    I’ve been staying at various nearby hotels,

    Compared with other Japanese-style dinners in the same price range, Suiryokutei was excellent. I could really feel the chef’s dedication. I even told them it had better taste than Bra〇ton and Gra〇via. Check-in quality varied far too much depending on the staff member; the man who handled my arrival didn’t even explain the essentials. I had to call from my Room to ask. The female staff all seemed pleasant, though. This time I stayed in a 20 m² single Room. Even compared with nearby Rooms of the same size, it felt less relaxing… Having bathrobes provided is a plus. I went to the spa while it was quiet. Perhaps because it’s old, it wasn’t very soothing… I headed to the lounge early instead—this area has been renovated and is clean. Being on a high floor, the view was great. It’s rare to be able to look down on Rokkakudo Temple and Ikenobo from above. I stayed for a while with a beer in hand. Breakfast looked so different from the photos that it felt like false advertising? It wasn’t enjoyable… Then checkout—again, a male staff member who didn’t leave a good impression. Even business hotels in Kyoto can feel nicer than this. Dinner alone would be 5 stars, but breakfast brought my rating down.

    Just like Europe

    This was my first stay. The overall atmosphere and the Room made me feel like I was traveling in Europe—wonderful. This time I stayed in both a Standard Single and a Superior Single, and perhaps because the Standard Single was on the 9th floor, it had a great view and felt just as comfortable as the Superior Single. The spa was spacious and relaxing, and breakfast was delicious, especially the Kyoto-style obanzai dishes and miso soup. I’ve stayed at various Hotels around Kyoto City, but this one offers great value for money, so I plan to make it my regular Accommodation. One thing, though: I was very disappointed that the bar on the first floor didn’t offer sparkling wine by the glass.

    We had a comfortable stay!

    This was my second stay because my first visit was so great. The food was delicious, and the spa and lounge were wonderful, so I had a very comfortable time! One thing that concerned me was the smell on the floor in the spa changing room. It felt like the carpet hadn’t been cleaned, and when I entered there was a distinctive odor—almost like foot odor—which was unpleasant and disappointing. After getting clean, it was very uncomfortable to walk barefoot on that carpet. There was a line for the shower area again this time, but there was an announcement at the front desk saying it was crowded, which I thought was good. Other than that, the location is excellent and I had a very comfortable stay! Thank you very much.

    A Hotel with a Premium Spa Where You Can Relax and Unwind After Sightseeing in Kyoto

    Hotel Monterey has always been a favorite of mine for its charming exterior and interior design. I’d been hoping to stay at the Kyoto property someday, so I was glad the timing worked out. On the day of my stay, my Room was upgraded, and I had a very comfortable time. I fully enjoyed the spa three times—at 19:00, 22:00, and 7:00 in the morning. I heard there’s a lounge service where you can enjoy beer and soft-serve ice cream from 15:00 to 18:00, but I missed it due to the hours. Next time, I’d like to check in earlier and try it. There are various types of baths as well as a sauna, so it’s easy to relax and enjoy. The next morning, I used the breakfast buffet. I mainly enjoyed Kyoto-style Japanese dishes, but there was also a great selection of Western options, so guests who prefer Western food will be very satisfied too. The freshly made dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet) was especially delicious—I highly recommend trying it. There are also ingredients and menu items unique to Kyoto, which makes choosing fun. If you Reserve early (90 days in advance), you can get an excellent rate, so I’d like to plan another visit when my schedule allows. The staff aren’t overly warm or overly attentive, but their service has that typically Kyoto sense of respectful distance—which felt very “Kyoto” in a good way. Please enjoy that aspect as well.

    Definitely Hotel Monterey Kyoto!

    I stayed here at the end of July as well, and once again I booked the day before—thank you for taking care of me. As always, it was wonderful! When I soak in the hot water at the spa, it’s still hot and humid outside, so I should feel warm too—but the heat of the water really sinks in, and I realize how chilled my body is from air conditioning. Personally, I love how hot this bath is. And a draft beer in the spa lounge after bathing, while looking out at the north-side view, is simply the best! When I can’t make it there at that time, I’m truly disappointed. In the Room, there’s a women’s amenity set and a body towel provided, plus drip coffee and mineral water always stocked—these are very helpful. If you could also offer hair irons for loan, it would be perfect! Thank you for considering it. I’ll be back again whenever I want to relax.

    I enjoyed Karasuma.

    I stayed at this Hotel to visit my family’s grave. The weather forecast showed a high chance of rain, so I couldn’t do much sightseeing. Instead, I enjoyed the food around the Karasuma area. 　My impressions of the Hotel are as follows. 　I thought the parking lot might fill up, so I aimed to arrive for check-in at 3:00 PM. About an hour later, when I went out for a walk, it was already full. There aren’t many Hotels in the city center with parking, so I was glad I could park at the Hotel. 　The Room is functionally laid out, and the Facility and amenities are more than sufficient. 　For the spa, it was nice that I could check how crowded it was from my Room. The lounge is also spacious enough, and it was great to be able to relax while enjoying drinks. 　Breakfast offers plenty of salads and obanzai dishes, so you can enjoy both Japanese and Western options. They also have fruit and cake, so I could take my time and enjoy coffee as well. 　The staff included some international team members, but everyone was polite. In particular, housekeeping greeted me properly each time, which left a very positive impression. 　With parking in central Kyoto plus breakfast included at this price point, it’s excellent value for money. 　I would like to stay here again.

