    Once again, this was a wonderful Accommodation.

    Every summer vacation, we take my parents to an Onsen, but this year we also visited family graves and traveled to Sendai, Matsushima, and Kesennuma. We stayed at a luxury Accommodation in Matsushima, but unfortunately it was disappointing. For the last day of our holiday, we had a Reservation at Shuzenji Sora as usual. We completely forgot about the earlier stay and were soothed by Sora’s delicious meals, beautiful garden, large public bath, and the view from our Room. My mother and I even said, “Whenever we come to Sora, we never want to leave!” My husband also commented that the staff are clearly well trained and that the cleaning is flawless. Rates are higher during the Obon holidays, but they were still very reasonable and not much different from usual. If we hadn’t been traveling in Tohoku first, we would have loved to stay for two nights! My husband said next time we should relax and stay for two nights!! We also request the Lomi Lomi massage every time—the therapist truly understands the body. Our whole family says it’s better than any hotel or spa in Tokyo, and we praise it every visit—if it were closer, we’d come regularly! Thank you very much for taking such great care of us again. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. We will visit again over the New Year holidays!

    I was looking forward to it, but

    Honestly, this stay was very disappointing. There were five of us: three women, one man, and one child. We had informed you in advance of the number of guests and our group composition, including yukata sizes, but there were only two pairs of women’s indoor sandals. In addition, at checkout we were given only two bath additives as a “gift for women.” We did not mention it on the spot, but it was disappointing to feel that this would not be corrected even at the end. The most disappointing part was the meals. The fried item in the appetizer seemed to have been left out for quite some time; it was completely cold and had gone hard. Overall portions were small, and the meat in the hot pot was very thin pork. We had been looking forward to the food, so it did not meet expectations. Even at breakfast, the green onions in the miso soup were dried out… and our child’s scrambled eggs were also cold and set. Regarding service as well—perhaps it was a busy time—there were small details that concerned us. An aperitif was placed at our child’s seat, while a child’s floor cushion was placed at an adult’s seat; it felt like seating checks were not thorough. As for payment, we paid about ¥130,000 for five people in total, but we were not issued a Receipt with a revenue stamp affixed. We wanted everything to be properly confirmed through to the end. On a positive note, both the bath in our Room and the large public bath were great, and the bedding was excellent—we were able to rest well. However, when steam formed on the mirror in our Room bathroom area (and likewise on the bathroom window), graffiti that appeared to be from previous guests became visible. It may not normally be noticeable, but I think it should be checked once after cleaning. We could tell that your younger staff members were working hard. Precisely because of that effort, I believe this could become a good Accommodation if more careful checks are made regarding料理や基本的なサービスの部分でもう少し丁寧に確認していただければ、良い宿になるのではないかと思います。 Even taking into account that it was during Obon season, this stay—starting with the meals—was extremely disappointing overall. I do not think we will return.

    We were very satisfied.

    The Room, the cuisine, and the garden were all wonderful, and we had an amazing time. The staff member in charge of our Room explained everything clearly and provided attentive, excellent service. Her lovely smile was truly comforting—thank you very much. We would definitely like to stay again.

    It was a wonderful accommodation!

    We stayed for two nights to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Both the garden and the Room had a wonderful atmosphere and a real sense of history, and everything was impeccably clean, including the Facility. It was truly outstanding. I can only imagine how much effort it takes to preserve such beauty in a building with so much history. The food was also excellent—both breakfast and dinner were delicious. I had been a little worried because some Reviews mentioned that the flavors were bland or not worth the price, but both the taste and portion sizes were perfect. Those who prefer very strong seasoning might feel differently, but for others I think it will be very satisfying. The staff were also exceptional, and our attendant took great care of us until the end. Although we hadn’t specifically mentioned that it was his birthday, they picked up on it from our conversation and even prepared a surprise gift, which truly moved us. Overall, it was a wonderful trip and we are very satisfied. We would love to visit again if we have the chance. Thank you very much.

    This is an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again!

