    Service...

    The Room was spacious, and it was nice to have an in-room bath with Onsen. The meals felt appropriate for the price—neither particularly good nor bad. The private open-air bath had no amenities at all (no shampoo, etc.), so it was basically just for soaking, and I needed to bathe again afterward. That was disappointing. Also, I had to go outside once to get there, and it was cold. Overall, the service did not feel worth the price. First, although our Plan included access to the open-air bath, we were told it would be charged separately until we pointed it out. Also, my wife wasn’t feeling well and we stopped dinner early and returned to our Room, but they continued serving food for two people anyway. I wish they had handled the situation more flexibly. In particular, because my wife wasn’t well, we slightly soiled the sheets. We informed them immediately and were told they would check the Room; after that there was no explanation at all, yet at checkout we were charged a very expensive cleaning fee. Even then they only said, “It’s for cleaning the sheets.” It was my first time experiencing this kind of response, and I was shocked by how high the amount was. Although I couldn’t accept it, I ended up paying anyway. Thinking about it again now, I want a refund. I will never use this place again.

    Unfortunately, it felt a bit underwhelming.

    I booked this accommodation because it is close to the bamboo forest and I wanted to see the autumn leaves. It’s about a 5-minute walk from the bamboo forest, but the steep slope leading to the entrance of the accommodation seemed challenging for elderly guests or those with mobility issues. Although I arrived much earlier than check-in time, they allowed me to park my car, so I was able to enjoy exploring Shuzenji at a leisurely pace. After check-in, a staff member greeted us and provided explanations in the lobby only but did not guide us to our room. Instead, we were told to find our way there ourselves, which felt unusual. At the end of their explanation, they asked if we had any questions or requests. My husband is tall and has a large build, so we always request extra-large-sized room wear at every accommodation we stay at. However, when I made this request here, they said that room wear sizes are prepared based on height information provided during reservation—though no such information was requested during booking! Despite always making this request upon check-in elsewhere without issue (even if forgotten during booking), they didn’t accommodate it here either. We were told to check for ourselves after reaching our room—and as expected—the standard size didn’t fit him! We had no choice but to call reception again and place another order for larger-sized room wear after arriving in our room. Upon entering our room: - The fridge was empty; there were no welcome drinks. - While there was a coffee machine available: - The pot inside was empty. - There wasn’t even water in the machine itself. - Only four bottles of 500ml mineral water were provided as part of their service. Considering that we reserved an expensive plan/room type overall—it felt quite lacking in hospitality/service quality. The staff member assigned showed good communication skills throughout—but overall left me feeling disappointed due largely due these small yet impactful shortcomings repeatedly encountered post-checkin experience onwards... The private bath attached within-room itself comfortably fits two people; its onsen water being clear/colorless smooth-textured & temperature-perfectly balanced... However: 1) Heavy chairs near washbasins weren’t practical nor comfortable enough usage-wise; 2) No seating options existed anywhere between shower area-to-outdoor-bathroom spaces where one could rest momentarily relax cool-off etc., which might pose challenges especially anyone weaker physically/mobility-impaired alike! Amenities-wise though? Absolutely top-notch satisfaction guaranteed!! Shampoo-conditioner-body soap all smelled amazing while everything else needed toiletries/bathing-related items already pre-stocked meant zero necessity bringing anything additional along whatsoever beforehand! Sleeping arrangements featured traditional Japanese-style tatami flooring combined thick mattress futon bedding setup resembling hybridized "Japanese-Western" bed-like comfort levels ensuring restful sleep relaxation achieved easily too!! Both dinner breakfast meals served generously portioned deliciously satisfying taste-wise alike albeit ordering alcohol beverages via QR-code system slightly inconvenient detracted somewhat dining enjoyment factor personally speaking perhaps subjective preference matter ultimately though... Overall impression unfortunately marred numerous disappointing aspects encountered cumulatively despite certain positives noted above nonetheless leaving lingering sense dissatisfaction behind reflecting back entire stay experience holistically summarized succinctly thus far shared observations feedback accordingly herein stated conclusion reached finally articulated comprehensively     I had a relaxing time.