    We noticed that some Asian guests displayed poor manners.

    As a Japanese person, I find this hard to believe, but this happened at the women’s spa. It seemed like they were friends, speaking an Asian language. One of them quickly started undressing and waited, while the other took a long time to change. Only then did we realize they were not Japanese. After we finished changing, we noticed something concerning: in addition to a towel, they appeared to be bringing sanitary pads with them as they headed toward the bath… What is going on?

    There are several elevators, so you can use them without congestion.

    Even though it’s in central Kyoto, the Room is spacious and comfortable. There are plenty of elevators, so you can ride without waiting. Just one request: I’d like the public bath hours to be extended. There is also a lounge with a great view, but if you go out for dinner and come back, you don’t make it in time. I would really appreciate it if it could be open until at least 24:00.

    We traveled as a par...

    We traveled as a parent and child. They upgraded us to a Room one level above the one we had reserved, so we were able to enjoy a more spacious stay! The bath was an Onsen, and we even enjoyed some beer—everything felt great through check-out. We’d like to make a Reservation again when we visit Kyoto.

    We stayed at this Accommodation at a reasonable price toward the end of summer. The Onsen and lounge on the top floor were excellent. Thank you very much.

    I visited again for the first time in several years.

    There’s no doubt this place offers a morning newspaper service (at the breakfast venue) and an Onsen (on the top floor). Highly recommended. By the way, I left behind a drawstring pouch containing souvenirs from Kawasaki Daishi. Sorry to trouble you, but has it been found and delivered to you?

    The spa is excellent.

    I stayed on Saturday mainly for the spa. Bathing hours were extended by one hour, which was a big help since I checked in at 9:00 PM and had plenty of time. The spa lighting was fairly dim and comfortable, and I was able to truly relax. Even around 9 PM, the showers and washing booths were full, so I waited while soaking in the bath. The descriptions of what each bath was were posted further inside, and with my poor eyesight it was hard to read, which was inconvenient. Since it was my first time, I wasn’t sure where things like the lockers were and ended up wandering around a bit. The ladies’ floor was comfortable, and all amenities were provided so I didn’t have any trouble. I was happy to be able to use a ReFa hair dryer. For breakfast, I wasn’t confident about waking up in time for morning service, so I chose the Maeda Coffee ticket Plan. I went to the main shop within walking distance and enjoyed their hearty morning set. It was around 9:30 AM on Sunday, but we were seated right away.

    A satisfying Onsen getaway in the heart of the city with an exceptional breakfast

    Although I live in Kyoto City, I chose this Hotel because I wanted to enjoy an Onsen and a delicious breakfast close by without traveling far. The result was a truly wonderful stay that left me completely satisfied and thinking, “I definitely want to come back!” The cute yet elegant, almost overseas-like atmosphere lifted my spirits the moment I arrived. The door leading to the guest Room floors requires you to tap your Room key card, which felt secure and luxurious. I also enjoyed the organic drip coffee in my Room as a welcome drink, and it instantly made me feel relaxed and happy. As for the Onsen—what a treat! I enjoyed it three times: in the evening, before bed, and again in the morning. I was especially delighted by the complimentary beer service at the spa lounge available with bathing until 6:00 p.m. I drank about half in the lounge and took the rest back to my Room; enjoying it while watching Kyoto’s cityscape shift from dusk into neon-lit night through the window was simply perfect. What impressed me most during this stay was breakfast! When entering the venue, as soon as the receptionist greeted me cheerfully, all of the staff inside welcomed me with “Good morning,” which instantly made me feel excited. Even though I was dining alone, their thoughtful hospitality felt warm, and I remained comfortable throughout. Every dish—Japanese and Western—was truly delicious. From freshly made dashimaki tamago prepared by the chef to Kyoto-style obanzai side dishes and detox water, I enjoyed sampling many different items little by little. Their smart service—quietly clearing empty plates each time I stood up—was also very pleasant, and before I knew it, an hour had passed as I savored breakfast. This may have been one of the most satisfying breakfasts I've ever had. Since checkout is at 11:00 a.m., it was also a great memory being able to visit nearby Rokkakudo Temple after breakfast. This is truly a treasure of a Hotel—easy to reach by public transportation, with high-quality Onsen facilities and an outstanding breakfast that leaves you feeling refreshed. I'd love to recommend it to friends around me, and I'll definitely be back myself! Thank you for such a lovely time.

