I felt the dignity of a long-established Hotel in Kyoto.

The Facility is very well maintained, and the customer service was worthy of a luxury Hotel. We enjoyed a wonderful Hotel stay, indulging in both the French cuisine at the main dining and the spa Facility. If you have time, it's nice to climb the hill behind and enjoy the view of Kyoto.

    Satisfied.

The spa and breakfast were particularly satisfying. The men's spa had a luxurious use of space, with a comfortable distance between the bathing area and the changing room, keeping the changing room dry and clean. Staff frequently cleaned the shower area and sauna, maintaining cleanliness at all times. I would visit again just for the spa. At breakfast, freshly made rice balls were served on-site, which was delicious and unique—enjoying fresh rice in this way was refreshing. The Room was also comfortable. Although the bathroom in the Room was clean and spacious, I didn't use it as I opted for the spa instead. Having a concierge at Kyoto Station to store suitcases while sightseeing was very convenient. If there’s one suggestion to make, it would be about the shop—it felt somewhat isolated with limited stock that seemed more catered to international visitors rather than domestic travelers like me; hence it wasn’t very appealing personally.

I felt that the lack of signage in the facility was a bit unhelpful.

Please display a large red arrow and the words "Step Present" at the step from the entrance of the large public bath to the locker in the changing room. Without my glasses in the bath, I couldn't see it clearly and thought it was flat, only to step down hard with my bare feet. Fortunately, I wasn't injured, but it was dangerous. Please write clear and large instructions on how to use the faucets, showers, and hairdryers near their respective locations. I couldn't find any instructions and tried to use them on my own, but they wouldn't work. I struggled, especially with the hairdryer, to the point of almost giving up. At such times, there were no staff around, and I felt awkward walking around in a state of undress looking for someone to ask, so I gave up. My elderly mother said the path to the large public bath was like a maze, and she got lost. I also got slightly lost. After searching thoroughly, I found some signs, but they were not noticeable. I would like more arrows and explanations displayed prominently. According to other guests' reviews, there seem to be many repeat visitors who are familiar with the layout and how to use things, so they probably don't need signs. If the hotel were to display large, colorful signs everywhere, it might be considered "not stylish" or "a bit off" for a luxury hotel. The hotel's thinking might be that repeat visitors won't have trouble, and if style and ambiance are prioritized, then that's understandable. The staff's service and consideration were excellent, and my mother and I were very grateful for the staff of the Miyako Hotel. The morning newspaper service, which has become rare recently, was a delight for newspaper lovers. The staff kindly assisted with bedding consultations, allowing us to sleep comfortably and warmly. The breakfast content, taste, and staff service were excellent, and we enjoyed it. I've written at length about some not-so-good things, but this is just my personal impression as a first-time guest at this hotel. Everyone has different feelings and expectations from a hotel, and the hotel has its own philosophy. I apologize if the wonderful hotel staff, who took such good care of us, feel offended by my comments. Thank you very much for allowing my mother and me to have a pleasant stay. We are very grateful for your hospitality.

    Unchanging Hospitality

In Kyoto during December, we returned amulets to the shrine, received new ones, and strolled around Teramachi Street and Sanjo Street to look at New Year's items. Although it was a bit cold, we had a wonderful time soaking in the onsen at Stays "Kasui-en" and fully enjoyed the remaining yellow leaves. "Kasui-en" is a property that my wife is very fond of, and we make it a point to visit once a year. This property is not only beautiful in terms of its building and rooms, but at "Kasui-en," the hospitality from the proprietress and everyone else has remained unchanged since our first visit, always making it a place where we can relax as if returning to our own home. Honestly, I would like to keep Kasui-en a secret...

Room with a wonderful view of Heian-kyo

I stayed at the renovated and modernized Laoshou Hotel with a great view. As expected, it was a hotel with a wonderful view. I used the club lounge, but during cocktail time it was extremely crowded and I couldn't relax, so I left early. The breakfast restaurant had a wide variety of dishes, but the taste didn't suit me. I was satisfied because the room and the view were good.

    I used the club floo...

I used the club floor of another hotel and was very satisfied, so I decided to use this hotel this time. The exterior is old, but the interior and rooms are very clean, as expected from a long-established hotel. The bath was also very pleasant to use. And the club lounge, which I was most looking forward to. Disappointment from the moment I entered. I was ignored by the staff. Not just by one person, but by several. Even when clearing the plates, they were silent. And they had a sullen look on their faces. Did I do something wrong? I thought about it, but since it was from the moment I entered, I couldn't think of anything. And when I went to pour tea from the pot, a male staff member was cleaning or doing something with the coffee machine next to the pot, and had placed tools in front of the pot, so I couldn't use it and waited beside him (he glanced at me when I arrived, so he noticed), but he continued working without moving aside. I finally said "excuse me" and he moved to the right, but again, without a word. I have stayed at various hotels before, but I have never been ignored. Even at hotels priced below the Westin, I have never been ignored. The staff who guided me to the front desk and my room were very kind, and I thought they were as expected, so this incident was even more shocking. (When I visited at a different time, I was served normally.) I probably won't visit again.

