    The food was excellent.

    The portions were described as modest but high-quality, and I found both the quantity and quality to be excellent. The Onsen was also great.

    Excellent meals!

    The meals were delicious. The sashimi, grilled fish, and meat were all very satisfying, and I couldn't stop eating the white rice at breakfast. The Room was smaller than expected. Was it Ryukyu tatami? It felt hard. The sink area was narrow, as expected, and water splashed everywhere, even dripping down my elbows to my feet.

    For family trips

    We stayed here for a family trip and enjoyed the stunning views offered by this Ryokan, which takes advantage of the natural terrain. From both our Room and the bath, we could admire the beautiful scenery of Matsushima, but the view from the lounge and footbath was truly exceptional. The hospitality provided by all staff members was very pleasant, with smooth and efficient service that made our stay comfortable. The meals were delightful, featuring a variety of ingredients with each dish being incredibly delicious. The portions were more than generous. We would love to stay here again when traveling near Matsushima in the future.

    It was an excellent Hotel!!

    The staff's courteous service and attentiveness were truly excellent, just as mentioned in the reviews. The lobby, room, and large public bath were all clean and provided a very comfortable stay. Additionally, I enjoyed the beautifully presented three-tiered breakfast box, which was delicious.

    Highly Satisfied

    I traveled with my parents. My Room was upgraded. Although I requested dinner later and it was described as "light," it turned out to be very hearty and delicious. Breakfast was also very tasty. My parents were delighted with the sea-view Room. All the staff were very kind, and I would love to stay again. The variety of welcome drinks was enjoyable too.

    Matsushima Ichi

    Ichinobo and Taikanso are very good Ryokans, but considering cost performance, Kofutei is the clear winner. The meals are served individually, and the view near the island is breathtaking. I decided to book again immediately.

    The Second-to-Last Trip to Cherish with Your Parents

    Last year, after losing my father to illness and finally regaining a sense of normalcy after a long period of caregiving, I planned a trip for just my mother and me while she is still healthy and able to walk on her own. At my mother's strong request, we decided on Miyagi Prefecture as the destination because she wanted to visit Sendai, the hometown of her parents—my grandparents. She expressed interest in visiting Matsushima, so I wanted her to enjoy delicious food during our trip. While searching online, I found "Matsushima Onsen Komatsukan Kofutei." The breathtaking view of Matsushima from the accommodation's rooms shown on their website captivated me. The meals looked delicious as well, and reviews mentioned how tasty they were. Excitedly, I made the reservation. When we arrived at the accommodation and opened the door to our room, we were greeted by an even more stunning view than what we had seen online—a magnificent sunset over Matsushima spread across the entire window wall—and it left us speechless. Our room was on the second floor with dining areas and onsens located on the first floor. For my mother who has difficulty walking long distances in large accommodations or walking with slippers over carpeted floors, this close proximity was very convenient for her. We opted for a private open-air bath where just the two of us could relax in an onsen together—it truly melted away all our fatigue! However, since washing up had to be done in a narrow shower booth beforehand instead of having spacious seating options available nearby for comfort while washing oneself leisurely—it would have been better if such facilities existed. The meals were exceptional from start to finish; every dish prepared by both chefs & patissiers reflected genuine care using fresh ingredients that made each item incredibly flavorful! Dessert was served at another location which initially felt inconvenient due partly due drinking alcohol earlier—but enjoying dessert alongside coffee overlooking ocean views turned out refreshing allowing meaningful conversations between myself & mom too! Breakfast matched dinner’s excellence leaving no leftovers behind despite feeling full enough skipping lunch afterward entirely—the thoughtfulness put into breakfast impressed Mom especially when tasting “Matsumae-zuke” reminiscent childhood memories helping prepare similar dishes called “Kirigomi” involving cutting squid/kelp scissors under guidance grandmother evoking tears nostalgia momentarily overwhelmed emotions shared together deeply moving experience overall cherished forevermore… Although staff numbers seemed limited compared larger establishments elsewhere—they genuinely conveyed heartfelt hospitality ensuring guests’ satisfaction throughout stay making everything worthwhile indeed! While Mom mentioned this might be last travel opportunity ever again—I sincerely hope bringing back someday future possible expressing gratitude wholeheartedly saying thank-you once again looking forward returning soon someday surely!

    It feels worth the price.

    Dinner was a course where you could choose from 4 main dishes, and the portions were enough to fill even an adult man. The food was delicious, but finishing it all was quite challenging. The restaurant chairs were hard, and there was a large insect in the Room, which was a downside—though insects are unavoidable sometimes. The view from the Room was quite nice. The lady at the shop treated us kindly—thank you very much!

