Unbelievable accommodation—I will never stay here again.

Despite charging this much, “terrible” is the only word for it. We booked a room with a private open-air bath, and that was the only good part—but even there, the mirror was fogged up and the floor was dirty… There were many foreign staff members and many shortcomings. Even though we had a Multiple Night Stay, the meals were mostly similar and not tasty. At breakfast, when my husband asked for a second serving of miso soup, both times it came back with no ingredients—unbelievable. I simply don’t think this is a Hotel that should be charging these rates. The staff, the Facility, and the food—there wasn’t a single good thing. To make matters worse, at checkout they got our bill wrong and almost overcharged us by tens of thousands of yen! It wasn’t priced at the IKYU rate; when I pointed that out, it took even more time to confirm it, and the attitude of the middle-aged woman at the front desk was extremely rude. When I asked to speak to someone in charge, that person was also foreign—no surprise there. I will never go again. I honestly don’t even want this listed on IKYU. I’ve stayed at many Hotels and Ryokan over the years; this is without question the worst one ever. I do not recommend it. There are many steps inside as well, making it an unfriendly layout for guests who are unsteady on their feet. This was my first time paying so much money and feeling this uncomfortable. I was so angry that I thought I’d wait until I calmed down before writing anything—but for other guests’ sake, I’m leaving this review after all.

It was full of things we loved.

Everyone on the staff, including the front desk team and the attendants, was kind and welcoming. My husband especially remembers being spoken to in the lobby. There were so many things we liked. The Onsen had excellent non-slip measures in place, so we could enjoy the baths safely. For karaoke, our name was posted, so we didn’t have to worry about other guests peeking in. It was also convenient that all the Facilities we wanted to use were grouped together on the second floor, making it easy to get around. There’s too much to list here, but we would love to visit again.

It was truly awful. I will never stay there again.

The service at check-in was terrible, with staff constantly wearing a smirk and frequently chatting among themselves. The worst part was at dinner: although we had informed them in advance about a food allergy, we were told they “hadn’t been told.” No matter how many times we explained that we had notified them, they refused to accept it. In the end, we reluctantly tried to compromise and asked for an alternative meal, but they insisted they couldn’t handle last-minute requests and told us to just eat it as is. Even after we explained that eating it could be life-threatening due to the allergy, we were kept waiting for over 10 minutes each time after being told “Please wait,” and this happened three times. Finally, someone who seemed to be the manager came and said they ultimately could not accommodate us. We were again told that they hadn’t been informed and that it was our fault. They said there would be no refund, and despite charging an expensive meal fee, they would only provide another meal for an additional charge—if we wanted it, we had to order within 10 minutes. After making us wait over 30 minutes, nothing changed from their initial stance, and what should have been a special trip turned into a truly awful experience. At JPY 250,000 per night for one night, it was nowhere near worth the price. Everything about Hakone-Yumoto was disappointing; this experience reaffirmed for me that Hakone is only worth staying in areas like Gora, Moto-Hakone, or Sengokuhara. Of course this is my personal opinion, but if you are considering staying at Hakone Yumoto Hotel Kajikaso (Hotel), I strongly recommend against it—I can say with confidence you will be more satisfied elsewhere. I will continue telling everyone around me never to stay at Kajikaso again.

This is a very nice accommodation.

Since we took an early-morning Romancecar train, we stopped by first hoping to just leave our luggage. They completed the check-in process on the spot, which really helped with our schedule. All the staff were kind and provided hospitality-filled service. The Hotel is spacious, and the lobby area is clean and beautiful. The Room was also spacious and spotless. The large public bath was spacious and very clean as well. I stay at many hotels, and even large hotels these days rarely display fresh flowers—but here, beautiful fresh flower arrangements were placed throughout the property. It was truly soothing. When we stayed, perhaps because there were many Spanish guests, the large public bath was almost like having it to ourselves—so much so that it felt like a waste of hot water. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Hakone.

    Wonderful Accommodation

The Onsen is wonderful. There are multiple open-air baths, including some where you can relax on your own. There are plenty of washing stations, and all the hair dryers are Dyson. Meals are served in private rooms, perfect for enjoying conversation with friends. There is also a foot bath, so you can unwind right up until check-out. The aroma in the hallway to the guest rooms is pleasantly soothing.

    I’m glad I chose Kajikaso.