    Spa Kacho is the best.

This time, although it was a one-night stay, thank you for upgrading us to a Room with a Heian-kyo view and extending our checkout by one hour. Thanks to you, we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. We will use your services again.

Onsen and private balcony are everything.

There is a labor shortage throughout Japan, and this place is no exception, as I was kept waiting at check-in. A staff member casually asked each person in the long line for their name. This is not the behavior of a luxury Hotel. The amenities are not bad, but the tea provided is like that of a Business Hotel, which is disappointing. The room had a view of Heian-kyo, and the view was magnificent. This scenery and the Onsen are the highlights of this Hotel.

    Use with confidence

I have used this facility several times, and each time I have spent a pleasant time. Although the lounge was full and I had to wait a bit, I was able to have a light drink before leaving the lounge by the time of my restaurant reservation. The operation of the full lounge seemed challenging, but it was handled efficiently, which was impressive. Having a light drink and chatting for about 40 minutes was sufficient. The bathing facility here is always quiet whenever I visit, and the staff clean frequently, making it a pleasant experience. Thank you very much. I will use it again.

    Kanreki Celebration & Recovery Celebration

Thank you for accommodating an additional guest at the last minute. The experience was so good that even as a local from Kyoto, I wanted to stay! They were very satisfied. Thank you. The only disappointment was that initially, there was only one set of toiletries in the room, and only two glasses in the bathroom. There were also only two room key cards. Was it because the room wasn't ready at the check-in time of 3 PM? (Check-in took a long time, and we waited in the lobby for over 30 minutes, finally getting into the room just before 4 PM.) Everything else was prepared for three people. The autumn leaves were beautiful, and the garden within the hotel is a must-see. The Onsen was also excellent. We parted ways with the shared ambition of staying at Kasuien next time. The restaurant staff's service was very well received. We were delighted that they handled the whims of three middle-aged women with laughter. The afternoon tea was also excellent in both taste and presentation, and we couldn't help but indulge in the variety of teas.

    Quite Expensive Inbound Kyoto

It was a two-night stay in Kyoto, where the service prices were unusually high due to inbound tourism, whether it was autumn or winter. Since it was a weekday stay, there were fewer guests than on weekends, allowing for a more relaxed experience. Honestly, as I use a car, I always rely on the Westin. It would be helpful if it were more affordable.

    Relax and unwind

Although it is an old Hotel, it is well-maintained, so there is no stress. Above all, there is no inconsistency in the staff's service, and everyone is kind. The children said, "It was fun, I want to come again." Thank you very much.

There are many Stays in Kyoto, but

Since the Meiji era, the status of this place, which has welcomed the imperial family and many state guests, remains unshaken even in the Reiwa era.

    It is a wonderful Hotel.

I stayed for the first time since the renewal. The staff were very kind and I had a pleasant stay. The spa was available, and it was very relaxing, so I hope to stay again. Just one point, the wait time for check-in was long, and I was worried about making it to my acquaintance's party...

Your destination is the spa and pool.

It was a bit far to the spa, but we were able to relax as it was almost like a private reservation. The reclining chair in the semi-open-air bath was great for a half-body bath, and it was nice that the washing area wasn't too visible from the bathtub. There were disinfectant wipes and vinyl covers available, so I could sit on the chair with peace of mind. I appreciated the thoughtful consideration for women. My husband also seemed to enjoy swimming to his heart's content as the pool was apparently reserved for him, and he was delighted with the birthday cake prepared for him. With the Onsen, pool, and gym, we were able to enjoy a relaxing meal in our Room, making it a wonderful birthday. The Japanese-style breakfast was also calm and enjoyable. Thank you very much.

    I had a comfortable stay.

You can overlook the calm cityscape from the Room with a view of Heian-kyo, and I noticed for the first time that there is a three-storied pagoda in the direction of Okazaki. I enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. They were very delicious. The next morning, when I opened the sliding window, the smell of tobacco came in. Was there a smoking corner below? That was the only disappointment.

    I was able to relax.

I stayed for three nights. The check-in process was smooth without any waiting. I frequently used the shuttle bus to get around. This time, instead of the usual alarm clock, there was an alarm clock wireless speaker, but I couldn't find the manual and didn't know how to set the alarm. Coincidentally, when someone came to clear the in-room dining dishes, they asked with a big smile, "Is there anything I can help you with?" When I inquired, they immediately had a staff member assist me and left the manual. Thank you very much.

    Disappointing

As always, the spa is wonderful, and the atmosphere inside the facility is good. The problem, which I don't know when it started, is that you can no longer check in or out at the club lounge. It was one of the things I looked forward to, so it's very disappointing.

