    We were extremely satisfied!

    I was looking for a Room with an open-air bath and in-room dining. About a 45-minute drive from Kanazawa, with a zoo and the mysterious Hanibe Gankutsu-in nearby, it felt like the perfect place for the first night of our 2-night, 3-day trip, so we decided to stay here. First, when we arrived about 10 minutes past check-in time, everyone was waiting outside in this heat, and since we weren’t used to that kind of welcome, we felt truly apologetic (lol). I was surprised by how vast the grounds were—our Room was spacious, and best of all, it had the semi open-air bath I’d been hoping for! Having a dedicated staff member (?) take care of us throughout our stay also made us feel at ease. This time it happened to be my companion’s birthday month… and when I casually mentioned it, they gave us a birthday gift at dinner. On top of that, the proprietress even put on a surprise (no spoilers), which made it such a fun and memorable experience. We heard the meals change daily, so I think even a Multiple Night Stay would be enjoyable. There are also two large public baths that are more than enough to enjoy even without an in-room bath—we were able to relax and unwind. Above all, we really appreciated the warm hospitality from all the staff. In the end everything worked out well, but since it was their birthday month I requested an additional dinner item in advance; however, on the day we were told that if we ordered that menu they would like to serve dinner not in our Room but in another private dining room instead. Since I had been looking forward to in-room dining as well, I would have appreciated being informed at the time of ordering that this might happen. That said, the room they prepared for us was private—and actually it worked out better for messy people like us because we didn’t have to rush around tidying up before dinner—so we were very satisfied. Next time I’m thinking of visiting during my own birthday month so I can experience the proprietress’s surprise again. Thanks to you all, it turned into a wonderful Kanazawa trip.     I was very satisfied!

    We stayed here on the second night of our 2-night, 3-day trip to Toyama and Kanazawa! As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, the Hotel staff came out to greet us. They promptly helped with our luggage, and check-in was smooth. We are truly grateful for the attentive service from our assigned attendant (a foreign staff member), who worked very hard to assist us. Both dinner and breakfast were served in a private room, so our family could relax, and we were very satisfied with the meals. The proprietress also had a wonderful smile, making this a memorable Kanazawa trip. Thank you very much!

    I want to show my grandchild fireflies.

    I stopped by because I wanted to show fireflies to my 3-year-old grandchild, but it was raining heavily and we couldn’t see any. However, my grandchild still had a wonderful time, even though we may have caused some trouble for everyone with their kindness. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    An Accommodation with Exceptional Hospitality

    Although it is far from the nearest station, the flexible Shuttle Service times meant there was no inconvenience. The in-room Onsen bath was extremely comfortable. The view was lovely, and even though I stayed alone, three bath towels were provided—thoughtful touches like this were much appreciated. The water was pleasantly lukewarm, so I could soak for a long time and return multiple times, which was wonderful. As for the Onsen, alternating between the large public bath’s natural hot spring source and the in-room bath was the best part of all. The meals were excellent, featuring many local ingredients with careful seasoning. Dinner was just the right amount for a woman, while breakfast was quite filling. The staff’s hospitality was exceptional—they paid attention to every detail and made my stay truly comfortable. There are not many Ryokan with an in-room Onsen where you can stay solo even on weekends, so I am very grateful and would definitely like to stay again.

    It was a wonderful and memorable stay.

    I visited with my elderly parents, my daughter, and myself—four of us in total. My mother has dementia and is not able to understand much, but my father wanted to visit Kanazawa, so we looked for an Accommodation that could host four people and had an Onsen in the Room, and decided to stay here. The Room was spacious, and both the in-room bath and the large public bath were excellent. The staff member in charge of our Room was very kind, and I truly appreciate how considerate they were toward my mother. We made wonderful memories on our trip to Kanazawa. Thank you very much.

    This was my second s...