Twice a year, our family treats ourselves to a slightly luxurious trip. This time it was just the two of us, and considering the location and the Room, the price felt surprisingly reasonable—so I was a bit worried. Still, we decided to stay at Kajikaso because of its great location near the shopping street.\n\nUntil we arrived by car and were waiting to check in at the Hotel, I honestly thought we might have made the wrong choice. But after check-in, everything changed: a spacious, bright Room; a garden open-air bath with perfectly heated water flowing continuously; very comfortable beds; and even two TVs. The large public bath was impressive—big enough to swim in—and the temperature was just right.\n\nDinner was excellent, especially the appetizers and sashimi. Drinks ordered via tablet were delivered quickly, and chatting with the staff was truly soothing. We also enjoyed the karaoke room and breakfast—everything was wonderful.\n\nMy husband especially loved the complimentary beer server in our Room.\n\nThank you very much for taking such great care of us!

    Summer Onsen Getaway

Three friends and I stayed here. We thoroughly enjoyed a luxurious experience with no complaints about the Room, the Onsen, or the meals. However, it was disappointing that there was nothing in the Room to dry towels. Also, since the large public bath was only available until 9:30 a.m., we wished we could have stayed in the Onsen until the last minute in the morning. Even so, it was a very satisfying Hotel.

    Family Trip

We stayed here for our first trip with our 0-year-old baby. The staff, the meals, and the Onsen were all excellent—we were completely satisfied! When I called in advance to ask about baby amenities, I was told they only had a diaper trash bin and a baby bath. However, on the day of our stay they attached a baby seat to a chair for us, which was incredibly helpful for feeding our baby solid foods. Our child was at the crawling and pulling-to-stand stage, so we felt safe and comfortable because there were no steps in the Room. Every meal was delicious and beautifully presented. Since the dishes were mainly fish-based, they were easy to digest—and we even enjoyed a late-night snack at the izakaya as well (laugh). The chashu ramen is especially tasty. As it was our first trip with a child during a hot season, we had various concerns, but even after checkout the staff kindly helped us, allowing us to relax and enjoy our stay with peace of mind. Thank you very much. We chose this place for our first Onsen trip and made wonderful memories. We would love to stay again!

We hope for improved allergy accommodations.

During this stay, the female front desk staff were sincere and pleasant, and I was able to check in comfortably. The Onsen was also clean and very relaxing. On the other hand, the dining experience was extremely disappointing. Service was slow overall, and the children’s menu consisted mainly of fried foods, which did not feel considerate for young children. In addition, hot soup was placed directly in front of my child, and there were no spoons or forks provided, giving me the impression that consideration for families with children was lacking. What disappointed me most was the allergy accommodation. Despite multiple email exchanges in advance and reconfirming at check-in, a soft-boiled egg was served to my child who has an egg allergy. Also, although I had clearly stated that “my child cannot eat potato salad if it contains mayonnaise,” it was still served as is. The staff offered a polite apology; however, because allergy accommodation can be life-threatening, I strongly hope coordination between the kitchen and serving staff will be improved. Given that the Accommodation Fee was by no means inexpensive, this was very disappointing. Precisely because the Onsen and front desk service were excellent, the gap compared with the dining experience felt especially large. Families with small children—especially those with food allergies—should take great care when choosing a meal-included Plan.

The location is excellent, but there is room for improvement in quality.

Because my previous stay was wonderful, I made a Reservation again after a long time, but this time it was disappointing in many ways—so much so that it didn’t feel like the same Accommodation.\nThere was no guidance to the Room. When I went to the Room on my own, I found a small nail-like object on the tatami in the area most frequently walked on. Fortunately, I didn’t step on it. I contacted the front desk immediately and asked them to come and see; they offered a brief apology and said they would share it internally and investigate what part it was. However, until the end of my stay there was no explanation of what it was, why it happened, or how they would prevent it from happening again. It still scares me to think what could have happened if I had stepped on it. This occurred before I even put down my luggage—was the Room not cleaned? In an Onsen Accommodation where guests spend time on tatami, this should never happen.\nAlso, the Wi-Fi in the Room did not work.\nIn addition, the large public bath had very dirty windows; they need cleaning.\nThe food was tasty overall, but service stopped for over 30 minutes mid-meal and we were left waiting. The grilled sweetfish that arrived afterward was completely cold.\nI splurged on a Room with an open-air bath, but with this level of service I will not return.

Onsen Indulgence — A Tipsy Getaway

This was my third stay, the first in several years. We stayed here for our first three-generation family Onsen trip, and we thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the Onsen. This time, it was our first time staying in a Room with a beer server, and we were beyond excited (lol). Mr./Ms. I, the supervisor in charge of breakfast, was very polite and efficient, and chatting with them was fun as well. They greeted us with a wonderful smile to start the morning, and we were very satisfied. The person in charge of dinner seemed a bit inexperienced, and it was disappointing that their answers to our questions were somewhat unclear. Still, overall this is a Ryokan we’d like to stay at again. Thank you very much!

    We had a great time!

