    Family Trip

    We stayed in one special Room and two Rooms on the 5th floor for our annual family trip. The view from the 5th floor was amazing. The special Room had two Onsens, both indoor and outdoor, allowing us to relax and unwind. However, there were a few disappointments: The upgraded meal was too ordinary and underwhelming. The lounge on the 2nd floor was extremely hot—almost as if the air conditioning was broken. When we asked the staff, they mentioned it was due to geothermal heat. Only this area has geothermal heat? We ended up giving up on enjoying the lounge service we had been looking forward to. Although our expectations were high due to its high Review ratings, which led to lower satisfaction overall, we are grateful for all the staff who assisted us during our stay. Thank you very much!

    Unzen Jigoku in front, private open-air baths, and delicious meals.

    A highly satisfying stay. - The room offers a stunning view of Unzen Jigoku from the window. We visited three Onsen facilities, but perhaps due to its proximity to the hot springs, the private open-air bath in our room felt the most effective. Even without a large public bath, having a private open-air bath available anytime was fantastic. Amenities like Aromatherapy Associates products also enhanced our experience. As a suggestion, it would be nice to have lightweight pajamas and an extra face towel in addition to the provided loungewear. - The café bar on the second floor offers complimentary drinks. We enjoyed sparkling wine right after check-in. The rooftop lounge features self-service coffee and other beverages, relaxing chairs, and massage chairs where you can unwind while admiring Unzen Jigoku from above. - The fusion-style dinner was very satisfying as well. A dish featuring Unzen shiitake mushrooms highlighted their flavor beautifully—truly impressive! The Nagasaki Wagyu roast beef melted in our mouths. Since it leans towards French cuisine with rich sauces, adding baguettes or similar bread might be a good idea. Beer pouring was skillfully done too! Breakfast was Japanese-style and luxurious; we were very satisfied with it as well. For multiple night stays or when craving Western food in the morning, lighter options like delicious bread and omelets would be appreciated instead of heavier meat dishes for breakfast. - Hospitality felt warm and welcoming throughout our stay. Overall, this was an extremely satisfying experience! If there were desk lights available in rooms, this Hotel would also make for an excellent workcation spot with Onsen access even without sightseeing plans! While it's far from urban areas and comes at quite a price point, offering attractive multiple night stay plans during off-seasons would be greatly appreciated!

    The dinner three years ago was overly salty to the point of numbing my tongue, which kept me away for a while. However, this time the meal was absolutely delicious. The starry sky was beautiful, and the hot spring quality was excellent, making it a highly satisfying Hotel as always. Thank you very much for this wonderful experience.

    This is the place to stay in Unzen!

    I have stayed here before and this is a revisit, but it remains a wonderful accommodation. A room with a panoramic view of Unzen Jigoku, delicious meals, relaxing onsen—everything harmonizes perfectly in this exceptional accommodation. Visiting on a beautiful day reminiscent of early summer made the charm of this place stand out even more during my trip. I look forward to visiting again soon, so I kindly ask for your hospitality once more at that time.

    A meticulously refined Hotel that exceeds expectations.

    Arriving much earlier than check-in time, I planned to wait in the lobby after parking, but two staff members promptly came to greet me. From that moment, I felt this Hotel must be wonderful. Indeed, everything from the Facility, dining, and staff service exceeded expectations and made my trip many times more enjoyable thanks to this Hotel. The large window in the Room offered a view of Unzen Jigoku (Unzen Hell), resembling a moving painting. The spacious bed and sofa, along with a tatami corner, provided plenty of relaxing spots within the Room itself—so much so that it was hard to decide where to unwind. Although I initially felt disappointed by the lack of a public bathhouse, soaking in the private bath connected to a balcony while listening to birdsong and surrounded by the scent of sulfur turned out to be even more satisfying than using a public bathhouse. The lounge on the top floor was also incredibly comfortable; lying down on its long sofa made me feel like I never wanted to leave! The meals were exquisite—a creative fusion cuisine featuring fresh Shimabara vegetables prepared with great care and attention. The chef's excellent sense shone through every dish. Additionally, our server’s thoughtful gestures ensured we enjoyed our meal fully; both our hearts and stomachs were filled with happiness. I also took advantage of their unique "Unzen Post" service that delivers mail one year later—it’s such an amazing idea! I'm already looking forward to receiving it next year. Thank you for creating so many wonderful memories for us! I hope to visit Unzen again just so I can return here at this Hotel. Thank you very much!

