Accommodation with the Best Hospitality
Visited last year and returning this year for a 2-night stay. This adult-only accommodation offers private dining with delicious meals, allowing us to refresh as a family without encountering many other guests. Above all, the hospitality from every staff member is exceptional. We look forward to visiting again next year.

Onsen Trip
This year's Obon holiday became a memorable experience. The location was calm and peaceful, without the hustle and bustle of shopping streets, allowing us to relax fully. We were especially satisfied with the Onsen and meals. The Room had a slight scent typical of older buildings, and there were many spider webs in the private open-air bath (which gave a very natural feel). Additionally, it was a bit disappointing that the rice served during meals was cold. However, everything else made for a very comfortable stay. My partner also mentioned wanting to visit again, and I personally would love to return if given another opportunity.

Had a relaxing stay.
The accommodation was wonderful with a charming atmosphere, yet not overly formal, making it very comfortable to stay. In the evening and morning, the sound of the nearby temple bell resonated, giving us the feeling of staying at a nostalgic countryside home rather than just an accommodation. The staff provided warm and friendly hospitality, which made our stay even more pleasant. The bedroom was particularly quiet and relaxing, allowing both my spouse and me to sleep soundly (a rare occurrence during trips). Both dinner and breakfast were perfectly portioned for a middle-aged couple like us, absolutely delicious, and left us very satisfied. The warm soba noodles at breakfast and freshly picked cucumbers from the chef's garden were especially delightful! Located in a peaceful area, we would love to visit again someday.

Chef's Garden Cucumbers
The meals were absolutely delicious. Dinner was Japanese cuisine, and every dish was so tasty that I ended up finishing everything despite being full. The rice served at the end was exceptionally flavorful, prompting me to ask the staff about its brand. It turned out to be a rare variety called "Hotaru," specially cultivated in the nearby Shiota area. For breakfast, I chose Western-style, which was just as delightful as the previous night's Japanese meal! The main omelet was perfect, and every side dish and all three types of bread were incredibly delicious. Additionally, the chef even served freshly picked cucumbers from their garden—unbelievably fresh and exquisite! Every bite of every meal was a joy to savor. Thank you so much!

This is my third visit, and I am very pleased with my stay. The food was delicious, and the 12:00 PM checkout allowed me to relax. I look forward to visiting again.

The room was spaciou...
The room was spacious and comfortable for our family of four. Despite visiting during a hot season with temperatures reaching 40°C, the outdoor bath in the early morning was pleasantly cool, accompanied by the soothing sounds of birdsong and bamboo rustling. The Onsen had a silky texture that left our skin feeling smooth. The meals were abundant and featured local Shinshu ingredients and flavors, all delicious. The dinner was excellent, and we were equally satisfied with the Japanese-style breakfast, which included seasonal vegetables and homemade tofu. The staff's hospitality was outstanding, making this Ryokan truly exceptional.

Enjoyed indulging in Onsen during the peak of summer.
Enjoyed a summer full of Onsen indulgence. Upgraded the meal for a special treat. Though I was worried about finishing it all, I managed to enjoy every bite. I pre-ordered grilled char bone sake, and paired with its rich aroma, the meal was delightful. The main dish was Hoba-grilled Wagyu beef, but there were many other creative and delicious dishes served as well, all of which I finished with satisfaction. While not extravagant ingredients, seasonal flavors like corn tempura and daikon leaf rice were wonderful highlights. The Onsen water had a soothing sulfur scent and flowed continuously; I soaked multiple times from check-in to check-out, washing away all my worldly fatigue completely. This has become one of the accommodations I'd love to visit again. Looking forward to staying here once more!

A good Ryokan.
I visit 2-3 times a year. There are no issues with the service or cleanliness, but the dinner menu, except for the appetizers, is almost the same throughout the year. The same goes for breakfast. Since there seem to be many repeat guests, perhaps some improvements could be considered?

