An accommodation where you can experience "the beauty of Japan" at Kinosaki Onsen, with a history of 1,300 years.

A luxury, authentic Japanese-style Ryokan overlooking a charming Onsen town. Renovated in 2023, it offers a lineup of high-grade guest rooms. Kinosaki Onsen is famous for its seven public bathhouses. Located right by the central bathhouse “Ichino-yu,” Kobayashiya is an Accommodation designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, featuring a rare three-story wooden main building. The views from the rooms truly deserve to be called the best seats in Kinosaki. Following the renovation, the property now includes penthouse suites with bedrooms wrapped in washi paper, a serene lobby finished with earthen walls, and carefully selected tea ware from regional kilns placed in each room—wherever you look, you’ll feel the beauty of traditional Japanese aesthetics. The newly opened restaurant serves course meals based on local cuisine. Three free private baths are available for guests.

Explore the Beauty — An Accommodation Where You Can Experience the Beauty of Japan

- Kobayashiya stands out in the Kinosaki Onsen townscape of traditional wooden Ryokan, preserving a particularly historic façade. The current building was rebuilt after the 1925 Kita-Tajima Earthquake, and the three-story wooden main building was designated a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2015. Over about two and a half years from 2021, it underwent its first major renovation in roughly 100 years and was reborn as a space that embodies a “modern Onsen Accommodation”—simple yet rich with light and shadow. - The renovation was designed by SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE (Makoto Tanijiri / Ai Yoshida). While making the most of the building’s history and character—such as original handrails, patterned glass, and locks—it also ensures comfort with an air-clean heating system and double-glazed wooden fittings.

    - Important notes for your stay (1)
Our property is a rare three-story wooden building. While renovations have significantly upgraded functionality for modern comfort, soundproofing is limited. Please keep noise to a minimum after 10:00 PM.

    - Important notes for your stay (2)
To preserve the original architectural style and atmosphere of the building, some guest rooms do not have a washbasin inside the toilet. We appreciate your understanding if this causes any inconvenience.