    This was my second stay personally. This time, due to work circumstances, it ended up being more than a month later than planned, but it was a family trip that also celebrated my wife’s birthday. We were able to confirm details thoroughly with the staff in charge regarding allergy accommodations and special-order dishes before our stay, which was very helpful. Thanks to the thoughtful consideration given to our children’s meals as well, we had no worries about allergies, and even our kids—who are usually quite picky—enjoyed everything, saying “All the food here is delicious.” The hot pot with house-made ponzu sauce and the special-order abalone were outstanding, and of course the adults were completely satisfied too. The “nodoguro” at breakfast was also wonderfully rich and delicious. The staff member who assisted us that day was incredibly kind and attentive—even remembering our children’s names. Since we’re a family that hardly drinks alcohol and tends to keep eating at a fast pace, we may have made things difficult in terms of serving order and timing during the meal. The chestnut yokan served upon arrival was also excellent. As for the baths, it turned into a chilly day with snow falling from night into the next morning, which made the open-air bath even more exceptional. It was also great that we could soak in the same Onsen in our Room. We appreciated having plenty of bath towels and amenities prepared in advance as well. With towels provided at both the open-air bath and large public bath too, being able to enjoy them multiple times with almost nothing in hand is wonderful. By the way, when I first exchanged messages with the person handling my Reservation, their reply included a brief mention of my previous stay. It was only once—and years ago—but I felt genuinely happy as someone making a Reservation that they had taken note of it so carefully. Perhaps past history can be checked quickly through their Reservation system; still, whether or not they choose to mention it seems to vary by Accommodation. In fact, due to travel time considerations we were debating between this place and another option closer to home—but for our family it became a deciding factor: “Isn’t an Accommodation that remembers us more reassuring?” The Facility may not be brand-new overall, but everything—from our Room to things like the table soccer game in the hallway—was spotless and shining clean; thorough cleaning and maintenance were evident everywhere. Thank you for giving our whole family such a relaxing time—it almost felt like one night wasn’t enough. We look forward to staying again on another occasion.

    We will visit again.

    It was a really wonderful Hotel. The meals featured lots of local ingredients, and the seasoning was neither too light nor too strong—everything was delicious. The staff were, of course, very kind as well. Thank you very much. Our children loved the toys in the lobby (especially the excavator) and went to play with them again and again. I remembered the Onsen being very hot in the past, but this time it was just right and I ended up soaking for a long time. It was also very convenient not having to bring towels. If I had to mention anything, it might be nice if the souvenir corner had a wider selection of boxed sweets. Also, we would be very happy if check-out were at 11:00. This time we requested late check-out, but I couldn’t help thinking that there might not need to be an extra fee for children aged 3 and 4… It was such a comfortable Hotel that we’d love to stay again when we visit Hokuriku. The ice cream in the lobby was so delicious!!!

    It was excellent!

    Thank you for the wonderful experience. The open-air bath in the Room was spacious, with the perfect temperature, and absolutely amazing! I enjoyed it both at night and in the morning. The large public bath was also spacious and pleasant! The building itself has a historical charm, but it is well-maintained and does not feel outdated. I had a very comfortable stay throughout my visit. The meals were all delicious! From the appetizer featuring persimmon, I was deeply impressed. I only wish I had more room to eat more—it was that good! For my husband's birthday, we requested an additional cake, and the hostess personally came to our Room to deliver it while singing a birthday song! My husband was truly touched by this gesture. I accidentally left something behind in our Room after checking out, but thanks to your quick notice, I could return immediately to retrieve it safely. Thank you so much for your help during that time. I will definitely visit again—thank you very much!

    Satisfying meals and a magnificent garden

    The meals were excellent. Every dish was delicious, and I was truly satisfied with the variety of tasty dishes served in small portions. The room was very spacious, and the entire accommodation had a wide-open feel. The space was designed luxuriously, making it a truly special place to stay. The garden leading to the entrance of the accommodation was beautiful, and the nighttime illumination of the garden added even more charm. It might not be suitable for those who prefer modern styles, but this historical accommodation had a wonderful atmosphere that I thoroughly enjoyed. Unlike large onsen accommodations crowded with tourists using sightseeing passes, this place offered a relaxing and peaceful stay where you could truly unwind. Of course, there were no crowds in the baths either, so it was great to enjoy them at my own pace. I also enjoyed viewing the autumn leaves on the trees in the garden. While admiring it, I imagined how beautiful it must be during other seasons with cherry blossoms or lotus flowers blooming in the pond. It was an accommodation full of hospitality!