    Relax in the bath

    I have stayed at the Osaka and Kobe locations many times, but this was my first time at Hotel Monterey Kyoto. On the day of my stay, I was upgraded to the Ladies’ Floor, which made for a very relaxing visit. The bath and lounge on the top floor offered complimentary beer and other drinks, and I was able to unwind completely. The breakfast was delicious, and I also liked how convenient and easy to find the location is. I would love to stay here again when sightseeing in Kyoto.

    I stay here every time.

    I always enjoy a very comfortable stay, and the large public bath with a great view is excellent every time. I rated the meals 3 stars this time only because there were many guests being guided and the service was not very attentive. It is usually 5 stars. I will stay again.

    Salt tablets

    I’ve stayed here several times. I used to look forward to a beer after using the large public bath, but this time I was given salt tablets instead of a coin to exchange for beer. I’m disappointed.

    My wife and our two daughters told me with big smiles that everything was great, except that there were too few washing stations in the large public bath, which led to a wait line.

    The convenient location is appealing, but this Hotel has room for improvement.

    The location was excellent and very convenient for sightseeing and getting around. On the other hand, some parts of the Facility felt a bit dated, which made it difficult to stay comfortably. In addition, I felt that a warmer approach from the staff would have made the stay more pleasant. The great location is a major highlight, so if the Facility and service improve a little, I think it could become an even more comfortable Hotel.

    The Hotel staff’s service quality varies. There was a minor issue after housekeeping, and I was surprised that nothing was mentioned about it at checkout. Trust is the most important thing, so this was very disappointing.

    This is a very good Hotel.

    I lost my key card, but you responded immediately. Even though you had to make two round trips, you did so with a smile and without showing any displeasure. The housekeeping staff were also very friendly and pleasant. I would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    An impeccable Hotel

    We often stay at Hotel Monterey properties in Osaka, and Kyoto is another outstanding location after Okinawa. With a large public bath as well, this is definitely an excellent Hotel!

    The spa is amazing.

    I stayed for three nights this time. It seems the parking operator has changed; the overnight rate is the same, but if you park until 3:00 pm after checkout, there is an additional charge of up to 1,300 yen. The spa is still great. I had a comfortable routine: go in in the morning, come back to the Hotel after a walk, go in again in the evening and have a beer, then head out for dinner. I also worked from my Room on some days, and housekeeping was flexible and accommodated my requests each time. I checked crowd levels from my Room, and the spa is consistently busy first thing in the morning and late at night—I experienced having to wait for a washing station for the first time. Even so, considering the location as well, it’s excellent value for money. I will stay again.

    It’s a wonderful Hotel.

    We stayed as a family. The Accommodation was clean, and we had a comfortable stay. What left the strongest impression was the staff’s support at the large public bath. Our elementary-school-aged son needed to enter the men’s bath on his own, and both he and we were a little anxious. The front desk staff kindly spoke to him and escorted him from the entrance of the men’s bath to the lockers, watching over him along the way. Thanks to that, our son was able to bathe with peace of mind, and as parents we are truly grateful and full of appreciation. During our trip, there was an incident where we felt unwell due to the heat, but thanks to such warm support, it became a wonderful memory. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the staff member who helped us that day. Thank you very much. We would definitely like to stay again when we visit Kyoto.

    Overall, I am very satisfied.

    I’ve stayed here for the Gion Festival for several years in a row. The Hotel atmosphere and all the staff were very pleasant, and overall I was satisfied. However, it seems the parking operation changed some time ago. When I left my car (and I understand it must have been difficult as several cars were backed up), there was no particular guidance about the parking fees. At check-in, I asked just to be sure what time my car could be kept until the next day, and I was told that the operating company had changed and so had the pricing system. Since there was nothing we could do about that, I paid the new rates for parking before check-in (from around 11:30) and after check-out as well (weekday daytime maximum fee x2). But when I looked again at an email I received the day before my stay, it said: “Parking is normally available from 15:00 at JPY 2,000 per night; however, on 7/15 and 7/16 only, you may use it from 12:00 for the same fee.” That was my only disappointment this time. Other than that, they were considerate in many ways (it feels like their hospitality improves every year), and it was a very satisfying stay. I’d like to stay again next year.

    Although it is an older Hotel, it feels clean, and the large public bath and the adjacent relaxation area—reminiscent of a sports gym—are very relaxing. The front desk staff provide excellent service and are warmly welcoming. Both Oike and Shijo subway stations are within easy reach, making the location extremely convenient for sightseeing and dining. I used to stay at Hotels around Kyoto Station, but since transferring to the Shinkansen is also easy by subway, I now use this as my regular Accommodation.

    I really enjoyed the Gion Festival!

    This was my second stay, and the Hotel is conveniently located near the subway, Hankyu Railway, and Daimaru Department Store, making it very easy to get around. I also enjoyed the first half of the Gion Festival. Thank you very much.

    The spa I was looking forward to was unexpectedly closed, and there was no draft beer either. I wish they had at least issued a voucher I could use next time... I was very disappointed.