    We stayed here for my mother’s birthday trip. First of all, the garden was beautiful and very soothing. The smoking area—something my mother was worried about (laughs)—was also easy to access, which we really appreciated. There were sightseeing spots such as a bamboo grove and a shrine just a short walk away, making it a perfect location for strolling. We were able to take our time enjoying the streets of Shuzenji and were very satisfied. We enjoyed dinner in our Room in a calm, relaxed setting. The portions were generous and we were extremely satisfied. The annin tofu in particular looked beautiful and was so delicious that it truly impressed us. From the Room we could see the garden, and the view was wonderful. It was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and we slept soundly. The open-air bath with lights was also magical and lovely. However, since it was a summer night, quite a few insects came by and surprised us a bit, so that was the only downside—we couldn’t soak as leisurely as we had hoped... Still, that’s to be expected with an open-air bath surrounded by nature, so there’s nothing to be done. The morning open-air bath felt amazing as well and is highly recommended. Breakfast was healthy, each dish was delicious, and it made us feel happy from the start of the day. Above all else, the hospitality from everyone—especially our attendant—was outstanding. Everyone was kind and flexible in accommodating us, which made this important trip with my mother truly memorable. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    We were very satisfi...

    We were very satisfied with the meals and service. Every dish at both breakfast and dinner was carefully prepared, and we enjoyed them very much. The bath was disappointing; when I went in for a morning bath, a group of guests with tattoos was there, which made me uncomfortable.

    I was captivated by the fresh greenery outside the window.

    It had the atmosphere of an Onsen Ryokan that felt somehow familiar, like a place I might have visited as a child, yet it also had a stylish presence—very satisfying. Both dinner and breakfast were delightful; they nourished both the eyes and the stomach. The town of Shuzenji was quiet and full of charm, and we were able to spend a truly wonderful time there.

    Everything was wonderful—we’ll definitely be back.

    Staying for two nights on weekdays may have helped, but this was the best Accommodation I’ve ever stayed at. I always choose an Accommodation with lots of Reviews praising the food, and the first night’s dinner here was outstanding—each dish was carefully crafted and absolutely delicious. The Onsen was wonderful as well: both the private open-air bath and the semi-open-air bath in the Room were very relaxing, and I also enjoyed unwinding in the large public bath since it was almost like having it to myself. The Room had a great view of the garden from the 5th floor, and I could truly relax while listening to birdsong and looking out at a window full of greenery. Lastly, if you stay here, I highly recommend taking a walk around the expansive courtyard. The soft moss-covered ground and huge moss-covered rocks were especially enjoyable. At night, since it was early June, I also got to enjoy watching fireflies at nearby Akagaeru Park—this is definitely a place I’ll return to.

    It was a truly wonderful accommodation.

    We stayed as a couple in a Room with a semi-open-air bath. It was a wonderful Room, with large windows overlooking fresh green trees! Because the semi-open-air bath isn’t affected by the outside air, I personally found it even better than an open-air bath. The tub is on the smaller side, but it’s more than enough for two. We were told we couldn’t choose where to dine, but we ended up having our meals served in our Room! Since we loved the Room so much, we felt very lucky. We also really appreciated that the champagne we brought was served at just the right time. The service from the male staff member who took care of our dining was outstanding—his warm hospitality naturally brought smiles to our faces. We made several requests, and every one of them was kindly accommodated, which we truly appreciated. The meal was extremely satisfying in both quality and portion size. It was beautifully presented and enjoyable to look at as well. After that, during the firefly evening event, we lost track of time watching them dance through the air before returning to our Room for another drink. It became a truly memorable night. Breakfast the next morning was also luxurious and very satisfying. With an 11:00 check-out, we were able to enjoy another bath—an excellent start to the day. There are various Reviews out there, but I was genuinely satisfied. I’d love to visit again during the autumn foliage season. Thank you for such a wonderful time and memories for us both.

    The staff’s calm dem...

    The staff’s calm demeanor and respectful, comfortable distance allowed us to relax and enjoy a leisurely stay. The amenities were also well provided. The basket bag was especially convenient when heading to the large public bath. I didn’t have time to use the bath in the Room, so it was a shame I couldn’t try the Aesop shampoo and other products.

    The garden is beautiful.

    The private dining room was spacious and relaxing, offering a strong sense of privacy, and we were very satisfied with the generous portions. They thoughtfully prepared an allergy-friendly menu for our child, which was a great help. The Onsen was at a comfortable temperature and easy to enjoy, with water that felt gentle on the skin. Above all, the Japanese garden created using the wooded hillside behind the building was breathtaking; its vast grounds were perfect for a leisurely stroll and left a lasting impression. The staff were also courteous and attentive, which we appreciated.