A cozy escape from reality
Check-in and be guided to the "Shikitei - Kazuki no Ma" room. The atmosphere of the room, combining the soft texture of newly renovated wood with a sense of history, brings a sense of calm. Heading straight to the bath, we find that the private bath "Joraku no Yu" is available. Relaxing together in its warm waters, both body and mind feel liberated. Next, we visit "Iwa no Yu." With it being completely private as well, we fully enjoy both the open-air hinoki bath and indoor rock bath. It feels as though the essence of Onsen is absorbed into our bodies through our skin. Cooling down from the heat back in our room, a resonating bell sound echoes—“Gong.” It feels like something out of an old tale—a surreal experience that makes us feel as if we're drifting in another dimension. However, hunger calls us to dinner. Sipping on local sake “Yukimura Tamashii,” we savor each dish crafted with care by the chef. The Shinshu Wagyu beef grilled on magnolia leaves is exceptional! Indulging in many local delicacies unique to this area fills not just our stomachs but also our hearts with satisfaction—pure bliss! Thanks to this fulfilling meal, we sleep deeply. In the morning, after waking up refreshed, we visit Kitamuki Kannon Temple for prayer. Feeling solemn yet peaceful while strolling through its grounds under morning sunlight sharpens our spirits—“Ahh… so this was where that bell rang.” Energized by this serene start to the day: “Alright!” Off to breakfast! Enjoying apple juice, handmade tofu, and delicious rice gets us ready for an active day ahead. After spending some leisurely time post-breakfast comes check-out time. A staff member kindly takes a photo at the entrance before sending us off with smiles all around—a moment that makes me think: “I must return here again someday for more healing!”

Unfortunately.
The Room, meals, and service were all wonderful, providing a luxurious experience. However, after having breakfast in a private dining room, I happened to look up at the ceiling and noticed a large cobweb covered in dust right where the air conditioning wind was blowing. It was swaying with the airflow. Thinking about having dined directly under this dusty cobweb both last night and this morning gave me chills. I informed one of the staff on the lower floor about it, but during checkout, there was no mention of this issue. This made me disappointed as it seemed like the information had not been shared properly.

A comfortable and attentive accommodation
I have been a repeat guest for over 10 years. Due to COVID-19, I hadn't visited for a while, but when I recently went with my husband and son, I was delighted to find that the service and meals were just as excellent as before. The accommodation had also been renovated, making it even more comfortable. This time, I stayed with my mother and sisters. In the past, I had invited both my father and mother here. After my father's passing, we took this trip to comfort my mother and brought along his photo. During our meal, one of the staff noticed the photo on our table and kindly offered to prepare a symbolic meal setting for him. This thoughtful gesture deeply moved us—I'm sure my father would have been pleased as well. Thank you so much. The meals were not only delicious but also creatively incorporated seasonal events, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Bessho Onsen has truly wonderful water quality. Although I had an injured foot during this visit, by the time we left, the pain was completely gone—it felt fully healed. I look forward to visiting again!

Clean and tidy rooms
The room was spacious and clean. It was a room with an open-air bath, but I wished there had been facilities to wash the body even without shampooing. The meals had a sufficient variety, but the portions were small and not enough even for an elderly couple.

Room Lighting
The cuisine, ambiance, and bath were very satisfying at this accommodation. However, the lighting in the living room was set to be dim, which created a nice atmosphere but made it difficult to read newspapers delivered to the room. It would have been better if the brightness could be adjusted.

I came across a very nice accommodation.
It was my first trip with my aunts, but all my worries were completely unnecessary. From the warm welcome upon arrival to the attentive care until departure, I truly appreciated the exceptional hospitality. The meals were delicious, and the Onsen we enjoyed multiple times made it a trip I can wholeheartedly recommend to others. I will visit again next time with my family. Thank you very much!

The staff's pleasant hospitality always makes my stay enjoyable. Thank you for providing the desk and chair. However, during this stay, I wonder if the head chef was absent. I always look forward to dishes that reflect the season and highlight the natural flavors of ingredients, but this time there were many miso-based dishes which felt a bit out of place given the hot weather, and some dishes tasted overly salty. The balance of miso and sugar left me feeling slightly unwell, which was a bit disappointing. Additionally, the lighting in both the Room and its private bath was quite dim; it would be helpful if it could be made brighter. Thank you again for your cheerful and attentive service that allows me to relax comfortably every time I visit!

Hospitality Beyond Expectations
Due to certain circumstances, I made a same-day accommodation reservation, and when I explained the situation over the phone, they responded with great care and understanding. At that point, it was already a perfect 100 points. The exceptional hospitality of all the staff, the incredibly delicious meals, the rustic onsen bath with a slight sulfur scent, and the clean Japanese-style room with the smell of fresh tatami—all exceeded my expectations and made for a wonderful stay. Recently, accommodation costs have been rising everywhere, and it's not uncommon to find places that don't match their price. However, this accommodation truly offers more than its value. Thank you very much!

