A Heritage to Preserve!

The reception, lounge, and library for check-in (for guests staying on floors other than the Espacio Floor) are located on the 6th floor. Guests can enjoy juice, coffee, tea, and Nagoya-style snacks 24 hours a day. This idea and system are so excellent that it would be great if accommodations across the whole country adopted it. Some floors and guest rooms in this accommodation feature designs and color schemes reminiscent of pre-1990s Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton interiors before they became large chains. While the immediate luxury may not match modern high-end hotels like Espacio Nagoya Castle, you can truly appreciate how much attention to detail was given to hotel room interiors in the 1990s through their meticulous craftsmanship. Even more impressive is the extensive use of ceramics on walls and floors in lobby areas and banquet halls. At first glance, it may appear understated; however, upon closer inspection, one cannot help but admire how much effort and expense went into creating such spaces—truly befitting a prestigious facility built with pride by Chubu's political and business leaders of that era. I am grateful to the current owner for preserving most of these original wall-and-floor designs without major renovations up until today. I sincerely hope they will continue to maintain them as is. Regarding dining: I enjoyed dinner at Le Chef’s buffet restaurant. Maintaining such quality at that price point with a standard buffet service style is remarkable! The next day at lunchtime, I purchased pastries from their adjacent bakery shop. They looked delicious but seemed like "short shelf-life" bread made without artificial additives—likely losing flavor quickly after purchase—but I bought them anyway out of curiosity. Although my busy schedule delayed me from eating them until late that night when they were still quite tasty! It made me think: "These must taste absolutely amazing when eaten fresh within their intended shelf life!" A friend gifted me matcha pound cake from this hotel as a souvenir item during my stay—a type often associated with mediocre "hotel-branded souvenirs." However...this one was exceptional! For my next visit to Meikan*, I look forward to dining at Salon Escoffier for its traditional French cuisine rooted in Meikan's legacy. (*Note: If referring specifically here by name/location.)
