Our 8,000-tsubo garden, begun by my great-grandfather in the early Showa era, is surrounded by trees over 100 years old and is a celebrated spot in Otaru, with 200 cherry trees in full bloom in early May. From late May through June, wisteria trellises and azaleas follow, and in summer you can enjoy viburnum snowballs, hydrangeas, and carefully tended roses. I especially love the autumn foliage in late October, and the deep winter snow that transforms everything into a pure white landscape is equally refreshing for the soul.

  • Satisfied with everything

    Although this Accommodation is located along a major road, once you step onto the grounds you won’t notice it at all, and there is a lovely garden. A stroll is highly recommended. Various services, including the lounge, are thoughtfully arranged, and we really enjoyed our time inside the Accommodation. All staff were kind and pleasant; the meals were delicious; and not only the in-room open-air bath but also the large public bath was excellent. There were quite a few guests from Europe/Western countries and Asia as well, but everyone spent their time quietly. This Accommodation far exceeded our expectations.

  • Hospitality Accommodation

    We stayed for one night from November 11th with a family of five. Since opportunities to travel with my parents, both over 80 years old, are limited, we wanted to choose a "wonderful and comfortable ryokan" and decided to try this place based on reviews. The facility is almost entirely barrier-free, allowing my elderly parents to use wheelchairs comfortably and safely. Above all, the hospitality of the staff was exceptional. They not only noticed things but also took proactive approaches rather than just observing, which seemed to reflect the brand strength of Kourakuen. It’s rare for every staff member we interacted with to be so outstanding—this truly represents their brand. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious; even my mother, who usually eats very little, finished her meal completely. The complimentary massage at the spa was also excellent. Our entire family rated our stay as excellent, and my elderly parents expressed their desire to live long enough to visit again.This is an accommodation we would love to visit again during flower season for its exceptional hospitality. We sincerely thank all the staff who made our stay so special!

We use fresh, natural Onsen water sourced from 500 meters underground on our premises. As it is a simple Onsen, it is gentle and suitable for a wide range of guests, from infants to the elderly.