    Accommodation for a Relaxing Stay to Forget the Time

    Stayed here for his birthday. The room was very spacious and relaxing, and the onsen offered various options that we enjoyed multiple times. Meals were served in the room, which was especially appreciated in the morning. While it’s understandable that additional charges could cover this, the included kaiseki meal had very little meat. For foreigners or younger guests, perhaps more meat or fewer raw dishes might enhance their dining experience. However, I personally loved enjoying Kanazawa's local ingredients and was very satisfied. The rice cooked right in front of us in a pot was truly delicious. The hostess was wonderful, making our time warm and memorable. Thank you for an amazing day!

    May it reach many people.

    To be honest, I don't even want to give this place one star, but since extremely low ratings seem to get deleted, I am giving it a 3. I hope this review remains and prevents others from having the same experience. This ryokan seems to have been a luxurious accommodation in the past, but now the entire building is outdated. The room, facilities, and even the onsen are all deteriorated and lack any sense of luxury. The onsen was lukewarm, and both the large public bath and open-air bath felt no different from a regular public bathhouse in town—far from relaxing. The quality of meals was poor with ordinary presentation; honestly, small local restaurants would serve much better food than this. For example: two thumb-sized pieces of beef were served along with half-fist-sized crab portions—hardly satisfying for what you pay here. The futon in the room was thin and narrow; I couldn’t sleep at all. As for staff service—it lacked professionalism entirely. Despite loud noises coming from other guests in the hallway late at night, no action was taken by staff members to address it properly. In addition during morning visits by staff knocking loudly (on metal doors nonetheless), it felt more like staying at a business hotel rather than traditional ryokan hospitality. There’s nothing positive worth mentioning about my stay here—but these are simply facts based upon personal experience. Spending approximately 50,000 yen per night should guarantee far superior services compared against what actually delivered during my visit. This trip aimed toward relaxation amidst busy work schedules turned disappointing solely due choosing wrong accommodation option unfortunately! If anyone plans visiting Kanazawa region soon please avoid making reservations here altogether! While only seeing overly positive reviews online beforehand raises suspicion whether negative ones intentionally removed frequently perhaps? Management team urgently needs reevaluate current operations ensuring fair value aligned pricing structure alongside improved guest satisfaction overall moving forward long-term basis instead ignoring constructive criticism outright repeatedly otherwise risks losing credibility further worsening reputation unnecessarily overtime ahead potentially affecting future bookings negatively too eventually ultimately harming business sustainability itself longer run perspective-wise realistically speaking altogether finally concluding thoughts shared above sincerely hoping meaningful changes implemented     I visited Matsusaki ...

    I visited Matsusaki Ryokan for the first time to enjoy the traditional Japanese atmosphere while planning a trip to Hakusan Hime Shrine and Kanakuragu Shrine. The staff were friendly and attentive, and I appreciated the thoughtful gesture of the proprietress coming to greet us during dinner. The meals featured delicious dishes made with local ingredients, and the Onsen in our room had pleasantly warm water, which was very satisfying. The room had a slightly retro feel but was impeccably clean, making it comfortable to stay in. The Ayurvedic spa treatment by an instructor trained in India exceeded my expectations—it was truly amazing. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to stroll through the garden this time, so I’d love to visit again during another season. Thank you for your hospitality. *By the way, thank you for recommending Hakusan Hime Shrine’s red bean paste ohagi soft serve—it was absolutely delicious!

    A charming and histo...

    A charming and historic onsen accommodation. The room was a Japanese-style room with in-room dining, featuring chairs for a comfortable dining experience. We appreciated the attentive service during meals. The room was very spacious, with two sinks in a separate area, an open-air bath, and a well-designed layout. The rooftop open-air bath was also very pleasant. The meals were traditional Japanese kaiseki cuisine, with fresh sashimi and delicious Goro-shima Kintoki sweet potato rice being the highlights. The building itself is old, and the large garden with its forest and lotus pond seemed somewhat neglected, which was a bit disappointing. The sound of karaoke could be heard clearly, giving off the vibe of an old-fashioned onsen ryokan. It felt like some guests had outdated manners, but perhaps that can't be helped.