A tranquil and peaceful accommodation.
The clean and modern interior, along with the charming Room, provided a comfortable stay. The private open-air bath attached to the Room was especially delightful, surrounded by lush greenery and the chirping of birds. Dining in a private room while enjoying views of Kitamuki Kannon was both delicious and satisfying, featuring many local ingredients. The sound of Kitamuki Kannon's bell resonating during the evening and early morning could be heard from the Room, creating a serene atmosphere. The low bed offered excellent comfort for restful sleep. Strolling through the Onsen town in the morning and evening added to the enjoyment, allowing for a relaxing and fulfilling experience. After check-out, being driven to Anrakuji Temple was incredibly helpful. This trip to Bessho Onsen became an unforgettable memory!

The hospitality, service, and attentiveness of the ryokan staff were exceptional and made for a very pleasant stay. The room was spacious, the meals were served in a private dining area and were absolutely delicious, and we enjoyed the complimentary private bath in a serene setting that allowed us to relax fully. When we mentioned it was a birthday celebration, they kindly took a photo for us and placed it in a frame as a keepsake, creating wonderful memories. We are so glad we chose this accommodation! Thank you very much.

Luxury Upgrade
Last time was during the Zenkoji Temple Gokaicho event. It was such a wonderful Ryokan that I decided to stay again. The renovated guest rooms and front desk made for an even more relaxing and pleasant experience. Of course, the staff's attentiveness and seasonal cuisine were excellent as well. I'll definitely visit again!

Stayed at the accommodation to celebrate my mother-in-law's 88th birthday.
We visited Zenkoji Temple to celebrate my mother-in-law's 88th birthday and searched for a good accommodation. We found this place with excellent reviews and made a reservation. The accommodation rating is perfect. During our stay, the staff's hospitality was exceptional, making us feel very comfortable and well cared for. The room was spacious, impeccably clean, and the open-air onsen had wonderful water. Both dinner and breakfast were plentiful, served by different attendants who provided excellent explanations of the dishes with perfect timing—no waiting at all. The private dining room was quiet, appropriately sized, equipped with a private restroom, which my mother-in-law appreciated greatly. She was delighted with this wonderful accommodation located next to Kitamuki Kannon Temple—a very attractive location. For her 88th birthday celebration, the accommodation took a commemorative photo for us and presented it in an elegant photo frame as a gift. I have recently started collecting "accommodation stamps" as souvenirs instead of traditional temple stamps (goshuin). They kindly stamped one on their table sheet for me as a keepsake; however, I lost it on my way home. When I called about it later, they graciously sent me another one. I may sound like I'm writing my personal review here but considering what we paid for our stay—the facility quality, service level, meal content—all aspects exceeded expectations with satisfying hospitality. Bessho Onsen also offers great hot spring water quality. The only concern we had was regarding accessibility: when making the reservation and during follow-up calls afterward we informed them that my mother-in-law has knee issues. We were told that staying in their detached building would require crossing a road along with some walking within the premises involving about seven steps up or down; however upon arrival there turned out to be an additional seven steps beyond what had been explained earlier which caused some inconvenience specifically due to her condition—not an issue if it were just us!

It was a pleasant accommodation.
I stayed at Keigetsu and enjoyed a very spacious room. The indoor bath, the open-air bath in the room, and the large Onsen were all delightful. The meals served in the room were beautifully presented on elegant dishes, and each dish was incredibly delicious. The hospitality of the accommodation staff and even a short stroll to nearby Kitamuki Kannon Temple made everything wonderful. The only thing I thought could be improved was having hand soap available at the handwashing area next to the restroom. While there were paper towels provided, there was no soap, so I had to go to the sink near the bath to wash my hands. Since it’s not too far from highways or main roads, I imagine it would have a different charm during snowy seasons as well. It’s an accommodation I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much!

Hmm
The building seems old, and noises like doors closing or footsteps from the neighboring room echoed, making it noisy and hard to relax. The meals, considering the price range, were understandable but lacked satisfaction as they were traditional Ryokan-style dishes. I stay at various accommodations for nearly two months a year, but this time I feel I made a rare mistake in choosing this accommodation.

