    Unmatched hospitality

    Due to a typhoon, our planned trip was suddenly canceled, so we decided on Ikaho Onsen, which is easy to reach from Tokyo. It would probably be hard to make a Reservation under normal circumstances, but since it was a weekday, we were able to book. Just as the Reviews said, everything was wonderful—the meals, the baths, and the service were all attentive and truly pleasant. Even though it was a last-minute Reservation, they adjusted my meal during pregnancy as well, which gave me peace of mind. I immediately recommended this Accommodation to my family! This is an Accommodation I definitely want to stay at again!

    This is my favorite Ryokan.

    I’m a repeat guest and have stayed about 10 times. This is my favorite Ryokan. I also recommended “Kounkan is great” to my daughter and grandchild. They already have a Reservation and will be visiting from this Friday. This time I stayed in the Kaze Room. It was a wonderful Room, and I was able to relax at ease. The meals were delicious as well. Last time, when I visited in June, the large public bath was under construction so I couldn’t use it, but this time I fully enjoyed it. It warmed me up nicely, and I was very satisfied. I’ll visit again. Thank you very much.

    It was very comfortable.

    The staff’s hospitality, the spacious Room, and the meals made this a very satisfying Accommodation. They drove us to Ikaho Shrine and also lent us a wheelchair for my daughter, who had difficulty walking due to a muscle strain. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious with just the right portions. The Onsen was wonderful, especially the golden-colored water. Next time, I’d like to stay in a different Room rather than the VIP annex.

    We had a very satisfying stay, surrounded by nature and enjoying delicious meals.

    We stayed as a couple. The Room had a wonderful atmosphere, and we could feel the Onsen and the sounds of nature, which helped us truly relax. Dinner was especially outstanding! Everything was delicious, but the meat sushi, fried chicken, and mead we ordered for an additional fee were all beyond our expectations—we were impressed. We also appreciated the 11:00 check-out time, which allowed us to enjoy a relaxed morning without rushing. It was a lovely Accommodation that made us want to visit again in a different season. Thank you!

    Consistently courteous and pleasant service throughout your stay.

    Everything—from the meals and the Room to the amenities and hospitality—was outstanding, and we were completely satisfied with our stay! The open-air Onsen bath in the Room was incredibly convenient, as we could soak anytime we liked, and it felt wonderfully luxurious. Also, because this Accommodation has only 10 Rooms, we rarely crossed paths with other guests at “Owl no Yu,” so we could relax and enjoy the Onsen as if it were private. The kaiseki dinner was exquisite across the board. In particular, the miso-glazed eggplant (dengaku) and steamed eel rice left a lasting impression—they were truly delicious. You could really tell each dish was prepared with great care, and we enjoyed every bite to the very end. Breakfast was also excellent. It was my first time trying Nanban natto, and I liked it so much I wished I could take some home. The rolled omelet was fluffy and delicious as well. From the cuisine and Onsen to the Room—and above all, the heartfelt service from all of the staff—this was a wonderful Accommodation that satisfied us in every way. If you’d like to unwind in an Onsen while enjoying a drink and spend a relaxing holiday forgetting everyday fatigue, this is exactly the right place. We would love to visit again!

    Perhaps because we stayed on a weekday, the Facility and staff were not rushed, and we were able to relax and enjoy a leisurely time. The food was delicious, and we were very satisfied with Ikaho’s Golden Hot Spring. Ikaho has steep slopes, but the Shuttle Service drove us up near the top of the stone steps, so we could enjoy them comfortably. The staff were kind as well, making it a wonderful stay.

    An Accommodation offering warm hospitality from start to finish

    I stayed here again for the first time in two years. To my surprise, they had looked up my previous stay and prepared a yukata in the perfect size. The Onsen had soft, soothing water, and I was able to relax at length. The meals were carefully crafted with thoughtful touches and were truly delicious. While I was relaxing on a bench in the courtyard, a staff member kindly spoke to me and brought lounge drinks. Even when passing staff in the hallway, everyone greeted me warmly, and I could really feel their spirit of hospitality. It was wonderful to forget my busy daily routine for a while and spend time slowly and comfortably. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful A...