    Highly satisfied

    This is an Accommodation I had admired for a long time. It was an experience beyond my expectations. The woman in charge of our Room greeted us with a wonderful smile and provided pleasant, attentive service. The meals were excellent—my daughter, who usually eats small portions, even said, “I’m full, but I want to eat it all.” The breakfast menu was adorable with illustrations. The view from the Room was also soothing, with beautiful greenery from the trees. On our way home, our whole family talked about how we would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

    Overall, I was mostly satisfied, but I was dissatisfied with the customer service.

    We were satisfied with most aspects of the Facility, amenities, and meals. We also enjoyed strolling around the garden. However, while relaxing on the Room terrace, we could smell cigarette smoke—perhaps coming from a smoking area by the pond in the first-floor garden—and it was very unpleasant. I thought there was a notice saying the entire building was non-smoking… We were also very disappointed with the service from the staff member who guided us to our Room and assisted during dinner. From the Room introduction, they somehow gave off a strong “this is a hassle” vibe. This became obvious at dinner. While we were still enjoying dessert and drinks at the end of the meal, their attitude suggested they wanted us to finish quickly. Even though there was still beer left in both the bottle and our glasses, they hurriedly cleared our glasses away. It may sound exaggerated to say it felt like they snatched them away, but that’s how it came across. They cleared things away quickly not only for alcohol but even though we still had dessert left. When I said, “Sorry, I’m still drinking—could I have my glass back?” they returned it but replied curtly, “Dinner service is until 8:30 p.m., so please.” At that point it was exactly 8:30 p.m. I apologized and explained that we had not been informed about the time limit and had been enjoying ourselves at a relaxed pace; if we had been told in advance, we would have hurried. Although it felt wasteful to leave food and drinks unfinished, we left promptly. What should have been an enjoyable time with friends turned into a disappointing experience. It made me feel this person may not be suited for customer-facing service. So while we were generally satisfied overall, I rated my satisfaction as 3.

    This was my second stay, and once again both the delicious meals and the relaxing Onsen exceeded my expectations. The service is consistently excellent, making this a wonderful Accommodation where you can feel at ease. I would definitely like to stay again.

    To celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

    We stayed here to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. The location, Room, meals, and Onsen were all excellent. The meals in particular were delicious, and we enjoyed every moment! The staff were also very kind and attentive, and we were completely satisfied. We would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

    Shuzenji in Spring

    This was our second stay, following our visit last December. Last time we enjoyed the beautiful autumn leaves lingering into the season, so this time we came to see the cherry blossoms. While there were not as many cherry trees as there were autumn colors, we were still able to fully enjoy the beauty of Shuzenji in spring. At the Ryokan, the staff even remembered us, which made our stay very comfortable. We would love to visit again in a different season, and we also hope to return during the autumn foliage season. Unlike large-scale Hotels or Ryokans, the warm, personal service here suits our family perfectly.

    Open-Air Bath and Garden

    We drove down a narrow lane (about the width of one car) in the Onsen town and arrived at the Accommodation. Passing oncoming cars was difficult, but there were wider pull-off areas (about two cars wide), so it worked out. The Accommodation’s garden even had a waterfall, and it connects to a publicly accessible, spacious mountain walking trail where there are also “power spots,” so the area felt rich in nature and trees. The staff were generally kind; in particular, the person who served our in-Room meal even remembered my grandchild’s name, which left a very good impression. The private bath was an open-air Onsen bath and felt larger than the shared open-air bath. The view was great and it felt very open. However, the private bath is strictly just a bath—there is no shower or similar facilities. I bathed with my grandchild, but the water felt hotter than in the shared open-air bath. My grandchild wanted to get out early, so we switched with my daughter after 20 minutes (the private-bath slot was 40 minutes). The Room amenities were minimal, which may have been fine. I opened some items without knowing what they were and found they were skincare products I don’t usually use, so they ended up going to waste. There was an air purifier, but I would have liked a humidifier as well. It may have been included, but I couldn’t find the water tank. Because I have hay fever I end up breathing through my mouth, and my throat became dry during the night.

    A Cozy Accommodation

    The Room was kept very clean and well maintained, making our stay very comfortable. Every meal was thoughtfully prepared, delicious, and beautifully presented, and the staff in charge of our Room provided attentive service, which made for a truly enjoyable time. Thinking about the effort required to provide such hospitality, I am genuinely impressed. I would definitely like to stay again.

    The semi-open-air bath attached to the Room was wonderful.