Early Summer in Bessho Onsen
This was our second visit to Bessho Onsen, and this time we stayed at Kashiwaya Honten. The accommodation kindly provided a car ride to Jorakuji Temple, allowing us to visit Jorakuji, Anrakuji, and Kitamuki Kannon. The room we stayed in was compact but spacious enough for two people. However, there was no direct connection between the semi-open-air bath and the shower booth, so we had to pass through the bedroom after taking a shower to enter the open-air bath. The shower booth seemed like an afterthought addition. The floorboards of the open-air bath were partially rotting, and the bottom of the bathtub felt slimy and unpleasant.

Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you for another comfortable stay. I truly appreciated the staff's thoughtfulness, the delicious meals, and the relaxing and pleasant time I spent here. The meals were once again delightful, something I always look forward to. This time, I stayed in a room with an open-air bath. However, it would be more convenient if the open-air bath and shower were closer together. Additionally, I felt that the water pressure or temperature of the shower could be improved. The bed was very comfortable, allowing me to sleep soundly. However, I found that the chairs and table were quite low; compared to a previous room where they were higher, it was more accommodating for someone like me who experiences leg pain. Thank you as always for your warm welcome and farewell!

I had a relaxing and enjoyable time.
This was my second stay. The Ryokan was clean and well-maintained, and despite being an older building, I enjoyed a luxurious time savoring delicious meals in a quiet atmosphere. Thank you very much. As I mentioned in the Ryokan's survey, I would prefer if the amenities were not shared (though it's not a big issue as I can bring my own). Also, because it was so quiet, the footsteps in the hallway during meal service were slightly noticeable.

It was quiet and relaxing.
I have visited Bessho Onsen several times, but this was my first time staying at Kashiwaya Honten. The facility has a spacious design, and the drink corner service was excellent. The detached room had a calm atmosphere, and the sound of the Kannon bell in the evening and morning added a touch of charm, providing relaxation for both body and mind. The meals were delicious, and having them in a private room made it even more enjoyable. Thank you also for the drink and photo included with the anniversary plan dinner. The shuttle service to the station was very helpful as well. If I may make one request, it would be great to have a portable makeup mirror available in the room's wash area. I would love to visit again!

Enjoy a Fun Onsen Trip
This was our first stay at Kashiwaya in Bessho Onsen, a town with a charming onsen atmosphere. The accommodation, though old, is well-maintained and clean. Walking barefoot on the tatami floors inside the facility immediately made us feel relaxed. Unlike the usual one-size-fits-all samue, we could choose perfectly fitting sizes here, and yukata were also provided, enhancing our comfort. The baths were delightful: the main building features a large tub-style open-air bath that alternates between men and women. The annex has separate male and female baths with indoor facilities only but allows alternating access based on time schedules. The water temperature was just right, leaving us warm and refreshed. The private bath in the main building felt luxurious with both an indoor bath and an open-air rock bath of generous size. Although we usually skip private baths when there’s one in our room, this time we were glad to have experienced it. While some fixtures like faucets or tubs showed their age, they exuded nostalgia alongside the sulfuric hot spring water illuminated by sunlight through windows—a truly atmospheric experience. Used towel baskets were always empty thanks to attentive management of the changing area, providing peace of mind. Post-bath relaxation in the lobby was enhanced by light-bodied coffee or various teas perfectly suited for after bathing; plenty of water was available along with snacks for cooling down comfortably. Returning to our room revealed thoughtful touches like a chair with legs prepared for my husband who has knee pain—such care from all staff members left us deeply grateful throughout our stay. Meals were exceptional! The appetizer served in Hina doll-themed dishes stood out as particularly beautiful among many carefully crafted local delicacies presented at our private dining space—leaving us fully satisfied by dinner's end! Breakfast featured tofu dipped into onsen water accompanied by numerous rice side dishes—a delightful way to savor Japanese cuisine's charm and flavors thoroughly. After indulging ourselves again hopping between baths within both rooms & facilities post-meal indulgence—we strolled nearby Kannon Temple dressed casually in samue jackets before offering prayers there—a perfect way to embrace everything wonderful about an onsen trip! Reluctantly departing yet filled with joy over such memorable experiences—the kind staff even drove us back toward station transport while thoughts lingered about returning during cherry blossom season or autumn matsutake mushroom harvests someday soon!