    It was a wonderful Accommodation. The staff were very attentive and kind, and the Onsen was great as well. We were told that dinner featured dishes carefully selected by the proprietress, and everything was so delicious that we were truly impressed! The corn soup that looked like a draft beer was cute, tasty, and my favorite (haha). Thank you very much!

    This is not a luxury Ryokan.

    I made a Reservation expecting a calm, slightly luxurious adult experience, but the Room was flashy and seemed geared toward inbound tourists or social media photo ops. The food also felt like gimmicky “concept” dishes, which left me a bit confused. Perhaps because it was summer, most dishes—including the main meat—were served cold, and the grilled fish was undercooked. On the other hand, the service from the experienced staff was professional and cheerful.

    We arrived earlier than the check-in time, and they kindly drove us to the Stone Steps Street, which was a great help in the heat. The Japanese-style Room was very elaborate and lovely, but since we stayed for a long time, we would have preferred a bed if possible. The meals were delicious in a spacious private dining room, and we received heartfelt hospitality. Perhaps because the number of guests is limited, we were able to relax and spend our time at ease. Every staff member was refined, and it felt wonderful to see how much they love this Hotel. Thank you for a truly luxurious stay.

    A welcoming Accommodation with exceptional hospitality

    My first time in Ikaho Onsen, and I’m glad I chose this Accommodation. The Shuttle Service, meals, and hospitality in every situation were outstanding. The food was delicious and I was very satisfied. In addition to the free-flowing natural Onsen, the Room’s artificial bath with Bakuhan-seki stone was also great—my skin felt smooth and I warmed up from the core. The only drawback was that the Wi‑Fi in the Room was hard to connect to. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to visit again when I get the chance.

    Pros and Cons

    What was good... I really enjoyed the Golden Hot Spring. I was also able to relax and use the large public bath in the main building in the morning. The Room was thoroughly cleaned, and I had a very comfortable stay. All of the staff, regardless of their role, were wonderful and provided heartfelt service. What was disappointing... Even considering it was an early-summer menu, all of the dishes were served cold. I would have liked at least one warm dish that felt comforting. I was told to pour the sauce from the Dutch-style simmered dish over rice, but cold sauce did not go well with warm rice. The Akagi Wagyu served in an ice-cream cone was questionable. I just wanted to enjoy it in a simple, delicious way... If I visit again, it will be in a different season. (The konjac pudding daifuku I bought as a souvenir was exquisite.)

    A Great Onsen Accommodation

    This Accommodation is perfect for Onsen lovers. You can bathe all night, and you also have access to the baths at a neighboring affiliated Accommodation, so you won’t get bored. The Room was spacious and came with an open-air bath, allowing us to relax and unwind. The meals were excellent as well—each dish was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The staff were wonderful, and we will definitely return.

    Confused by the discrepancy with the Review

    The service was very good, but the meals were confusing. The main dish was meat stuffed into an ice cream cone, and I couldn’t eat it. Stains were noticeable in places on the Room walls as well. I chose this place because the Reviews were good, but it was extremely disappointing.

    This is the best accommodation!

    This was my first stay here. After reading the highly rated Reviews, I arrived with high expectations—but every aspect far exceeded them. I had booked a Plan with in-room dining (low table), but when I informed you in advance that I have lower back pain, you set up a table and chairs in the Japanese-style Room, so I could enjoy a delicious meal in my Room without any discomfort. In addition, you even brought in a simple bed into the Japanese-style Room, allowing me to rest comfortably as well. The cuisine was outstanding; even the soy sauce was carefully handmade over time, and the head chef’s attention to detail could be felt throughout. With elements of French cuisine incorporated, it was “bold” cooking in the best sense—and I was truly moved as I enjoyed every exquisite dish. The service was also flawless—truly attentive and thoughtful in every way. Another favorite Accommodation has been added to my list—one I want to visit again and again. Thank you very much.

