A Stay Where You Can See Your Child Grow

Thanks to booking through IKYU, we received several perks, which we truly appreciated. The pool is all-weather, so we could play safely without worrying about sunburn or rain. While the Facility shows some age, it is a wonderful piece of architecture and has been carefully maintained, allowing us to stay comfortably. Through the activities, we were able to see our children full of energy—an ideal setting for a family trip.

We stayed here for our last trip of the summer vacation.

The pool is fun, and the on-site buffet is excellent. The bath in the Room was a bit disappointing—I think it’s meant to be used together with the large public bath. I knew it wasn’t an Onsen, but the bath still fell a little short. That said, the Room is clean and spacious, and overall I think it’s a Facility you can really enjoy.

The staff were very kind and attentive, which was great. There were plenty of activities to enjoy. The food was also delicious. However, the changing room at “Mokumoku-yu” was small, and it was disappointing that it is not an Onsen.

The pool was so much fun that the kids said they want to come back again next year!

    Relax in your Room

It has been more than a decade since our first visit. The children who were little back then have grown up, and this time it was a family trip with adults only. There are, as expected, many activities geared toward small children, so we can’t play the way we used to. Still, I think it’s a place where you can be satisfied just spending time relaxing in the Room. The Room is spacious and clean, and it’s fun to step outside and wander around Piman Street. What I like most is being able to unwind and enjoy a holiday doing nothing at all. Our college-aged son got bored and went on the “Aerial Walk,” but it sounds like he actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Compared with before, more shops on Piman Street stay open later now, so we didn’t end up struggling to find lunch—this was a positive change. What was disappointing was dinner at Waiwai Grill; the quality seems to drop every time we visit. There used to be about five main dishes to choose from, but now it’s down to just two options: beef or sea bream. I don’t particularly like either one, so I sincerely wish they would bring back the previous selection. The buffet overall also felt somewhat careless in quality. It made me sad, though I assume cost-cutting is unavoidable. Breakfast was plentiful, and I was satisfied with that. I was also surprised that all the sofas had disappeared from the front desk area—it felt empty and bare. Instead there were lots of lockers; are those for international guests? Even though this is a Hotel front desk area, not having anywhere to sit isn’t ideal. In various places—such as the quality of amenities, having to purchase breakfast vouchers in advance, and switching all Hotel information over to smartphone-only access—I felt cost-cutting and labor reduction rather than improved convenience. Considering that Accommodation rates have gone up compared with before as well, it left me feeling somewhat conflicted… On the plus side, I liked that the loungewear is now a matching pajama set (top and bottom). The best thing about the baths is being able to go without bringing towels with you. That said, speaking generally, the large public bath feels more like a shallow pool than something atmospheric or traditional. The open-air bath usedto be mixed-gender with bathing wear required, but now switches between men’sand women’s hours instead . Many ofthe staff members were young, and there were moments whenI felt they could use more training, but everyonewas pleasantand kind . If you’re not travelingwith small children, the numberof thingsyou can do gradually decreases, and comparedwith before, the value for money has clearly gone down.Nevertheless,it remainsa place whereI can truly relax, andI wouldliketo visit again .

The pool is nice, but everything else is disappointing.

This was my fourth stay. The wave pool was enjoyable, but aside from that—including the front desk service—the Room had broken items, and overall it didn’t feel worth the cost.

Many disappointing aspects for the price. However, the activities and meals were excellent!

Perhaps because we stayed during the summer holidays, we felt that for the price, the guest room was not very well maintained (stains on the carpet, signs of aging throughout, etc.), which concerned us. The air conditioning in the loft area was also not very effective, so we contacted the front desk. They checked it right away and provided a circulator fan, but honestly, at this price point we would have liked everything to be in better condition overall. However, the activities for guests and how delicious the meals were were outstanding. Our child was very happy, but we don’t think we would stay again during the summer holidays.

    We had a great time.

We had a wonderful time as a family. All of the staff provided excellent service, and we were very pleased. The meals were delicious, and we enjoyed plenty of vegetables. We were especially happy that the pool was clean. It can be hard to find a truly clean pool, but this one was well maintained, so we could relax and let our child play safely. There also seemed to be many fun activities available, and we would like to try them next time. Also, this is not the Hotel staff’s fault at all, but we did see some guests bringing their children into the bath without washing them first, or returning shared serving tongs to use after dropping them on the floor. Seeing that was disappointing at times, so I rated overall satisfaction as 4 out of 5. Because we made our Reservation through IKYU, we received many perks such as welcome sweets and complimentary drinks for our family, which made us feel like we got a great deal.

    Perfect for three-generation trips

We stayed here to celebrate my mother-in-law’s 60th birthday. Both my mother-in-law and the kids said they had fun the entire time. The pool was spacious and kid-friendly, and we chose the buffet for dinner; you can select a main dish, which made my mother-in-law very happy. Because we made our Reservation through IKYU, there were also delicious drinks and cheesecake waiting in our Room—everything was perfect from start to finish! I’m glad we were able to have such a wonderful celebration!

