    Thank you very much for the other day.

    As many guests have shared in their Reviews, this Accommodation offers truly wonderful hospitality. I work in the service industry as well, and the attentiveness was outstanding—there was a lot to learn from it. It’s a place I definitely want to return to. The open-air bath in the Room felt a bit lukewarm when I used it in the morning, so I would be happy if the water could be a little hotter.

    A wonderful Room and Onsen. It was excellent.

    My first trip with my older sister who lives in the Kanto area, our neighbor’s older sister, and just the three sisters. Since there was availability, we were kindly upgraded to a higher-grade Room. The living room felt like a Room of European royalty and nobility. I’m terrible with directions—when I thought I’d found the bedroom, it was the restroom. I could only smile wryly to myself. The Japanese-style Room was truly wonderful, with a hearth you can use and even a mizuya. It became an unforgettable trip. Thank you very much. I would love to visit again.

    A relaxing accommodation

    As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, a staff member came out to guide us. The explanations about the Accommodation were clear and easy to understand. The Onsen, with its golden color, was very relaxing. In addition to Kouunkan, we were also able to use the large public bath in the main building, including an open-air bath, which was very satisfying. Both dinner and breakfast were straightforward and pleasant without being overly elaborate. The lightly seasoned flavors were just right. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and maintained a perfect sense of distance. The konpeito candies at checkout were a thoughtful touch. We also appreciated being driven to the stone steps of Ikaho Onsen.

    It was excellent.

    It was wonderful.

    From start to finish, every interaction with each staff member was warm and welcoming. In addition to the bath in our Room, we were delighted to enjoy the baths in both the annex and the main building, making it a luxurious Onsen experience. We were surprised by how large the Onsen mineral deposits were. The Room was full of charm, and we were able to enjoy the tea sweets and meals quietly and at a relaxed pace. Thank you for such a heartwarming stay.

    The Perfect Relaxing Solo Trip for Women

    Thanks to the warm hospitality of the staff, I was able to fully relax and enjoy my solo Onsen trip without any worries. Upon returning home and reflecting, I realized that I had stayed at Kaunkan three times in the past (with my spouse, with my husband's parents, and with my own mother). It all started when my husband first heard about your accommodation from a friend in Gunma Prefecture. Although many years have passed since then, this time I stayed alone for the first time in several years and felt grateful for this wonderful connection with such a lovely accommodation. I look forward to staying again in the future. Thank you very much!

    This was my first visit to Ikaho Onsen.

    To fulfill my wife's request to "enjoy an Onsen and delicious meals," I searched for accommodation as usual on IKYU.com. Since we had never been to Ikaho Onsen, we decided to visit here. The room has a vintage feel but is clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with amenities. The bath facilities include both an open-air bath and an indoor bath, offering ample space. Soaking in the open-air bath truly melts away work fatigue. We opted for both dinner and breakfast, which were plentiful and delicious—I ended up eating too much! The timing of the meal service was perfect, and the enjoyable conversations with the staff left a lasting impression; it was truly wonderful. My partner seemed very satisfied as well—thank you for your hospitality!

    Golden Hot Spring

    The bath in the main building next door had a higher "golden hue" (laughs). However, since the neighboring accommodation is larger, the bath tends to be crowded and there are often foreign guests, so it has its pros and cons. On the way back from next door, I got lost not knowing which door to open (perhaps they hide it to prevent people from wandering between the main building and annex?). The staff were all friendly and shared interesting information such as why Onsen Manju is brown, details about its origin at a specific manju shop, shuttle service to nearby spots, as well as recommendations for a simple yet charming manju shop. It made exploring Ikaho town enjoyable. I also appreciated having various drinks available in the room! (IKYU Diamond Benefit)

    This is my second stay this month.

    I stayed here 10 days ago as well. This is a gourmet accommodation where you can always enjoy a relaxing and wonderful time no matter how many times you visit. This time, I stayed in the "Hana no Ma" room. The room was impeccably clean, had a great sense of cleanliness, and was very relaxing. The meals were adjusted so they wouldn't be the same as 10 days ago, and both the presentation and taste were absolutely satisfying! I left feeling completely full. The onsen features luxurious free-flowing "Golden Water," which warms your body to the core. This is a lovely onsen ryokan that makes you want to visit again and again.

    A warm and heartfelt accommodation

    For several years, I have gifted my parents an onsen trip three times a year. We have stayed at Kaunkan for occasions like Mother's Day and Respect for the Aged Day. Last year, we celebrated their birthday at Kaunkan as well, and they were very pleased, so we chose Kaunkan again this year. It is their favorite accommodation. The "Ougi no Ma" room is a bright and luxurious Japanese-style room with a clean atmosphere, allowing for a relaxing stay. For meals, the staff kindly prepared an alternative cooked dish for my mother who cannot eat raw food, and everything was deliciously finished to perfection. She especially loved the fugu shirako chawanmushi with silver sauce topping—she said it was incredibly creamy and delicious! She was very satisfied overall. The onsen facilities are thoroughly cleaned and maintain excellent hygiene standards with plenty of amenities available; they said it left their bodies feeling warm and refreshed. We already have a reservation in April next year when my parents will visit again. This is truly a heartfelt ryokan that makes you want to return repeatedly—a perfect gift idea for someone special!