    Family Trip

    We stayed as a family of four. From the lobby lounge, the room, and the large public bath, we could enjoy breathtaking views of Matsushima—a truly wonderful location for accommodation. Since we were traveling with elderly parents, it was great to have a seated dining experience instead of a buffet. The meals offered a delicious variety from seafood to meat dishes. For dessert after dinner, moving to the lounge for a change in atmosphere was also enjoyable. Although the accommodation building seemed old, it was impeccably clean and comfortable to stay in. Above all, the hospitality, service, and thoughtfulness of the staff were exceptional and made our stay very pleasant. It turned out to be a wonderful holiday!

    It was the perfect accommodation with breathtaking views and heartfelt hospitality.

    I have stayed at various Onsen accommodations before, but it has been a long time since I experienced such exceptional "hospitality" from all the staff, and I was truly moved. Even small gestures, like staff ensuring to see us off with a polite greeting until the elevator doors closed, showcased thoughtful attention to detail that is rare these days. It made for a very heartwarming stay. The Onsen overlooking the breathtaking view of Matsushima was absolutely incredible, and enjoying the footbath on the terrace at night added an extra touch of luxury to our experience. This is an outstanding accommodation with meticulous attention to detail, and it’s an Onsen accommodation I would love to visit again.

    I will use it again!

    As mentioned in other reviews, this accommodation was flawless in every aspect, including the view, service, and meals. What impressed me the most was the hospitality—not only from the front desk and restaurant staff but also from the kitchen staff, whose attention to detail was remarkable. Even during busy times, their consistent care for every guest reflected the values upheld by the proprietress. As someone who loves traveling and has stayed at many accommodations, this is one of the rare places that made me not want to leave. I will plan another trip to Sendai just to stay here again! Thank you for providing us with a wonderful weekend experience.

    I found this accommo...

    I found this accommodation on IKYU.com and made a reservation without much research, but it turned out to be the one featured in JR's Sayuri Yoshinaga poster! Upon arrival, I was welcomed with a drink and enjoyed soaking my feet in a footbath while relaxing on a terrace overlooking Matsushima. I opted for no meals, but there’s no problem as Gyutan Rikyu is nearby. When I slightly opened the window, I could hear the sound of waves and seagulls, which helped me relax deeply. After traveling for a week, this was the accommodation where I had the best sleep. Matsushima is truly a wonderful place. Next time, I'd love to take a sightseeing boat ride!

    Satisfied.

    Both the guest room and Onsen offer ocean views, allowing you to fully enjoy the scenery. The facility was very clean. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, but the portions are slightly large, so it's best to come with a good appetite. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying experience.

    Comfortable Accommodation

    For our first visit to Matsushima, we chose this accommodation for its proximity to the coastline and the expected views. Despite its age, the facility is well-maintained with attention to detail. The uncluttered lobby and interior, free from unnecessary signage, reflect the accommodation's thoughtful approach. The staff impressed us with their natural hospitality and genuine care, making every interaction feel warm and considerate. Dinner was a Japanese full-course meal featuring a tuna tasting experience in the dining area. While it met expectations overall, it wasn't particularly outstanding. Dessert was served in the lounge afterward—a unique idea that allowed us to end our meal on a relaxed note with satisfaction. However, one disappointment was the timing of dinner service. Perhaps due to typical Onsen Ryokan practices, dishes were brought out quickly while we were still eating previous courses. By the time we requested plates be cleared after finishing one dish, subsequent dishes had already cooled down on our table's edge. Given that it wasn’t overly busy that evening and there seemed to be ample staff available, serving warm dishes at an appropriate pace would have enhanced the experience. That said, with stunning views from our room, excellent hospitality from all staff members, and well-managed facilities throughout our stay—it was an enjoyable accommodation overall!

    The view of Matsushima from the private open-air bath in the Room is breathtaking.

    The location is excellent, and the view is simply stunning. The Room has been recently renovated and is very clean. Additionally, the service in the lounge was exceptional. If I had to point out a drawback, it would be that one of the public baths lacked an open-air bath and felt slightly cramped.

    Both the meals and service are exceptional.

    Even during the busiest times of Golden Week, the staff's attentiveness was excellent, and there was no waiting at all. The free drink lounge and footbath facilities were great, and we had a lot of fun deciding what to choose for the charcoal-grilled dinner with our family—it was both enjoyable and delicious. The view from the room and lounge was so amazing that I thought there was no need to go to the large public bath for a morning soak (laughs). Even though there was an error on my part in the Reservation, it was kindly corrected via email beforehand, which I greatly appreciated. It would be nice if there were lint rollers or hand cleaners in the dressing area of the large public bath so guests could clean up hair themselves. Other than that, everything was perfect!

    The view of the sea from the Room is excellent.

    The view of the sea from the room and the bath is spectacular. The Onsen was very relaxing. The staff were kind and attentive, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable stay. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    The view from the Room is spectacular.

    I finally had the chance to visit the long-awaited Kofutei Accommodation. We checked in early and enjoyed walking around Matsushima's Zuiganji Temple and other famous spots, which was wonderful. The room we stayed in was exactly the one we had chosen, allowing us to enjoy a semi-open-air bath and breathtaking views of Matsushima. The matcha tea and sweets at the lounge were delicious, as were the desserts. Since it was the first day of a holiday weekend, there were many other guests, so there were some waiting times for meal guidance. However, we still enjoyed leisurely dining on delicious fish and had a great time overall. I look forward to visiting again during another season to enjoy more fresh seafood. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality!