    We had a wonderful stay.

We stayed here for a family trip with our 5-year-old. As mentioned in the Reviews, the rooms do feel a bit dated, but even so, the meals at Waiwai Grill and Otto Sette and the activities were excellent, making it a very satisfying experience. We also recommend using the childcare service. Adults can relax, and our child seemed to have more fun than having to sit through an adult meal.

    Everything is average.

I stayed for two nights this time. When I arrived, the area felt peaceful and the Hotel looked like it had a nice atmosphere, so I had high expectations, but in the end everything was just average. I wouldn’t stay again.

Impressed by the wide variety of activities available

Our family of four stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. The kids never got bored and seemed very happy with the pool, playground, and bookstore. They said they’d like to try the activities we didn’t get to do next time. We were very satisfied with our stay.

    Kids will love it.

This was our third stay. As our children grow, there are more activities they can enjoy, so we never get bored no matter how many times we visit. The kids are thrilled every time. The Room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We couldn’t make it to the open-air bath due to timing, but the indoor bath felt a bit dated in terms of Facility. Using the bath in the Room might be a good option. The provided hair dryer was ReFa—very impressive. We were completely satisfied with both hospitality and service, and would love to return again. Highly recommended for families who want to relax and take it easy with children!

The kids were thrilled with the wave pool and the kids’ area, and we spent every day at the pool for three days! There were plenty of activities, and we had a great time. The meals at Y Y Grill and on Piman Street were also delicious, making this a wonderful trip. Thank you!

Recommended for family trips with children

We stayed as a family of four with our 3-year-old and our baby (0) for the baby’s first pool experience. This was our second stay, and it was an outstanding visit that made us certain we want to come back again. ■ Dining For lunch, we went to Sobaro at Piman Street. Prices are on the higher side. Our child loved the kids’ set, so we had lunch there on both Day 1 and Day 2. The tempura was excellent. For dinner and breakfast, we chose Waiwai Grill. Everything was delicious and paired perfectly with wine. In the morning, we were impressed by the wide variety of bread. Having individually packaged wet wipes on the table was a small but very helpful touch. After dinner, we enjoyed complimentary wine and grape juice at Awa Lounge, which rounded out the day perfectly. ■ Pool Our child was completely absorbed in playing in the kids’ zone—especially enjoying the bumpy slide. For our baby’s pool debut, splashing at the edge of the main pool and floating with a swim ring seemed like great fun as well. The kids’ zone is adorable, and the main pool has a lovely atmosphere, so we were able to take lots of wonderful photos. Neither the changing rooms nor the pool felt crowded, making everything very comfortable. Swimsuits and swim rings can be rented, so you can go empty-handed. ■ Room The wine-red color scheme is charming. We were lucky enough to receive an upgrade and enjoyed a spacious Room. We had reserved a children’s amenities set in advance, so blocks were prepared in the Room and kept our child happily occupied for a long time. The beds are low enough that even if a child rolls off, it feels safe. The bathtub is large, which made bathing our baby easy. ■ Other notes Some shops on Piman Street appear to accept cash only or room charge only, so it’s best to bring some cash with you. Reservations are required for dinner, activities, and amenities/items rentals/preparation services (as applicable). With an IKYU Reservation there were various perks such as complimentary minibar items in the Room, a cheesecake souvenir left in the Room, and welcome drinks at the café (among others).

There are a lot of children, no matter what.

Many guests stay with children, which suggests this resort is family-friendly and suitable even for very young kids. However, while families may be understanding of one another, it can feel quite uncomfortable for couples or adults traveling without children. Children running around the lobby, crying loudly, or shouting may be normal behavior, but for guests without children it can ruin a hard-earned vacation with constant noise. Given how many children there are, this seems to be that kind of Accommodation. We would appreciate it if the website and Reservation sites clearly noted this in advance. We might have expected it during summer vacation season, but in March we honestly let our guard down.

The whole family was very satisfied.

This was a Hotel I’d been wanting to visit someday for a long time. When we finally stayed, it was very family-friendly, and the food was excellent. Even though it was a cold season, we were able to enjoy the pool, so our children were thrilled to experience both winter skiing and swimming. This time we didn’t have enough time to try the Mokumoku Bath, so we’d like to do that next time. We had such a great time that we even made another Reservation for six months later. We’re looking forward to our next stay. Thank you!