    The accommodation had spacious and clean rooms, and the staff were exceptionally hospitable, making my stay very comfortable. Each dish was carefully prepared, easy to eat, and delicious. It is undoubtedly the best ryokan I have stayed at recently. I will visit again in a different season. Thank you very much!

    We stayed as a three...

    We stayed as a three-generation family, and everything was wonderful—the view from the room, the private open-air bath, and the meals. In particular, the staff member in charge during our private dining experience was very kind, provided detailed explanations, and made our time enjoyable.

    Family Trip

    The building itself feels a bit old, but the room we stayed in had clean wallpaper and tatami mats! The private dining room was spacious, and the food was delicious. However, one disappointing point was that despite being on an 11:00 AM checkout plan, about 30 minutes before checkout time, a male staff member suddenly unlocked and entered our room without ringing the bell. He likely mistook the room, but as we were all women staying together and in the middle of changing clothes, it was shocking and extremely unpleasant. At the same time, we received a call from the front desk. Before I could introduce myself upon answering, they mentioned another guest's name without confirmation. When I clarified it wasn't us, they abruptly hung up. I believe the hotel should have been aware of which rooms had not yet checked out and confirmed this properly beforehand. It was very disappointing to end our stay this way after booking a late checkout plan and being satisfied with other aspects like meals.

    Highly Satisfied

    The meals, room, and bath were truly wonderful. The meals were served in a private dining room, which was spacious and quiet, allowing us to enjoy our time peacefully. Every dish was excellent. The bath was also great; however, it seemed to overlap with the timing of day-use guests, leading to some crowding and even waiting for a spot in the washing area—hence one minor drawback. Other than that, we were very satisfied overall. We would love to stay here again!

    Wide selection of beverages. Excellent cuisine.

    The entrance and area in front of the toilet were dark and felt unsafe. The tea set placed near the toilet was in a narrow, dimly lit space, making it unappealing to use. I wonder what types of tea were provided. If there were a place to boil water near the sink, it would feel more inviting to enjoy tea. The Room was cold at dawn, so I turned on the air conditioner only to find it was set to cooling mode. While chatting in the Room, we looked for alcoholic beverages in vending machines within the facility but found only non-alcoholic options available; a note about this during facility orientation would have been appreciated. The refrigerator was empty—I wished there had been drinks inside. It was nice that an air purifier was provided. As for meals, especially dinner, every detail showed great care and attention; the taste was exceptional! I would love to come back just for the food again.

    Had a great time.

    It was a wonderful accommodation, and we had a great time. The meals were delicious, and we were very satisfied. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the private open-air bath as all reservations were full. However, since there was an available room, we were upgraded to a room with a semi-open-air bath where we could enjoy the onsen, which was great. The soft onsen water felt very pleasant. One thing that concerned us was the smell in the hallway, which seemed to be from the restroom. We would love to visit again!

    Kobo Daishi Fireworks Festival Day

    Within walking distance from the accommodation, you can enjoy the Shuzenji Fireworks Festival. The fireworks were spectacular, especially when viewed from a recommended spot suggested by the staff while enjoying the illuminated bamboo forest. We had young children and elderly family members with us, but it was convenient to return to the accommodation in about 10 minutes, making everyone happy. The meals were elegant and exceptional; however, if I may add a suggestion, the deep-fried river crabs were served whole, which made even adults hesitant to eat them. Additionally, having milk available for children would have been appreciated. Other than that, the staff's warm smiles and hospitality made our stay truly wonderful.

    A Time for Relaxation

    The room, meals, service, and scenery... everything was truly healing! I have traveled many times a year with friends and my husband, staying at various accommodations, but this is one of the few places that felt truly comfortable. The nearby bamboo grove was beautiful, and the locals in the area were friendly. It felt like the whole town had a relaxing atmosphere. If you're looking for a place to unwind, I highly recommend visiting! Additionally, after reading reviews and seeing how sincerely each one is addressed by SORA staff, I could feel their genuine care. It was truly an exceptional accommodation. Just one thing: I used the private open-air bath in our room several times; however, as time passed, the water would cool down and turn cold. When draining it to refill with hot water again, we found it difficult to remove the plug due to water pressure—two middle-aged women struggling together (laughs). It would be helpful if there were something like a chain or handle attached for easier removal. While there was a small hook on top of the plug for fingers to pull on, repeated use ended up scratching my nails... If there's an easier way to remove it next time around or instructions provided beforehand about how best to do so during check-in/introduction—it’d make things even better!

