A new encounter, a single story. Kanbayashi Hotel Senjukaku. The story began with an encounter. It was in 1929 (Showa 4) when the first president of Nagano Electric Railway, Tohei Kozu, met Lieutenant Helseth from Norway. This meeting in Kanbayashi brought together European and Japanese cultures, creating an entirely new culture or space. It was a groundbreaking event where the culture of a Western-style Hotel was incorporated into a traditional Japanese-style Ryokan for the first time. Furthermore, this encounter became the prologue to the development of Kanbayashi Onsen and Shiga Kogen, now renowned as one of Japan's leading international resorts.

For 200 years since its founding, Yorozuya has been cherished by generations of guests.With an Onsen flow rate of 253 liters per minute—the largest in Yudanaka Onsen—and three private hot spring sources, it offers an exceptional bathing experience. Among them, the grand bathhouse “Momoyama Bath” is a registered Tangible Cultural Property, featuring a magnificent all-wood temple-style structure. Relax your mind and body with 100% natural Onsen water. <The nostalgic town of Shibu Onsen, filled with steam> It is said that Shibu Onsen was discovered by the Buddhist monk Gyoki during the Nara period. Later, the Onsen-ji Temple was established through the contributions of the Sengoku warlord Takeda Shingen. During the battles of Kawanakajima, Shibu Onsen served as a healing place for wounded soldiers. The first proprietor of Kokuya, Ichizaemon, originally ran a rice merchant business called Kokuya but later opened an inn for travelers. Since then, the Property has been cherished by guests, and the current proprietor is the 16th generation.

Opened on September 2, 2007. Named “Masuichi Kyakuden” from the owner’s wish: “We would have loved to welcome you into our own home…”. Designed by architect John Morford—who also designed “Kurabu” and the main store of Masuichi Ichimura Sake Brewery—this Accommodation is his vision of where he would want to stay when visiting Obuse. Centered around three earthen storehouses relocated from a long-established sugar wholesaler in Nagano, it comprises seven wooden buildings, with interiors fully furnished in Western style.

The building incorporates design elements of the original Matsusho-so while embracing traditional Sukiya architecture that harmonizes with nature.