    First time skiing

We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days for our child’s first ski experience. On the first day, we used the pool. We had forgotten our swimsuits, but it was a big help that we could easily rent them. The wave pool was similar to Tomamu, but only Yatsugatake had a kids’ play area. Our son enjoyed the water slide endlessly. At Tomamu, the hot bath facility is attached to the pool, which felt convenient, but here the entire Facility is compact and Mokumoku-yu (the Yatsugatake hot bath facility) was close by as well, so it wasn’t an issue at all. For breakfast and dinner on the first day, we ate at YY Grill’s buffet; both the quality and variety were excellent, and our whole family said we’d love to come again. At a nearby book café, my husband and children spent time reading while I enjoyed wine tasting next door. Being able to sample small pours of Mie Ikeno Chardonnay made it a truly blissful time. On day two, we signed up for Snow Kids lessons at the Hotel, then headed to Fujimi Kogen Ski Resort in the afternoon. We could rent everything—wears, skis/boards, and boots—which was very helpful for a first-time ski trip. The hospitality from all staff members was wonderful as well, and it became a truly great experience for us.

I wish there was an Onsen...

Last year, we stayed at Risonare Nasu, which my son loved. However, we decided to make a Reservation for Yatsugatake this time, thinking it might be better for a 4-year-old boy—and it turned out to be the right choice. The variety of activities, especially the pool, was fantastic and made the trip worthwhile. At the Kids Studio, although he seemed nervous at first, he listened carefully to the staff and seriously worked on making Christmas sweets. Watching him was an unforgettable moment for us as parents. Since I am particular about hair dryers, I usually bring my own. However, with ReFa dryers available in Il Mare Onsen facilities and in our Room as well, there was no need to bring one this time—very convenient. The large public bath could use some improvement regarding mold and slipperiness. Most importantly though—it’s just regular hot water instead of Onsen water. If it were an actual Onsen facility next time, we would love to visit again! Please consider this request if possible.

    You need to walk out...

You need to walk outside to reach the bath, so you have to dress properly, which is a bit inconvenient, and it's not an Onsen, which is a downside. Additionally, the complex structure of the Facility makes it easy to get lost, which is another minor drawback. However, everything else about this Facility was excellent. The Room's interior and provided amenities were thoughtful, and the staff were approachable and kind. The food was absolutely delicious! Even though I don't drink wine at all, I found the meals fulfilling and very satisfying. Both dinner and breakfast were at the buffet restaurant; everything I tried was tasty with a wide variety of options available. Despite having many guests around, it never felt crowded or stressful! The grilled dishes for dinner and local specialties for breakfast were particularly outstanding.

The meals were delicious, and the Room was clean and very nice. However, during bad weather, the outdoor bath can be inconvenient, and in colder seasons, I personally found it uncomfortable as I felt chilled before returning to the Room. This has been reflected in my evaluation.

    Halloween Event

I stayed on Sunday with my wife and our 2.5-year-old son. We had stayed here nearly 10 years ago around the same time and were very much looking forward to this visit. The entire accommodation feels like a small town, fully decorated for Halloween. There are various activities available, making it enjoyable for children of all ages (and of course, adults too). The room was a spacious twin with a terrace facing the main street, providing a very comfortable stay. We participated in a Halloween event with our child, which many other families also joined. Guests can dress up in costumes for free, creating a festive atmosphere. In fact, many parents seemed more enthusiastic than their kids—something that made us smile wryly. For dinner, we chose the buffet option where you select your main dish while enjoying an array of buffet items alongside it. I almost ate too much from the buffet to finish my main dish! The soft-serve ice cream was excellent as well as the wine. Breakfast was also served buffet-style with both Western and Japanese options available; I ended up eating too much again because there were so many delicious local dishes on offer. After breakfast, we joined an exploration activity designed for young children in the forest area within the premises—leaves, nuts, insects... Our son was completely fascinated by everything he saw. Although we couldn’t participate due to time constraints this trip’s concept encourages guests arriving early or staying until late checkout maximizing enjoyment throughout their stay without getting bored even during multiple night stays! Now onto some minor downsides: While it was nice that they pushed together our twin beds Hollywood-style upon request—the gap between them had some hair/dust left behind which could’ve been cleaned better beforehand. Also considering how busy things get during peak seasons like Halloween check-in/out luggage handling took longer than expected but understandable under circumstances. Lastly though public bathhouse facilities felt slightly underwhelming given its distance from rooms still acceptable overall experience-wise yet noticed non-guests seemingly taking advantage freely perhaps regulars nearby community members? Despite these small issues pricing isn’t cheap however worth every penny spent definitely planning return visits future occasions!

    For a family of 3

Positive Points Visiting on a weekday made the accommodation quite empty overall, allowing for a relaxing stay. The open-air bath in the forest was very pleasant, providing a soothing time surrounded by nature. At the forest attractions, there were staff members who kindly assisted children, making it reassuring for families. Concerns The quality of service did not match the price, giving an overall impression of low cost performance. Dogs were allowed in the morning buffet area, and there was a dog barking continuously indoors, which made it hard to relax. → While this might be convenient for guests with dogs, it created an uncomfortable environment for other guests. When consulting with staff about this issue, their response of "Does it bother you?" lacked consideration and was disappointing. ※ There were also very kind staff members present, which made this gap even more noticeable. The operating hours of each shop on Piman Street varied and were short. Additionally, there are few stores in the surrounding area; therefore, note that there is little to do at night.