    A must-visit Hotel when you come to Nagasaki.

    Stayed in a twin room with a terrace, offering a stunning view of the Onsen source through large windows. The scenery is breathtaking. Smokers will appreciate that smoking is allowed on the terrace. The private Onsen connected to the room flows 24/7, allowing you to enjoy it anytime you like. You can also admire the Onsen source from the bath—simply amazing. The meals are impressive for this price range. While not overwhelmingly delicious, they make great use of local ingredients and show thoughtful cost-saving efforts. For breakfast, you can choose between Japanese and Western options; I opted for Western and loved the combination of hashed beef and creamy scrambled eggs. This Hotel is well worth visiting Unzen for!

    A charming Hotel nestled in the steam.

    This trip was a birthday getaway. I mentioned beforehand that no special arrangements were necessary and simply informed the hotel, "I will be visiting for my birthday." At check-in, the manager personally greeted me and said, "Thank you for choosing our hotel to celebrate your birthday and for traveling such a long way. Congratulations on your special day." These warm words truly touched my heart. While growing older isn't always easy, their thoughtfulness and kind words brought me immense joy, and I am deeply grateful. Being healthy allowed me to meet such wonderful staff members, the manager, and this amazing hotel—thank you once again. A hotel that makes you feel its spirit of hospitality is surely a hallmark of excellence that makes guests want to return. From the room, I could overlook Unzen Jigoku (Unzen Hell), soak in the private Onsen attached to the room, feel the breeze on the terrace right in front—it was an unbeatable location. If I may make one suggestion: while dinner's main course featured wagyu beef, there was also chicken served midway through. Although they were different types of meat dishes, it might have been even more enjoyable if there had been something like assorted sashimi instead of overlapping meat dishes. As for breakfast options—while it’s great that both Japanese and Western styles are available—the Japanese breakfast included rice with raw egg (though they were served separately). Since I'm not fond of raw eggs (this is just personal preference), I felt it might be better to offer more classic breakfast items rather than ingredients with divided preferences. Especially for Japanese guests at breakfast time—a simple yet delicious dish like rice cooked in an earthen pot would likely be well-received. However, regarding raw eggs specifically—I did not inform them about my preferences before arrival; therefore this is not an oversight by the hotel. It was quite hot on that day but turned out to be a wonderful stay overall. The warm hospitality added another beautiful memory to my travels. As we head into even hotter summer days ahead—I hope all staff members take good care of themselves! I look forward to visiting again someday soon—to see everyone’s kind smiles once more!

    This is my second stay, and it’s very comfortable.

    Relax with Sonogi tea and sweets at check-in. After being guided to the room, the sight of steam from hell catches your eye. Step onto the balcony, and the sulfur aroma is delightful. Enjoy complimentary sparkling wine and beer—simply wonderful. Meals are served as a course, with staff providing detailed explanations; everything was delicious. The mild Unzen hot spring water leaves your skin smooth—an accommodation you'll want to visit again and again.

    How far should the scenery be evaluated?

    The evaluation may vary depending on how much importance is placed on the view. The location and the view from the Room are outstanding. There are no complaints about the lounge offerings, but some of the older staff members were quite unfriendly. While it didn’t ruin my mood, it made me hesitant to ask for anything, so I would appreciate a bit more friendliness. At this price range, that’s something I expect. The bathroom has significant drawbacks; the bathtub was very difficult to get into. It seemed almost impossible for those with weak legs or hips to use it comfortably, so I felt that handrails or a step stool would be helpful. Additionally, while I understand that soaking in a bath leisurely might not be ideal here, I wish the washing area could have been more spacious. As for meals, personally, all of them tasted too strong for my liking. In this case, having bread at the beginning would have been nice (I also found it odd that there was no bread despite being Western-style cuisine). Although I was aware beforehand, compared to before there seems to have been a noticeable decline in quality (e.g., no French toast). If portions are reduced as they were now, incorporating elements like these would be appreciated instead. Overall it's not bad; however aside from its scenic views—I wouldn’t feel inclined toward staying again based solely upon other aspects offered during experience here!