    We made wonderful memories.

    We stayed here to celebrate my mother’s 95th birthday. For my mother, who has difficulty walking, we chose a Plan where dinner and breakfast were brought to our lovely Western-style room called “Ginkaku,” allowing our family to relax and enjoy our meals in private. Everyone was truly wonderful—the staff who welcomed us, those who delivered the meals and explained everything, and all who looked after us. Their kindness and thoughtful attention impressed us deeply. After checkout, they kindly took us around the highlights of Ikaho Onsen in the Hotel car and provided explanations. This became the best gift for my mother, who had visited Ikaho many times when she was younger. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

    Everything—from the ...

    Everything—from the Accommodation’s atmosphere (entrance and lobby) and staff to the Room, baths, and services—was thoroughly satisfying. In particular, dinner was not only a quiet and enjoyable experience in a private room with a tokonoma alcove, but the attendant was also exceptionally pleasant. They sincerely answered our questions—sometimes even looking things up on the spot—about local topics and the water quality of Ikaho Onsen, making it a truly meaningful time. It’s also conveniently close to the Stone Steps Street, so this is one Accommodation I can recommend with confidence.

    Underground Parking Garage

    I really like the food here, so I stayed again after my visit in March. The breakfast is also nicely delicious.　　　　However, there was a problem this time. The underground parking lot is narrow, with many large pillars. Many spaces are arranged for three cars per bay, but because of the layout, a thin plastic pole (about 5 cm in diameter) had been placed to discourage parking in the middle spot of a three-car bay. There were two such bays. While backing into the space in this tight parking area with limited visibility, I hit that pole after I had already backed partway in. If a cone had been placed at the entrance to block access, I would have understood not to enter, but this was a movable pole positioned where my car was already halfway in, so it was impossible to avoid. The manager said there was no pole and that cones had been placed, but it was disappointing that they did not understand that the issue was the pole being in the middle of the space. Once this unpleasant feeling fades, I may stay again for the food...

    Enjoy birdsong and the Onsen together.

    It was a 30-minute taxi ride from Shibukawa Station, which felt a bit inconvenient, but it was convenient for sightseeing in Ikaho. I appreciated being given a ride by car to the famous stone steps. On the way back from the stone steps, I was able to walk back downhill. The staff were kind, and the historic Onsen was very nice. I could clearly hear birds chirping from my Room, which was lovely. The meals did not meet my expectations. Thanks to IKYU, the drinks in the refrigerator were free of charge. Thank you very much.

    I was impressed by the “Fan” room’s fan-inspired design.

    Through the lobby’s glass, a modern square courtyard catches the light, with two braziers reflected in the shallow water—an eye-catching sight. The restroom behind it is called a “snow-in,” reached by passing through a noren curtain—an arrangement that hints at this Accommodation’s heritage, founded in the Bunkyū era of the Edo period. My wife read straight through *Akinaiseiden*, a story featuring an Edo-period woman merchant as its protagonist; I was about halfway through when we stayed two nights in the Fan Room. The washbasin, outlet covers, and even the toilet paper holder feature deep crimson with gold fan motifs; the transom is cut into fan shapes, and splendid fan paintings are scattered across the ceiling. Pure luxury. We were warmed by the iron-oxidized reddish-brown cloudy waters known as “Kogane no Yu.” Since it was Monday to Wednesday at this 10-room Accommodation, we had it all to ourselves—another indulgence. We also enjoyed inventive Japanese cuisine with completely different dinner and breakfast menus over two days: outstanding soup stock in the bowls, impressive knife work on finely shredded vegetables, and even choosing a French-inspired main course with a creative twist. To everyone who took care of us—the manager who picked us up at the Ishidan-gai bus stop with just the right level of courteous hospitality; Ym-san and Hd-san for attentive in-room dining service; Hs-san for kindly offering my elderly wife (resting on an uphill walk during shopping) a ride by car to the convenience store; and the person who drove us to the Ishidan-gai bus stop despite being on lunch break—thank you very much.