    We were extremely satisfied and would definitely like to stay again. Meals were served in a private dining room. We could hardly hear voices from next door, so we were able to relax and enjoy our food at a leisurely pace. We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay, and the menu changed properly each day. Both dinner and breakfast were generous in portion size, beautifully presented, and delicious—everything was excellent. Our Room had a semi-open-air Onsen with free-flowing natural spring water, which felt wonderfully luxurious because we could enjoy it anytime we liked. At first it was cold, so we closed the window; once we were in the bath, we opened it fully to feel close to nature. It was convenient and well thought out—nothing but positives. The futon with a high-quality mattress was very comfortable, and the futon laid out on the heated wooden floor kept us pleasantly warm. There are also two private baths, and we used both. They were spacious with great views, and it felt like a little outing—very enjoyable. I brought my own drinks, but please note that there is no water or other beverages provided at the private baths. These days many lounges offer unlimited soft drinks and alcohol, but here they provided coffee, tea, and orange juice. I enjoyed an excellent café latte. In the end, an all-you-can-drink alcohol lounge would just be reflected in the accommodation price anyway, so I felt that soft drinks alone were more than sufficient. The refrigerator in the Room is empty from the start, so I think it’s best to buy alcohol at the shop on-site or simply pick up whatever you like at a convenience store. Points for improvement: The internet connection speed is slow—especially from late afternoon into evening when it’s likely busy—and I don’t think streaming videos or playing games would be possible. Also, since this Accommodation does not have staff accompany you into your Room upon arrival (so there is no room explanation), we weren’t shown how things worked. We didn’t notice the rod for removing the bath plug or even where to turn on floor heating until day two. I would have appreciated having these explained in advance. This trip became a wonderful family vacation. Above all else, we were able to enjoy Onsen luxuriously and spend our time relaxing slowly. Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay.

    This was our second ...

    This was our second stay, but unlike last time, we traveled with our grandchild. The Accommodation was very clean, and we had a wonderful time not only in the Room but also in the lobby, the large public bath, and the dining area. The meals were delicious, and the staff member who served us was warm and attentive. In particular, their thoughtful care for our child down to the smallest details made our time truly special. We will definitely choose to stay here again next time.

    Relaxing and thoroughly satisfying

    This was my first stay. Since we arrived early, they kindly allowed us to park in SORA’s parking lot, and we took a walk around the neighborhood. We enjoyed the charming atmosphere, including the bamboo grove path. After check-in, we stayed in a Room with a semi-open-air bath, and there were many thoughtful touches. Although it’s a tatami Room, it has a table and chairs—considerate for guests with knee pain who find floor chairs uncomfortable. When I was still warm from the Onsen and couldn’t stop sweating, the spacious deck outside the Room felt especially comfortable. The Room was spotless, and the toilet was modern—possibly the cleanest toilet I’ve ever seen. The meal included many dishes that clearly took a lot of time and effort; both the presentation and flavors were wonderful. The staff member who assisted us was also very personable and made an excellent impression, which made everything taste even better. The international staff also seemed hardworking, and I hope they keep it up. Overall, we were extremely satisfied. Thank you very much, SORA.

    A relaxing, soothing accommodation

    An exceptional Accommodation with attentive, detailed service and thoughtful touches throughout. From the amenities to the showerhead, everything is carefully selected, making for a truly comfortable stay that we thoroughly enjoyed. At this level, I think staying in Hakone would cost around 120,000 yen. Thank you for such a wonderful time. We would love to stay again.

    First Stay in 10 Years

    I stayed here again after a long time, as I hadn’t been able to visit since coming with a friend and his wife years ago. Since it was new back then, I arrived this time with slightly lower expectations, but everything—especially the meals and the baths—exceeded them. It had been a while since I last had in-room dining, and the attendant took great care of us. Although it was described as an indoor bath, the bath in our 5th-floor Room felt like a semi-open-air bath, which made it even more relaxing. We’re planning to visit again in May for my mother’s birthday with six people including my son and his wife, and we’re already looking forward to it. Thank you again.

    It was amazing.