    I was very satisfied again this time.

    I am a local resident and occasionally use this Ryokan with my family for a relaxing break. The staff are very kind and accommodating to families. The Room is extremely clean. The meals, unlike those at many other Ryokans that may look luxurious but can be disappointing in taste, are made with local ingredients, delicious, and highly recommended. This time, I especially enjoyed the soup bowl. Also, both the dinner and breakfast rice were exceptionally tasty. My favorite is the lukewarm natural hot spring bath in the large public bath on the first floor. It works gently on your body, making you feel refreshed after returning home the next day as it helps relieve fatigue effectively. I would love to visit again!

    It is a great Onsen Ryokan, but...

    The Ryokan itself is old, but it has been well-maintained through cleanliness and renovations, allowing for a pleasant stay. The garden at the entrance was breathtaking, and the view from the room was very soothing. The Onsen had a lower temperature, but it felt perfect for taking multiple relaxing baths during my stay. I personally enjoyed it several times. Since our room had both an indoor bath and an open-air bath, we did not use the public bath. As for the meals, they featured local ingredients with a focus on Japanese cuisine and had a gentle flavoring. The portions were slightly large but very satisfying overall. During dinner, the proprietress came to greet us, which added to the charm of this long-established Ryokan. Because this was such a wonderful Ryokan overall, I would like to mention some areas that I found disappointing: ➀ The smell of bath towels in the room: Three towels were provided per person; however, all of them had an unpleasant odor. While they seemed cleaned and usable when dry, once wet they emitted an old or ingrained smell that was quite uncomfortable. Although we used all three towels without requesting replacements due to their quantity provided per person, unfortunately all smelled similarly unpleasant. ➁ The attendant: It appeared there was a dedicated attendant system as we were assisted by one individual from check-in until check-out. What stood out most disappointingly were their lack of explanation and attentiveness throughout our stay—especially regarding meal descriptions where explanations felt vague or incomplete requiring us often asking questions ourselves instead receiving clear guidance proactively offered upfront about optional dishes/private outdoor baths available via pamphlets left atop tables yet never verbally addressed leaving uncertainty how-to proceed ultimately resulting no additional services utilized whatsoever including final checkout process wherein despite seeing said assigned staff present behind reception desk upon returning keys awaiting further instructions remained unacknowledged indefinitely forcing inquiry directly ourselves clarifying payment procedures instead naturally concluding smoothly otherwise expectedly anticipated departure experience marred lingering dissatisfaction impression communication barriers persisted between couple/attendant interactions observed overall detracting enjoyment otherwise memorable visit expectations unmet regrettably noted herein constructive feedback shared candidly respectfully intended improvement opportunities future guests alike     It was a very comfortable accommodation.

    I used this Ryokan for my long-service leave and my first overnight stay with my first grandchild. The traditional atmosphere unique to a long-established Ryokan, the meals made with ingredients that are gentle on the body in just the right portions, and despite not reserving a meal, they kindly prepared rice balls and dashi omelet for my 1.5-year-old grandchild, which was greatly appreciated. The Onsen had a slightly lower temperature but was perfect for relaxing during the hot season. The hostess and dedicated staff provided heartfelt hospitality, making it an extremely satisfying experience. Thank you very much!

    Traditional Ryokan

    The access was not very convenient, but the hospitality was excellent. It felt like returning to a countryside home, in both good and bad ways. If the amenities, including in-room towels, were more complete, it would become an accommodation I’d want to stay at again.

    It was an excellent accommodation.

    I have stayed at many Onsen accommodations before, but this one ranks in my top 3. Located in a quiet residential area, the accommodation welcomes you with a pond filled with lotus flowers. The garden features tall and magnificent red pines, accompanied by the lively sound of cicadas, making you forget you're in a residential area. The room we stayed in had an open-air bath attached and was spacious, impeccably maintained, and exceptionally clean. The private open-air bath had lukewarm water, which was perfect for me as I enjoy soaking for longer periods. Even though it was just a one-night stay, I used it three times! Additionally, having plenty of bath towels provided was incredibly convenient. The meals were all delicious and more than enough for someone like me who eats small portions. It was such a satisfying Ryokan that I would love to visit again!