Hotel for foreign tourists Breakfast and SPA & gym are recommended

First, to the Ikkyu.com office. The reservation confirmation email included a photo of the twin site view, and the reservation details were sent. This time, I booked a Deluxe Heian-kyo View Twin Room. I thought it was the same as the attached photo, but the room I was guided to was different. Upon checking, I was told that the photo was of a higher grade room. I would like the confirmation email to only include photos of the room I actually reserved. Regarding the hotel, the lobby was crowded with foreign guests, and I couldn't feel a calm atmosphere. There were few experienced porters and hotel staff, and I felt their customer service attitude and hotel knowledge were lacking. The room cleaning staff were mostly young foreign student part-timers, and since their Japanese was limited, I spoke in English. The reception at the SPA also didn't feel quite comfortable. The bed and sheets were good. The French restaurant, Dominique, was wonderful. The hotel's Japanese breakfast was also nice, as it was served in a different place from the buffet, allowing for a quiet and relaxed meal. If you don't mind not having a SPA or gym, at this price, there seem to be plenty of accommodation options with delicious and abundant buffets.

    It was good!

Overall, the hotel exceeded my expectations. I had stayed here in the past and was looking forward to it after the major renovation. The hallways and guest room ceilings are somewhat low, giving a sense of history, but the rooms are sufficiently clean, tastefully decorated, and have a luxurious feel, making them extremely comfortable. The large public bath also has a low ceiling (which is understandable), but the facilities are satisfactory. Personally, I might prefer the onsen here and at Mitsui. It's a hotel I would like to stay at again in Kyoto. I recommend it.

I would like two tall chairs in the twin room.

I stayed for three consecutive nights for the first time after the renovation. Due to the heat, I spent a lot of time in the room, but it was a pity that I couldn't relax much. There was only one chair with a backrest, so I had no choice but to lounge on the bed. I wanted to take clothes out of my suitcase, but I wished there was space in the chest for that. The hot spring was very nice. The Japanese breakfast was delicious, but I was overwhelmed by the volume. The buffet was okay. I used the shuttle bus several times. It was very convenient.

I was able to relax in the club lounge. I also enjoyed the hot springs. It's a regret that I couldn't visit the Japanese garden due to my next schedule. One night is not enough to fully enjoy it... It was great as a trip with friends. Thank you for taking care of us.

On the third night of our one-week summer vacation trip,

On the third night of our week-long trip, we chose this hotel with the purpose of enjoying the stay itself rather than sightseeing, and also because having a pool was a condition for my son who is on the swim team. Thanks to the Diamond membership benefits, we were able to enjoy a very pleasant time in a spacious room with a great view. I was delighted to find that the hairdryer was the same Repronizer that I use at home. One of the membership benefits included a restaurant credit, which we used at the restaurant for dinner. Since my son has allergies, we had inquired about this before our stay, and on the day, we received excellent service at dinner, the lounge, and breakfast, allowing us to enjoy our meals with peace of mind. Thank you very much.

The large public bath is good, the food is delicious, but there are issues with the club lounge.

Stayed for two consecutive nights on vacation. Despite using the club lounge, I was a bit taken aback from the first impression as I had to check in and out at the first-floor front desk like regular guests. Since I'm paying extra, I would like some differentiation from regular guests in this area. As for the room upgrade benefit for Diamond members, I was only guided to a junior suite room of the same grade, albeit with a good view on the top floor. I didn't feel the value of the upgrade. The late checkout was changed from 3 PM to 1:30 PM due to room cleaning. When I expressed my concern, they eventually upgraded me to a suite room later on. This response was excellent. The disappointing part was the club lounge. The food was sparse, and the alcohol at night was underwhelming, with canned beer and low-grade wine, whiskey, and shochu. Moreover, despite needing a special card key to enter the club lounge, I was asked for my room number and name at the entrance every time, which was tiresome. There was no sense of exclusivity as a so-called club floor guest. The staff in the club floor seemed to be mostly part-timers, lacking knowledge about drinks and food, and their responses to questions were inadequate. Better staff training is desired. Additionally, I was concerned about the rude male staff at the fitness and large bath reception. I understand they might be frustrated with ill-mannered guests, but since it's a customer service business, I wish they would create a more welcoming atmosphere. Although I pointed out some negatives, there were many positives as well. The highlight was the large public bath with natural hot springs. It was spacious and always empty, allowing for a relaxing experience. The open-air bath was great for feeling the early autumn air of Kyoto. It was so good that I used it multiple times during my stay, and my shoulder and back pain were cured. The pool also had an outdoor section adjacent to the indoor pool, allowing for a pleasant swim under the sun. In contrast to the club floor, breakfast at a separate venue was fulfilling and quite delicious. I ordered in-room dining for dinner, which was also very tasty. The dining experience was reminiscent of the old Miyako Hotel, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Despite various opinions, overall, this stay was very good. Thank you very much.