    We stayed for one ni...

    We stayed for one night and two days as a family. Although the fog near the Hotel was so thick that we could barely see anything, we managed to arrive safely. The next day, the fog cleared, and we enjoyed a breathtaking view of Unzen from our Room window. The meals were absolutely delicious, and while the Onsen was slightly hot, it left our skin feeling smooth. We would love to stay here again!

    A Hotel You'll Want to Recommend to Friends and Acquaintances

    The staff provided excellent service from check-in to check-out, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant and relaxing two-day stay. The Room was comfortable, with the bedroom and living area slightly separated, offering a sense of privacy. The Room's bath was delightful, featuring both an indoor and outdoor bath experience. Meals were exceptional; both dinner and breakfast were deliciously prepared and beautifully presented, leaving us highly satisfied. I rated the Facility as 4 because while there seemed to be an option for on-call massages, there was no spa facility available. It would have been nice if the Room had a massage chair at least. It was a wonderful Hotel that I look forward to visiting again soon!

    Hoping for the third time to be the charm.

    It was my first visit in 5 years. Excellent service and delicious food. I was able to relax very much. The only disappointment, perhaps due to the timing, was that there was no bread option and the Onsen scent wasn't pleasant. (I believe it was just a coincidence.) Nonetheless, it remains a great Hotel, and I look forward to my third stay with even higher expectations at this favorite Accommodation.

    It was a wonderful accommodation experience.

    I traveled with my mother and had a wonderful accommodation experience, making it a memorable trip for her. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The private onsen in the room was incredibly relaxing, and I enjoyed it multiple times. The meals at the restaurant were expertly prepared by skilled chefs to bring out the flavors of the ingredients, and they were absolutely delicious. There were lounges on the second floor and rooftop where complimentary drinks were available, allowing us to relax after dinner while reading books or simply unwinding. Unzen Jigoku was right in front of us, offering breathtaking views even from our room.

    Relax and unwind on your journey

    On our first trip to Nagasaki, we visited the long-awaited Unzen Onsen. The Onsen, meals, service, and location were all excellent. The terrace at the café on the second floor was lovely, and the free drinks there were greatly appreciated by us as a couple. We also enjoyed the free drinks at the rooftop lounge but thought it would be better if soda water was available alongside shochu and whiskey! The meals were thoughtfully prepared, and breakfast in particular was exceptionally delicious. We would love to visit again!

    The location was exc...

    The location was excellent, and the view of Unzen Jigoku from the Room, constantly changing, was breathtaking. The semi-open-air bath was spacious and very relaxing. The illuminated view of Jigoku during dinner was also wonderful. However, it was a bit disappointing that the toilet felt cramped compared to the size of the Room. Since the door opens inward, there were times when slippers got caught in it or had to be placed far away to close properly.

    Excellent location

    Stayed on the third night of a 4-night, 5-day trip in Kyushu. We arrived before check-in time but were promptly accommodated and soon guided to our room—thank you! The room offered a stunning view of Unzen Jigoku, and being on an upper floor, the location was exceptional. After settling in, I enjoyed a bath in the room's Onsen while gazing at Unzen Jigoku—a truly blissful moment. However, the bath is enclosed with glass, and even when opening the glass door to access the balcony, only a small amount of fresh air comes through. This made me wonder if it could really be called a semi-open-air bath? Additionally, condensation on the front glass obscured part of the beautiful view. While I understand that structural renovations may be challenging, improving this aspect would make for an even more remarkable experience. After my bath, I relaxed at the top-floor lounge with its breathtaking views. For dinner, we headed to a charming restaurant that retained an atmosphere reminiscent of bygone days. Here too we enjoyed elegant moments overlooking Unzen Jigoku. The meal was diverse and delicious without becoming monotonous; however, some dishes were slightly salty for my taste—even as someone from Edo who enjoys bold flavors! That said, every dish was excellent—I finished everything without question (laughs). Breakfast was also varied and delightful. What stood out most during our stay at Kyushu Hotel was undoubtedly the high level of hospitality from all staff members. Comments about food or baths are subjective personal opinions; others may feel differently. Please take this as one individual's feedback for future improvements. Thank you very much!