    As a chef myself, I’m quite particular about food, but the dishes served here showed the chef’s unwavering commitment—never cutting corners—and a thoughtful attention to detail aimed at pleasing guests. I was truly impressed.\nThere is no elevator, only stairs, so it may be inconvenient for wheelchair users or guests with limited mobility. At times it also felt somewhat understaffed, but overall this is an Accommodation I can recommend to many people.

    A Cozy Accommodation

    When we parked and were about to head to the stone-step street, they kindly offered to drive us there, which made a great first impression. From then until checkout, we had a very pleasant stay. The meals and the Onsen were excellent, and although the in-room open-air bath looks small, it was surprisingly spacious and relaxing. It’s not flashy, but with only a few rooms it’s quiet and calm—an Accommodation we’d love to visit again.

    Simply wonderful.

    From the moment I stepped into the Ryokan, the hospitality and service were outstanding, and the Room was clean and comfortable, allowing me to spend a relaxing time. Dinner was also very satisfying, and the local specialties were especially delicious. Since there are only a limited number of Rooms, I hardly ran into other guests and felt like I could truly relax in my own way.     I stayed here again.

    I stayed for one night last year and returned again this time. Because there aren’t many Rooms, the hallways and lobby never felt crowded, so we could relax without worrying about other guests. The staff also provided warm and attentive hospitality. At both dinner and breakfast, the seating was arranged so we couldn’t hear nearby tables, allowing us to enjoy our meals comfortably at our own pace. The food was just as delicious as last time, with well-balanced portions that left us pleasantly full and satisfied. This time we added the all-you-can-drink option until 8:00 p.m., which made it feel extra special. We could request refills in our Room whenever we wanted, so we enjoyed it at our own pace. There was a great selection of local sake from Gunma Prefecture. After 8:00 p.m., drinks are limited to what’s in the refrigerator, but we were too full to finish them all—another sign of how satisfied we were. The bath had beautiful golden water, and since it never got crowded, it felt almost like a private bath. We also made full use of the in-Room bath and the open-air bath in the Room, making it a very satisfying one-night, two-day stay. We’d love to visit again when we have the chance.

    Thank you very much for the other day.

    As many guests have shared in their Reviews, this Accommodation offers truly wonderful hospitality. I work in the service industry as well, and the attentiveness was outstanding—there was a lot to learn from it. It’s a place I definitely want to return to. The open-air bath in the Room felt a bit lukewarm when I used it in the morning, so I would be happy if the water could be a little hotter.

    A wonderful Room and Onsen. It was excellent.

    My first trip with my older sister who lives in the Kanto area, our neighbor’s older sister, and just the three sisters. Since there was availability, we were kindly upgraded to a higher-grade Room. The living room felt like a Room of European royalty and nobility. I’m terrible with directions—when I thought I’d found the bedroom, it was the restroom. I could only smile wryly to myself. The Japanese-style Room was truly wonderful, with a hearth you can use and even a mizuya. It became an unforgettable trip. Thank you very much. I would love to visit again.

    A relaxing accommodation

    As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, a staff member came out to guide us. The explanations about the Accommodation were clear and easy to understand. The Onsen, with its golden color, was very relaxing. In addition to Kouunkan, we were also able to use the large public bath in the main building, including an open-air bath, which was very satisfying. Both dinner and breakfast were straightforward and pleasant without being overly elaborate. The lightly seasoned flavors were just right. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and maintained a perfect sense of distance. The konpeito candies at checkout were a thoughtful touch. We also appreciated being driven to the stone steps of Ikaho Onsen.