    This is my second stay, and it is a wonderful accommodation.

    We visited with my parents, making it a group of four, and from the moment we arrived until we left, they praised this wonderful accommodation! The garden was beautiful and well-maintained, giving the feeling of being in Kyoto. The room and hallways were impeccably clean. The three-sided mirror in the room made it easy to style hair, and there were color-coded towels for each person in the restroom along with deodorizing spray. Even my mother, who is very particular about cleanliness and often finds dust or odors even at luxury ryokans, was delighted to stay here comfortably without any concerns! The meals were perfect—from seasonal ingredients to flavors, presentation, and even the tableware! She said it was as refined and delicious as dining at a high-end restaurant in Kyoto. It’s unfortunate that photos can’t fully convey how amazing everything was. We were truly surprised by this level of quality at such a reasonable price. This was my second visit with my husband; during our first visit as well as this time around, he finished every dish despite usually leaving food behind—and even went for seconds during both dinner and breakfast! (laughs) After dinner, we enjoyed the large public bath before taking an evening stroll outside. Later in our room when we wanted wine past 10:30 PM—despite being outside regular hours—the staff kindly brought us a bottle of wine with smiles on their faces. We are so grateful for their exceptional service. Every staff member greeted us warmly throughout our stay; thanks to them we had such a pleasant experience from start to finish. We will definitely return during autumn foliage season! Thank you so much again. I highly recommend this accommodation to friends or family like my sister’s family—it’s absolutely worth visiting!

    I stayed at this accommodation for the first time in 40 years. The location has changed, and it is now a beautiful building. The room was very spacious, impeccably clean, and comfortable. The meals were excellent, with delicious dishes served on beautiful tableware in a quiet and spacious private dining room. Breakfast was also diverse, featuring warm plates of dried fish and individually cooked rice with crispy edges that were exceptional. Thoughtful touches like wetting the rice paddle to prevent sticking showed great attention to detail. We chose a plan that included access to a private bath and opted for the rock bath. It was thoroughly cleaned, spacious enough for 7-8 people, and very relaxing. There was also a free drink café where we enjoyed soft drinks. We visited on my husband's birthday, and upon mentioning this casually, we received a commemorative gift—a lovely gesture! The staff member who attended us was very sincere and provided clear explanations about the dishes. This accommodation offers exceptional hospitality with meticulous attention to detail. I look forward to staying here again in the future!

    It was relaxing.

    The view from the Room is soothing. Unfortunately, it was too hot to relax on the terrace. The meals were kaiseki cuisine and delicious, but it would be nice to have a bit more meat dishes. Although the building shows some signs of aging, the amenities were clean and well-maintained.

    Great view

    It was an extremely hot day, and even a short walk left me drenched in sweat. Since the station bench had no air conditioning, I rested in the lobby well before check-in time. The view from the lobby was captivating and kept me entertained. Thank you for your hospitality! The garden was spacious, and though I wanted to explore it, it was too hot to enjoy a leisurely stroll. However, the room was clean, and the view from the window was filled with lush greenery. I decided to relax at the Ryokan without overexerting myself during summer and headed to enjoy the Onsen early on. The food was absolutely delicious as well. I didn’t encounter other guests during my stay, and since meals were served in private rooms, there were no concerns about privacy or discomfort. Although I forgot to submit my feedback form properly, Mr. K., who attended us with exceptional service—thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality! My apologies for not being able to thank you directly at checkout through this message instead. Thank you for two amazing days! I hope to visit again when it’s cooler next time!

    The garden and meals are wonderful.

    The service and meals were satisfactory. The garden and the forest behind the Ryokan were also truly wonderful. However, I felt that more consideration is needed for the timing of switching between male and female use of the Onsen (I bathed before dinner and again before breakfast, but it was the same bath). Additionally, I was very concerned about a musty smell in the Room. It is unclear whether this odor came from the Room itself or due to insufficient maintenance of the air conditioning system. Improvement is requested.