    Overall satisfied, but the meals were a bit disappointing.

    The accommodation was generally satisfying, offering unique experiences such as a warm welcome upon arrival and complimentary access to the café and bar, which are rare in daily life. Additionally, the staff's courteous and attentive service left a positive impression. However, there were some aspects that fell short of expectations for a high-ranking hotel. (1) Meals While it was commendable that local ingredients were used in the dinner menu, serving Unzen ham cutlets that resembled those sold at supermarket deli counters was disappointing. The issue wasn't with the ham cutlets themselves but rather the lack of creativity in their presentation. For breakfast, I chose the Western-style option; however, some shared side dishes seemed more suited for Japanese cuisine and didn't pair well with Western dishes. The side dishes were also served cold, giving an impression of being pre-prepared to save effort. Warm items like omelets or sausages would have been more fitting for a Western-style breakfast. (2) Facilities There were minor maintenance issues such as toilet locks not functioning properly and shaky entrance door locks at the accommodation building. These details detracted from the sense of luxury expected from such accommodations.

    Jigokudani Accommodation

    I recently stayed at this accommodation. The view of Jigokudani from the room window was breathtaking. The room was convenient to use, but it was unfortunate that the restroom was small. The dining experience, both dinner and breakfast, was very delicious, and the staff's service was excellent. I also enjoyed using the facility's lounge, which had a great atmosphere and left me very satisfied.

    Everything was excellent.

    I stayed in a detached accommodation, and the open-air bath was very pleasant, while the natural hot spring bath allowed for a relaxing soak. Meals were served in a private room, and the staff's service was excellent—polite and much appreciated. At the lounge, we enjoyed free drinks; my mother and I used it together, and the hospitality was outstanding, offering an extraordinary experience. Although it rained unfortunately, our spirits were brightened. The welcome drink and donuts were delicious; I even bought some donuts as souvenirs. It turned out to be a wonderful trip.     The meals were disappointing.

    The course meal and Japanese breakfast were something I was looking forward to on this trip, but both were disappointing. Even though I checked multiple times on YouTube before coming... I wondered if the head chef had changed, which left me feeling let down. Not even having miso soup for breakfast was surprising... The open-air bath was excellent! The staff's hospitality was outstanding! The Room was fantastic! The lounge was amazing! The restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere, so it’s truly unfortunate. I have high hopes for the future.

    The atmosphere of the Hotel has changed slightly, and the meals have changed significantly.

    The overall atmosphere of the Hotel has changed compared to before. The meals, in particular, have changed significantly. Breakfast offers almost no warm dishes and feels like a third-rate hotel meal. Dinner tastes as if it is masked by heavy sauces. However, the vegetables are sourced from Shimabara and are sweet and delicious. As always, the staff's hospitality remains very pleasant and welcoming. The lounge service, views, and sulfur baths are excellent. We hope the quality of meals can be maintained without compromise moving forward.

    An accommodation you'll definitely want to visit again.