    This is a wonderful Ryokan.

    This was our fourth visit to Ikaho, and although this Ryokan is a bit far from the Stone Steps Street (uphill on the way there, which can be tiring, but downhill on the way back so no problem), we felt warm and kind hospitality, including shuttle service and sightseeing guidance. For us, this is the number one in Ikaho. Thank you to the female staff member who gave us various sightseeing advice (sorry, I forgot your name)! The Onsen was excellent; however, it was a bit disappointing that the bath in our room and the main building's open-air bath used heated water. The indoor bath had an amazing Onsen!

    Kounkan was amazing.

    The parking lot next door and the castle-like gate were impressive. The rooms were spacious with various options, which was fantastic. The large public bath with golden water was excellent, but it would have been even better if the private open-air bath in the room had Onsen water. The meals were very good, but since later dining times were fully booked, it was a bit tough after strolling and snacking in the stone-paved street. The staff's hospitality was very polite and left a great impression. Overall, I was extremely satisfied!

    Bathtub

    The quality of the hot spring in the large bath was excellent. The Room also had a private bath, but the sound of water bothered me and woke me up at night. I requested to stop the water, but it seemed difficult to do so. A board was placed over the bathtub as a solution, but unfortunately, I still found the sound distracting.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    We stayed for one night and two days. As soon as we parked our car, a staff member from the accommodation greeted us and guided us, leaving a great first impression. We stayed in the "Ougi" room, and the staff maintained a perfect balance of attentiveness while guiding us. According to the 6th-generation proprietress on their website, they aim to move away from traditional ryokan styles and create a new type of accommodation experience. Guests can enjoy their stay freely while still receiving attentive service. It was our first visit, but over the two days, we truly appreciated this concept—it was incredibly comfortable. The meals were delightful; the sashimi was fresh, and dishes prepared by the head chef conveyed care in both flavoring and presentation. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The hot spring experience included Ikaho's precious golden onsen water (Kogane no Yu) as well as an indoor bath in our room with heated water filtered through Bakuhanseki stones—both offering an authentic onsen atmosphere. I learned that Ikaho's golden source is limited (50 tons per second) and shared among facilities through cooperative efforts. This made me deeply appreciate staying at such an effort-driven onsen accommodation. Upon departure after check-out for sightseeing, we were warmly seen off by staff members—a gesture that left us feeling reluctant to leave such a wonderful place. Honestly speaking, it felt like finding a truly special accommodation. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    Stylish and Modern Japanese Accommodation

    It is a bit far from the stairs, but we were kindly driven to the Onsen town by car. With only 10 rooms, each room has its own unique charm, offering excellent interior design, amenities, and comfort. The courtyard is beautiful with lit torches, and the lobby provides a relaxing atmosphere. Meals were served in private dining rooms for a leisurely experience. We also enjoyed using the main building's bath facilities. The private open-air bath in our room was wonderful as well. The hospitality was excellent too.

    A two-person trip to Ikaho after a long time, with my friend excited for their first visit. We appreciated the service allowing parking before check-in, and as we parked, a staff member kindly offered shuttle service to our destination. Such thoughtful hospitality is rare and truly impressed us. At check-in, the staff provided detailed explanations. For first-time accommodations, it can be confusing at times, but this time we felt completely at ease. We were guided to our room where we enjoyed tea with sweets and pickles before relaxing in the onsen until dinner time. The dedicated footwear storage at the onsen entrance was a delightful touch that ensured peace of mind during bathing without mix-ups. Staying in an annex allowed us access to the main building's onsen as well, letting us enjoy two different types of hot springs—a definite highlight! Dinner featured creative dishes like fried items coated with crushed rice crackers (kaki no tane), which were incredibly delicious and left both of us amazed. Breakfast was equally impressive with a wide variety of dishes including spicy-seasoned natto wrapped in bamboo leaves—an eye-catching presentation—and individually cooked rice served from small pots added extra joy. All staff members were genuinely kind and hospitable throughout our stay, making it an unforgettable experience. This is definitely an accommodation we'd love to revisit!

    The hospitality was excellent.

    The public spaces, such as the lobby, had a sophisticated and lovely atmosphere, but the room retained a somewhat dated feel. The meals were average, neither particularly good nor bad, with flavors that might be slightly mild. The staff were generally kind and stood out for their excellent hospitality. Reaching the Ikaho steps involves a steep slope, which might be challenging to walk. While shuttle service is available, it may not be ideal if you wish to go out casually at night.

    The staff are excellent.

