a wait line.

    The convenient location is appealing, but this Hotel has room for improvement.

    The location was excellent and very convenient for sightseeing and getting around. On the other hand, some parts of the Facility felt a bit dated, which made it difficult to stay comfortably. In addition, I felt that a warmer approach from the staff would have made the stay more pleasant. The great location is a major highlight, so if the Facility and service improve a little, I think it could become an even more comfortable Hotel.

    The Hotel staff’s service quality varies. There was a minor issue after housekeeping, and I was surprised that nothing was mentioned about it at checkout. Trust is the most important thing, so this was very disappointing.

    This is a very good Hotel.

    I lost my key card, but you responded immediately. Even though you had to make two round trips, you did so with a smile and without showing any displeasure. The housekeeping staff were also very friendly and pleasant. I would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    An impeccable Hotel

    We often stay at Hotel Monterey properties in Osaka, and Kyoto is another outstanding location after Okinawa. With a large public bath as well, this is definitely an excellent Hotel!

    Both the Room and bathroom were clean, and I was able to enjoy an elegant stay.

    The spa is amazing.

    I stayed for three nights this time. It seems the parking operator has changed; the overnight rate is the same, but if you park until 3:00 pm after checkout, there is an additional charge of up to 1,300 yen. The spa is still great. I had a comfortable routine: go in in the morning, come back to the Hotel after a walk, go in again in the evening and have a beer, then head out for dinner. I also worked from my Room on some days, and housekeeping was flexible and accommodated my requests each time. I checked crowd levels from my Room, and the spa is consistently busy first thing in the morning and late at night—I experienced having to wait for a washing station for the first time. Even so, considering the location as well, it’s excellent value for money. I will stay again.

    It’s a wonderful Hotel.

    We stayed as a family. The Accommodation was clean, and we had a comfortable stay. What left the strongest impression was the staff’s support at the large public bath. Our elementary-school-aged son needed to enter the men’s bath on his own, and both he and we were a little anxious. The front desk staff kindly spoke to him and escorted him from the entrance of the men’s bath to the lockers, watching over him along the way. Thanks to that, our son was able to bathe with peace of mind, and as parents we are truly grateful and full of appreciation. During our trip, there was an incident where we felt unwell due to the heat, but thanks to such warm support, it became a wonderful memory. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the staff member who helped us that day. Thank you very much. We would definitely like to stay again when we visit Kyoto.

    Overall, I am very satisfied.

    I’ve stayed here for the Gion Festival for several years in a row. The Hotel atmosphere and all the staff were very pleasant, and overall I was satisfied. However, it seems the parking operation changed some time ago. When I left my car (and I understand it must have been difficult as several cars were backed up), there was no particular guidance about the parking fees. At check-in, I asked just to be sure what time my car could be kept until the next day, and I was told that the operating company had changed and so had the pricing system. Since there was nothing we could do about that, I paid the new rates for parking before check-in (from around 11:30) and after check-out as well (weekday daytime maximum fee x2). But when I looked again at an email I received the day before my stay, it said: “Parking is normally available from 15:00 at JPY 2,000 per night; however, on 7/15 and 7/16 only, you may use it from 12:00 for the same fee.” That was my only disappointment this time. Other than that, they were considerate in many ways (it feels like their hospitality improves every year), and it was a very satisfying stay. I’d like to stay again next year.

    Although it is an ol...

    Although it is an older Hotel, it feels clean, and the large public bath and the adjacent relaxation area—reminiscent of a sports gym—are very relaxing. The front desk staff provide excellent service and are warmly welcoming. Both Oike and Shijo subway stations are within easy reach, making the location extremely convenient for sightseeing and dining. I used to stay at Hotels around Kyoto Station, but since transferring to the Shinkansen is also easy by subway, I now use this as my regular Accommodation.

    I really enjoyed the Gion Festival!

    This was my second stay, and the Hotel is conveniently located near the subway, Hankyu Railway, and Daimaru Department Store, making it very easy to get around. I also enjoyed the first half of the Gion Festival. Thank you very much.

    The spa is unexpectedly closed today.

    The spa I was looking forward to was unexpectedly closed, and there was no draft beer either. I wish they had at least issued a voucher I could use next time... I was very disappointed.

    Work up a sweat in the sauna before peak summer!

    I had a very comfortable stay and was able to work up a good sweat before the Nagoshi no Harae day. I worked in general affairs at a financial institution in front of the Kanko-boko float until five years ago, and I believe the pullers and officials after the parade may still be using your services. Before COVID, our company’s rally was held in the Kensington Room, and that was when I first stayed here because it was too much trouble to go back to Osaka. I will visit again for another good sweat. Thank you very much.

    Around 5:30 a.m., an unexpected lightning strike caused a power outage.

    Even though there was an unexpected power outage caused by a lightning strike around 5:30 a.m., breakfast was served almost as usual, even while they said they would provide what they could. Their hospitality under such difficult circumstances was truly impressive.

    Given the low price,...

    Given the low price, I honestly didn’t expect much, but both the food and the Facility were excellent. The only inconvenience was that there were no shower caps in the large public bath, but the mist sauna and open-air bath were great. It was very crowded, so next time I’d like to choose a better time and relax. The food was delicious, so I’ll stay again when the season changes. Thank you very much.

    I will use it again.

    Convenient and comfortable for an overnight stay before work, with a great location in central Kyoto. I especially liked the large public bath and the lounge. One thing: when I used the restroom late at night, I noticed an odor coming from the drain, but it was fine during the day. I also used the parking lot, and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. This will likely become my regular Accommodation whenever I have business in Kyoto.

    The location is good, but the nearest subway exit is...

    The location is excellent, but the stairs at Exit 6 of Karasuma Oike Subway Station are tough when you have luggage. I guess that’s one difference compared with central Tokyo, where redevelopment has progressed further. During my stay, the Room and amenities were completely stress-free, and the bed was very comfortable. However, at checkout I didn’t want to use the subway again, so I asked for a taxi. It took a long time to arrive, and while I waited as instructed by the front desk, the driver came to the front desk upset because more than five minutes had passed since arrival with no passenger showing up. In the end, I barely made it to my destination on time. I assume you were busy and simply forgot to confirm, but it would be disappointing if this became a situation where guests feel they can’t rely on what the front desk says like at some overseas hotels. Please provide more attentive support for future guests.