    Great Location, Thoughtfully Crafted Cuisine and Desserts

    A prime location on an elevated area directly facing Matsushima Bay without any roads in between. The view from the room is said to surpass even that from sightseeing boats. The creative dinner dishes and desserts crafted by the patissier are exceptional. However, the seaweed shabu-shabu served at breakfast had a strong ocean aroma, which all three of us found overwhelming and couldn't eat much of it. While it may have been tested beforehand, this was a slight drawback and led to a minor deduction in our rating. The renowned Onsen features high pH levels and an ideal water temperature for relaxation.

    One of Japan's Three Scenic Views, Matsushima, is right in front of you. Enjoy the stunning view from your room, the large public bath, and the lounge. The lounge service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the hospitality was outstanding. The massage chair in the room was very useful. It’s a pity that the faucet at the sink in the room felt old. However, it was an incredibly satisfying accommodation! Thank you very much!

    The perfect accommodation for couples.

    If my wife were alive, I think this would be an accommodation we’d want to visit together. Despite being in Matsushima, the view from the room was of a concrete wall, and there was no open-air bath in the bathing area. However, the service provided by staff was excellent, and breakfast was delicious. The head chef seemed to have trained in Kyoto or Kanazawa with dishes featuring light seasoning and rich dashi flavors. When I asked a female staff member out of curiosity, she mentioned she had never been outside Miyagi Prefecture. Still, this is meant as the highest compliment for a Japanese cuisine chef—after all, even Iron Chef Rokusaburo Michiba trained in Kyoto. I thought it would be more convenient if they used Matsushima's tourist information center as a shuttle service pick-up point for better sightseeing access—it felt like they might have accommodated such a request if asked. This time around, due to typhoon-level strong winds causing JR trains to stop running, just getting there took all my energy and left me feeling mentally drained.

    Meals with Great Satisfaction

    We stayed as a family of three, my husband, daughter, and I. Not only the room, but also the view of Matsushima Bay from the lounge and the Onsen was extremely beautiful. For dinner, we could choose four main charcoal-grilled dishes ourselves. There were seafood options and Sendai beef, allowing for a very luxurious choice. I chose king crab, oysters, abalone, and spiny lobster. All were very delicious. In addition, there was a platter of fresh sashimi and other dishes, making for a very satisfying meal. Dessert was enjoyed in the lounge. We had a fun time sipping cocktails. The next morning, we waited for the sunrise while drinking coffee in the lounge, and when the time came, we soaked in the outdoor foot bath and watched the sun rise slowly. Breakfast also offered a variety of accompaniments for rice, which was satisfying. We chose a room with a massage chair. It was nice to be able to enjoy a massage at our preferred timing. When the futon is laid out, it is recommended for use by two people rather than three.

    We enjoyed the corne...

    We enjoyed the corner room with a great view and a pleasant indoor open-air bath. The dining area for meals (Japanese cuisine) felt a bit like a cafeteria, which seemed a bit unfortunate. It was disappointing that there was no complimentary coffee available at checkout, considering the quality of the property. The reception, guidance, and meal service provided by the staff were excellent.

    Full Service, Relaxing Scenic Stays

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. Before our stay, I called to inform you of dietary restrictions, and you provided service exactly as we hoped. When I mentioned in passing that we were visiting for my mother's 80th birthday celebration, the woman who answered the phone must have taken note, as a surprise chocolate plate with "Congratulations on your 80th birthday" and a candle accompanied the dessert. It was touching. The welcome drink was yubeshi with matcha, and the tea ceremony was of professional quality and very delicious. Furthermore, the welcome drink was almost unlimited until dinner, and from around 5 a.m., coffee, latte, cocoa, and more were available from a machine. As someone who finds it difficult to eat regular meals, I was able to take this latte to my room and enjoy a leisurely breakfast. The onsen was also excellent, and I experienced a moving dawn while watching the sunrise over Matsushima Bay. The meal was so luxurious that I wondered, "This meal at this price?" The futon in the room was a thick down comforter and very comfortable, and there were two toilets, making it a wonderful facility. I sincerely thank you.

    Wonderful

    The service during meals was excellent, and the timing of the next dish was perfect. There was also thoughtful consideration in the bath, with replacement towels provided. Every staff member we spoke to responded pleasantly.

    The meals were excellent. The Room had an inconvenient closet and steps in odd places, which was very unsatisfactory. The bath was also small for the size of the Hotel.

    Excellent view

    The view from the room and the view from the large public bath were both wonderful. The meals were also delicious. Additionally, it was very convenient as Matsushima sightseeing was just a short walk from the property. The parking lot was also nearby, which was great.