    I stayed for one night with my mother in the "Tsuki" room. The most impressive aspect was the exceptional hospitality of the staff. In addition to regular shuttle service, they provided a special trip just to store our luggage. During dinner, when I mentioned that long waiting times might make me too full to finish my meal, they adjusted the serving pace perfectly. Every staff member was kind and attentive, which made our stay wonderful. The bath was a natural onsen with perfect water temperature, and we were also able to enjoy the main building's facilities. As for areas of improvement: - The room key was difficult to turn. - The bathroom in the room did not use onsen water. - Occasionally after using the toilet in our room, water would continue running slightly and neither flushing nor using the bidet function worked afterward. - In the large public bath's changing area, when overlapping with other guests, it became inconvenient as placing baskets side by side blocked others from using them due to single-opening doors. Regarding the changing area, it might be more user-friendly without single-opening doors. As for toilets, inspections may be necessary. Despite these points, this being my first trip to Ikaho Onsen turned out relaxing and enjoyable thanks to staying here! I'm glad I chose this accommodation!

    Luxury Accommodation in Ikaho

    I had always wanted to visit Ikaho Onsen. I chose Kaunkan as my accommodation because of its reputation for delicious meals. Although I selected the "Room by Assignment" plan, I was given a spacious room with a grand traditional curtain that felt fit for royalty. The room was impeccably clean, and I enjoyed relaxing in the private open-air bath. The meals, which I had been looking forward to, featured beautifully presented seasonal dishes like fig jelly and sweetfish, all prepared with care and absolutely delicious—I finished every bite! Additionally, when asking the staff for recommendations on shops or sightseeing spots, they kindly provided thoughtful advice that made my trip to Ikaho even more wonderful. There are too many great things to mention here, but this experience made me fall in love with Ikaho Onsen. I definitely want to visit Kaunkan again!

    Accommodation Services

    In June, I received a call from the accommodation. I assumed it was a confirmation call for my stay, but to my surprise, they informed me that my reservation was actually scheduled for that day. I panicked because I had mistakenly canceled the original date and planned to stay on another day. Upon checking, it turned out that I had made the booking through a different site and the cancellation hadn't gone through. Since I didn't see the reservation on one site, I booked again for another date. Normally, I would have been required to pay 100% of the cancellation fee, but thanks to the accommodation's kind arrangement with the website, no cancellation fee was charged. When I stayed there six days later, they were very considerate and even asked about how their phone response had been handled—so much so that it made me feel humbled. Thank you very much!

    We visited as a fami...

    We visited as a family of five. It was my mother-in-law's birthday month, and she was very pleased. We were able to relax and enjoy the onsen. The meals were delicious, and while some reviews mentioned smaller portions, we found them to be sufficient. The staff's hospitality was very warm and welcoming. The next day, they kindly gave us a ride to the original hot spring source area, making it easy for us to get there. This has become one of the accommodations we would love to visit again!

    Exceptional Hospitality

    We stayed as a group of three adults. Upon arriving in our private car, the staff immediately assisted us, and even though we arrived well before the check-in time, they kindly drove us to the upper part of the stone steps area with the accommodation's vehicle. From start to finish, we experienced exceptional hospitality. The most impressive part was dinner—the dishes were exquisite, with flavors and aromas perfectly enhanced while keeping salt content minimal. We would love to visit again!

    A truly wonderful accommodation.

    It was an exceptional stay, offering quality far beyond what the accommodation cost suggested. The room with an open-air bath was fantastic, and the entire accommodation provided a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Meals were served in a private dining space of about 20 tatami mats, allowing us to enjoy a luxurious experience, and the dishes were outstanding. One particular dish, similar to chawanmushi, was exquisite and unlike anything I had ever tasted before. The only downside was that the large public bath did not have an open-air bath; however, guests can use the open-air bath at the main building of the group facility. The staff provided warm hospitality throughout our stay. Overall, I felt that we received service worth many times more than what we paid for our accommodation. With accommodation costs rising across the whole country recently, I would love to continue staying at places like this in the future.

    Great bath, excellent service, delicious food

    I have stayed in Ikaho several times, but this time I chose this accommodation based on the reviews, and it was absolutely the right choice. As the title suggests, no complaints at all. Despite being reasonably priced, I enjoyed the luxury of in-room dining. Above all, I was impressed by the golden bath. The meals were perfectly portioned and delicious. Every staff member provided courteous service. It was such a great experience that I plan to stay here again with my friends next time. Looking forward to it!

    This place is heartfelt and warm.

    I am a repeat guest. Since my first stay last September, this accommodation has become a favorite of my parents. We stayed in the "Ougi Room" for Respect-for-the-Aged Day in September, the "Hana Room" for a birthday in December, and this time for Mother's Day. My parents always request to come back, saying, "This place is heartfelt and warm. Let's visit again." I am truly happy they enjoyed it and glad I chose this place. The hospitality was excellent, with attentive service that made their stay very pleasant. They said the meals were delicious and exciting every time. The room was upgraded to the "Ginkaku," which was luxurious, spacious, and allowed them to relax comfortably. We will definitely return again.