The view from the Room was outstanding. The bath was also spacious. I was able to bathe while looking at the moon—it was truly moving. Dinner looked amazing as well. Breakfast was luxurious, and the clam miso soup in particular was delicious. However, I wondered whether the large public bath might not have been an Onsen, which concerned me a bit.

    About No Meals Included

I was disappointed because the No Meals Included plan came with a clearly lower-grade Room compared to the others. It felt below a Business Hotel standard and was dimly lit. There was no remote control to adjust the air conditioner temperature. The in-room unit bath was far too small. I also think disposable slippers should be provided in the Room. The only guests I saw in the lobby were foreigners.

    It was a delicious trip!

This was our first stay at Kajikaso, and we came specifically for the cuisine. The moment we tasted the very first dish at dinner, we both exclaimed, “Ah—this is it!” The dashi vinegar flavor and the way jun-sai was used made us truly happy from the start, exactly as we had hoped. One small disappointment was that the rice at breakfast was cold. There may have been some kind of accident that day (perhaps a rice cooker issue?), but if it had been served piping hot, it would have been even more impressive. There were moments when we felt how challenging it must be to maintain and operate such a large Ryokan, but the essentials—the baths, meals, and guest room—were excellent, and we could really sense the pride of a long-established Ryokan. The Onsen was spacious and spotless. The food was refined yet deeply flavorful, and our room was comfortable with a wonderful view. We wish Kajikaso continued success. Thank you very much.

You’ll Be Amazed When You Stay Here

For a long time, I had passed by Kajikaso and stayed at Yoshiike Ryokan or Hotel Okada for work. I had been curious about it, and this was my first stay. I was surprised by how much larger the Hotel is than it looks from the outside, how spacious the baths are with plenty of changing space and many vanities so there was no stress at all, how wide the range of souvenir prices is including affordable items, and how refined and delicious the meals were—everything exceeded my expectations. The Room felt a bit old, with some issues such as loose screws and difficulty adjusting the water temperature, but it was a good Hotel/Ryokan where my elderly mother could stay safely. I would like to visit again. One request: I couldn’t find where the Onsen water quality and its benefits for the large public bath were posted. I would like that information displayed in an easier-to-find place. Still, the lobby was spacious and clean, the elevators arrived quickly, and overall it was a very satisfying stay. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Stay Report: 4th-Floor Special Room

The Onsen water quality was excellent, and the Room was clean and spacious. There was a beer dispenser in the Room, but since we don’t drink beer, we would have preferred a coffee machine (lol). Check-in was smooth, and the welcome drink was self-serve. The welcome snack—sakura shrimp rice crackers—was delicious. However, there seemed to be ductwork near our Room, and there was constant noise that made it hard to sleep (sad). Although it was a 4th-floor Room, there were surprisingly many insects such as mosquitoes and spiders, which was also an issue. Since we visited in summer, winter might be more recommendable as there are fewer bugs.

    This was my second s...

This was my second stay. I remembered being very satisfied with the meals during my previous stay. However, this time the meals were disappointing in both quality and quantity. Although it was described as in-room dining, it seemed that a single staff member was handling everything, so the scheduled time passed and we were kept waiting. It was not an Accommodation that made me want to stay again.

    What a shame...

From the entrance, it felt exciting!! Both the Room and the bath in the Room were very satisfying. And yet... When I asked for a hanten, I had to go pick it up at the front desk. Since it was after my bath, I felt cold. When I asked about the dinner menu, I was told they didn’t know. At the restaurant, there weren’t enough wet towels. Even after asking for a spoon, it didn’t arrive, so I asked someone else again and finally got one. I also wondered if the menu was mainly for foreign guests... Still, I wanted some meat... All staff greeted us with smiles and were very friendly. Thank you!

For the price, it was a bit disappointing.

Honestly, for the price, it didn’t feel worth it. Here are the issues that concerned me: - After check-in, our luggage was stored and brought to the Room, but there was no explanation of the Room. - There was a beer server in the Room, but there were no instructions on how to use it. - As a result, when we used the beer server it leaked, and late at night we ended up soaked in beer. - We called reception late at night, but couldn’t get through. - We requested a newborn bath tub and a diaper bin in advance and confirmed by phone; we also confirmed again at check-in, but they were not in the Room. After checking with reception, we found they had simply been forgotten. Overall, for the price there were far too many disappointing points, and I honestly felt let down.

    We stayed in a river...

