    As expected of Otani Sanso.

    Your outstanding hospitality made our stay truly comfortable. Thank you very much. The meals in particular were made with ingredients from Yamaguchi Prefecture, lightly seasoned and absolutely delicious—we were very satisfied. You also gave us detailed information about sightseeing on Omijima the next day, and the sightseeing boat fare was inexpensive. As for bath etiquette, it’s something we adults need to pass on to children. It feels like more people don’t know these manners these days—many seem unaware that you should rinse yourself with water before entering. We also appreciated that there were no foreign guests speaking loudly, which allowed us to relax during our stay. If we have the opportunity, we would love to stay in a different Room next time. Thank you very much.

    Enjoy the Onsen

    This is a large, impressive Ryokan. The Onsen was simply outstanding. Meals were buffet-style, but the fugu was exquisite, and there were pleasant surprises with the sushi and tempura as well.\nAbove all, the staff were attentive and made our stay very comfortable. Thank you also for your help with EV charging.

    It was wonderful.

    I stayed here for the first time on a friend’s recommendation. Both the property and the surrounding nature are simply beautiful. I was able to relax and feel truly refreshed.

    Impressed by the attentive service and the wonderful Accommodation!

    It was a wonderful Accommodation, just as rumored. The Onsen on the first floor was especially impressive. The service was very attentive, and since we arrived 30 minutes before our scheduled meal time, they kindly allowed us to delay it. When making the Reservation, I had ordered a birthday cake, and they also prepared a birthday melody played on a music box, a small flower basket, and even celebratory bite-sized sekihan (red bean rice) and sweets—it truly moved me.

    Highly satisfied

    I decided to visit the Simose Art Museum with friends, and chose this Accommodation—ranked 2nd in the Chugoku region—as our place to stay. It exceeded my expectations. A spacious, beautiful, and spotless space surrounded by nature, with thoughtful hospitality. The building’s luxurious sense of space and use of materials reminded me how wonderful it is—something you don’t often find in newer Hotels. The staff were excellent as well, and above all, the bath was so spacious!! In every way, I was completely satisfied. Next time, I’d love to return soon with my parents.

    A highly satisfying accommodation.

    We reserved a Room with an open-air bath for our anniversary trip. The staff provided attentive service with just the right amount of distance, and it was truly the best hospitality—soothing both body and mind. Even the younger employees were extremely kind and friendly, and it felt like their training was thorough in every detail. Everything was spotless, and we were once again impressed that this is a long-established Ryokan. If we had to mention one thing—truly, only if we had to—the toilet paper in the Room restroom was so soft that it tore easily and was a bit difficult to use. It’s such a minor point, but it’s honestly the only negative we could think of. The meals were delicious, and the baths were wonderful. This is an Accommodation we definitely want to visit again someday.

    A great Ryokan.

    I stay here once or twice every year, and I still think it is a consistently excellent Ryokan. Unlike Facilities like Hoshino that mistakenly believe guests will be pleased simply by making things look more luxurious and upgrading the food a little, this place has a different approach—you can feel the weight of its history and tradition in both the building and the staff. I would like to continue staying here in the future.

    A truly wonderful time

    We visited to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We were impressed right away by the warm welcome at the entrance. A staff member moved our car for us. My husband had forgotten his bag and cigarettes in the car, but each time they kindly went to retrieve them without showing any annoyance. In addition, since it was a birthday celebration, there was a flower basket and a message in our Room. It was truly a wonderful time. Next time, we would like to visit with our family. The only downside was that check-in was busy and we had to wait a little.

    Wonderful

    We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath. There were insects floating in the open-air bath, and we thought a small net would be better than a hand bucket for removing them. When adjusting the temperature of the open-air bath, we thought a stirring paddle would be better than a hand bucket. The TV embedded in the vanity mirror was surprisingly useful—very nice. All of the staff were excellent as well. It was an Accommodation where everyone always had a smile. The food was outstanding too. The astronomy dome was fun as well. We would like to visit again.

    Check-in was at 3:00...