    The stay at this Ryokan was the most satisfying and luxurious experience so far. Additionally, the hostess was very friendly, and it was great to have various conversations with her.

    Highly satisfied.

    We stayed as a couple. We were upgraded to a very spacious room. The onsen and the in-room meals were excellent. Since we usually avoid public baths, we were very satisfied with the private open-air bath in the room. Around the accommodation, lotus flowers were blooming, and together with the sound of wind chimes, it was incredibly soothing. We would love to stay here again!

    After considering various conditions for staying with small children, we chose this accommodation. The facility had an impression of being aged, but it was well-maintained and clean.     Quiet and relaxing

    We stayed as a couple and had a wonderful experience. We always look for accommodations with open-air baths and beds, and this time we chose to stay here. The room was incredibly spacious and luxurious, so much so that it felt almost too large for just the two of us. The meals served in the room were delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. Additionally, the temperature of the open-air bath was perfect, allowing us to relax completely—truly satisfying. The staff member attending to us seemed very experienced, which made our stay even more comfortable. As we left, the hostess waved at us with a smile, which made us very happy. Next time, I would love to bring my grandchild along!

    The price does not match...

    The amenities are limited, such as the lack of hair ties and cotton swabs. Regarding customer service, there was no greeting even when passing by staff on the way to the Onsen in the morning. Plates were placed in front of us in a rushed manner during meals, which lacked a sense of attentiveness. The Facility's interior appears older than shown on IKYU.com photos. The photos on their official website are closer to reality, so it is better to check them before making a Reservation. While the quality of the bath is good, details like poorly maintained plants around the large communal bath and visible storage areas detract from its appearance. As for meals, items like somen noodles and corn rice gave an impression of cost-cutting. The taste was average. Another concern was that when I used a massage chair in the evening, the towel draped over it remained unchanged until morning. It would be better if such towels were replaced after use. Additionally, plum wine sold at 2,000 yen in their shop was listed as 4,000 yen on their dinner menu; this discouraged me from ordering it. I had made my Reservation months ago and looked forward to my stay but found many aspects not worth the price paid. If pricing were more reasonable, I might have been more satisfied.

    I felt relaxed and rejuvenated.

    I chose this accommodation with the theme of relaxing and unwinding, and it was absolutely the right choice! I would love to stay here again when I visit Kanazawa. The room, bath, and meals were all incredibly satisfying! The room was clean, very spacious, and I could relax while enjoying the scent of tatami mats. The meals were carefully prepared dish by dish, with just the right portions, and everything was delicious. Additionally, the staff were kind and attentive to every detail, making the overall service excellent. There is a shuttle service from Matto Station (10 minutes by train from Kanazawa Station), so there was no stress in getting here. It’s amazing to feel so close to nature and relax completely. I definitely want to stay here again!

    It was an accommodation with great satisfaction.

    We stayed at the accommodation the day before meeting our daughter's fiancé's family. My husband, who loves onsen, was very satisfied with the quality of the water. There were baths in two locations: a large public bath and one on the top floor, and even the room's bath seemed to have natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source. It warmed us to our core and allowed us to relax completely. The meals were beautifully presented kaiseki cuisine that harmonized perfectly with their dishes. Each dish was meticulously prepared, conveying the care of those who cooked them. The rice cooked in a traditional pot had such an aromatic fragrance that we couldn't resist having seconds! Even dessert at the end was delicious, and we appreciated that there wasn't too much food for our family—it was just right for us. After checking out, we didn’t realize we had forgotten something until they kindly contacted us about it. When I called back the next day, they informed me they had sent it directly to our home—such thoughtful hospitality truly moved us. The meeting between both families went smoothly, and after visiting Komatsu and Kanazawa together, it turned into a wonderful trip overall. We would love to stay here again when visiting Komatsu in the future! Thank you so much for taking care of everything this time around!
