Accommodation inheriting the elegance of the Mori clan, nestled in the World Heritage Site "Hagi Castle Town".

Built in 1604 by Terumoto Mori after the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, Hagi flourished as a castle town. Walking through streets that still retain the atmosphere of those times, you can feel the presence of history in the stone walls, white plastered walls, and even in a passing breeze. Turning around, it feels as if over 400 years of history quietly lingers here. At its heart lies "Hagijo Sannomaru Hokumon Yashiki," the only Ryokan within the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Hagi Castle Town." Located on the site of the Yoshiki Mori Clan's Hagi Domain residence, it conveys to this day a harmony of Japanese elegance and Western sophistication.

  • We stayed at your Hotel during our trip to Hagi. It was exceptionally hot right after the end of the rainy season, and walking around town was quite exhausting, but thanks to all of your staff we were able to spend our time comfortably. Our Room was a spacious Japanese-Western suite (assigned by the Hotel), and not only the Room but also the in-house Facility areas and the large public bath were thoroughly cleaned and very comfortable. The meals were excellent in taste, variety, and portion size—we were completely satisfied. The large public bath is not very big, but the water temperature suited my preference and helped relieve travel fatigue. We also appreciated that it alternated between men and women in the morning and evening. Seeing your staff’s high level of hospitality made it clear that training is well established. If we visit Hagi again, this is a Hotel we would definitely like to stay at once more. One small request: these days we are grateful just to have an indoor smoking room, but if possible, it would help if you could block direct sunlight (the western sun) with something like a roller shade. In this season, it felt like being in a sauna in the evening.

  • The hospitality was worthy of an Accommodation located within a World Heritage site. The Facility was a well-arranged renovation of an old building. Dinner was luxurious, with sashimi, abalone, pufferfish, meat, and more. Breakfast was a standard Japanese meal; the venue was a Western-style Room facing the garden, but since we were traveling with a toddler, we were shown to an adjacent small Room instead, which was disappointing. Overall, it was very good.

Travel - A stay that journeys through time, a moment in life.

White walls and stone walls. The timeless scenery of the World Heritage Site "Hagi Castle Town" still thrives today. Connected to Takakage Kobayakawa, one of the "Mōri Ryōkawa" who shaped the Sengoku era, is the Yoshiki Mōri family. On the site of their Hagi domain residence stands an accommodation that conveys dignity and beauty to this day—"Hagijo Sannomaru Hokumon Yashiki." The stone wall facing "Onarimichi," a path once used by successive feudal lords, remains as it was in the Edo period. Step through its imposing front gate, and you will find yourself in another world where tradition and elegance harmonize beautifully.

Hokumon Garden - British-Style Garden|Spring Cherry Blossoms, Early Summer Roses, Autumn Foliage, Winter Camellias—Flowers Marking the Passage of Time

The facility offers a space that blends the dignity of traditional Japanese architecture with the elegance of European taste. Within the grounds, two gardens—one Japanese and one Western—showcase the beauty of each season. To the south lies "Hokumon Garden," an English-style garden where Japanese and Western flora harmonize. Cherry blossoms in spring, roses in early summer, autumn foliage, and camellias in winter—seasonal flowers embrace visitors throughout the year. This is not just an accommodation but a place where the "history" and "aesthetic sense" of Hagi come alive. Immerse yourself in tranquility and savor the beauty of time as it flows by.

The General Manager's Message

The district, stone walls, and white plaster walls that have been passed down since the Mori era. The Onarimichi road once traveled by feudal lords and the serene garden reflecting the four seasons. This is not just a place to "stay," but an accommodation where you "live in history." With pride in carrying on the legacy of Hagi's time. ── Hagi Castle San-no-Maru Hokumon Yashiki