    Check-in was at 3:00 PM, and the lobby was quite crowded. We enjoyed some sweets and matcha tea, which helped us relax right away. The staff member who assisted us was very kind, courteous, and pleasant. They also explained the firefly viewing tour and stargazing in an easy-to-understand way, so we were able to enjoy them. The meals were delicious, with just the right amount of food. The baths open from 6:00 AM in the morning, but since I wake up early, I went at 5:00 AM and they were still closed. I thought it would be nice if they opened around 5:00 AM. Also, many Ryokan these days provide high-quality hair dryers in the washroom area; while not necessarily all of them, it would be great if there were a few premium models like ReFa or Panasonic available. Since we use one at home all the time, my daughter said she wished she had brought her own dryer. This was my first visit in about 30 years, and a lot has changed—such as the dining venue—but these days it’s probably unavoidable that dining is mainly served in restaurants or buffet-style. The breakfast buffet also had an excellent selection. We had a relaxing one-night stay. Thank you very much.

    Everything was excellent. If you’re visiting Yamaguchi Prefecture, this is the Ryokan to choose. If I come again, I’ll definitely stay here.

    Comfortable

    When we arrived at the Accommodation by rental car around 4:00 p.m., several large buses were parked outside, so we worried the public bath and dining area might be crowded. However, perhaps because the public bath was spacious, we were able to relax and enjoy it both in the evening and early morning. The in-Room jacuzzi bath we used at night was also large and very satisfying. Dinner was served in a Reservation-only semi-private dining area, and we were happy with both the portion size and taste. However, since breakfast is not Reservation-based, even though we went early, we had to wait in the lobby for about 10 minutes. The buffet offered several kinds of small, delicious-looking breads, and it was hard to choose. In the end I could only try three types—too bad. If I get another chance next time, I plan to try more. As for the Facility overall, the building itself may be a bit old, but the interior was clean and well maintained. The staff were attentive and always smiling. This is one Ryokan I found very comfortable and would like to visit again.

    Otani Sanso

    Perhaps because my expectations were high, there were many disappointing aspects. Unfortunately, some staff interactions felt careless, and there was more chatting than necessary, which made it hard to focus on the meal. The bath was excellent and very relaxing. Considering it is an older Accommodation, it seems well maintained and clean. However, perhaps due to understaffing, the service was disappointing.

    It was a wonderful Accommodation, just as rumored. One thing—I'd have appreciated pajamas or something like a samue. Even for us from the Showa generation, sleeping in a yukata is quite difficult; it always comes undone.

    This has become one of the places I’d love to stay at again.

    I stayed here for the first time while in Shimonoseki for work (and sightseeing). I rented a car at Fukuoka Airport, did some sightseeing along the way, and drove about 200 km. The moment I stepped inside, I was immediately impressed by the lobby. Otani Sanso truly lived up to its reputation. I arrived in the evening and left early in the morning, so next time I’d like to take my time and enjoy it more. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Grave visit

    Although it was a Multiple Night Stay under the short-stay Plan, the bath was spacious and relaxing. The meals were different on the first and second days, and both were delicious. The Room had twin beds, so I could sleep comfortably, and I enjoyed a pleasant two-night stay. At breakfast, however, there was a large group and the Accommodation was fully booked, so I couldn’t be served right away and my morning schedule was delayed немного disappointing.

    This is a wonderful Accommodation.

    I’d been looking forward to my stay, especially after a friend recommended it. The lobby was spacious and wonderful, and the Room was clean and comfortable. I was impressed by the relaxing design touches, such as a bench along the corridor side of the Japanese-style room. Since I arrived early, it felt pleasant to be greeted by staff who were cleaning. The staff member who guided me wore a pink kimono that matched the cherry blossoms in full bloom. In the evening, I was also able to do some stargazing, and I was truly moved by how luxurious this Accommodation felt. It was well worth traveling 500 kilometers to visit. If I have another chance, I would definitely like to book a Multiple Night Stay next time. Finally—dinner was exquisite.

    Always amazing, no matter how many times you visit! A long-established Ryokan known for its warm hospitality

    I stayed for one night during cherry blossom season. This time I made a Reservation for a guest room with an open-air bath, and the free-flowing Onsen water spilling over each time I got in felt wonderful. It was the perfect size with plenty of space even for my family, and the water quality was excellent—my skin became unbelievably smooth, so I enjoyed it again and again. The Onsen and large public bath are certainly appealing, but the meals were outstanding—especially the fugu sashimi and deep-fried tiger pufferfish, which were exquisite. The attendants were all refined and attentive; every visit reminds me why this is such a renowned Ryokan. Perhaps part of what made it so reassuring was that there were no foreign attendants—everyone seemed to be Japanese staff who had received thorough hospitality training. Guests ranged from seniors to families with children, and I noticed many people staying longer, such as three nights. After dinner, I joined the stargazing session: we looked at craters on the moon, they even took photos for us on our phones, and in the end they let my child “shake hands” with the moon using a laser pointer. It was such a fun time. The next day, I enjoyed shopping at the gift shop—buying Dassai sake, uiro sweets, and Hagi ware bear-shaped tea bowls as souvenirs… It made me think, “Ah—I should stay longer next time.” Otani Sanso is truly charming no matter how many times you visit.