We stayed in a river-side Room with a great view, and it was spacious and comfortable. The location was convenient, the entrance was stylish, and the staff who assisted us were polite and helpful. Two things concerned us: a malfunctioning hair dryer in the large public bath and an error with the meal menu. The hair dryer was a Dyson, but it kept shutting off shortly after use and the airflow stopped. After looking into it, it seemed like this can happen when the filter hasn’t been cleaned for a long time and heat can’t be released properly. Also, we were happy to have our meal served in a private room, but the course menu provided was different from what we had reserved, which was confusing. These were minor issues, but overall it was an excellent base for our Hakone trip. Thank you very much.

Kawakasou, Golden Week 2026. Hakone Onsen

This was my second stay in six months. The meals were delicious, and I really enjoyed both the Onsen in the Room and the large public bath. We were very well taken care of by staff member I, who was in charge of our Room (Room 505). Thank you very much! This is an Accommodation I definitely want to visit again.

One-night, two-day stay during Golden Week.

Thank you for your help. I was incredibly lucky to book it just one week before my holiday. It seemed to be fully booked on the day. My impression was that there were many international guests and people attending weddings or funerals. The building felt a bit old, but I had a very satisfying Golden Week thanks to the great location and service. The parking lot is across the river, so I think most people will end up coming to the Accommodation first—please be careful. Thank you again!

    The meals were delicious.

We visited as a group of four with my elderly parents and a young child. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. We chose a Plan with an open-air bath in the Room, and it was absolutely the right choice. It was so relaxing that I felt completely refreshed. We would love to stay again.

An unforgettable stay (I came back again!)

Our previous stay was wonderful, so this was our second visit. I brought a close friend from overseas, and they were impressed by everything—the open-air bath at the large public bath, the in-room open-air bath, and both dinner and breakfast.\n\nThe cherry blossoms right outside the Accommodation were in full bloom as soon as we stepped out, and we were reminded again what an amazing location it is. We would definitely like to stay again.

    Labor shortages and hiring difficulties

Like many industries, I assume this Accommodation is suffering from staff shortages. At check-in, only two of the three counters were staffed, resulting in a long line. When it was finally my turn, the staff member spoke so quietly that I could not understand what was being explained. As for the trash around the lobby sofas, it was already there at check-in and remained untouched even three hours later (in a spot visible from the front desk). The service by the staff assigned to our private dining room at dinner was also poor. Even though we arrived at the time instructed by the front desk, we were made to wait outside. The lantern in front of the restaurant stayed unlit all evening (it was on the next morning, so it was clearly just forgotten). After dinner started and dishes began coming out, our first beer still did not arrive. Then, an additional drink we ordered midway through the meal was brought only after we had completely finished eating. When I lightly commented that this wasn’t acceptable, I was told: “I understand exactly what you mean, but we’re busy. Don’t say it to us—plus I’m temporary staff. Please complain to the front desk.” When I replied that I would tell the front desk that a temporary staff member said so, they answered: “Yes, please do. I’m temporary staff so it’s not my problem—haha.” That’s simply unacceptable. Later in the meal, another overseas staff member came to serve us; whether or not they knew what had happened earlier, they did their best with halting Japanese and a smile. Breakfast was similar. We were in the same private room as dinner the previous night, but there had been no preparation at all: only one unused glass remained on a tray with water pitcher and cups from dinner service. Part of one low table also remained misaligned from the night before. This time we stayed under a Plan for a special room; however, everyone in our group agreed we will not return. Even if you raise accommodation rates somewhat to secure revenue and hire capable staff, I believe it will be beneficial in the long run.

    Family Trip

This was our 7th stay at our favorite accommodation, which we visit as a family every year-end. The staff's hospitality is always a highlight, though there were some disappointing experiences last year that made us hesitate to make the reservation this time. Upon check-in at the front desk, we were warmly greeted with "Welcome back," which immediately put us at ease. The staff interacted kindly with our small children and provided attentive service during meals, allowing us to relax and enjoy our stay as usual. The meals were not extravagant but had generous portions and were all delicious. The tenderly simmered beef tongue stew was particularly memorable. Another highlight is the onsen, with its excellent water quality leaving the skin smooth—my wife's favorite feature of this place. Starting this year, the large public bath alternates between men’s and women’s use daily, adding more enjoyment to our experience. Although it was just a one-night stay, we fully enjoyed the onsen as a family and look forward to visiting again next year!

    The room's bath was ...

The room's bath was so comfortable that I found myself repeatedly soaking and then cooling off on the balcony. This time, we splurged on a nice room, and the drinks and other amenities in the room were a delightful touch. However, it was a bit disappointing that, perhaps due to recent staffing shortages, meal service was often delayed. Fried and grilled dishes were quite cold by the time they arrived, and there were so few staff members that I felt hesitant to ask for drink refills. The staff who were working did their best, so it may not be anyone's fault... Even though it was just one night, my family enjoyed a relaxing stay together.