    Located in the heart of the Shuzenji Onsen area, it’s very convenient for sightseeing. Once you step out of the Hotel, you can explore while taking a walk. When we arrived, the entrance was lovely and the garden was beautiful—just looking at it was a pleasure. We stayed in a Room with a garden view, and it truly helped us unwind from everyday fatigue. We could also enjoy the garden from the free drink bar; even with the same view, it felt relaxing in a different way. I loved both the beautiful garden and the Hotel’s interior design. The woman at reception on our arrival day was also the one who prepared our meals, and she was incredibly kind. On departure day, an Indian staff member (?) was also very kind and took several photos for us. Both dinner and breakfast were very stylish. The sashimi was fresh, and dishes made with locally produced black rice, fish, and miso were delicious. The portions were satisfying as well. Thank you very much. If I have another chance, I would definitely like to stay again.

    The hot bath was wonderful!

    The pleasant hospitality, delicious meals served on colorful tableware, and a great bath made for a truly relaxing stay. The Facility has been renovated and was spotless and clean, which felt wonderful. Towels and toothbrushes were color-coded for each guest, so it was easy to tell whose items were whose. The pajamas were comfortable with gauze lining on the inside, and the pillow height could be adjusted. Onsen water also flowed in the indoor bath, and since there was no need to travel far from the Room, I think it’s a great option even when bringing elderly guests. Thank you very much to Ms. M in charge and all the staff members.

    Service...

    The Room was spacious, and it was nice to have an in-room bath with Onsen. The meals felt appropriate for the price—neither particularly good nor bad. The private open-air bath had no amenities at all (no shampoo, etc.), so it was basically just for soaking, and I needed to bathe again afterward. That was disappointing. Also, I had to go outside once to get there, and it was cold. Overall, the service did not feel worth the price. First, although our Plan included access to the open-air bath, we were told it would be charged separately until we pointed it out. Also, my wife wasn’t feeling well and we stopped dinner early and returned to our Room, but they continued serving food for two people anyway. I wish they had handled the situation more flexibly. In particular, because my wife wasn’t well, we slightly soiled the sheets. We informed them immediately and were told they would check the Room; after that there was no explanation at all, yet at checkout we were charged a very expensive cleaning fee. Even then they only said, “It’s for cleaning the sheets.” It was my first time experiencing this kind of response, and I was shocked by how high the amount was. Although I couldn’t accept it, I ended up paying anyway. Thinking about it again now, I want a refund. I will never use this place again.

    Unfortunately, it felt a bit underwhelming.

    I booked this accommodation because it is close to the bamboo forest and I wanted to see the autumn leaves. It’s about a 5-minute walk from the bamboo forest, but the steep slope leading to the entrance of the accommodation seemed challenging for elderly guests or those with mobility issues. Although I arrived much earlier than check-in time, they allowed me to park my car, so I was able to enjoy exploring Shuzenji at a leisurely pace. After check-in, a staff member greeted us and provided explanations in the lobby only but did not guide us to our room. Instead, we were told to find our way there ourselves, which felt unusual. At the end of their explanation, they asked if we had any questions or requests. My husband is tall and has a large build, so we always request extra-large-sized room wear at every accommodation we stay at. However, when I made this request here, they said that room wear sizes are prepared based on height information provided during reservation—though no such information was requested during booking! Despite always making this request upon check-in elsewhere without issue (even if forgotten during booking), they didn’t accommodate it here either. We were told to check for ourselves after reaching our room—and as expected—the standard size didn’t fit him! We had no choice but to call reception again and place another order for larger-sized room wear after arriving in our room. Upon entering our room: - The fridge was empty; there were no welcome drinks. - While there was a coffee machine available: - The pot inside was empty. - There wasn’t even water in the machine itself. - Only four bottles of 500ml mineral water were provided as part of their service. Considering that we reserved an expensive plan/room type overall—it felt quite lacking in hospitality/service quality. The staff member assigned showed good communication skills throughout—but overall left me feeling disappointed due largely due these small yet impactful shortcomings repeatedly encountered post-checkin experience onwards... The private bath attached within-room itself comfortably fits two people; its onsen water being clear/colorless smooth-textured & temperature-perfectly balanced... However: 1) Heavy chairs near washbasins weren’t practical nor comfortable enough usage-wise; 2) No seating options existed anywhere between shower area-to-outdoor-bathroom spaces where one could rest momentarily relax cool-off etc., which might pose challenges especially anyone weaker physically/mobility-impaired alike! Amenities-wise though? Absolutely top-notch satisfaction guaranteed!! Shampoo-conditioner-body soap all smelled amazing while everything else needed toiletries/bathing-related items already pre-stocked meant zero necessity bringing anything additional along whatsoever beforehand!