    Thank you for your hospitality. Everything was very clean, and the staff provided attentive service. The meals were delicious, with well-prepared dishes served in just the right portions. We also enjoyed the wide selection of local sake. The Room was wonderful and the bed was comfortable; however, the toilet door rattled, and we felt it would be even better if this could be improved.

    This was my second stay. Everything was perfect, both the facilities and the service. I also appreciated the very courteous communication when I contacted you in advance. I booked a dinner-and-breakfast Plan, and truly enjoyed the delicious “Nagato no Harameku Kaze” meal made with local ingredients. Please pass my regards on to the head chef as well. Next time, I would like to visit for a Multiple Night Stay.

    My Wife’s Birthday

    This was my second stay at Otani Sanso. As expected, it was outstanding. Over the past year, I stayed at well-known Ryokan in Kinosaki Onsen, Yufuin, and Tamatsukuri Onsen, and this one is by far No. 1. The staff’s hospitality is truly unmatched.     This Accommodation is a great choice anytime you visit.

    We are always satisfied with the Room, meals, and staff. The bath is spacious, so it still feels roomy even when there are many guests. It’s also nice that towels are provided. However, sleeping in a yukata isn’t very relaxing, so it would be perfect if pajamas were also available in the Room. Thank you for the complimentary drinks in the Room as well.

    Comfortable Service

    Everyone at the Hotel was truly thoughtful and provided comfortable service. The meals were delicious, and the baths were spacious; even though it’s a large Hotel, it never felt noisy, so I could relax. Wonderful! I’d love to visit again.

    An outstanding Accommodation with excellent cuisine, guest rooms, and hospitality.

    I stay here every year as a treat for myself. This time was another wonderful stay. As for the Onsen, the large public bath uses a recirculating filtration system, but it has a lovely atmosphere and a spacious layout, and it never feels crowded. Towels and amenities such as toner and lotion are also provided, so you can use the public bath empty-handed. If you choose a room with an open-air Onsen bath, you can enjoy free-flowing natural hot spring water. If you prefer to avoid recirculated Onsen water, I highly recommend booking a room with an open-air bath. The dining is also excellent. In rooms with an open-air bath, you can enjoy the “Special Kaiseki,” a course served one dish at a time. The quality is outstanding: the hiryozu arrives piping hot, and the sashimi selection always features fresh local seafood. This time it was young tuna (yokowa) and dorosho squid—I’ve never experienced sashimi of this caliber at an Onsen Accommodation. In winter, the Special Kaiseki also includes deep-fried tiger pufferfish. It’s no exaggeration to say I come here just to eat that fugu. Every single dish is superb. After dinner, there is live jazz in the lobby; ordering drinks at the bar in that setting makes for an even more special evening. For breakfast I always choose the buffet. The made-to-order omelets prepared by the chef are delicious—especially the Japanese-style omelet. The curry is great too. All of the bread is house-made and on par with specialty bakeries. The welcome drink is matcha tea, typically served with Mihorido uiro as a sweet. When it’s brought out, I truly feel like “I’m back at Otani Sanso.” The staff’s hospitality is excellent as well—this is simply a wonderful Accommodation where both body and mind can fully relax. I’m already looking forward to visiting again next year.

    We chose a Room with an open-air Onsen bath, and ended up soaking a total of eight times. The meals focused on quality over quantity, and we were very satisfied.     Thoughtful Hospitality

    I heard great reviews about this accommodation and wanted to visit once. The staff's attentive service left a very positive impression. The variety of dishes was just right for us, and we enjoyed every bite until the end. The large bath area staff kept everything meticulously clean, making it a very pleasant experience. The view from the window was like a breathtaking painting framed perfectly. However, it is slightly inconvenient to access without a car... The accommodation lived up to its high ratings in every way. Visiting here became our purpose... such an exceptional place to stay. Thank you for your hospitality!
