A new encounter, a single story. Kanbayashi Hotel Senjukaku. The story began with an encounter. It was in 1929 (Showa 4) when the first president of Nagano Electric Railway, Tohei Kozu, met Lieutenant Helseth from Norway. This meeting in Kanbayashi brought together European and Japanese cultures, creating an entirely new culture or space. It was a groundbreaking event where the culture of a Western-style Hotel was incorporated into a traditional Japanese-style Ryokan for the first time. Furthermore, this encounter became the prologue to the development of Kanbayashi Onsen and Shiga Kogen, now renowned as one of Japan's leading international resorts.

Situated on a 5,000-tsubo property, Tsutsujitei features approximately 3,000 tsubo of natural forest transformed into a rustic garden. KURBIO is a name derived from the combination of the German word "KUR," meaning "healing, recovery, treatment," and the Greek word "BIOS," meaning "life." KUR is often associated with Kurhaus (a Facility for therapeutic and recuperative purposes, often featuring an Onsen), and BIO is commonly heard in recent years in the context of macrobiotics (a dietary approach translated as "the art of longevity"). Kusatsu Onsen Hotel KURBIO is designed with the desire to help guests restore their physical and mental health through both aspects. It offers a serene environment, the renowned hot springs of Kusatsu, and daily meal menus based on macrobiotics. This is a new style of healthy resort that has not existed in Japan before.