    A tranquil garden surrounded by greenery

    Thank you for another wonderful stay at Ichian, an accommodation we would love to visit again. We would like to mention two points that caught our attention this time. It would be helpful to have a dedicated bucket for rinsing off sweat near the cold spring after using the sauna. The entrance was dark at midnight, and we stumbled on the stairs. A gate light to illuminate the steps would be appreciated.

    The meals were truly delicious.

    Shuzenji Onsen, Sora offers truly delicious meals. The rice cooked in an earthen pot is exceptional. The dinner menu, featuring seasonal sweetfish and young corn as appetizers, was excellent. This time, I stayed in a semi-open-air bath room on the 5th floor and was very satisfied. I plan to visit again in autumn. Thank you!

    Great garden and location!

    Located in the heart of sightseeing in Shuzenji Onsen, it offers convenient access to recommended attractions, including the bamboo grove! The garden in front of the hotel lobby is delightful. The pond features magnificent koi swimming gracefully. Surrounded by lush greenery, I would love to stay again during the autumn foliage season! Unexpectedly, we were upgraded from our original reservation and enjoyed a private open-air onsen (thank you). Meals were served in a private room where we could relax and savor delicious dishes. Overall, it was a luxurious experience. A memorable and wonderful accommodation!

    I had a relaxing time.

    The room was clean, and the Wi-Fi worked well. The semi-open-air bath in the room was an Onsen, allowing for a relaxing soak. The meals were delicious. The garden was also wonderful. At night, we visited a nearby park to see fireflies, and after checking out, we enjoyed walking through the bamboo grove path and exploring Shuzenji Temple nearby. We fully enjoyed our time in Shuzenji. Thank you very much!

    This was my fourth stay. I enjoyed a relaxing time at this accommodation with its calm atmosphere. Meals were served in a private dining room. While no particularly luxurious ingredients were used and the number of dishes wasn't overwhelming, the refined flavors and beautifully presented dishes showcased the chef's excellent sense and meticulous work. The sashimi of squid, paired with just a touch of salted kelp, was especially delightful—a perfect balance of umami and sweetness that felt like a new discovery. The staff member serving our meal was a young male newcomer. Though his service was slightly awkward, his earnest effort left a positive impression. Considering the labor shortages in the hospitality industry, I believe it’s important for guests to approach young workers or foreign staff with patience and support to help nurture their growth in this field.

    It wasn't quite what I expected.

    I had high expectations for a five-star hotel, but overall, I didn't feel the quality matched that level. The Onsen quality was excellent. The food was enjoyable, especially the marinated squid and the mochi served at breakfast. However, the salted horse mackerel was difficult to eat as it had too many bones and very little meat. There was thoughtful attention to detail with designated spots for shoes and sandals in each room, which was helpful. While cleaning was done properly, the bath area, room, and stairs felt outdated. With some improvements, it could become more comfortable—please keep up the effort!

    The Onsen and meals were excellent.

    The service was excellent, and I had a pleasant stay. The Onsen was so good that I could feel the improvement in my skin condition. The water temperature was on the hotter side. The meals were enjoyable with a mix of ocean and mountain vibes. The power stones were also exciting!

    We enjoyed a relaxing and luxurious time.

    The Room, meals, and bath were all of the highest quality. Meals were enjoyed in a private room, providing a calm and relaxing experience. Despite many guests staying, we hardly encountered anyone and had a peaceful stay, which was very satisfying. Next time, I would like to visit with my parents.

    Everything was excellent.

    We stayed for one night as a family to celebrate my mother's birthday in March. The view was stunning, and the clean room with a semi-open-air bath featuring Onsen water and the scent of cypress was amazing. The room was thoughtfully designed for comfort, even providing Aesop shampoo, making it perfect. The quality of the Onsen was excellent—no added water, heating, or disinfectants—and it left our skin feeling smooth and deeply warmed no matter how many times we bathed. Meals were served in a private dining area where we could relax, and each dish was incredibly delicious. The staff were also very kind! Although we couldn't fully enjoy the garden due to rain, it seemed like an ideal spot for evening relaxation. As expected from the renowned Togetsuso Inn, even my mother—a certified travel supervisor—was thoroughly satisfied. We hope to visit again during another season!