    This is an exceptional accommodation in every way. I stay at accommodations of this class 2-3 times a year, but this one truly stands out in my memory. The check-in process was outstanding, with detailed explanations and delicious sweets that immediately lifted my spirits. Although I arrived a bit early, I was surprised to be shown to my room right away (I had planned to borrow the parking lot and explore the surroundings until check-in time). Thanks to this, I could enjoy the café bar and lounge from an early hour. Drinks at the café bar and lounge are complimentary, which is an extraordinary service in these times. The meals were absolutely delicious, and the staff providing service were genuinely pleasant, allowing me to relax and enjoy dining. The Onsen in the room was slightly small for a double room but had just the right temperature. It allowed me to fully enjoy pure Onsen water without any added water. While everything deserves full marks overall, there are a few points I'd like you to consider as I'd love to return again: ① Amenities For women especially, lotion is essential both in the evening and morning. It would be appreciated if at least two bottles could be provided instead of just one. ② Café Bar It would be nice if there were not only sweet snacks or canned items but also options like cheese or ham platters as accompaniments. ③ Dinner Unzen Ham Cutlet was served during dinner; however, it left me slightly disappointed. For accommodations of this class, handmade dishes rather than pre-made products are expected. The sashimi (and its sauce) served before it was excellent—making the ham cutlet stand out even more by comparison. ④ Breakfast Previously it seems breakfast menus were completely divided into Japanese or Western styles; now they feature mixed small dishes with only main courses being selectable as Japanese or Western style. This approach might need reconsideration—I chose hashed beef for my main dish but found that side dishes leaned towards Japanese flavors such as simmered vegetables or hijiki seaweed salad which didn’t pair well with hashed beef at all! Even fewer items paired thoughtfully—like omelets alongside salads—would provide greater satisfaction overall compared against mismatched combinations currently offered under mixed styles today! If offering two distinct sets proves challenging operationally perhaps consolidating entirely into one streamlined option may work better instead? Please continue striving toward maintaining your position as Kyushu’s No.#1-rated accommodation long-term—I’ll certainly visit again soon!

    A Hotel That Leaves a Lasting Impression

    A beautiful hotel with heartfelt care in every aspect, despite its historic interior. Walking through the corridors was an exciting experience. We enjoyed the meals, complimentary café and bar time for guests, as well as the Hell Night Tour. The hot spring water had a soft texture with a sulfur aroma that was truly soothing. Everything about this place provided relaxation. The preservation of historical elements alongside modern updates is one of the reasons we felt so at ease here. It has become one of the places we wish to visit again. Thank you to all the staff and the guide for the Night Tour!

    It was the best accommodation!

    Despite the unfortunate weather, we were able to fully enjoy the Hotel. We made use of the bar and lounge, and the quality of the Onsen was excellent. The staff were all very courteous, allowing us to have a pleasant stay. The meals were the most delicious we’ve ever had. Due to the rain, we couldn’t use the outdoor rooftop terrace. However, since there are limited chairs indoors, it would be appreciated if more chairs could be provided when outdoor spaces cannot be used due to weather conditions. We also utilized the postcard service for delivery one year later. When that postcard arrives, we’d love to visit again. Thank you for providing us with such a happy time and space!

    A bit disappointing

    The staff's service was very polite and good. However, there were issues with cleanliness, such as black mold on the bathroom walls and shower chairs, and handprints or dirt on the toilet paper holder. Additionally, the meals lacked flair; they weren't bad but were just average. It was a bit disappointing as it did not meet my expectations.

    Comprehensive ability is excellent.

    There are hotels in Nagasaki Prefecture and Unzen that surpass Unzen Kyushu Hotel individually in terms of service, quantity and quality of meals, lounge, room facilities, onsen, and scenery. However, considering the overall score as a whole, I think it is at a considerably high level. It is also recommended as it is about an hour from Nagasaki.

    We stayed for our wedding anniversary, and it turned out to be a wonderful trip with great memories. The room was spacious and well-appointed, just as the reviews said, and we were very satisfied. The bath, which we were most looking forward to, had a fantastic view that we loved. We enjoyed it multiple times during our stay! The quality of the spring water was excellent; it kept us warm as we went straight to the balcony in our gowns and repeated the cycle of enjoying the bath. It exceeded our expectations for the price, and we'd love to visit again. Lastly, here are a few points that were slightly disappointing: - While I felt that the ingredients used in the dishes were good, some vegetables weren't cooked through enough leaving them with hard centers or some meat dishes were too salty (this might be a matter of personal taste...). - I noticed some dirtiness in the restroom at the restaurant building (it might have been an issue with cleaning water). - The staff who served us was very polite and attentive towards guests; however, I noticed their shirt sleeves were dirty and slightly frayed. Since it's such a high-grade hotel (Hotel), paying attention to appearance could enhance satisfaction. - Breakfast was delicious but seemed like they avoided cooking processes as much as possible; having cooked items like egg or fish dishes would increase satisfaction. Despite mentioning these disappointing points at last, overall both facilities (Facility) and staff were wonderful. Thank you very much!
