Dhawa Yura Kyoto by Banyan Group

Pros:- It’s a reasonably priced Hotel, but as you’d expect from the Banyan Tree chain, the service felt comparable to a high-end Hotel. Even though I stayed only one night, the front desk staff remembered my name, and every staff member was quick and professional in their manner. After checkout, I asked if they could keep some food refrigerated with my luggage, and they kindly agreed.- A shower-only setup may be a matter of preference, but since it was midsummer it was perfectly comfortable. If anything, it made the Room feel more spacious.- The tatami raised seating area is also very relaxing. I would have preferred floor cushions (zabuton) rather than regular cushions, but that may be aimed at international guests.Cons: (All minor points—nothing decisive)- The nearest station is Sanjo Keihan, so I wouldn’t say access to all of Kyoto is ideal (though the exit is right there, so it’s a great location if you plan to explore nearby areas).- The in-room TV remote has buttons for Netflix and other services, but the TV isn’t connected to the internet so you can’t use them—disappointing.- This is common in Ryokan-style setups, but the ceramic washbasin has a rough texture; when washing your face it can feel slightly painful if your fingers brush against it.- I used the spa; since it seems to be set up in renovated standard guest Rooms and you step out into the guest Room corridor from reception first, it may feel a bit less “special” or immersive. The treatment itself was very good.

The location was very convenient, and getting around by train or bus was truly easy. The staff were all very pleasant, and the Room was comfortable and easy to use—excellent overall. The complimentary voucher usable at the bar was perfect for a pre-dinner drink, and I was able to enjoy everything, making it a very fulfilling trip. I would love to stay again.
